We introduce an exactly solvable SU(2)-invariant spin-1/2 model with exotic spin excitations. With time reversal symmetry (TRS), the ground state is a spin liquid with gapless or gapped spin-1 but fermionic excitations. When TRS is broken, the resulting spin liquid exhibits deconfined vortex excitations which carry spin-1/2 and obey non-Abelian statistics. We show that this SU(2) invariant non-Abelian spin liquid exhibits the spin quantum Hall effect with quantized spin Hall conductivity σ(xy)(s)=?/2π, and that the spin response is effectively described by the SO(3) level-1 Chern-Simons theory at low energy. We further propose that a SU(2) level-2 Chern-Simons theory is the effective field theory describing the topological structure of the non-Abelian SU(2) invariant spin liquid.  相似文献

We report the realization of a novel degenerate Fermi mixture with an SU(2)×SU(6) symmetry in a cold atomic gas. We successfully cool the mixture of the two fermionic isotopes of ytterbium 171Yb with the nuclear spin I=1/2 and 173Yb with I=5/2 below the Fermi temperature T_{F} as 0.46TF for 171Yb and 0.54TF for 173Yb. The same scattering lengths for different spin components make this mixture featured with the novel SU(2)×SU(6) symmetry. The nuclear spin components are separately imaged by exploiting an optical Stern-Gerlach effect. In addition, the mixture is loaded into a 3D optical lattice to implement the SU(2)×SU(6) Hubbard model. This mixture will open the door to the study of novel quantum phases such as a spinor Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer-like fermionic superfluid.  相似文献

We investigate the Temperley-Lieb-Jones algebraic structures in isomorphic higher spin chain modgls with nearest neighbour interactions and SU(2) symmetry. The Ternperley-Lieb-Jones algebraic constructions for such chains of spins from 1 to 7/2 are presented. For the case of spin-1 we also give the Temperley-Lieb-Jones algebraic representations related to the anisomorphic spin chain with q-deformed SUq(2) symmetry. Their related spin chain Harniltonians with SU(2) and SUq(2) symmetries as well as the corresponding solutions of Yang-Baxter equation are also discussed.  相似文献

We derive model-independent relations for SU(2) and SU(3) chiral solitons. These relations depend only on the soliton picture of baryons and therefore are a test of the 1/N expansion. In the two-flavor case we discuss the magnetic moment and the electric quadrupole transition of the Δ. In SU(3) we discuss magnetic moments, including SU(3) breaking effects and 1/N corrections.  相似文献

We consider corrections to the baryon mass spectrum when the u and the d quarks are massive, i.e. the pion acquires its physical mass. This breaks explicitely the SU(2) chiral symmetry of the chiral quark model. We also include the massive K- and η-mesons to examine the broken SU(3) and SU(3) × SU(3) symmetries. These small corrections do improve the mass spectrum.  相似文献

By using the modified MK renormalization transformation, the phase boundaries and renormalization trajectories of the couplings for an SU(2) single plaquette action with variable compments of spin 1/2 and spin 1 in the whole coupling parameter space are obtained. We have performed electronic spectral function calculations for the Hubbard model on the square lattice using recently developed quantum SU(2) × U(1) rotor approach that enables a self-consistent treatment of the antiferromagnetic state. The collective variables for charge and spin are isolated in the form of the space-time fluctuating U(1) phase field and rotating spin quantization axis governed by the SU(2) symmetry, respectively. As a result interacting electrons appear as composite objects consisting of bare fermions with attached U(1) and SU(2) gauge fields. This allows us to write the fermion Green’s function in the space-time domain as a product of the SU(2) gauge fields, U(1) phase propagator and the pseudo-fermion correlation function. Consequently, the calculation of the spectral line shapes now reduces to performing the convolution of spin, charge and pseudo-fermion Green’s functions. The collective spin and charge fluctuations are governed by the effective actions that are derived from the Hubbard model for any value of the Coulomb interaction. The emergence of a sharp peak in the electron spectral function in the antiferromagnetic state indicates the decay of the electron into separate spin and charge carrying particle excitations.  相似文献

Because of the spin and Dirac-valley degrees of freedom, graphene allows the observation of one-, two- or four-component fractional quantum Hall effects in different parameter regions. We address the stability of various states in the SU(2) and SU(4) limits. In the SU(4) limit, we predict that new low-energy Goldstone modes determine the stability of the fractional quantum Hall states at 2/5, 3/7, etc; SU(4) skyrmions are not found to be relevant for the low-energy physics. These results are discussed in light of experiments.  相似文献

We investigate the interactions and chiral properties of the four spin-3/2 baryons N(-)(D13), N+(P13), Delta+(P33), and Delta(-)(D33) together with the nucleon. We construct the SU(2)R x SU(2)L invariant interactions between the spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 baryons with the aid of a new, specially developed spin and isospin projection technique for these baryon fields, where the chiral invariant interactions contain one- and two-pion couplings. We obtain simple relations for the coupling constants of the one- and two-pion spin-1/2-3/2 transitions terms. The relation for the one-pion interactions reasonably agrees with the experiments, which suggests that these spin-3/2 baryons are chiral partners.  相似文献

We examine if quark-lepton mass matrices are modified by generation changing currents in superstring-inspired models. It is shown that sufficiently large corrections to the quark mass matrices can be derived in an SU(3)C × SU(2)L × SU(2)R × U(1)L × U(1)R model with δ ⩾ 2 and an SU(3)C × SU(2)L × U(1)L × U(1)R model. Consistency with other experiments are investigated by means of renormalization group equations.  相似文献

We explore the ground states and quantum phase transitions of two-dimensional, spin S=1/2, antiferromagnets by generalizing lattice models and duality transforms introduced by Sachdev and Jalabert (1990, Mod. Phys. Lett. B4, 1043). The minimal model for square lattice antiferromagnets is a lattice discretization of the quantum nonlinear sigma model, along with Berry phases which impose quantization of spin. With full SU(2) spin rotation invariance, we find a magnetically ordered ground state with Néel order at weak coupling and a confining paramagnetic ground state with bond charge (e.g., spin Peierls) order at strong coupling. We study the mechanisms by which these two states are connected in intermediate coupling. We extend the minimal model to study different routes to fractionalization and deconfinement in the ground state, and also generalize it to cases with a uniaxial anisotropy (the spin symmetry groups is then U(1)). For the latter systems, fractionalization can appear by the pairing of vortices in the staggered spin order in the easy-plane; however, we argue that this route does not survive the restoration of SU(2) spin symmetry. For SU(2) invariant systems we study a separate route to fractionalization associated with the Higgs phase of a complex boson measuring noncollinear, spiral spin correlations: we present phase diagrams displaying competition between magnetic order, bond charge order, and fractionalization, and discuss the nature of the quantum transitions between the various states. A strong check on our methods is provided by their application to S=1/2 frustrated antiferromagnets in one dimension: here, our results are in complete accord with those obtained by bosonization and by the solution of integrable models.  相似文献

We consider the renormalization of the coupling constants in theories with extended gauge hierarchies. An effective field theory approach is used to include an interesting class of higher-order effects in the renormalization group formulas. We introduce for SU(2) quantum spin systems the valence bond entanglement entropy as a counting of valence bond spin singlets shared by two subsystems. For a large class of antiferromagnetic systems, it can be calculated in all dimensions with quantum Monte Carlo simulations in the valence bond basis. We show numerically that this quantity displays all features of the von Neumann entanglement entropy for several one-dimensional systems. For two-dimensional Heisenberg models, we find a strict area law for a valence bond solid state and multiplicative logarithmic corrections for the Néel phase.  相似文献

Supergravity in eleven dimensions is known to have classical solutions of the type (anti-de Sitter space-time) × (7-dimensional Einstein space). We give a list of all homogeneous 7-manifolds which admit an Einstein metric. Known solutions are reviewed, with some emphasis on the SU(3) × SU(2) × U(1) compactifications. Their topology is discussed in detail.The list includes three new solutions, with symmetry groups SU(3) × SU(2), SO(5) and SO(5) × U(1). The first solution has no supersymmetry, while the second and third yield respectively N = 1 and N = 2 supersymmetry in four dimensions. The last two solutions may be extended to solutions with nonzero internal photon curl, breaking all supersymmetry.The existence of a spin structure on homogeneous manifolds GH is discussed and related to topological properties of GH. As an illustration, we treat the coset spaces SU(m + 1) × SU(n + 1)/SU(m) × SU(n) × U(1), which include the spaces with SU(3) × SU(2) × U(1) symmetry.  相似文献

Nucleon–nucleon scattering observables are considered in the context of the large Nc limit of QCD for initial states with moderately high momenta (pNc). The scattering is studied in the framework of the time-dependent mean-field approximation. We focus on the dependence of those observables on the spin and isospin of the initial state which may be computed using time-dependent mean-field theory. We show that, up to corrections, all such observables must be invariant under simultaneous spin and isospin flips (i.e., rotations through π/2 in both spin and isospin) acting on either particle. All observables of this class obtained from spin unpolarized measurements must be isospin independent up to 1/Nc corrections. Moreover, it can be shown that the leading correction is of relative order 1/Nc2 rather than 1/Nc.  相似文献

In this paper the compactification of ten-dimensional superstring theories over homogeneous coset spaces S/R is analyzed. We construct explicitly the Ricci-flattening spin connection with torsion for the non-symmetric spaces G2/SU(3), SU(3)/U(1) × U(1) and Sp(4)/SU(2) × U(1). These spaces provide a solution to the classical field equations with vanishing energy-momentum tensor and therefore one might expect that the conformal invariance of the string theory is preserved. We discuss the two-dimensional non-linear σ-model with Wess-Zumino term corresponding to the homogeneous spaces S/R. In addition, we investigate the constraints for the compactification coming from the requirement of unbroken supersymmetry and anomaly cancellation and give explicit examples of consistent compactification with S and R being embedded into the ten-dimensional gauge group E8.  相似文献
