Let \({f(x)=(x-a_1)\cdots (x-a_m)}\), where a 1, . . . , a m are distinct rational integers. In 1908 Schur raised the question whether f(x) ± 1 is irreducible over the rationals. One year later he asked whether \({(f(x))^{2^k}+1}\) is irreducible for every k ≥ 1. In 1919 Pólya proved that if \({P(x)\in\mathbb{Z}[x]}\) is of degree m and there are m rational integer values a for which 0 < |P(a)| < 2?N N! where \({N=\lceil m/2\rceil}\), then P(x) is irreducible. A great number of authors have published results of Schur-type or Pólya-type afterwards. Our paper contains various extensions, generalizations and improvements of results from the literature. To indicate some of them, in Theorem 3.1 a Pólya-type result is established when the ground ring is the ring of integers of an arbitrary imaginary quadratic number field. In Theorem 4.1 we describe the form of the factors of polynomials of the shape h(x) f(x) + c, where h(x) is a polynomial and c is a constant such that |c| is small with respect to the degree of h(x) f(x). We obtain irreducibility results for polynomials of the form g(f(x)) where g(x) is a monic irreducible polynomial of degree ≤ 3 or of CM-type. Besides elementary arguments we apply methods and results from algebraic number theory, interpolation theory and diophantine approximation.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem of porous medium equation ρ(x)u t  = Δu m  + V(x)h(t)u p in a cone D = (0, ∞) × Ω, where \({V(x)\,{\sim}\, |x|^\sigma, h(t)\,{\sim}\, t^s}\). Let ω 1 denote the smallest Dirichlet eigenvalue for the Laplace-Beltrami operator on Ω and let l denote the positive root of l 2 + (n ? 2)l = ω 1. We prove that if \({m < p \leq 1+(m-1)(1+s)+\frac{2(s+1)+\sigma}{n+l}}\), then the problem has no global nonnegative solutions for any nonnegative u 0 unless u 0 = 0; if \({p >1 +(m-1)(1+s)+\frac{2(s+1)+\sigma}{n+l}}\), then the problem has global solutions for some u 0 ≥ 0.  相似文献

where \(a>0,~b,~\mu \ge 0\) are constants, \(\alpha \in (0,3)\), \(p\in [2,3+2\alpha )\), the potential V(x) may be unbounded from below and \(\phi |u|^{p-2}u\) is a Hartree-type nonlinearity. Under some mild conditions on V(x), f(xu) and g(xu), we prove that the above system has infinitely many nontrivial solutions. Specially, our results cover the general Schrödinger equations, the Kirchhoff equations and the Schrödinger–Poisson system.

Let G be a finite group and e a positive integer dividing |G|, the order of G. Denoting \({L_e(G)=\{x\in G|\,x^e=1\}}\) , Frobenius proved that |L e (G)| = ke for a positive integer k ≥ 1. We prove several new results on the absolutely continuous spectra of perturbed one-dimensional Stark operators. First, we find new classes of perturbations, characterized mainly by smoothness conditions, which preserve purely absolutely continuous spectrum. Then we establish stability of the absolutely continuous spectrum in more general situations, where imbedded singular spectrum may occur. We present two kinds of optimal conditions for the stability of absolutely continuous spectrum: decay and smoothness. In the decay direction, we show that a sufficient (in the power scale) condition is |q(x)|≤C(1+|x|)?1/4?ε; in the smoothness direction, a sufficient condition in Hölder classes isqC1/2+ε(R). On the other hand, we show that there exist potentials which both satisfy |q(x)|≤C(1+|x|)?1/4 and belong toC1/2(R) for which the spectrum becomes purely singular on the whole real axis, so that the above results are optimal within the scales considered.  相似文献

We consider quadratic functions f that satisfy the additional equation y2 f(x) =  x2 f(y) for the pairs \({ (x,y) \in \mathbb{R}^2}\) that fulfill the condition P(x, y) =  0 for some fixed polynomial P of two variables. If P(x, y) =  axbyc with \({ a , b , c \in \mathbb{R}}\) and \({(a^2 + b^2)c \neq 0}\) or P(x,y) =  x n ? y with a natural number \({n \geq 2}\), we prove that f(x) =  f(1) x2 for all \({x \in \mathbb{R}}\). Let A and B be non-empty subsets of a metric space. As a non-self mapping \({T:A\longrightarrow B}\) does not necessarily have a fixed point, it is of considerable interest to find an element x in A that is as close to Tx in B as possible. In other words, if the fixed point equation Tx = x has no exact solution, then it is contemplated to find an approximate solution x in A such that the error d(x, Tx) is minimum, where d is the distance function. Indeed, best proximity point theorems investigate the existence of such optimal approximate solutions, called best proximity points, to the fixed point equation Tx = x when there is no exact solution. As the distance between any element x in A and its image Tx in B is at least the distance between the sets A and B, a best proximity pair theorem achieves global minimum of d(x, Tx) by stipulating an approximate solution x of the fixed point equation Tx = x to satisfy the condition that d(x, Tx) = d(A, B). The purpose of this article is to establish best proximity point theorems for contractive non-self mappings, yielding global optimal approximate solutions of certain fixed point equations. Besides establishing the existence of best proximity points, iterative algorithms are also furnished to determine such optimal approximate solutions.  相似文献

Let R be a 6-torsion-free prime ring and let \({D : R \rightarrow R}\) be an additive mapping satisfying the relation 2D(x 4) = D(x 3)x + x 3 D(x) + D(x)x 3 + xD(x 3) for all \({x \in R}\) . The purpose of this paper is to show that D is a derivation. This result is related to a classical result of Herstein, which states that any Jordan derivation on a 2-torsion-free prime ring is a derivation.  相似文献

Let M be a commutative, cancellative, atomic monoid and x a nonunit in M. We define ω(x)=n if n is the smallest positive integer with the property that whenever xa 1???a t , where each a i is an atom, there is a T?{1,2,…,t} with |T|≤n such that x∣∏kT a k . The ω-function measures how far x is from being prime in M. In this paper, we give an algorithm for computing ω(x) in any numerical monoid. Simple formulas for ω(x) are given for numerical monoids of the form 〈n,n+1,…,2n?1〉, where n≥3, and 〈n,n+1,…,2n?2〉, where n≥4. The paper then focuses on the special case of 2-generator numerical monoids. We give a formula for computing ω(x) in this case and also necessary and sufficient conditions for determining when x is an atom. Finally, we analyze the asymptotic behavior of ω(x) by computing \(\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}\frac{\omega(x)}{x}\).  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the oscillatory behavior of the damped half-linear oscillator (a(t)?p(x′))′ + b(t)?p(x′) + c(t)?p(x) = 0, where ?p(x) = |x|p?1 sgn x for x ∈ ? and p > 1. A sufficient condition is established for oscillation of all nontrivial solutions of the damped half-linear oscillator under the integral averaging conditions. The main result can be given by using a generalized Young’s inequality and the Riccati type technique. Some examples are included to illustrate the result. Especially, an example which asserts that all nontrivial solutions are oscillatory if and only if p ≠ 2 is presented.  相似文献

Let IK be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0 complete for an ultrametric absolute value. Following results obtained in complex analysis, here we examine problems of uniqueness for meromorphic functions having finitely many poles, sharing points or a pair of sets (C.M. or I.M.) defined either in the whole field IK or in an open disk, or in the complement of an open disk. Following previous works in C, we consider functions fn(x)fm(ax + b), gn(x)gm(ax + b) with |a| = 1 and nm, sharing a rational function and we show that f/g is a n + m-th root of 1 whenever n + m ≥ 5. Next, given a small function w, if n, m ∈ IN are such that |n ? m| ≥ 5, then fn(x)fm(ax + b) ? w has infinitely many zeros. A monic polynomial \({f(x)\in {\mathbb Z}[x]}\) is said to have the height reducing property (HRP) if there exists a polynomial \({h(x)\in {\mathbb Z}[x]}\) such that

where q = f(0), |a i | ≤ (|q| ?1), i = 1, . . . , n and a n > 0. We show that any expanding monic polynomial f(x) has the height reducing property, improving a previous result in Kirat et al. (Discrete Comput Geom 31: 275–286, 2004) for the irreducible case. The proof relies on some techniques developed in the study of self-affine tiles. It is constructive and we formulate a simple tree structure to check for any monic polynomial f(x) to have the HRP and to find h(x). The property is used to study the connectedness of a class of self-affine tiles.

For drifted Brownian motion X(t) = x-µ t + B t (µ > 0) starting from x > 0, we study the joint distribution of the first-passage time below zero ,t(x), and the first-passage area ,A(x), swept out by X till the time t(x). In particular, we establish differential equations with boundary conditions for the joint moments E[t(x) m A(x) n ], and we present an algorithm to find recursively them, for any m and n. We study the Feynman-Kac semigroup generated by the Schrödinger operator based on the fractional Laplacian ??(???Δ)α/2???q in R d , for q?≥?0, α?∈?(0,2). We obtain sharp estimates of the first eigenfunction φ 1 of the Schrödinger operator and conditions equivalent to intrinsic ultracontractivity of the Feynman-Kac semigroup. For potentials q such that lim|x| →?∞? q(x)?=?∞ and comparable on unit balls we obtain that φ 1(x) is comparable to (|x|?+?1)???d???α (q(x)?+?1)???1 and intrinsic ultracontractivity holds iff lim|x| →?∞? q(x)/log|x|?=?∞. We study the problem of minimizing the functional \(I(\phi ) = \int\limits_\Omega {W(x,D\phi )dx}\) on a new class of mappings. We relax summability conditions for admissible deformations to φ ∈ W n 1 (Ω) and growth conditions on the integrand W(x, F). To compensate for that, we require the condition \(\frac{{\left| {D\phi (x)} \right|^n }} {{J(x,\phi )}} \leqslant M(x) \in L_s (\Omega )\), s > n ? 1, on the characteristic of distortion. On assuming that the integrand W(x, F) is polyconvex and coercive, we obtain an existence theorem for the problem of minimizing the functional I(φ) on a new family of admissible deformations A.  相似文献
