Using a separable fixed scatterer pion-nucleon interaction and the distorted wave impulse approximation we have made predictions for medium energy pion inelastic scattering from 16O and (π?, π0) charge exchange from 48Ca. An optical potential based on the pion-nucleon interaction adopted in this work has been shown previously to provide good fits to pion-nucleus elastic scattering. After a discussion of the basic formulae, we present results of calculations for pion inelastic scattering from 16O for initial pion lab kinetic energies of 70 and 180 MeV. Because of the strong energy dependence of the pion-nucleon interaction there are qualitative differences between the predictions for the nuclear response in the momentum transfer, energy loss plane for Tπlab = 70 and 180 MeV. At these energies, states not prominently excited by other probes are predicted to be observable. In particular, Jπ = 3? and 4?, T = 0 states appear prominently in the excitation spectrum region at large momentum transfer. A comparison of π? and π+ scattering showing the effects of the Coulomb interaction is presented. The predictions for pion single-charge exchange on 48Ca indicate that this interaction would be useful for studying the location of the T> states arising from the splitting of the giant dipole resonance in T ≠ 0 nuclei.  相似文献

Couplings of πN resonances with masses between 1.65 and 1.97 GeV/c2 to Δπ and ?N channels are determined using the scattering matrix elements resulting from inelastic partial-wave analyses of πN → Nππ. The inelastic amplitudes were derived using an isobar model with a π-exchange based high partial-wave input. These couplings are compared to those derived from an analysis of πN → Nππ without a high partial-wave input. Some (weak) evidence for coupling of the ?N channel to the P31(1910) resonance seen in elastic phase-shift analyses is found.  相似文献

Double differential cross sections for the inclusive reaction 4He(π, π′)X have been measured for six pion energies between 90 and 320 MeV and an angular range from 30° to 135°. The data are interpreted in terms of the Δ-hole formalism. Medium corrections to the free π-nucleon scattering operator are important for a quantitative understanding of our results. Total inelastic cross sections are obtained and estimates for the absorption cross section are given.  相似文献

π ±-Nucleus scattering cross sections are calculated applying the Watanabe superposition model with a phenomenological Woods-Saxon potential. The phenomenological potential parameters are searched for π ± scattering from 6Li and 12C to reproduce not only differential elastic cross sections but also inelastic and total and reaction cross sections at pion kinetic energies from 50 to 672 MeV. The optical potentials of 6Li and 12C are calculated in terms of the alpha particle and deuteron optical potentials. Inelastic scattering has been analyzed using the distorted waves from elastic-scattering data. The values of deformation lengths thus obtained compare very well with the ones reported earlier.  相似文献

The spins of resonances appearing at 22 MeV c.m. entrance channel energy in the 12C + 16O system are determined. Several inelastic transitions are used and a value of Jπ = 15? is deduced. This value disagrees with a previous Jπ = 14+ assignment based on elastic scattering, but agrees with the Jπ = 15? value predicted at this energy by a recent microscopic calculation of 12C + 16O scattering.  相似文献

The (π?, π?n) and the (π+, π+p) reactions were studied on C, Fe, and Bi at 165 MeV by coincidence measurement o outgoing particles. The nucleon-knockout reaction is the dominant inelastic process at backward pion-scattering angles at this energy. The quasifree (π?, π?n) and (π+, π+p) cross sections were determined from the π-N an correlations. Their σqf(π?, π?n)/σqf(π+, π+p) ratio is consistent with unity for C and is larger than the N/Z ratio for the heavier nuclei.  相似文献

Properties of proton diffractive dissociation have been investigated for four-prong final states in proton-proton reactions at 360 GeV/c, in particular forppppπ +π? 0(m=0,1,2). Mass distributions and decay angular distributions are given. The decay of the diffractive system is seen to be very anisotropic, and largep T is suppressed at higher masses. It is found that the “pomeron” couples with a single valence quark of the incident proton, but indications for a diquark-pomeron coupling are also found. Similarities with fragmentation in lepton-hadron deep inelastic scattering are underlined.  相似文献

We present a parton model interpretation of the predictions of quantum chromodynamics in the process e+e?→hadron + anything. We give thecomplete list of parameters needed for the study of the scaling violations of fragmentation functions up to the next-to-leading logarithmic approximation. This includes flavour non-singlet and flavour singlet anomalous dimensions up to order α2 and coefficient functions up to order α. We also present results for the deep inelastic scattering e?h→e? + anything. We find that in e+e? annihilation the ratio of scaling violations of second order to first order is in general bigger than the corresponding ratio for deep inelastic scattering. The Gribov-Lipatov relation is thus violated in second order. We also find that a modified Drell-Yan analytic continuation relation holds between the deep inelastic and annihilation structure functions for quarks and gluons. In x space we give detailed numerical evaluation of the QCD effects for non-singlet and singlet densities, in the space-like and time-like regions.  相似文献

The contribution of the inelastic channels K ? p, where = Σ? π +, Σ + π ?, Σ 0 π 0, or λ0 π 0, kinematically allowed at the K ? p threshold to the S-wave scattering length of elastic K ? p scattering, as well as the shift of the ground-state energy of kaonic hydrogen, is calculated. The result, δa 0 K?p = ?0.037 ± 0.010 fm and δε 1s = 15 ± 4 eV, will be important for the theoretical analysis of the expected data from the experiments scheduled by the DEAR and SIDDHARTA Collaborations at the end of 2006.  相似文献

We use the quark recombination model of Das and Hwa to predict the inclusive meson spectra (π+, π?,K +,K ?) in the target fragmentation region for processes in which a large transverse momentum jet is produced by a nearly real photon. We find that the antiparticle ratios of such target jet mesons are sensitive to the type of process which has produced the largep t jet. By comparing the ratios found in photoproduction to those in deep inelastic scattering we point out that it is in principle possible to identify the presence of the Bethe-Heitler photoproduction subprocess. We conclude that the target jet remnants can contribute to separating the subprocesses responsible for the photoproduction of largep t jets.  相似文献

Dominating proton structure has been identified in the Kπ=3+ band of 168Yb, contrasting with neutron structure in the corresponding band of 172Yb. A region of low-lying Kπ=3+ bands is now established, with N=98?104, Z=68?72. For all stable nuclei in this region, the IπK=4+3 state is excited by inelastic deutron scattering.  相似文献

We have detected the 4f 7(5d6s)3→4f 8(5d6s)2 interband transition in an angular-resolved, inelastic scattering experiment with spin-polarized, low-energy electrons from ferromagnetic Gd(0001). The spectrum of the inelastic scattering asymmetry clearly reveals the dominant spin-dependent energy loss mechanism involved. Furthermore its comparison with elastic scattering data allows a characterization of the combined role of diffraction and energy loss processes in inelastic electron scattering.  相似文献

The slope of the inelastic overlap function in the 30–1500 GeV p-p scattering is evaluated in a multi-Regge model for inclusive reactions of ppπ±X and pX. The slope is found larger than the experimental, particularly at high energies. Cluster production and an increase with energy of the averaged pion multiplicity per cluster are inferred.  相似文献

Measurements of the inelastic scattering of 30 MeV protons from 138Ba and 144Sm have been carried out with 7–10 keV energy resolution. Differential cross sections were measured for levels up through 3.4 MeV excitation energy. For most of these states Jπ assignments are suggested on the basis of angular distributions distinctly characteristic of angular momentum transfer L = 2, 3, 4,or 6.  相似文献

The distribution of the magnetic dipole strength in 58Ni in the excitation energy range Ex = 6–15 MeV has been studied with high resolution inelastic electron scattering. Altogether 47 Jπ = 1+ states have been determined. The summed Ml strength is Σ B(M1)↑ = 16.9−3.3+4.6μN2. A shell model calculation including 1p-1h excitations is used to discuss the fragmentation, the summed strength and the relative importance of spin versus orbital magnetism. By comparison with inelastic proton scattering and charge exchange reactions the isospin structure of the M l strength distribution is analysed.  相似文献

Precise experimental information has been obtained on the distribution of orbital M1 strength using high resolution nuclear resonance fluorescence and inelastic electron scattering. We report on the first observation of those Jπ = 1+ states in actinide nuclei that are excited by the M1 scissors mode. The M1 strength induced through the convection current part of the M1 operator is closely centered around 2 MeV in both nuclei. The observed spreading of strength is again of the same magnitude that has been observed already in rare-earth nuclei.  相似文献

Elastic (Jp = 1+, T = 0) and inelastic (Jp = 3+, T = 0, Ex = 2.19 MeV) data were obtained over large angular ranges. Scattering lengths of pionic 3He and 4He and the charge exchange contribution to the 1s width of pionic 3He are calculated within the fixed scatterer approximation of the multiple scattering formalism. Particular attention is focussed on the nuclear physics part and on πN p-wave contributions. For the first time triple scattering and double-spin-flip contributions have been included. We find significant deviations from previous estimates and calculations. Good agreement is achieved with the experimental π?3He scattering length, whereas in the case of 4He a repulsive dispersion contribution is clearly needed. We propose to use the measured 1s level shift of pionic 3He as a constraint to deduce a precise value of the isoscalar πN scattering length. Furthermore, we find that multiple scattering reduces the impulse approximation value for Γ1s(π?3He → π0 3H) by more thsn 20 %. This result casts some doubt on impulse approximation calculations of radiative pion capture as well.  相似文献
