The influence of non-covalent σ–π orbital interactions on triplet–triplet energy transfer (TTET) through tuning of the donor excitation energy remains basically unexplored. In the present work, we have investigated intermolecular TTET using donor moieties covalently linked to a rigid cholesterol (Ch) scaffold. For this purpose, diaryl ketones of π,π* electronic configuration tethered to α- or β-Ch were prepared from tiaprofenic acid (TPA) and suprofen (SUP). The obtained systems TPA-α-Ch, TPA-β-Ch, SUP-α-Ch and SUP-β-Ch were submitted to photophysical studies (laser flash photolysis and phosphorescence), in order to delineate the influence of steric shielding and σ–π orbital interactions on the rate of TTET to a series of energy acceptors. As a matter of fact, fine tuning of the donor triplet energy significantly modifies the rate constants of TTET in the absence of diffusion control. The experimental results are rationalized by means of theoretical calculations using first principles methods based on DFT as well as molecular dynamics.  相似文献

We report the properties of a new series of wide band gap photovoltaic polymers based on the N-alkyl 2-pyridone dithiophene (PDT) unit. These polymers are effective bulk heterojunction solar cell materials when blended with phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM). They achieve power conversion efficiencies (up to 5.33%) high for polymers having such large bandgaps, ca. 2.0 eV (optical) and 2.5 eV (electrochemical). Grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) reveals strong correlations between π–π stacking distance and regularity, polymer backbone planarity, optical absorption maximum energy, and photovoltaic efficiency.  相似文献

We report the first asymmetric sulfa-Michael addition (SMA) reactions using a chiral N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) as a non-covalent organocatalyst. We demonstrate that a triazolium salt derived NHC functions as an excellent Brønsted base to promote enantioselective carbon–sulfur bond formation. The reaction is applicable to a wide range of thiols and electrophilic olefins. Notably, quaternary chiral centers bearing both an S atom and a CF3 group were synthesized with excellent asymmetric control. Mechanistic studies suggest that the facial discrimination is likely to be guided by non-covalent interactions: hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking.  相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks are promising materials for applications such as gas capture, separation, and storage, due to their ability to selectively adsorb small molecules. The metal–organic framework CuI-MFU-4l, which contains coordinatively unsaturated copper(i) centers, can engage in backbonding interactions with various small molecule guests, motivating the design of frameworks that engage in backbonding and other electronic interactions for highly efficient and selective adsorption. Here, we examine several gases expected to bind to the open copper(i) sites in CuI-MFU-4l via different electronic interactions, including σ-donation, π-backbonding, and formal electron transfer. We show that in situ Cu L-edge near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy can elucidate π-backbonding by directly probing excitations to unoccupied backbonding orbitals with Cu d-character, even for gases that participate in other dominant interactions, such as ligand-to-metal σ-donation. First-principles calculations based on density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory additionally reveal the backbonding molecular orbitals associated with these spectroscopic transitions. The energies of the transitions correlate with the energy levels of the isolated small molecule adsorbates, and the transition intensities are proportional to the binding energies of the guest molecules within CuI-MFU-4l. By elucidating the molecular and electronic structure origins of backbonding interactions between electron rich metal centers in metal–organic frameworks and small molecule guests, it is possible to develop guidelines for further molecular-level design of solid-state adsorbents for energy-efficient separations of relevance to industry.

In situ near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy directly probes unoccupied states associated with backbonding interactions between the open metal site in a metal–organic framework and various small molecule guests.  相似文献

Main group organometallic compounds can exhibit unusual optical properties arising from hybrid σ,π-conjugation. While linear silanes are extensively studied, the shortage of methods for the controlled synthesis of well-defined cyclic materials has precluded the study of cyclic conjugation. Herein we report that Ru-catalyzed addition of cyclosilanes to aryl acetylenes (hydrosilylation) proceeds with high chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, and diastereoselectivity, affording complex organosilanes that absorb visible light. We further show that the hydrosilylation products are useful building blocks towards novel conjugated polymers.

Hybrid σ,π-conjugated cyclosilanes were synthesized via highly selective hydrosilylation and have shown great potentials as building blocks to construct novel conjugated polymers with control of tacticity.  相似文献

This paper presents an improved synthesis of 4,7-dibromobenzo[d][1,2,3]thiadiazole from commercially available reagents. According to quantum-mechanical calculations, benzo[d][1,2,3]thiadiazole (isoBTD) has higher values of ELUMO and energy band gap (Eg), which indicates high electron conductivity, occurring due to the high stability of the molecule in the excited state. We studied the cross-coupling reactions of this dibromide and found that the highest yields of π-spacer–acceptor–π-spacer type compounds were obtained by means of the Stille reaction. Therefore, 6 new structures of this type have been synthesized. A detailed study of the optical and electrochemical properties of the obtained π-spacer–acceptor–π-spacer type compounds in comparison with isomeric structures based on benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (BTD) showed a red shift of absorption maxima with lower absorptive and luminescent capacity. However, the addition of the 2,2′-bithiophene fragment as a π-spacer resulted in an unexpected increase of the extinction coefficient in the UV/vis spectra along with a blue shift of both absorption maxima for the isoBTD-based compound as compared to the BTD-based compound. Thus, a thorough selection of components in the designing of appropriate compounds with benzo[d][1,2,3]thiadiazole as an internal acceptor can lead to promising photovoltaic materials.  相似文献

Engineering the preorganization of photoactive units remains a big challenge in solid-state photochemistry research. It is of not only theoretical importance in the construction of topochemical reactions but also technological significance in the fabrication of advanced materials. Here, a cyanostilbene derivative, (Z)-2-(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-3-(naphthalen-2-yl) acrylonitrile (BNA), was crystallized into two polymorphs under different conditions. The two crystals, BNA-α and BNA-β, have totally different intra-π-dimer and inter-π-dimer hierarchical architectures on the basis of a very simple monomer, which provides them with distinct reactivities, functions and photoresponsive properties. Firstly, two different types of solid-state [2 + 2] photocycloaddition reaction: (i) a typical olefin–olefin cycloaddition reaction within the symmetric π-dimers of BNA-α and (ii) an unusual olefin-aromatic ring cycloaddition reaction within the offset π-dimers of BNA-β have been observed, respectively. Secondly, the crystal of BNA-α can be bent to 90° without any fracture, exhibiting outstanding flexibility upon UV irradiation, while the reversible photocycloaddition/thermal cleavage process (below 100 °C) accompanied by unique fluorescence changes can be achieved in the crystal of BNA-β. Finally, micro-scale photoactuators and light-writable anti-counterfeiting materials have been successfully fabricated. This work paves a simple way to construct smart materials through a bottom-up way that is realized by manipulating hierarchical architectures in the solid state.

Two crystals with different hierarchical architectures are observed based on a single molecule, achieving different types of [2 + 2] photocycloaddition. Finally, controllable photoactuators and light-writable materials are successfully fabricated.  相似文献

Because supramolecular polymerization of emissive π-conjugated molecules depends strongly on π–π stacking interaction, the formation of well-defined one-dimensional nanostructures often results in a decrease or only a small increase of emission efficiency. This is also true for our barbiturate-based supramolecular polymers wherein hydrogen-bonded rosettes of barbiturates stack quasi-one-dimensionally through π–π stacking interaction. Herein we report supramolecular polymerization-induced emission of two regioisomeric 2,3-diphenylthiophene derivatives functionalized with barbituric acid and tri(dodecyloxy)benzyl wedge units. In CHCl3, both compounds are molecularly dissolved and accordingly poorly emissive due to a torsion-induced non-radiative decay. In methylcyclohexane-rich conditions, these barbiturates self-assemble to form crystalline nanofibers and exhibit strongly enhanced emission through supramolecular polymerization driven by hydrogen-bonding. Our structural analysis suggests that the barbiturates form a tape-like hydrogen-bonding motif, which is rationalized by considering that the twisted geometries of 2,3-diphenylthiophene cores prevend the competing rosettes from stacking into columnar supramolecular polymers. We also found that a small difference in the molecular polarity originating from the substitutional position of the thiophene core influences interchain association of the supramolecular polymers, affording different luminescent soft materials, gel and nanosheet.

Two barbiturate dyes with regioisomeric thiophene-cored twisted π-systems show strongly enhanced emission through supramolecular polymerization. The supramolecular polymers thus formed exhibit distinct emission colors and degree of agglomeration.  相似文献

[1.1.1]Propellane is the ubiquitous precursor to bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes (BCPs), motifs of high value in pharmaceutical and materials research. The classical Lewis representation of this molecule places an inter-bridgehead C–C bond along its central axis; ‘strain relief’-driven cleavage of this bond is commonly thought to enable reactions with nucleophiles, radicals and electrophiles. We propose that this broad reactivity profile instead derives from σ–π-delocalization of electron density in [1.1.1]propellane. Using ab initio and DFT calculations, we show that its reactions with anions and radicals are facilitated by increased delocalization of electron density over the propellane cage during addition, while reactions with cations involve charge transfer that relieves repulsion inside the cage. These results provide a unified framework to rationalize experimental observations of propellane reactivity, opening up opportunities for the exploration of new chemistry of [1.1.1]propellane and related strained systems that are useful building blocks in organic synthesis.

A unified framework that explains the reactivity of [1.1.1]propellane through electron delocalization.  相似文献

Rotationally inelastic collisions of NO(X) with Ar are investigated in unprecedented detail using state-to-state, crossed molecular beam experiments. The NO(X) molecules are selected in the Ω = 0.5, j = 0.5, f state and then oriented such that either the ‘N’ or ‘O’ end of the molecule is directed towards the incoming Ar atom. Velocity map ion imaging is then used to probe the scattered NO molecules in well-defined quantum states. We show that the fully quantum state-resolved differential steric asymmetry, which quantifies how the relative efficiency for scattering off the ‘O’ and the ‘N’ ends of the molecule varies with scattering angle, is strongly affected by quantum interference. Significant changes in both integral and differential cross sections are found depending on whether collisions occur with the N or O ends of the molecule. The results are well accounted for by rigorous quantum mechanical calculations, in contrast to both classical trajectory calculations and more simplistic models that provide, at best, an incomplete picture of the dynamics.  相似文献

The bifurcated σ-hole···σ-hole stacking interactions between organosulfur molecules, which are key components of organic optical and electronic materials, were investigated by using a combined method of the Cambridge Structural Database search and quantum chemical calculation. Due to the geometric constraints, the binding energy of one bifurcated σ-hole···σ-hole stacking interaction is in general smaller than the sum of the binding energies of two free monofurcated σ-hole···σ-hole stacking interactions. The bifurcated σ-hole···σ-hole stacking interactions are still of the dispersion-dominated noncovalent interactions. However, in contrast to the linear monofurcated σ-hole···σ-hole stacking interaction, the contribution of the electrostatic energy to the total attractive interaction energy increases significantly and the dispersion component of the total attractive interaction energy decreases significantly for the bifurcated σ-hole···σ-hole stacking interaction. Another important finding of this study is that the low-cost spin-component scaled zeroth-order symmetry-adapted perturbation theory performs perfectly in the study of the bifurcated σ-hole···σ-hole stacking interactions. This work will provide valuable information for the design and synthesis of novel organic optical and electronic materials.  相似文献

The electronic interaction of a catalyst and its support is of vital importance to its catalytic performance. However, it is still a great challenge to directly probe the interaction due to the lack of well-defined models and efficient technical means. In this study, we report that pod-like carbon nanotubes with encapsulated iron particles (Pod-Fe) and scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) can be used as an ideal model and technique to study the electronic interaction between carbon shells and iron particles. The chemical imaging and spectroscopy of Pod-Fe by STXM show that the local electronic structures at C K-edge near edge (π*) of carbon shells can be significantly modified by the encapsulated iron particles, which promotes the adsorption of oxygen-containing species, and thereby further modifies the electronic structure (π* and σ*) of the carbon shells. Moreover, computed X-ray absorption near edge structure spectra (XANES) confirmed the electronic modifications of carbon shells by the encapsulated iron particles. The present study provides a direct evidence of electronic interactions with simultaneously collected images and spectra, which can promote the understanding towards the nature of active sites and supports.  相似文献

In this study, two analogous perylene diimide (PDI) trimers, whose structures show rotatable single bond π-bridge connection (twisted) vs. rigid/fused π-bridge connection (planar), were synthesized and investigated. We show via time resolved spectroscopic measurements how the π-bridge connections in A–π–D–π–A–π–D–π–A multichromophoric PDI systems strongly affect the triplet yield and triplet formation rate. In the planar compound, with stronger intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) character, triplet formation occurs via conventional intersystem crossing. However, clear evidence of efficient and fast intramolecular singlet exciton fission (iSEF) is observed in the twisted trimer compound with weaker ICT character. Multiexciton triplet generation and separation occur in the twisted (flexible-bridged) PDI trimer, where weak coupling among the units is observed as a result of the degenerate double triplet and quintet states, obtained by quantum chemical calculations. The high triplet yield and fast iSEF observed in the twisted compound are due not only to enthalpic viability but also to the significant entropic gain allowed by its trimeric structure. Our results represent a significant step forward in structure–property understanding, and may direct the design of new efficient iSEF materials.

We show via time resolved spectroscopy that triplet formation proceeds via intersystem crossing in a rigid-bridged perylene diimide trimer and via efficient and fast intramolecular singlet exciton fission in the analogous flexible-bridged trimer.  相似文献

In 1996, we reported that silyl groups of 9,10-disilylanthracenes significantly affect the UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra. Although the results indicate that the silyl groups have strong electronic effects on anthracene, the details of the mechanisms responsible for this have not yet been clarified. This article describes the analysis of the UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra of 9,10-bis(diisopropylsilyl)anthracene by theoretical calculations. This study reveals that π conjugation of anthracene is extended by cooperation of σ–π and σ*–π* conjugation between the silyl groups and anthracene. This effect increases the transition moment of the π–π* transition of anthracene. As a result, the molecular extinction coefficient of the 1La band and the fluorescence quantum yield are increased.  相似文献

A new, pH dependent and water-soluble, conjugated oligomer (amino, trimethylammonium oligophenylene vinylene, ATAOPV) was synthesized with a quaternary ammonium salt and an aromatic amine at the two ends of a π-conjugated oligomer, thus creating a strong dipole across the molecule. A unique white light LED is successfully fabricated from a stimuli responsive organic molecule whose emission properties are dominated by the pH value of the solution through controlled intermolecular charge transfer.  相似文献

We report the versatile synthesis of two tribenzo[fj,ij,rst]pentaphene (TBP) derivatives bearing two diarylamine substituents attached at the opposite ends of the aromatic core. Field effect transistor (FET) devices of the bis-diarylamine-TBP compounds were fabricated using spin coating under different concentrations, spin speed, and solvent conditions. Emission spectra and surface investigation by atomic force microscopy (AFM) reveal the formation of aggregates induced by the strong π–π stacking of the aromatic core leading to island features, and thus, unexpected low hole mobilities. The synthetic strategy we show herein, however, offers the possibility to decorate the TBP core structure with various charge-carrier peripheral groups and optimized alkyl chains, which should improve the crystalline property of their thin films upon deposition, leading consequently to a better hole transport mobility.  相似文献

π–π stacking interaction is well-known to be one of the weak interactions. Its importance in the stabilization of protein structures and functionalization has been reported for various systems. We have focused on a single copper oxidase, galactose oxidase, which has the π–π stacking interaction of the alkylthio-substituted phenoxyl radical with the indole ring of the proximal tryptophan residue and catalyzes primary alcohol oxidation to give the corresponding aldehyde. This stacking interaction has been considered to stabilize the alkylthio-phenoxyl radical, but further details of the interaction are still unclear. In this review, we discuss the effect of the π–π stacking interaction of the alkylthio-substituted phenoxyl radical with an indole ring.  相似文献

Aqueous room temperature phosphorescence (aRTP) from purely organic materials has been intriguing but challenging. In this article, we demonstrated that the red aRTP emission of 2Br–NDI, a water-soluble 4,9-dibromonaphthalene diimide derivative as a chloride salt, could be modulated by anion–π and intermolecular electronic coupling interactions in water. Specifically, the rarely reported stabilization of anion–π interactions in water between Cl and the 2Br–NDI core was experimentally evidenced by an anion–π induced long-lived emission (λAnion–π) of 2Br–NDI, acting as a competitive decay pathway against the intrinsic red aRTP emission (λPhos) of 2Br–NDI. In the initial expectation of enhancing the aRTP of 2Br–NDI by inclusion complexation with macrocyclic cucurbit[n]urils (CB[n]s, n = 7, 8, 10), we surprisingly found that the exclusion complexation between CB[8] and 2Br–NDI unconventionally endowed the complex with the strongest and longest-lived aRTP due to the strong intermolecular electronic coupling between the nπ* orbit on the carbonyl rims of CB[8] and the ππ* orbit on 2Br–NDI in water. It is anticipated that these intriguing findings may inspire and expand the exploration of aqueous anion–π recognition and CB[n]-based aRTP materials.

The aqueous room temperature phosphorescence of 2Br–NDI is modulated by long-lived-emitting anion–π interactions and tremendously enhanced by intermolecular electronic coupling interactions with the ISC-boosting carbonyl rims of CB[8] host.  相似文献

3-(2-Chlorobenzylidene)-5-(p-tolyl)furan-2(3H)-one (1), C18H13ClO2, crystallizes with Z = 8 and Z′ = 2, and the structure at 100 K has orthorhombic (Pna21) symmetry. Each kind of molecule takes part in π–π stacking interactions to form infinite chains parallel to the c axis. We believe that the existence of two forms can be explained by the probable rotation around a single C–C bond. The quantum chemical modeling reveals that these molecules are almost equivalent energetically, and they can be described as the two most stable conformers (rotamers) with a minor rotational barrier of about 0.67 kcal/mol.  相似文献

Conformationally rigid X-shaped PAHs are attracting interest due to their self-assembly into unique networks and as models to study through-space exciton and charge delocalization in one single molecule. We report here the synthesis of X-shaped PAHs by dimerization of diazaheptacene diimides. The diimide groups are employed to effectively direct the self-assembly into antiparallel dimer aggregates, which assist the compounds to undergo a regiocontrolled [4 + 4] dimerization, leading to an X-shaped conformation bearing electron-poor and -rich subunits. The resulting PAHs are found to pack in 2D layers with large open channels and infinite π⋯π arrays. Furthermore, these highly crystalline porous materials serve as electron-transporting materials in OFETs due to the long-range π-stacked arrays in the layers. This work presents a potentially generalizable strategy, which may provide a unique class of porous semiconductors for organic devices, taking advantage of their open channels.

The synthesis of conformationally rigid X-shaped PAHs by regiocontrolled cyclodimerization of diazaheptacene diimides is presented. The resulting porous materials exhibit enhanced semiconducting behaviors with large open channels.  相似文献
