We consider the computation of Hopf bifurcation for ordinary differential equations. Two new extended systems are given for the calculation of Hopf bifurcation problems: the first is composed of differential-algebraic equations with index 1, the other consists of differential equations by using a symmetry inherited from the autonomous system of ordinary differential equations. Both methods are especially suitable for calculating bifurcating periodic solutions since they transform the Hopf bifurcation problem into regular nonlinear boundary value problems which are very easy to implement. The bifurcation solutions become isolated solutions of the extended system so that our methods work both in the subcritical and supercritical case. The extended systems are based on an additional parameter ε; practical experience shows that one gets convergence for ε sufficiently large so that a substantial part of the bifurcating branch can be computed. The two methods are illustrated by numerical examples and compared with other procedures.  相似文献

In this paper, the diffusion is introduced to an immunosuppressive infection model with delayed antiviral immune response. The direction and stability of Hopf bifurcation are effected by time delay, in the absence of which the positive equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable by means of analyzing eigenvalue spectrum; however, when the time delay increases beyond a threshold, the positive equilibrium loses its stability via the Hopf bifurcation. The stability and direction of the Hopf bifurcation is investigated with the norm form and the center manifold theory. The stability of the Hopf bifurcation leads to the emergence of spatial spiral patterns. Numerical calculations are performed to illustrate our theoretical results. The distribution of the roots of a second order transcendental polynomial is analyzed, and it is used for solving the purely imaginary eigenvalue of a transcendental characteristic equation with two transcendental terms. The results are applied to the stability and associated Hopf bifurcation of a constant equilibrium of a general reaction–diffusion system or a system of ordinary differential equations with delay effects. Examples from biochemical reaction and predator–prey models are analyzed using the new techniques.  相似文献

The stability of the equilibrium solution is analyzed for coupled systems of retarded functional differential equations near a supercritical Hopf bifurcation. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for asymptotic stability under general coupling conditions. It is shown that the largest eigenvalue of the graph Laplacian completely characterizes the effect of the connection topology on the stability of diffusively and symmetrically coupled identical systems. In particular, all bipartite graphs have identical stability characteristics regardless of their size. Furthermore, bipartite graphs and large complete graphs provide, respectively, lower and upper bounds for the parametric stability regions for arbitrary connection topologies. Generalizations are given for networks with asymmetric coupling. The results characterize the connection topology as a mechanism for the death of coupled oscillators near Hopf bifurcation.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with a predator–prey system with Holling II functional response and hunting delay and gestation. By regarding the sum of delays as the bifurcation parameter, the local stability of the positive equilibrium and the existence of Hopf bifurcation are investigated. We obtained explicit formulas to determine the properties of Hopf bifurcation by using the normal form method and center manifold theorem. Special attention is paid to the global continuation of local Hopf bifurcation. Using a global Hopf bifurcation result of Wu [Wu JH. Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory, Trans Amer Math Soc 1998;350:4799–4838] for functional differential equations, we may show the global existence of the periodic solutions. Finally, several numerical simulations illustrating the theoretical analysis are also given.  相似文献

In this paper, a simplified congestion control model is considered to study the quasiperiodic motion induced by heterogenous time delays. Analysis for the stability of the equilibrium shows that the Hopf bifurcation curves with diverse frequencies may intersect at the so-called non-resonant double Hopf bifurcation point. Choosing the delays as the bifurcation parameters and employing the method of multiple scales, the amplitude–frequency equations or normal form equations are obtained theoretically. Based on these equations, the dynamics near the bifurcation point is classified. The values of the delays for which the quasiperiodic motion exists can be predicted with an acceptable accuracy. This result provides a reference in designing and optimizing the network systems.  相似文献

A class of three level food chain system is studied. With the theory of delay equations and Hopf bifurcation, the conditions of the positive equilibrium undergoing Hopf bifurcation is given regarding τ as the parameter. The stability and direction of Hopf bifurcation are determined by applying the normal form theory and the center manifold argument, and numerical simulations are performed to illustrate the analytical results.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with a diffusive population model of Logistic type with an instantaneous density-dependent term and two delayed density-dependent terms and subject to the zero-Dirichlet boundary condition. By regarding the delay as the bifurcation parameter and analyzing in detail the associated eigenvalue problem, the local asymptotic stability and the existence of Hopf bifurcation for the sufficiently small positive steady state solution are shown. It is found that under the suitable condition, the positive steady state solution of the model will become ultimately unstable after a single stability switch (or change) at a certain critical value of delay through a Hopf bifurcation. However, under the other condition, the positive steady state solution of the model will become ultimately unstable after multiple stability switches at some certain critical values of delay through Hopf bifurcations. In addition, the direction of the above Hopf bifurcations and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are analyzed by means of the center manifold theory and normal form method for partial functional differential equations. Finally, in order to illustrate the correction of the obtained theoretical results, some numerical simulations are also carried out.  相似文献

In this paper, an age‐structured population model with the form of neutral functional differential equation is studied. We discuss the stability of the positive equilibrium by analyzing the characteristic equation. Local Hopf bifurcation results are also obtained by choosing the mature delay as bifurcation parameter. On the center manifold, the normal form of the Hopf bifurcation is derived, and explicit formulae for determining the criticality of bifurcation are theoretically given. Moreover, the global continuation of Hopf bifurcating periodic solutions is investigated by using the global Hopf bifurcation theory of neutral equations. Finally, some numerical examples are carried out to support the main results.  相似文献

The dynamics of a class of abstract delay differential equations are investigated. We prove that a sequence of Hopf bifurcations occur at the origin equilibrium as the delay increases. By using the theory of normal form and centre manifold, the direction of Hopf bifurcations and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions is derived. Then, the existence of the global Hopf bifurcation of the system is discussed by applying the global Hopf bifurcation theorem of general functional differential equation.  相似文献

The dynamics of a reaction–diffusion plankton system with delay and toxic substances effect is considered. Existence and priori bound of a solution for a model without delay are shown. Global asymptotic stability of the axial equilibrium is obtained. The stability of the positive equilibrium and the existence of Hopf bifurcation are investigated by analyzing the distribution of eigenvalues. And the properties of Hopf bifurcation are determined by the normal form theory and the center manifold reduction for partial functional differential equations. Some numerical simulations are carried out for illustrating the theoretical results.  相似文献

We establish an analytic local Hopf bifurcation theorem and a topological global Hopf bifurcation theorem to detect the existence and to describe the spatial-temporal pattern, the asymptotic form and the global continuation of bifurcations of periodic wave solutions for functional differential equations in the presence of symmetry. We apply these general results to obtain the coexistence of multiple large-amplitude wave solutions for the delayed Hopfield-Cohen-Grossberg model of neural networks with a symmetric circulant connection matrix.

In this paper, a diffusive predator–prey system with a constant prey refuge and time delay subject to Neumann boundary condition is considered. Local stability and Turing instability of the positive equilibrium are studied. The effect of time delay on the model is also obtained, including locally asymptotical stability and existence of Hopf bifurcation at the positive equilibrium. And the properties of Hopf bifurcation are determined by center manifold theorem and normal form theorem of partial functional differential equations. A delayed SVEIRS model for the transmission of worms in internet with partial immunization is proposed. The impact of the possible combination of the two delays on the model is investigated. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equations and regarding the possible combination of the two delays as the bifurcation parameter, local stability of the endemic equilibrium and existence of local Hopf bifurcation at the viral equilibrium are addressed, respectively. Further, explicit formulas that determine direction and stability of the Hopf bifurcation are derived with the help of the normal form theory and the center manifold theorem. Finally, some numerical simulations are carried out to verify the obtained theoretical findings.  相似文献

In this paper, a modified Holling-Tanner predator-prey model with time delay is considered. By regarding the delay as the bifurcation parameter, the local asymptotic stability of the positive equilibrium is investigated. Meanwhile, we find that the system can also undergo a Hopf bifurcation of nonconstant periodic solution at the positive equilibrium when the delay crosses through a sequence of critical values. In particular, we study the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcated periodic solutions, an explicit algorithm is given by applying the normal form theory and the center manifold reduction for functional differential equations. Finally, numerical simulations supporting the theoretical analysis are also included.  相似文献

The dynamics of a food-limited population model with delay are investigated. We prove that a sequence of Hopf bifurcations occur at the positive equilibrium as the delay increases. An explicit algorithm for determining the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions is derived, using the theory of normal form and center manifold. Global existence of periodic solutions is established by using a global Hopf bifurcation result due to [J. Wu, Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory, Trans. Resonance in Hopf bifurcation causes complicated bifurcation behaviors. To design with certain desired Hopf bifurcation characteristics in the resonance cases of discrete-time systems, a feedback control method is developed. The controller is designed with the aid of discrete-time washout filters. The control law is constructed according to the criticality and stability conditions of Hopf bifurcations as well as resonance constraints. The control gains associated with linear control terms insure the creation of a Hopf bifurcation in resonance cases and the control gains associated with nonlinear control terms determine the type and stability of bifurcated solutions. To derive the former, we propose the implicit criteria of eigenvalue assignment and transversality condition for creating the bifurcation in a desired parameter location. To derive the latter, the technique of the center manifold reduction, Iooss’s Hopf bifurcation theory and Wan’s Hopf bifurcation theory for resonance cases are employed. In numerical experiments, we show the Hopf circles and fixed points from the created Hopf bifurcations in the strong and weak resonance cases for a four-dimensional control system.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate a reaction–diffusion–advection model with time delay effect. The stability/instability of the spatially nonhomogeneous positive steady state and the associated Hopf bifurcation are investigated when the given parameter of the model is near the principle eigenvalue of an elliptic operator. Our results imply that time delay can make the spatially nonhomogeneous positive steady state unstable for a reaction–diffusion–advection model, and the model can exhibit oscillatory pattern through Hopf bifurcation. The effect of advection on Hopf bifurcation values is also considered, and our results suggest that Hopf bifurcation is more likely to occur when the advection rate increases.  相似文献

We give an analytical parametrization of the curves of purely imaginary eigenvalues in the delay-parameter plane of the linearized neural field network equations with space-dependent delays. In order to determine if the rightmost eigenvalue is purely imaginary, we have to compute a finite number of such curves; the number of curves is bounded by a constant for which we give an expression. The Hopf bifurcation curve lies on these curves.  相似文献
