Magnetic properties of double perovskite compounds Ba2HoRuO6 and Ba2HoIrO6 have been reported. Powder X-ray and neutron diffraction measurements show that these compounds have a cubic perovskite-type structure with the space group and the 1:1 ordered arrangement of Ho3+ and Ru5+ (or Ir5+) over the 6-coordinate B sites. Results of the magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements show that Ba2HoRuO6 exhibits two magnetic anomalies at 22 and 50 K. Analysis of the temperature dependence of magnetic specific heat indicates that the anomaly at 50 K is due to the antiferromagnetic ordering of Ru5+ ions and that the anomaly at 22 K is ascribable to the magnetic interaction between Ho3+ ions. Neutron diffraction data collected at 10 and 35 K show that the Ba2HoRuO6 has a long range antiferromagnetic ordering involving both Ho3+ and Ru5+ ions. Each of their magnetic moments orders in a Type I arrangement and these magnetic moments are anti-parallel in the ab-plane with each other. The magnetic moments are aligned along the c-direction. On the other hand, Ba2HoIrO6 is paramagnetic down to 1.8 K.  相似文献

Profile analysis of constant-wavelength powder neutron diffraction data has been used to refine the crystal structure of the ordered perovskite Ca2YRuO6. The material is monoclinic (space group P21n) with a disordered arrangement of calcium and yttrium on the A site and one of the B sites, such that the formula is best written as Ca1.43Y0.57[(Ca0.57Y0.43)Ru]O6. Low-temperature neutron diffraction experiments showed that the material is a Type I antiferromagnet at 2.5 K with an ordered magnetic moment of 1.2(1)μB per Ru5+. It is suggested that the dominant factor in determining the electronic properties of the series M2+2X3+Ru5+O6 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba; X = La, Y) is the Ru-Ru separation distance.  相似文献

Profile analysis of high-resolution, powder neutron-diffraction data was used to refine the previously reported structures of the ordered, distorted perovskites Ba2LaRuO6 and Ca2LaRuO6. Low-temperature neutron diffraction experiments showed that, at 2K, the former is a Type IIIa antiferromagnet while the latter is Type I. Both compounds have an ordered magnetic moment of μRu ? 1.95μB per Ru5+ ion. The Néel temperature of Ba2LaRuO6 was determined to be 29.5K, and the covalent mixing between the ruthenium and nearest-neighbor anions is described by A2π = 8.2 ± 1% for Ba2LaRuO6 and 8.6 ± 1% for Ca2LaRuO6. The ionic radius of a Ru5+ ion is 0.56 Å. These data are consistently interpreted within the framework of a strongly correlated, half-filled π1 band. Extension of this interpretation to the magnetic data for the perovskites CaRuO3 and SrRuO3 leads to a fundamental theoretical prediction.  相似文献

The magnetic, electronic, and structural properties of the solid solutions LaxSr1−xRuO3 and LaxCa1−xRuO3 have been studied by 99Ru Mössbauer spectroscopy and other techniques. The LaxCa1−xRuO3 phases are reported for the first time and have been shown by powder X-ray diffraction measurements to be orthorhombically distorted perovskites. Electrical resistivity measurements on compacted powders show that all the phases are metallic with p 10−3, ohm-cm. Progressive substitution of Sr2+ by La3+ in ferromagnetic SrRuO3 leads to a rapid collapse of the magnetic hyper-fine splitting at 4.2°K. For x = 0.25 some ruthenium ions still experience a magnetic field but for 0.4 x 0.75 only single, narrow resonance lines are observed, consistent both with the complete removal of the ferromagnetism and with the presence of an averaged ruthenium oxidation state in each phase, i.e., Lax3+Sr1−x2+Ru(4−x)+O3 rather than Lax3+Sr1−x2+Rux3+Ru1−x4+O3. LaRuO3 and CaRuO3 both give essentially single-line spectra at 4.2°K, indicating that the ruthenium ions in these oxides are not involved in long-range antiferromagnetic order but are paramagnetic. The solid solutions LaxCa1−xRuO3 (0 < x 0.6) give sharp symmetrical singlets with chemical isomer shifts (relative to the Ru metal) which move progressively from the value characteristic of Ru4+ (−0.303 mm sec−1) toward the value for Ru3+ (−0.557 mm sec−1), consistent with the presence of intermediate ruthenium oxidation states in these phases also.  相似文献

The crystal structure of Sr4Mn2NiO9 has been refined on single crystal. This phase belongs to the series A1+x(AxB1–x)O3 (x=1/3) related to the 2H-hexagonal perovskite. The structure contains transition metals in chains of oxide polyhedra (trigonal prisms and octahedra); neighboring chains are separated from each other by the Sr atoms. The sequence of the face sharing polyhedra along the chains is two octahedra + one trigonal prism. Mn occupies the octahedra and Ni is disordered in the trigonal prism with ≈80% in the pseudo square faces of the prism and ≈20% at the centre. This result has been confirmed by XANES experiments at Mn K and Ni K edges, respectively. Sr4Mn2NiO9 is antiferromagnetic with a Néel temperature at T=3 K. The Curie constant measured at high temperature is in good agreement with ≈80% of the Ni2+ ions in the spin state configuration S=0.  相似文献

The distribution of d electrons over the cations in MoFe2O4, which is represented by the formal valence assignment, is shown to be complicated by the equilibrium reactionsFe2+B+Fe3+A+Mo3+Fe3+B+Fe2+A+Mo4+We have used thermal treatment to confirm that the Mo are primarily on octahedral sites; FeA[MoBFeB]O4. K-shell absorption and Mössbauer data at T = 423 K > Tc demonstrate that the iron has an average valence near 2.5+ with fast electron transfer (τh < 10−8 sec) on both octahedral and tetrahedral sites. Paramagnetic susceptibility data give a Curie constant CM = 7.95 ± 0.2 emu/mole and a Weiss constant θp = −445 K; magnetometer measurements confirm a compensation point near 160 K. Transport data give a surprisingly high electronic conductivity, but also give an activated mobility similar to that found in AlFe2O4 and CrFe2O4 where mixed Fe3+/2+ valences on both A and B sites have been demonstrated. However, a positive Seebeck coefficient and a preexponential factor one order of magnitude higher in MoFe2O4 point to involvement of a fraction of the Mo atoms in electronic transport, which would be consistent with the observation of a τh < 10−8 sec on the A sites of a spinel. An energy diagram consistent with these data and other information about the relative redox potentials of these ions in oxides are proposed for this system.  相似文献

The crystal and magnetic structures of the brownmillerite material, Ca2Fe1.039(8)Mn0.962(8)O5 were investigated using powder X-ray and neutron diffraction methods, the latter from 3.8 to 700 K. The compound crystallizes in Pnma space group with unit cell parameters of a=5.3055(5) Å, b=15.322(2) Å, c=5.4587(6) Å at 300 K. The neutron diffraction study revealed the occupancies of Fe3+ and Mn3+ ions in both octahedral and tetrahedral sites and showed some intersite mixing and a small, ∼4%, Fe excess. While bulk magnetization data were inconclusive, variable temperature neutron diffraction measurements showed the magnetic transition temperature to be 407(2) K below which a long range antiferromagnetic ordering of spins occurs with ordering wave vector k=(000). The spins of each ion are coupled antiferromagnetically with the nearest neighbors within the same layer and coupled antiparallel to the closest ions from the neighboring layer. This combination of intra- and inter-layer antiparallel arrangement of spins forms a G-type magnetic structure. The ordered moments on the octahedral and tetrahedral sites at 3.8 K are 3.64(16) and 4.23(16) μB, respectively.  相似文献

Time-of-flight powder neutron diffraction data have been used to refine the crystal structure of the ordered, distorted perovskite Sr2YRuO6. Yttrium and ruthenium are octahedrally coordinated in this material with average MO bond lengths of 2.202 and 1.955 Å, respectively. Constant wavelength neutron diffraction data show that Sr2YRuO6 is a Type I antiferromagnet at 4.2 K with an ordered magnetic moment of 1.85 μB per Ru5+ ion. The Néel temperature of Sr2YRuO6 was determined to be 26 K. The data suggest that the 4d3 electrons in this material are localized rather than itinerant.  相似文献

Ca2FeAl1−xMgxO5 (x=0, 0.05 and 0.1) compounds adopting the brownmillerite-type structure were prepared by a self-combustion route using two different fuels. Characterisation was performed using X-ray powder diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetisation measurements, chemical analysis, scanning electron microscopy and 4-point dc conductivity measurements. Global results indicate that the solubility limit was reached for x=0.1. An antiferromagnetic behaviour was detected for all studied compositions, with magnetic ordering temperatures of 340 and 290 K for x=0 and 0.05, respectively. Mg doping increases the number of iron cations in tetrahedral sites, which induces magnetisation enhancement at low temperatures through the coupling between octahedral iron cations in different octahedral planes. The compounds exhibit semiconductor behaviour and Mg2+ doping yields a significant enhancement of the total conductivity, which can be essentially attributed to the presence of Fe4+ ions.  相似文献

The crystal structure of K2Cu3(As2O6)2 was determined from single-crystal X-ray data by a direct method strategy and Fourier summations [a = 10.359(4) Å, B = 5.388(2)Å, C = 11.234(4) Å, β = 110.48(2)°; space group C2/m; Z = 2; Rw = 0.025 for 1199 reflections up to sin /λ = 0.81 Å−1]. In detail, the structure consists of As(V)O4 tetrahedra and As(III)O3 pyramids linked by a common O corner atom to [As(V)As(III)O6]4− groups with symmetry m. The bridging bonds As(V)---O [1.749(3) Å] and As(III)---O [1.838(2) Å] are definitely longer than the other As(V)---O bonds [mean 1.669 Å] and As(III)---O bonds [1.764(2) Å, 2×]. The angle As(V)---O---As(III) is 123.0(1)°. The Cu atoms are [4 + 2]- and [4 + 1]-, and the K atom is [9]-coordinated to oxygen atoms. The As2O6 groups and the Cu coordination polyhedra are linked to sheets parallel to (001). These sheets are connected by the K atoms. Single crystals of K2Cu3(As2O6)2 suitable for X-ray work were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions.  相似文献

Single crystals of iron(II) pyroborate, Fe2B2O5, were prepared at 1000–1050 °C under an argon atmosphere. The crystals were transparent, yellowish in color and needle-like or columnar. The crystal structure of Fe2B2O5 was analyzed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Refined triclinic unit cell parameters were a=3.2388(2), b=6.1684(5), c=9.3866(8) Å, α=104.613(3)°, β=90.799(2)° and γ=91.731(2)°. The final reliability factors of refinement were R1=0.020 and wR2=0.059 [I > 2σ(I)]. Transmittance over 50% in the visible light region from 500 to 750 nm was observed for a single crystal of Fe2B2O5 with a thickness of about 0.3 mm. The light absorption edge estimated from a diffuse reflectance spectrum was at around 350 nm (3.6 eV). Magnetic susceptibility was measured for single crystals at 4–300 K. Fe2B2O5 showed antiferromagnetic behavior below the Néel temperature, TN≈70 K, and the Weiss temperature was TW=36 K. The effective magnetic moment of Fe was 5.3μB.  相似文献

The series of compounds M2EuRuO6 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) has been studied by 151Eu Mössbauer spectroscopy. X-Ray data show them to be structurally derived from the ABO3 perovskite lattice, but only the Ba compound gives positive evidence to suggest ordering of the Eu3+Ru5+ cations. The 151Eu resonance shows magnetic hyperfine splitting at 4.2 K. The Ru5+OEu3+ORu5+ exchange takes place by admixture of low-lying excited states into the diamagnetic J = 0 ground-state of the Eu3+. The Curie temperatures are approximately 18, 31, and 42 K for the Ca, Sr, and Ba compounds. Detailed analysis shows that substantial disorder of cations occurs, being quite large for Ca, <8% for Sr, and <5% for Ba. However, it appears that considerable canting of the Ru5+ spins takes place in the Ba compound immediately below the Curie temperature as a result of the disorder and low anisotropy at the Ru sites. This effect is much reduced in the more distorted Sr compound.  相似文献

The double phosphate Ca9Eu(PO4)7, obtained by solid state reaction, was found to be isotypic with Ca3(PO4)2, with space group R3c and unit cell parameters a=10.4546(1) Å, c=37.4050(3) Å, V=3540.67(9) Å3, Z=6. The structure parameters refined using the Rietveld method showed that europium shares positions M1, M2 and M3 with calcium, contradicting previously published Mössbauer results. Low temperature luminescence under selective excitation of Eu3+ in Ca9Y1−xEux(PO4)7 and in Ca9Eu(PO4)7 samples was studied, confirming the Eu3+ distribution into these sites. At 10 K, 5D07F0 emission lines of Eu3+ were observed at 578.5, 579.5, 580.1 nm for the M3, M1 and M2 sites, respectively. High temperature X-ray powder diffraction evidenced a second-order phase transition around 573 °C.  相似文献

The compound La2Ca2MnO6(O2) has been synthesized from La2Ca2MnO7 heated at 1123 K under high pressure (4 GPa) with KClO3 as oxygen source. The crystal structure has been refined from X-ray powder data in the space group. The unit-cell parameters are a=5.6335(2) Å and c=17.4879(8) Å. Perpendicular to the c-axis, the structure is built up by the periodic stacking of two close packed [LaO3] layers separated by a layer of composition [Ca2O2] containing (O2)2− peroxide ions. This oxide belongs to the family of compounds formulated as [A2O2−δ][AnBn−1O3n] for n=2 and δ=0. It is the first member of the series where the thickness of the perovskite slab corresponds to one [BO6] (B=Mn) octahedron. The structural relationships with La2Ca2MnO7 are discussed and the magnetic properties show that in both phases manganese is tetravalent.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of the new polymorphic FeIn2S2Se2 compound are presented. The system crystallizes in the α-FeGa2S4 structure at low temperatures, and undergoes a transition to a MgAl2S4-type structure at T>850°C. For this high-temperature phase, low-field magnetization data show a peak at T1=12.5(5) K, below which magnetic irreversibility is observed. High-temperature susceptibility fits indicate the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions with a high degree of frustration. The effective magnetic moment μeff=4.54(3) μB agrees with the expected 3d6 (S=2) configuration for Fe2+. Mössbauer spectroscopy showed that Fe2+ ions are distributed in tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (B) sites with a B:A≈1 ratio. The ac susceptibility data were analyzed according to conventional power law dynamics, giving a freezing temperature Tg=12.5(2) K and critical exponent zν=6.5±1, in agreement with Monte Carlo simulations for 3D short-range Ising spin-glass systems.  相似文献

The title compounds have been prepared in water by reaction of SbF3 with dihydrogen phosphates or arsenates and characterized by single crystal X-ray work, IR, Raman, and Mössbauer spectroscopy. They have identical layer structures. Layers of composition [(SbF)XO4] (X = P, As) were formed by sharing four corners between XO4 tetrahedra and SbFO4 pseudooctahedra. The lengths of the terminal Sb---F bond (with the lone pair in a trans-position) and the Sb---O bonds are 192 and 219 pm, respectively. The stacking of the layers and the interlayer distance depend on the cations and the number of intercalated water molecules. In Na(SbF)AsO4 the Na+ ion is coordinated by only two oxygen atoms within 300 pm. Crystal data: Na(SbF)PO4 · 5H2O, monoclinic, P21/m, A = 656.2(5), B = 654.1(5), C = 867.9(3) pm, β = 92.43(1)°, 889 reflections, 81 parameters, R = 0.044, Rw = 0.046. A novel red emitting phosphor, Eu3+-doped Ca2SnO4, was prepared by the solid-state reaction. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the formation of Ca2SnO4: Eu3+. Field-emission scanning electron-microscopy (FE-SEM) observation indicated a narrow size-distribution of about 500 nm for the particles with spherical shape. Photoluminescence measurements indicated that the phosphor exhibits bright red emission at about 615 nm under UV excitation. The excellent luminescence properties make it possible as a good candidate for plasma display panels (PDP) application. Splitting of the 5D0-7FJ transitions of Ca2SnO4: Eu3+ suggests that the Eu3+ ions occupied two nonequivalent sites in the crystallite. The luminescence lifetime measurement showed a bi-exponential decay, providing other evidence for the existence of two different environments for Eu3+ ions.  相似文献

The distribution of La3+ and Ca2+ over the cation sites in Ca2La8(SiO4)6O2 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Ca2La8(SiO4)6O2 has the apatite structure, and all available evidence indicates that the space group is P63m, thus precluding a completely ordered structure. The 6h lattice sites are occupied by La3+. In contrast, the 4f sites are occupied equally by La3+ and Ca2+ ions. Consideration of the properties of the La3+ and Ca2+ ions suggests that this distribution is thermodynamically favored for this composition. A simple Ising model suggests ordered columns. These would not be precluded by space group P63m, if the correlation between adjacent columns were random.  相似文献
