To any locally finite thick building of type there is naturally associated a commutative algebra of operators. When is constructed from a local field F with local ring , and , then is isomorphic to the convolution algebra of compactly supported bi-K-invariant functions on PGL(n+1,F). We give a proof, valid for any , that the multiplicative functionals on may all be expressed in terms of Hall–Littlewood polynomials. Regarding as a subalgebra of the C *-algebra of bounded operators on the space of square summable functions on the vertex set of , we find the spectrum of the C *-algebra , the closure of . This generalizes results obtained in [3] when n = 1 and in [5] when n = 2. (Received 26 June 2000; in revised form 21 February 2001)  相似文献

Letn>0 be an element of the setN of nonnegative integers, and lets(x)=x 1+...+x n , forx=(x 1, ...,x n ) N n . Adiagonal polynomial order inN n is a bijective polynomialp:N n N (with real coefficients) such that, for allx,y N n ,p(x)<p(y) whenevers(x)<s(y). Two diagonal polynomial orders areequivalent if a relabeling of variables makes them identical. For eachn, Skolem (1937) found a diagonal polynomial order. Later, Morales and Lew (1992) generalized this polynomial order, obtaining a family of 2 n–2 (n>1) inequivalent diagonal polynomial orders. Here we present, for eachn>0, a family of (n – 1)! diagonal polynomial orders, up to equivalence, which contains the Morales and Lew diagonal orders.  相似文献

IfV is a variety of -groups and ifGV then one can study the algebraG V [x] of polynomials overG andx inV. With respect to addition and substitution,G V [x] is a near-ring. Its zero-symmetric part can excellently be used to describe generated ideals. Also, we study maximal left ideals and get a general result on the structure ofG V [V].This study was kindly supported by the Austrian Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung (Projekt Nr. 3479).  相似文献

Arch denotes the category of archimedean ?-groups and ?-homomorphisms. Tych denotes the category of Tychonoff spaces with continuous maps, and α denotes an infinite cardinal or ∞. This work introduces the concept of an αcc-disconnected space and demonstrates that the class of αcc-disconnected spaces forms a covering class in Tych. On the algebraic side, we introduce the concept of an αcc-projectable ?-group and demonstrate that the class of αcc-projectable ?-groups forms a hull class in Arch. In addition, we characterize the αcc-projectable objects in W—the category of Arch-objects with designated weak unit and ?-homomorphisms that preserve the weak unit—and construct the αcc-hull for G in W. Lastly, we apply our results to negatively answer the question of whether every hull class (resp., covering class) is epireflective (resp., monocoreflective) in the category of W-objects with complete ?-homomorphisms (resp., the category of compact Hausdorff spaces with skeletal maps).  相似文献

Just like Lenz–Barlotti classes reflect transitivity properties of certain groups of central collineations in projective planes, Kleinewillingh?fer types reflect transitivity properties of certain groups of central automorphisms in Laguerre planes. In the case of flat Laguerre planes, Polster and Steinke have shown that some of the conceivable types cannot exist, and they gave models for most of the other types. Only few types are still in doubt. Two of them are types IV.A.1 and IV.A.2, whose existence we prove here. In order to construct our models, we make systematic use of the restrictions imposed by the group generated by all central automorphisms guaranteed in type IV. With these models all simple Kleinewillingh?fer types with respect to Laguerre homologies and also with respect to Laguerre homotheties are now accounted for, and the number of open cases of Kleinewillingh?fer types (with respect to Laguerre homologies, Laguerre translations and Laguerre homotheties combined) is reduced to two.  相似文献

Call a Fitting class $\mathfrak{F}$ π-maximal if $\mathfrak{F}$ is (inclusion-)maximal in the class $\mathfrak{C}_\pi$ of all finite π-groups, where π stands for a nonempty set of primes. We establish a π-maximality criterion for a Fitting class $\mathfrak{F}$ of finite π-groups: we prove that a nontrivial Fitting class $\mathfrak{F}$ is π-maximal if and only if there is a prime pπ such that, for every π-group G, the index of the $\mathfrak{F}$ -radical $G_\mathfrak{F}$ in G is equal to 1 or p. This implies Laue’s familiar result on a necessary and sufficient condition of the maximality of an arbitrary Fitting class of finite groups in the class $\mathfrak{C}$ of all finite groups. The π-maximality criterion obtained also gives a confirmation of the negative solution of Skiba’s Problem asking whether a local Fitting class has no inclusion-maximal Fitting subclasses (see Problem 13.50, The Kourovka Notebook: Unsolved Problems in Group Theory, 14th ed., Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Novosibirsk, 1999).  相似文献

In this paper, a new family of quadriphase sequences with period 4(2 n ? 1) is proposed for n = me, where m is an odd integer. The correlation values of the family, their distribution, and the linear spans of the proposed sequences are completely determined under two situations.  相似文献

The article introduces a new class of lattice-ordered groups. An ?-group G is lamron if Min(G)?1 is a Hausdorff topological space, where Min(G)?1 is the space of all minimal prime subgroups of G endowed with the inverse topology. It will be evident that lamron ?-groups are related to ?-groups with stranded primes. In particular, it is shown that for a W-object (G,u), if every value of u contains a unique minimal prime subgroup, then G is a lamron ?-group; such a W-object will be said to have W-stranded primes. A diverse set of examples will be provided in order to distinguish between the notions of lamron, stranded primes, W-stranded primes, complemented, and weakly complemented ?-groups.  相似文献

The varieties of solvable lattice-ordered groups covering the abelian variety were shown independently by Gurchenkov, Reilly, and Darnel to be the Scrimger varieties of ?-groups and the three Medvedev representable covers. In this article, the authors give a parallel characterization of varieties of solvable unital ?-groups which cover the minimal nontrivial variety of boolean unital ?-groups.  相似文献

Within the lattice of varieties of pseudo MV-algebras, the variety ${\mathcal{B}}$ of Boolean algebras is the least nontrivial variety. Komori identified all varieties of (commutative) MV-algebras that cover ${\mathcal{B}}$ . The authors previously identified all solvable varieties of pseudo MV-algebras that cover ${\mathcal{B}}$ . We will show the existence of continuum many nonsolvable varieties of pseudo MV-algebras that cover ${\mathcal{B}}$ , show that periodically primitive u?-groups cannot generate Boolean covers, and show that all noncommutative varieties that are Boolean covers must be Top Boolean.  相似文献

A new family of non-degenerate involutive set-theoretic solutions of the Yang–Baxter equation is constructed. A ring with identity is said to be clean if every element can be written as a sum of a unit and an idempotent. The study of clean rings has been at the forefront of ring theory over the past decade. The theory of partially-ordered groups has a nice and long history and since there are several ways of relating a ring to a (unital) partially-ordered group it became apparent that there ought to be a notion of a clean partially-ordered group. In this article we define a clean unital lattice-ordered group; we state and prove a theorem which characterizes clean unital ?-groups. We mention the relationship of clean unital ?-groups to algebraic K-theory. In the last section of the article we generalize the notion of clean to the non-unital context and investigate this concept within the framework of W-objects, that is, archimedean ?-groups with distinguished weak order unit.  相似文献

We generalize Komori’s characterization of the proper subvarieties of MV-algebras. Namely, within the variety of generalized MV-algebras (GMV-algebras) such that every maximal ideal is normal, we characterize the proper top varieties. In addition, we present equational bases for these top varieties. We show that there are only countably many different proper top varieties and each of them has uncountably many subvarieties. Finally, we study coproducts and we show that the amalgamation property fails for the class of n-perfect GMV-algebras, i.e., GMV-algebras that can be split into n + 1 comparable slices. This work is concerned with an abstract problem in the form of a variational inequality, or equivalently a minimization problem involving a non-differential functional. The problem is inspired by a formulation of the initial–boundary value problem of elastoplasticity. The objective of this work is to revisit the predictor–corrector algorithms that are commonly used in computational applications, and to establish conditions under which these are convergent or, at least, under which they lead to decreasing sequences of the functional for the problem. The focus is on the predictor step, given that the corrector step by definition leads to a decrease in the functional. The predictor step may be formulated as a minimization problem. Attention is given to the tangent predictor, a line search approach, the method of steepest descent, and a Newton-like method. These are all shown to lead to decreasing sequences.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce the I- and I*-convergence and divergence of nets in (?)-groups. We prove some theorems relating different types of convergence/divergence for nets in (?)-group setting, in relation with ideals. We consider both order and (D)-convergence. By using basic properties of order sequences, some fundamental properties, Cauchy-type characterizations and comparison results are derived. We prove that I*-convergence/divergence implies I-convergence/divergence for every ideal, admissible for the set of indexes with respect to which the net involved is directed, and we investigate a class of ideals for which the converse implication holds. Finally we pose some open problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive a new family of eighth-order methods for obtaining simple roots of nonlinear equations by using the weight function method. Each iteration of these methods requires three evaluations of the function and one evaluation of its first derivative, so that their efficiency indices are 1.682, which are optimal according to the Kung and Traub’s conjecture (1974) [2]. Numerical comparisons are made to show the performance of the derived method, as is shown in the numerical section.  相似文献
