A 24′′ (610 mm) access laser-Doppler velocimeter (LDV) system was developed to make simultaneous three-velocity-component measurements in a low speed linear cascade wind tunnel with moving wall simulation. The probe has a 610 mm access length and achieves a measurement spatial resolution of 100 μm by using off-axis optical heads. With the relatively large access length, the LDV probe allows for measurements from the side of a wind tunnel instead of through the tunnel floor, while the high spatial resolution allows for quality near-wall measurements. The probe has been tested in a zero-pressure gradient 2D turbulent boundary layer and the test results agree well with the experimental data measured with different LDV systems and hot-wire anemometery for the boundary layer flows. The energy spectral density was estimated using a slot correlation, and Von Kármán’s model for the energy-spectrum function was used to analyze the measured spectral data to estimate the turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate, which compares favorably with the measured production values in the log-layer region of the turbulent boundary layer. Measurements are presented for the moving endwall boundary layer at the inlet of the linear compressor cascade facility to validate the capability of this LDV for tip leakage flow measurements. These results indicate that the moving endwall reduces velocity gradients in the near-wall region and results in less production of Reynolds stresses and turbulent kinetic energy compared to the stationary endwall case.  相似文献

理解和预测绕椭球的流动对指导飞行器和潜艇等交通工具的设计具有很强的工程意义. 近年来, 针对椭球绕流开展了大量的实验和数值模拟研究. 对有攻角下椭球绕流分离的定性描述和定量研究, 促进了对三维分离的辨识和拓扑研究. 文章对流场特性进行了分析, 介绍了分离对气动力、噪声、尾迹的影响, 以及实验条件对流动的影响. 上述定常流动与非定常机动过程之间存在明显差异, 非定常机动过程不能作为定常或准定常问题处理, 在机动过程中, 分离出现明显延迟, 气动力出现明显变化. 随后介绍了数值模拟在求解绕椭球流动中的进展, 当前求解雷诺平均的N-S方程湍流模式仍然是解决绕椭球大范围分离流动的主要工程方法, 大涡模拟和分离涡模拟等也逐渐得到了广泛应用. 受限于计算能力, 直接数据模拟只能用于较低雷诺数, 在高雷诺数流动中还不适用. 非定常机动过程的数值模拟较定常状态, 与实验结果的差距要大一些. 最后, 介绍了对椭球绕流场转捩的研究进展, 对T-S转捩与横流转捩的机理和辨识已经较为准确, 数值模拟结果与实验结果基本相符, 但对再附转捩的认识还不够清晰, 尤其是迎风面, 因此椭球绕流转捩的研究还需要依靠实验.   相似文献

 A prolate spheroid submerged in water can be heated for decreasing the viscous drag because of a decrease in viscosity with increasing temperature. The heated boundary layer experiment, based on this principle, was carried out in a circulating water channel of NCKU, and the viscous drag of a spheroid, with a five-to-one ratio of length to mid-diameter, was also measured by means of wake surveys. The difference of total-head between wake and undisturbed region was measured by two total-head tubes, and the water speed in the wake area was measured by an electromagnetic flowmeter. The results indicate that the viscous drag of the model decreases with surface heating, and the decrease in viscous drag of the model is 13% when the surface temperature is 17 °C above the ambient water temperature. The velocity gradient in the wake region and the total-heating differential readings between undisturbed and wake region also decrease with surface heating due to the delayed laminar-turbulent transition in the boundary layer. The values of the coefficient of viscous drag obtained without surface overheating are found to be in agreement, for the range of Froude numbers investigated, with the results obtained from previous experiments.  Errors in hot-wire X-probe measurements due to unsteady velocity gradients are investigated by a comparison of hot-wire and laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) measurements. The studied flow case is a laminar boundary layer subjected to high levels of free-stream turbulence, and the hot-wire data shows a local maximum in the wall-normal fluctuation velocity inside the boundary layer. The observed maximum is in agreement with existing hot-wire data, but in conflict with the present LDV measurements as well as existing results from numerical simulations. In this study, intermittent drying behavior of single layer rough rice with a moisture content of between 22 and 24% on the dry basis was simulated by means of a liquid diffusion model based on a prolate spheroid geometry. For this purpose, solution of the liquid diffusion equation was fitted to the experimental data for the drying air temperature 40°C, drying velocity 1.5 ms−1 and tempering periods ranging from 0 to 1 h. In order to make a comparison, solution of the liquid diffusion equation for a finite cylindrical geometry was also fitted to the experimental data. The results show that the liquid diffusion model based on a prolate spheroid geometry explains the drying behavior of rough rice more accurately. The results also show that greater variations occur in diffusion coefficient with increasing tempering time for prolate spheroid geometry which is more realistic geometry for a rough rice grain.

 Experiments have been carried out investigating the effectiveness of steady tangential blowing (inside the separation bubble) to control an axisymmetric separated flow at low speeds. Turbulent boundary separation was induced on a contoured afterbody and the separated shear layer reattached on a narrow cylindrical sting. Measurements made consisted of model surface pressures, mean velocity, turbulent shear stress and kinetic energy profiles using a 2-component LDV system. The results explicitly demonstrate that blowing downstream of the separation location, but within the bubble, can be an effective means of separation control, considering both wall and wake flow reversals. Flow past and within an isolated permeable spheroid directed along its axis of symmetry is studied. The flow velocity field is solved using the Stokes creeping flow equations governing the fluid motion outside the spheroid, and the Darcy equation within the spheroid. Expressions for the hydrodynamic resistance experienced by oblate and prolate spheroids are derived and analyzed. The limiting cases of permeable circular disks and elongated rods are examined. It is shown that the spheroid’s resistance varies significantly with its aspect ratio and permeability, expressed via the Brinkman parameter.  相似文献

This computational study examines the unsteady cross-stream vorticity structures that form when one or more streamwise vortices are immersed in homogeneous and boundary-layer shear flows. A quasi-two-dimensional limit is considered in which the velocity and vorticity fields, while still possessing three nonzero components, have vanishing gradient in the streamwise direction. This idealization is suitable to applications such as streamwise vortices that occur along a ship hull or airplane fuselage and it can be used as an idealized representation of the quasi-streamwise vortices in the near-wall region of a turbulent boundary layer. In this quasi-two-dimensional idealization, the streamwise velocity has no effect on the cross-stream velocity associated with the vortex. However, the vortex acts to modify the cross-stream vorticity component, resulting in regions of the flow with strong deviations in streamwise velocity. This paper examines the complex structures that form as the cross-stream vorticity field is wrapped up by the vortex and the effect of these structures on the streamwise velocity field, first for vortices immersed in homogeneous shear flow and then for vortices immersed in a boundary layer along a flat wall. The total drag force on the surface of a body, which is the sum of the form drag and the skin friction drag in a 2D domain, is numerically evaluated by integrating the energy dissipation rate in the whole domain for an incompressible Stokes fluid. The finite element method is used to calculate both the energy dissipation rate in the whole domain as well as the drag on the boundary of the body. The evaluation of the drag and the energy dissipation rate are post-processing operations which are carried out after the velocity field and the pressure field for the flow over a particular profile have been obtained. The results obtained for the flow over three different but constant area profiles—a circle, an ellipse and a cross-section of a prolate spheroid—with uniform inlet velocity are presented and it is shown that the total drag force times the velocity is equal to the total energy dissipation rate in the entire finite flow domain. Hence, by calculating the energy dissipation rate in the domain with unit velocity specified at the far-field boundary enclosing the domain, the drag force on the boundary of the body can be obtained.  相似文献

Extensive velocity measurements have been taken in a linear turbine cascade with unsteady oncoming wakes. The unsteady wakes were generated by moving cylinders on a squirrel cage device. The Reynolds number was 1.1 × 105, and the Strouhal number varied from o to 7.36. The blade-to-blade flow and the boundary layers on the suction side were measured with a hot-wire anemometer. The results were obtained in ensemble-averaged form so that periodic unsteady processes can be studied. Of particular interest was the transition of the boundary layer. The boundary layer remained laminar in the case without wakes. The passing wakes caused transition, and the beginning of transition moves forward as the wake-passing frequency increases. Unlike in the flat plate study of Liu and Rodi (1991a) the boundary layer state hardly changed with time, although the turbulence level in the boundary layer showed clear periodic response to the passing wakes. The present study treats the hydrodynamic diffraction problem including forward speed of a fully submerged prolate spheroid advancing rectilinearly under a monochromatic wave field in water of infinite depth. The analytic method explicitly satisfies the Kelvin–Neumann boundary conditions. The formulation is based on employing spheroidal harmonics and expressing the ultimate image singularity system as a series of multipoles distributed along the major axis of the spheroid between the two foci. The outlined procedure results in compact closed-form expressions for the six Kirchhoff velocity potentials as well as for the various components of the hydrodynamic loads exerted on the rigid body moving under waves.  相似文献

为阐明表面活性剂水溶液的减阻作用,使用LDV对零压梯度的二维湍流平板边界层中的CTAB 表面活性剂水溶液的湍流特性进行了实验研究. 结果表明:与牛顿流体相比,CTAB水溶液边 界层的粘性底层增厚;主流时均速度分布有被层流化的趋势,对数分布域上移;主流方向速 度湍动强度峰值减小,且远离壁面,在靠近边界层中部,出现第2峰值;垂直于主流方向的 速度湍动强度受到了大幅度抑制,雷诺应力沿着边界层厚度方向几乎为零. 结果说明CTAB 水溶液具有减弱湍流湍动各个成分相关度的作用,从而能够使雷诺应力降低、湍流能量生成 项减小最终降低流体的输送动力.  相似文献

Measurements of bubble and liquid velocities in two-phase flow have been made using a new forward/backward scattering Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) technique. A standard LDV fiber optic probe was used to measure the bubble velocity using direct backscattered light. A novel retro-reflector and lens assembly permitted the same probe to measure the liquid velocity with direct forward-scattered light. Preliminary results show the usefulness of the technique in a duct of narrow thickness dimension.  相似文献

The boundary layer in the vicinity of the zero skin-friction point on the leeward symmetry line of a prolate spheroid placed at an angle of attack is considered. The existence of this flow was established by Cebeci et al. (1980) for an angle of attack =40°. The current study is based on the results of Brown (1985) who described the marginal separation in the symmetry plane for a zero skin-friction point and on the results of Zametaev (1989) who included the spatial extension of Brown's solution but without interaction between the boundary layer and the outer flow. It is found that the three-dimensional boundary-layer equations in the vicinity of the zero skin-friction point are reduced to a single nonlinear partial differential equation of hyperbolic type which governs the longitudinal skin-friction component. Smooth solutions of this equation may be found which contain separation lines as well as double-valued regions. It is likely that the latter regions are related to the tip of the separation line obtained as a result of calculations of the full boundary-layer equations. The influence of interaction is also considered, in which case the flow is governed by a partial integro-differential equation. Suction on a turbulent boundary layer is applied through a narrow strip in order to understand the effects suction can have on the boundary layer development and turbulent structures in the flow. Detailed two-component laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) based measurements have been undertaken in regions close to the suction strip and further downstream. The region close to the strip involves a flow reversal accompanied by a change in sign for the Reynolds shear stress and strong gradients in the flow variables. The mean streamwise velocity after suction remains larger than its corresponding no-suction value. Relative to the no-suction case, the velocity fluctuations first decrease with suction followed by a slow recovery which may involve a slight overshoot. LIF visualizations indicate that compared to the no-suction case, the low-speeds streaks stay closer to the wall and exhibit a smaller amount of spanwise and wall-normal oscillations with suction. The visualization results are consistent with two-point velocity correlation measurements. The streamwise and spanwise correlation measurements indicate that the structures are disrupted or removed from the boundary layer due to suction suggesting that the original boundary layer has been strongly influenced by suction. The results are explained by the development of a new inner layer that forms downstream of the suction strip.  相似文献

The linear stability of a boundary layer flow with a spanwise-periodic nonuniformity in the velocity profile is investigated. This flow can be considered as a model of a streaky structure occurring in the boundary layer at a high freestream turbulence level. It is shown that for a small nonuniformity amplitude symmetric modes similar to Tollmien-Schlichting waves are the most unstable. At higher nonuniformity amplitudes, antisymmetric modes, qualitatively different from Tollmien-Schlichting waves and having a larger phase velocity, are the most amplified. Moscow.
