In this paper, we numerically study a ring of bistable FitzHugh-Nagumo elements coupled in a phase-repulsive way, which are externally driven by a weak periodic signal and noises, and focus on the system’s response. A novel type of spatiotemporal stochastic resonance of antiphase state is uncovered, namely, for an intermediate strength of individual noise, the elements can form an “...-upper-lower-upper-lower-...” antiphase structure along the ring, and the global activation oscillates nearly synchronously with the weak periodic signal. Meanwhile, the system response undergoes a resonant behavior with the intensity of noise. It is shown that the combinative effects of the periodic signal, noise, and coupling are of importance for its appearance. The influences of common and individual noises are also investigated.  相似文献

The dynamic response and stochastic resonance of a kinetic Ising spin system (ISS) subject to the joint action of an external field of weak sinusoidal modulation and stochastic white-nolse are studied by solving the mean-field equation of motion based on Glauber dynamics. The periodically driven stochastic ISS shows that the characteristic stochastic resonance as well as nonequilibrium dynamic phase transition (NDPT) occurs when the frequency ω and amplitude h0 of driving field, the temperature t of the system and noise intensity D are all specifically in accordance with each other in quantity. There exist in the system two typical dynamic phases, referred to as dynamic disordered paramagnetic and ordered ferromagnetic phases respectively, corresponding to a zero- and a unit-dynamic order parameter. The NDPT boundary surface of the system which separates the dynamic paramagnetic phase from the dynamic ferromagnetic phase in the 3D parameter space of ho-t-D is also investigated. An interesting dynamical ferromagnetic phase with an intermediate order parameter of 0.66 is revealed for the first time in the ISS subject to the perturbation of a joint determinant and stochastic field. The intermediate order dynamical ferromagnetic phase is dynamically metastable in nature and owns a peculiar characteristic in its stability as well as the response to external driving field as compared with a fully order dynamic ferromagnetic phase.  相似文献

Existing works on coherence resonance, i.e., the phenomenon of noise-enhanced temporal regularity, focus on excitable dynamical systems such as those described by the FitzHugh-Nagumo equations. We extend the scope of coherence resonance to an important class of dynamical systems: coupled chaotic oscillators. In particular, we show that, when a system of coupled chaotic oscillators is under the influence of noise, the degree of temporal regularity of dynamical variables characterizing the difference among the oscillators can increase and reach a maximum value at some optimal noise level. We present numerical results illustrating the phenomenon and give a physical theory to explain it.  相似文献

We study the effect of finite-size synaptic noise on the response to time-varying stimuli of a detailed neurodynamical model of perceptual-decision making. Specifically, the reaction to a periodic stimulus is analyzed, while controlling the noise level through the number of neurons in the perception module. We find an enhanced response to the dynamical stimulus for intermediate noise, i.e. for an optimal system size. We thus propose a possible functional role of system-size resonance in a complex cognitive task.

We report the effect of doubly stochastic resonance which appears in nonlinear extended systems if the influence of noise is twofold: A multiplicative noise induces bimodality of the mean field of the coupled network and an independent additive noise governs the dynamic behavior in response to small periodic driving. For optimally selected values of the additive noise intensity stochastic resonance is observed, which is manifested by a maximal coherence between the dynamics of the mean field and the periodic input. Numerical simulations of the signal-to-noise ratio and theoretical results from an effective two state model are in good quantitative agreement.  相似文献

Chimera states, a symmetry-breaking spatiotemporal pattern in nonlocally coupled dynamical units, prevail in a variety of systems. However, the interaction structures among oscillators are static in most of studies on chimera state. In this work, we consider a population of agents. Each agent carries a phase oscillator. We assume that agents perform Brownian motions on a ring and interact with each other with a kernel function dependent on the distance between them. When agents are motionless, the model allows for several dynamical states including two different chimera states (the type-I and the type-II chimeras). The movement of agents changes the relative positions among them and produces perpetual noise to impact on the model dynamics. We find that the response of the coupled phase oscillators to the movement of agents depends on both the phase lag α, determining the stabilities of chimera states, and the agent mobility D. For low mobility, the synchronous state transits to the type-I chimera state for α close to π/2 and attracts other initial states otherwise. For intermediate mobility, the coupled oscillators randomly jump among different dynamical states and the jump dynamics depends on α. We investigate the statistical properties in these different dynamical regimes and present the scaling laws between the transient time and the mobility for low mobility and relations between the mean lifetimes of different dynamical states and the mobility for intermediate mobility.  相似文献

A hysteretic Subcritical period-doubling bifurcation is observed in the nonlinear strain dynamics of a magnetostrictive oscillator. The dynamic strain response of the magnetostrictive oscillator was observed with a high-resolution fiber optic interferometer. The effects of low-frequency modulation and band-limited stochastic fluctuations on such a bifurcation are investigated. Power spectral density measurements show that for an optimal value of externally injected noise the signal-to-noise ratio of a low-frequency modulation signal is enhanced by greater than 14 dB, thus indicating the first experimental observation of stochastic resonance near a bistable period-doubling bifurcation.  相似文献

The effect of signal modulating noise in bistable stochastic dynamical systems is studied. The concept of instantaneous steady state is proposed for bistable dynamical systems. By making a dynamical analysis of bistable stochastic systems, we find that global and local effect of signal modulating noise as well as stochastic resonance can occur in bistable dynamical systems on which both a weak sinusoidal signal and noise are forced. The effect is demonstrated by numerical simulation.  相似文献

In this work we will demonstrate the following result: when we have two coupled bistable sub-systems, each driven separately by an external logic input signal, the coupled system yields outputs that can be mapped to specific logic gate operations in a robust manner, in an optimal window of noise. So, though the individual systems receive only one logic input each, due to the interplay of coupling, nonlinearity and noise, they cooperatively respond to give a logic output that is a function of both inputs. Thus the emergent collective response of the system, due to the inherent coupling, in the presence of a noise floor, maps consistently to that of logic outputs of the two inputs, a phenomenon we term coupling induced Logical Stochastic Resonance. Lastly, we demonstrate our idea in proof of principle circuit experiments.  相似文献

The dynamics of coupled excitable FitzHugh Nagumo systems under external noisy driving is studied. Different from most of previous work focusing on the noise-induced regularity in the framework of coherence resonance, here the average frequency (or firing rate) of coupled excitable elements is of much more concern. We find that (i) their frequencies first increase and then decrease with the increase of the coupling, and there is a clear crossover from a rush increase to a smooth increase with the increase of noise strength, and (ii) for nonidentical cases, all elements transit to an identical frequency simultaneously only after a certain coupling strength is achieved. These first-increase-thendecrease non-monotonic frequency behavior and isochronous frequency synchronization are believed to be two basic behaviors in coupled noisy excitable systems.  相似文献

In this Letter, we derive exponent inequalities relating the dynamic exponent z to the steady state exponent Γ for a general class of stochastically driven dynamical systems. We begin by deriving a general exact inequality, relating the response function and the correlation function, from which the various exponent inequalities emanate. We then distinguish between two classes of dynamical systems and obtain different and complementary inequalities relating z and Γ. The consequences of those inequalities for a wide set of dynamical problems, including critical dynamics and Kardar-Parisi-Zhang-like problems, are discussed.  相似文献

Stochastic resonance (SR) in nonlinear systems is a counterintuitive concept in which a weak periodic signal and noise cooperate and give rise to a maximum in the signal-to-noise ratio at the output of the system when the noise is tuned to a certain value. The spatial coupling of a large number of oscillators showing SR may have a constructive effect and leads to the so-called array enhanced stochastic resonance (AESR). We discuss the possible application of SR and AESR concepts to charge density wave (CDW) dynamics in quasi-one-dimensional conductors. We show in a preliminary experiment that the addition of noise can modify the behavior of the CDW in the quasi-one-dimensional conductor K0.30MoO3.  相似文献

We present the results of an extensive numerical study on the phenomenon of stochastic resonance in a bimodal cubic map. Both Gaussian random noise as well as deterministic chaos are used as input to drive the system between the basins. Our main result is that when two identical systems capable of stochastic resonance are coupled, the SNR of either system is enhanced at an optimum coupling strength. Our results may be relevant for the study of stochastic resonance in biological systems.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the effect of a high-frequency driving on the dynamical response of excitable neuronal systems to a subthreshold low-frequency signal by numerical simulation. We demonstrate the occurrence of vibrational resonance in spatially extended neuronal networks. Different network topologies from single small-world networks to modular networks of small-world subnetworks are considered. It is shown that an optimal amplitude of high-frequency driving enhances the response of neuron populations to a low-frequency signal. This effect of vibrational resonance of neuronal systems depends extensively on the network structure and parameters, such as the coupling strength between neurons, network size, and rewiring probability of single small-world networks, as well as the number of links between different subnetworks and the number of subnetworks in the modular networks. All these parameters play a key role in determining the ability of the network to enhance the outreach of the localized subthreshold low-frequency signal. Considering that two-frequency signals are ubiquity in brain dynamics, we expect the presented results could have important implications for the weak signal detection and information propagation across neuronal systems.  相似文献

It is suggested that chaotic dynamical systems characterized by intermittent jumps between two preferred regions of phase space display an enhanced sensitivity to weak periodic forcings through a stochastic resonance-like mechanism. This possibility is illustrated by the study of the residence time distribution in two examples of bimodal chaos: the periodically forced Duffing oscillator and a 1-dimensional map showing intermittent behavior.  相似文献

Experimental evidence of the stochastic resonance phenomenon in an electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) system is reported. The amplitude and phase response of the EPR system operating in bistable conditions are measured for increasing values of the noise intensity. Theoretical predictions based on a simple dynamical model for the relevant system observables are shown to be in good agreement with experimental results.  相似文献

We study the phenomenon of stochastic resonance in a system of coupled neurons that are globally excited by a weak periodic input signal. We make the realistic assumption that the chemical and electrical synapses interact in the same neuronal network, hence constituting a hybrid network. By considering a hybrid coupling scheme embedded in the scale-free topology, we show that the electrical synapses are more efficient than chemical synapses in promoting the best correlation between the weak input signal and the response of the system. We also demonstrate that the average degree of neurons within the hybrid scale-free network significantly influences the optimal amount of noise for the occurrence of stochastic resonance, indicating that there also exists an optimal topology for the amplification of the response to the weak input signal. Lastly, we verify that the presented results are robust to variations of the system size.  相似文献
