The kinetic theory based on the expansion of local field in the guiding center coordinate system, presented by paper[1]–[3], has successfully developed into a theoretical system. The mathematical background and physical explanation of setting up the guiding center coordinate system is expounded in the paper. By using the methods of the guiding center and waveguide coordinate systems respectively, the same dispersion equations for interaction of an axially symmetrical single momentum electron beam with TEmn field in the circular waveguide are rigorously derived. A number of mistakes in paper[4] are indicated as well.  相似文献

A coaxial waveguide partially filled with a dielectric as the slow-wave structure of a dielectric Cherenkov maser is investigated. The dispersion of the fundamental mode of this waveguide is very weak at phase velocities close to the velocity of light, and for this reason a very wide gain bandwidth is possible under conditions of an interaction with a relativistic electron beam. The dispersion equation for an infinitely thin tubular beam in a coaxial waveguide with a dielectric liner adjoining either the outer or inner conducting surface is derived. The gain bandwidth as a function of the parameters of the electron beam and the slow-wave system are investigated on the basis of numerical solution of the dispersion equation, and a comparison with similar dependences for the conventional configuration of a dielectric Cherenkov maser is made. The structural features of the coaxial configuration which enable novel approaches to the problems of matching the microwave signal at the entrance and exit of the system are discussed. Zh. Tekh. Abstract

We consider the propagation of guided waves in a planar waveguide that has a finite-length segment of inhomogeneous media. Except for the inhomogeneous segment, which varies in length from 0 to 160λ, the waveguide is piecewise homogeneous everywhere. The inhomogeneity is modelled by two-dimensional random permittivity fluctuations that are numerically generated from an assumed Gaussian correlation function.

In 2D, the Maxwell equations are solved in the frequency domain for both TE and TM polarization by using modal expansion methods, perfectly matched absorbing boundary layers and the R -matrix transfer matrix algorithm. The guided waves are excited by a Gaussian beam incident on the waveguide aperture. For various waveguide design parameters, numerical results are given for waveguide power loss per unit length of waveguide inhomogeneity. The power loss curves are calculated as the average from numerous realizations of the random permittivity and the coefficient of variation is also given.  相似文献

A solution is obtained for the equations of motion of a particle in the field of a traveling electromagnetic wave propagating between two pairs of metal surfaces of hyperbolic shape. The motion of the particle on excitation of the waveguide by monochromatic and pulsed voltage sources is considered. The possibility of applying a quadrupole waveguide to beam focusing and the separation of particles according to their specific charge and longitudinal velocity is investigated. Zh. Tekh. A study is made of the radiative Pierce instability of a relativistic electron beam in a waveguide stabilized by an infinitely strong magnetic field. Analytical and computational methods are used to determine the growth rate of the instability, as well as the efficiency for conversion of the beam energy into electromagnetic field energy as a function of the beam current, how relativistic the beam is, and the geometry of the system. The linearized Lorentz force, continuity equation, and Maxwell's equations are used to calculate the system dispersion relation for a coaxial configuration of the dielectric Cherenkov maser. The system consists of two coaxial conductors lined with dielectric and an annular relativistic electron beam, which propagates between the two liners. The dispersion relation for the beam and dielectric-lined coaxial waveguide structure and the no-beam system that describes the dependence of the generated frequency on the coaxial waveguide parameters are presented. In this paper, the dispersion relation for a vane-loaded cylindrical waveguide, considering the azimuthal harmonic effects arising from the azimuthal periodicity of the vanes, excited in transverse electric (TE) modes and the gain for a gyro-TWT have been presented. On the basis of the reference [1], excitation of Cherenkov radiation with arbitrary azimuthal mode number by a thin annular relativistic electron beam in a plasma-filled dielectric-lined slow-wave waveguide is studied in this paper. A determinantal dispersion equation is obtained. This general dispersion equation is valid for arbitrary azimuthal mode number, and the growth rate of the wave is derived from it. Finally, the effects of the background plasma density on the dispersion relation, the background plasma density and the electron beam radius on the growth rate of the wave are presented. Formulas and results offerd in this paper are general, and are of particular value of reference to the beam-wave interaction in azimuthally unsymmetrical slow-wave waveguide.This work is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China and 863 Project.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper presents a derivation of a system of closed equations for joint moments of the amplitude and inverse power of a wave beam propagating in a regularly inhomogeneous dissipative random medium. The radiation transfer in the medium is characterized by non-conservation of the total radiation energy flux and by the existence of power fluctuations. The statistics of the wave beam power fluctuations have been studied. Information on the power statistical characteristics is applied to close the system of equations for joint moments. For task parameters which are not very strict (an effective radius of the wave beam should be considerably less than the outer scale of the turbulence) a system of independent equations for arbitrary joint moments has been obtained. The equations for the first two lower joint moments of the beam intensity and inverse power have been solved analytically. With the solutions obtained the effective wave beam parameters were calculated, i.e. the beam mean displacement, effective broadening and tremble variance (the beam wandering variance) for the propagation of radiation in the refractive channel of an absorbing turbulent medium. Radically new characteristics of the behaviour of the effective parameters in random absorbing and transparent media have been revealed.  相似文献

We present a general method for studying the evolution of a beam propagating in a nonlinear optical waveguide. In the framework of a variational method, and within the Ritz optimization technique, the governing equations describing the evolution of the basic parameters of the beam are reduced to those of a Hamiltonian dynamical system. As a particular case the method yields the guided modes of the device (corresponding to fixed points of the dynamical system). As an example the method is applied to the full two-dimensional analysis of the guided modes of a nonlinear slab directional coupler and of a channel waveguide; numerical experiments are used to validate our approach.  相似文献

It is shown that a cylindrical metallic waveguide fully filled with a magnetoactive plasma can propagate coupled ordinarily polarized bulk and extraordinarily polarized surface waves along its azimuthal direction. Interaction between these waves is studied in the case when an external magnetic field has axial and azimuthal components. For the case of a regular profile, a practically convenient analytical expression for a correction to the eigenfrequency of the waves that is due to the external azimuthal magnetic field is derived.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study the dynamic behavior and modal analysis of a micro-optomechatronic device with primary applications to force sensing and optical attenuation/coupling. The system consists of two initially aligned micro-cantilevers with a narrow gap between them. The light beam enters to the first waveguide and, after propagation along it, couples to second waveguide through the mentioned narrow gap. The externally static or dynamic applied force on the first micro-cantilever deflects it and results in reduced optical coupling between the two waveguides. Changes in this factor are measured to give the properties of the applied force.  相似文献

We report on the generation of beams with azimuthal polarization using resonant grating waveguide structures (GWSs) inside an Yb:YAG thin-disk laser (TDL) oscillator. Two different GWS concepts were used to select the polarization of the emitted beam. The first uses the resonant reflection principle, and the second is based on the leaky-mode approach already reported in our previous work. Up to 93 W and 103 W of output power were extracted from a TDL with an optical efficiency, η(oo), of 36.2% and 40.1% using the first and the second approaches, respectively. In both cases, a pure azimuthal polarization and a beam quality factor, M2, of about 2.2 were measured. The design, fabrication, and different experimental results, as well as the laser performances for both GWSs, are discussed in the present Letter.  相似文献

Abstract

Fields due to an electromagnetic wave propagating in a long irregular two-dimensional waveguide are calculated efficiently, using the method of left-right splitting to solve the coupled integral equations. Results are compared with those obtained from independent ray-theoretic calculations and give very close agreement. The approach has previously been applied to rough surfaces at low angles of incidence; here it is found to converge rapidly for surface slopes of 30°, and after a few iterations for incident angles up to 60° from grazing.  相似文献

This paper addresses the formulae and numerical issues related to the possibility that fast wave may be grown when a relativistic electron beam through an ion channel in a cylindrical metal waveguide.To derive the dispersion equations of the beam-wave interaction,it solves relativistic Lorentz equation and Maxwell’s equations for appropriate boundary conditions.It has been found in this waveguide structure that the TM 0m modes are the rational operating modes of coupling between the electromagnetic modes and the betatron modes.The interaction of the dispersion curves of the electromagnetic TM 0m modes and the upper betatron modes is studied.The growth rates of the wave are obtained,and the effects of the beam radius,the beam energy,the plasma frequency,and the beam plasma frequency on the wave growth rate are numerically calculated and discussed.  相似文献

Results are reported of a theoretical and experimental investigation of a quasi-optical mode converter for the transformation of whispering gallery mode gyrotron output into a linearly polarized Gaussian like beam. The mode converter consists of a helically cut waveguide launcher, similar to that originally proposed by Vlasovet al, followed by a focusing mirror. Theoretical results using aperture field methods indicate that the length of the waveguide launcher is of critical importance in providing a confined radiation pattern. Experimental results on the radiation pattern were obtained for several launcher lengths using a 0.6 MW, 149 GHz pulsed gyrotron operating in the TE16,2 mode. Radiation pattern results for the optimum launcher length agree well with theoretical calculations using the Stratton-Chu aperture radiation theory for unperturbed waveguide modes. A mirror focusing in the azimuthal direction was designed by a geometrical optics approach to focus the radiation coming from the launcher. Good focusing with 91.4% efficiency (power in the focused beam divided by gyrotron power) was found experimentally using the combined launcher and mirror with the pulsed gyrotron. These results indicate that quasi-optical antennas are useful for transforming high order, high frequency gyrotron modes into directed beams in free space.  相似文献

A study is made of the channeling of atoms in a narrowing hollow waveguide carrying on its inner surface a surface wave with positive detuning for the absorption line of an atom. The inelastic reflection of atoms from the surface light wave and the convergent geometry of the waveguide make it possible to decrease the temperature and increase the phase density of an ensemble of atoms introduced continuously into the hollow convergent waveguide from a magnetooptic trap, by a factor of 105. It is suggested that such a waveguide be used to study collective phenomena in quantum-mechanical systems with a high density (Bose-Einstein condensate) and as a high-luminosity coherent source of cold atoms. Abstract

The modified ray-optics method is used to analyze the coupling efficiency from a Gaussian beam to a rectangular multimode embedded strip waveguide. It is convenient for analyzing the case of a simple waveguide structure because of reduced computation time. The conditions for determining which optical rays can be coupled into the waveguide to become the waveguiding modes, as well as the effective receiving area of the waveguide, are derived in this work. The data obtained by this method are compared with those calculated by the well-known overlap integral theorem and Marcatili's models for investigating the validity of the modified ray-optics method.  相似文献
