In 1956, Rankin described which polynomials in the derivatives of modular forms are again modular forms, and in 1977, H Cohen defined for eachn ≥ 0 a bilinear operation which assigns to two modular formsf andg of weightk andl a modular form [f, g]n of weightk +l + 2n. In the present paper we study these “Rankin-Cohen brackets” from two points of view. On the one hand we give various explanations of their modularity and various algebraic relations among them by relating the modular form theory to the theories of theta series, of Jacobi forms, and of pseudodifferential operators. In a different direction, we study the abstract algebraic structure (“RC algebra”) consisting of a graded vector space together with a collection of bilinear operations [,]n of degree + 2n satisfying all of the axioms of the Rankin-Cohen brackets. Under certain hypotheses, these turn out to be equivalent to commutative graded algebras together with a derivationS of degree 2 and an element Φ of degree 4, up to the equivalence relation (∂,Φ) ~ (∂ - ϕE, Φ - ϕ2 + ∂(ϕ)) where ϕ is an element of degree 2 andE is the Fuler operator (= multiplication by the degree). We investigate the six quaternionic theta constants introduced by Freitag and Hermann. More precisely we investigate their restrictions to the Hermitian resp. Siegel half-space of degree 2. It turns out that these theta constants generate the graded ring of symmetric Hermitian modular forms for the principal congruence subgroup of level 1 + i over the Gaussian number field resp. of Siegel modular forms for the principal congruence subgroup of level 2 and even weight. As an application we obtain a simple construction of Igusa’s Siegel modular form of degree 2 and weight 30 with respect to the non-trivial character.  相似文献

We show that spaces of vector–valued singular modular forms for principal congruence subgroups of the symplectic group Sp(n,ℤ) of integral weight are generated by suitable finite dimensional families of Siegel theta series. We improve the existing upper bound for the quantity |∑ nx a(n 2)|, where a(n 2) is the n 2th Hecke eigenvalue of a normalized holomorphic cusp form (Hecke eigenform) of the full modular group SL(2, ℤ), whenever the weight of the original holomorphic cusp form (Hecke eigenform) lies in a certain range. In this paper, we consider the following autonomous system of differential equations: x = Ax f(x,θ), θ = ω, where θ∈Rm, ω = (ω1,…,ωm) ∈ Rm, x ∈ Rn, A ∈ Rn×n is a constant matrix and is hyperbolic, f is a C∞ function in both variables and 2π-periodic in each component of the vector e which satisfies f = O(||x||2) as x → 0. We study the normal form of this system and prove that under some proper conditions this system can be transformed to an autonomous system: x = Ax g(x), θ = ω. Additionally, the proof of this paper naturally implies the extension of Chen's theory in the quasi-periodic case.  相似文献

A subgroup D of GL (n, ℝ) is said to be admissible if the semidirect product of D and ℝ n , considered as a subgroup of the affine group on ℝ n , admits wavelets ψ ∈ L2(ℝ n ) satisfying a generalization of the Calderón reproducing, formula. This article provides a nearly complete characterization of the admissible subgroups D. More precisely, if D is admissible, then the stability subgroup Dx for the transpose action of D on ℝ n must be compact for a. e. x. ∈ ℝ n ; moreover, if Δ is the modular function of D, there must exist an a ∈ D such that |det a| ≠ Δ(a). Conversely, if the last condition holds and for a. e. x ∈ ℝ n there exists an ε > 0 for which the ε-stabilizer D x ε is compact, then D is admissible. Consider a sequence of estimators [^(q)] n\hat \theta _n which converges almost surely to θ 0 as the sample size n tends to infinity. Under weak smoothness conditions, we identify the asymptotic limit of the last time [^(q)] n\hat \theta _n is further than ɛ away from θ 0 when ɛ → 0+. These limits lead to the construction of sequentially fixed width confidence regions for which we find analytic approximations. The smoothness conditions we impose is that [^(q)] n\hat \theta _n is to be close to a Hadamard-differentiable functional of the empirical distribution, an assumption valid for a large class of widely used statistical estimators. Similar results were derived in Hjort and Fenstad (1992) for the case of Euclidean parameter spaces; part of the present contribution is to lift these results to situations involving parameter functionals. The apparatus we develop is also used to derive appropriate limit distributions of other quantities related to the far tail of an almost surely convergent sequence of estimators, like the number of times the estimator is more than ɛ away from its target. We illustrate our results by giving a new sequential simultaneous confidence set for the cumulative hazard function based on the Nelson-Aalen estimator and investigate a problem in stochastic programming related to computational complexity.  相似文献

In this paperk-harmonic polynomials in ℝ n , i.e. polynomials satisfying the Laplace equation with respect tok variables: ∂2/∂x 1 2 +...+∂2/∂x k 2 F=0 are considered; here 1≤kn andn≥2. J.-P. Serre proved that the congruences for elliptic modular forms mod p m descend to those of weights mod p m−1(p−1). Later, this result was generalized by T. Ichikawa to the case of Siegel modular forms. We explicitly solve the equation Ax n − By n  = ±1 and, along the way, we obtain new results for a collection of equations Ax n − By n  = z m with m ∈ {3, n}, where x, y, z, A, B, and n are unknown nonzero integers such that n ≥ 3, AB = p α q β with nonnegative integers α and β and with primes 2 ≤ p < q < 30. The proofs depend on a combination of several powerful methods, including the modular approach, recent lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms, somewhat involved local considerations, and computational techniques for solving Thue equations of low degree.  相似文献

In 1973, Shimura (Ann. Math. (2) 97:440–481, 1973) introduced a family of correspondences between modular forms of half-integral weight and modular forms of even integral weight. Earlier, in unpublished work, Selberg explicitly computed a simple case of this correspondence pertaining to those half-integral weight forms which are products of Jacobi’s theta function and level one Hecke eigenforms. Cipra (J. Number Theory 32(1):58–64, 1989) generalized Selberg’s work to cover the Shimura lifts where the Jacobi theta function may be replaced by theta functions attached to Dirichlet characters of prime power modulus, and where the level one Hecke eigenforms are replaced by more generic newforms. Here we generalize Cipra’s results further to cover theta functions of arbitrary Dirichlet characters multiplied by Hecke eigenforms.   相似文献

Using the theta correspondence we construct liftings from the cohomology with compact supports of locally symmetric spaces associated to O(p, q) (resp. U(p, q)) of degreenq (resp. Hodge typenq, nq) to the space of classical holomorphic Siegel modular forms of weight (p +q)/2 and genusn (resp. holomorphic hermitian modular forms of weightp +q and genusn). It is important to note that the cohomology with compact supports contains the cuspidal harmonic forms by Borel [3]. We can express the Fourier coefficients of the lift of η in terms of periods of η over certain totally geodesic cycles—generalizing Shintani’s solution [21] of a conjecture of Shimura. We then choose η to be the Poincaré dual of a (finite) cycle and obtain a collection of formulas analogous to those of Hirzebruch-Zagier [8]. In our previous work we constructed the above lifting but we were unable to prove that it took values in theholomorphic forms. Moreover, we were unable to compute the indefinite Fourier coefficients of a lifted class. By Koecher’s Theorem we may now conclude that all such coefficients are zero.
