Exciton diffusion has been studied in 5-25-nm-thick films of zinc tetra-(p-octylphenyl)-porphyrin (ZnTOPP) spin-coated onto quartz slides by intentional doping with quenchers using steady-state as well as time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. The fluorescence spectra of the films are very similar to those of solutions, indicating emission from localized exciton states. From the dependence of the fluorescence quenching on the quencher concentration and fluorescence lifetime measurements, the exciton diffusion can be concluded to be quasi-one-dimensional with an exciton diffusion length of 9 +/- 3 nm and an intrastack energy-transfer rate constant of 10(11)-10(12) s(-1). From fluorescence anisotropy decay measurements, we conclude that neighboring stacks aggregate in a herringbone structure, forming ordered domains that are randomly oriented in the substrate plane. These measurements indicate an interstack energy-transfer rate constant of (7 +/- 2) x 10(10) s(-1).  相似文献

[reaction: see text] Dinitrenes 4 and 5 both can form quinonoidal structures by conjugative bond formation. However, ESR spectroscopy detects a thermally populated, excited-state, triplet quinonoidal structure only for 4, with a zero-field splitting of |D/hc| = 0.0822 cm(-)(1), |E/hc| congruent with 0.0 cm(-)(1). The tendency to maintain aromaticity in the additional ring of 5 favors a dinitrene structure (with one less formal pi-bond) over a quinonoidal structure. The thermally populated quintet state of 5 has a zero-field splitting of |D/hc| = 0.287 cm(-)(1), |E/hc| 相似文献

Abstract. –Fluorescence detected magnetic resonance (FDMR) and fluorimetry have been used to study chlorophyll-water complexes at T = 4.2 K. By combining these methods, zero-field splitting (ZFS)-parameters can be assigned to the triplet state of the various species. It is found that these parameters decrease upon aggregation and/or complexation. These results can be rationalized by using a simple free-electron model for chlorophyll including excitonic interaction. Evidence is presented favouring a structure recently proposed by Shipman and Katz for a chlorophyll-dimer involving hydrogen-bonded water, present in non-polar solutions at low temperature with spectral properties similar to those of chlorophyll in vivo.  相似文献

We report on the triplet spectra and dynamics in two types of oligomeric films deposited by two different techniques: thermal evaporation and spin coating. The different molecular arrangement in both films is manifested in a red shift of the absorption, PL, and T1-Tn absorption spectra of the sublimated film relative to the spin-coated one. Triplet recombination dynamics studied with steady-state photoinduced absorption (PA) spectroscopy follow a dispersive bimolecular recombination model away from the trap filling regime. We obtained values for the triplet bimolecular recombination ratio (beta) of 3.4 x 10 (-14) and 1.1 x 10 (-15) cm3 s (-1) for evaporated and spin-coated film, respectively, the difference being attributed to diverse molecular arrangement in both films.  相似文献

Photolysis (λ > 543 nm) of 3-thienyldiazomethane (1), matrix isolated in Ar or N(2) at 10 K, yields triplet 3-thienylcarbene (13) and α-thial-methylenecyclopropene (9). Carbene 13 was characterized by IR, UV/vis, and EPR spectroscopy. The conformational isomers of 3-thienylcarbene (s-E and s-Z) exhibit an unusually large difference in zero-field splitting parameters in the triplet EPR spectrum (|D/hc| = 0.508 cm(-1), |E/hc| = 0.0554 cm(-1); |D/hc| = 0.579 cm(-1), |E/hc| = 0.0315 cm(-1)). Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) calculations reveal substantially differing spin densities in the 3-thienyl ring at the positions adjacent to the carbene center, which is one factor contributing to the large difference in D values. NBO calculations also reveal a stabilizing interaction between the sp orbital of the carbene carbon in the s-Z rotamer of 13 and the antibonding σ orbital between sulfur and the neighboring carbon-an interaction that is not observed in the s-E rotamer of 13. In contrast to the EPR spectra, the electronic absorption spectra of the rotamers of triplet 3-thienylcarbene (13) are indistinguishable under our experimental conditions. The carbene exhibits a weak electronic absorption in the visible spectrum (λ(max) = 467 nm) that is characteristic of triplet arylcarbenes. Although studies of 2-thienyldiazomethane (2), 3-furyldiazomethane (3), or 2-furyldiazomethane (4) provided further insight into the photochemical interconversions among C(5)H(4)S or C(5)H(4)O isomers, these studies did not lead to the spectroscopic detection of the corresponding triplet carbenes (2-thienylcarbene (11), 3-furylcarbene (23), or 2-furylcarbene (22), respectively).  相似文献

We studied the generation and decay dynamics of triplet excitons in tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) thin films by using transient absorption spectroscopy. Absorption spectra of both singlet and triplet excitons in the film were identified by comparison with transient absorption spectra of the ligand molecule (8-hydroxyquinoline) itself and the excited triplet state in solution previously reported. By measuring the excitation light intensity dependence of the absorption, we found that exciton annihilation dominated under high-density excitation conditions. Annihilation rate constants were estimated to be gammaSS = (6 +/- 3) x 10(-11) cm3 s(-1) for single excitons and gammaTT = (4 +/- 2) x 10(-13) cm3 s(-1) for triplet excitons. From detailed analysis of the light intensity dependence of the quantum yield of triplet excitons under high-density conditions, triplet excitons were mainly generated through fission from highly excited singlet states populated by singlet-singlet exciton annihilation. We estimated that 30% of the highly excited states underwent fission.  相似文献

The high resolution X-band electron para magnetic resonance (EPR) spectrum of quintet pyridyl-2,6-dinitrene was recorded after the photolysis of 4-amino-2,6-diazido-3,5-dichloropyridine in solid argon matrix at 15 K. This spectrum represents a new type of powder EPR spectra that are characteristic for quintet spin states with zero-field splitting parameters |E(q)/D(q)| approximately 1/4. All EPR lines of the quintet dinitrene were unambiguously assigned based on the eigenfield calculations of the Zeeman energy levels and angular dependencies of resonance magnetic fields. Owing to the high resolution of the experimental EPR spectrum, zero-field splitting parameters of the quintet dinitrene were determined with a high accuracy: D(q)=0.2100+/-0.0005 cm(-1) and E(q)=-0.0560+/-0.0002 cm(-1). These parameters provide correct information regarding the molecular angle Theta and distance r between two triplet sites in the molecule of quintet dinitrene. The measured molecular angle Theta=114.2 degrees+/-0.2 degrees is in excellent agreement with results of the density functional theory calculations. The analysis of the magnetic parameters shows that the spin population on the nitrene units in the quintet dinitrene is greater than that on the nitrene unit in the triplet nitrene.  相似文献

Tetraphenylporphine zinc(II) (ZnTPP) was found to be adsorbed from its CH2Cl2 solution into a Nafion (Nf) film. The characteristics of the adsorption of ZnTPP into the Nf film were studied using a visible absorption spectroscopic technique. The initial rate (v0, mol cm(-2) s(-1)) for uptake of ZnTPP was saturated with increasing ZnTPP concentration (c0, M) in the solution. This kinetic profile was analyzed in terms of a Michaelis-Menten model considering preequilibrium of ZnTPP adsorption between the solution and the outer layer of the Nf film, followed by diffusion to an inner bulk region, giving a maximum diffusion reflux of v(max) = (2.2 +/- 0.2) x 10(-13) mol cm(-2) s(-1). This is different from the kinetics for the Nf/phthalocyanine zinc(II) (ZnPc) film, which gives a linear plot of v(0) vs c(0). This can be explained by the relatively slow diffusion of ZnTPP in the film compared to that of ZnPc because of steric factors: ZnTPP contains bulky tetraphenyl moieties attached perpendicular to a porphyrin ring, whereas ZnPc has higher planarity. The isotherm for the adsorption of ZnTPP into the Nf film was analyzed using a Langmuir isotherm equation, yielding an equilibrium constant of (3.6 +/- 1.1) x 10(6) M(-1) and a saturated amount of adsorbed ZnTPP of (1.8 +/- 0.1) x 10(-9) mol cm(-2), suggesting monolayer adsorption of ZnTPP on the hydrophobic polymer network interfacial with hydrophilic transport channels without significant intermolecular overlap. This is in contrast to the multilayer adsorption mode suggested for the ZnPc adsorption. The tetraphenyl moieties could prevent the stacking of ZnTPP for multilayer adsorption.  相似文献

Fluorescence-detected magnetic resonance of triplets in zero magnetic field (FDMR), fluorescence fading (FF) due to triplet-formation, both at 4.2 K, and prompt fluorescence decay kinetics (FDK) at room temperature have been measured for free pheophorbide- a (f-Pheo) and bound (b-Pheo) to a synthetic polypeptide (L-L ys -L-A la -L-A la )n, dissolved in dimethylformamide (DMF). Fluorescence decay kinetics measurements of f-Pheo in DMF yielded 1-5 ns lifetimes, for b-Pheo in DMF a ~ 50 ps decay-component was found emitting at 730–750 nm. Zero-field splitting parameters |D| and |E| of the lowest triplet state T1 were determined from FDMR spectra as (337 and 24) 10-4 cm-1 for f-Pheo and (359 and 25) 10-4 cm-1 for b-Pheo, both in DMF. Decay rate constants of the three spin levels of T1 of b-Pheo ( K x= 1200 50 s-1, k y= 440 25 s-1, k z= 80 5 s-1) and relative steady-state populations (Nx= 28 2%, Ny= 47 2%, Nz= 26 2%) determined from FF curves predict a fluorescence decrease at the D–E and D + E FDMR transitions, whereas experimentally a fluorescence increase is observed. The FDMR sign-inversion results from singlet-singlet energy transfer from b-Pheo monomers to their aggregates, followed by fast intersystem crossing to T1. These results indicate that aggregates are formed by two or more b-Pheo molecules at different positions on the folded polypeptide chain. This situation resembles that in chlorophyll-proteins, containing low-lying traps, resulting from interaction of chromophores with other chromophores and with the protein environment.  相似文献

A family of distorted heterometallic cubanes, [Mn (III) 3Ni (II)(hmp) 3O(N 3) 3(O 2CR) 3], where O 2CR (-) is benzoate ( 1), 3-phenylpropionate ( 2), 1-adamantanecarboxylate ( 3), or acetate ( 4) and hmp (-) is the anion of 2-pyridinemethanol, was synthesized and structurally as well as magnetically characterized. These complexes have a distorted-cubane core structure similar to that found in the S = 9/2 Mn 4 cubane family of complexes. Complexes 1, 3, and 4 crystallize in rhombohedral, hexagonal, and cubic space groups, respectively, and have C 3 molecular symmetry, while complex 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Cc with local C 1 symmetry. Magnetic susceptibility and magnetization hysteresis measurements and high-frequency electron paramagnetic resonance (HFEPR) spectroscopy established that complexes 1-4 have S = 5 spin ground states with axial zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameters ( D) ranging from -0.20 to -0.33 cm (-1). Magnetization versus direct-current field sweeps below 1.1 K revealed hysteresis loops with magnetization relaxation, definitely indicating that complexes 1-4 are single-molecule magnets that exhibit quantum tunneling of magnetization (QTM) through an anisotropy barrier. Complex 2 exhibits the smallest coercive field and fastest magnetization tunneling rate, suggesting a significant rhombic ZFS parameter ( E), as expected from the low C 1 symmetry. This was confirmed by HFEPR spectroscopy studies on single crystals that gave the following parameter values for complex 2: gz = 1.98, gx = gy = 1.95, D = -0.17 cm (-1), B 4 (0) = -6.68 x 10 (-5) cm (-1), E = 6.68 x 10 (-3) cm (-1), and B 4 (2) = -1.00 x 10 (-4) cm (-1). Single-crystal HFEPR data for complex 1 gave g z = 2.02, gx = gy = 1.95, D = -0.23 cm (-1), and B 4 (0) = -5.68 x 10 (-5) cm (-1), in keeping with the C 3 site symmetry of this Mn 3Ni complex. The combined results highlight the importance of spin-parity effects and molecular symmetry, which determine the QTM rates.  相似文献

A multitechnique approach has allowed the first experimental determination of single-ion anisotropies in a large iron(III)-oxo cluster, namely [NaFe6(OCH3)12(pmdbm)6ClO4 (1) in which Hpmdbm = 1,3-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-propanedione. High-frequency EPR (HF-EPR). bulk susceptibility measurements, and high-field cantilever torque magnetometry (HF-CTM) have been applied to iron-doped samples of an isomorphous hexagallium(III) cluster [NaGa6(OCH3)12-(pmdbm)6]ClO4, whose synthesis and X-ray structure are also presented. HF-EPR at 240 GHz and susceptibility data have shown that the iron(III) ions have a hard-axis type anisotropy with DFe = 0.43(1) cm(-1) and EFe = 0.066(3) cm(-1) in the zero-field splitting (ZFS) Hamiltonian H = DFe[S2(z) - S(S + 1)/3] + Fe[S2(x) - S2(y)]. HF-CTM at 0.4 K has then been used to establish the orientation of the ZFS tensors with respect to the unique molecular axis of the cluster, Z. The hard magnetic axes of the iron(III) ions are found to be almost perpendicular to Z, so that the anisotropic components projected onto Z are negative, DFe(ZZ)= -0.164(4) cm(-1). Due to the dominant antiferromagnetic coupling, a negative DFe(ZZ) value determines a hard-axis molecular anisotropy in 1, as experimentally observed. By adding point-dipolar interactions between iron(III) spins, the calculated ZFS parameter of the triplet state, D1 = 4.70(9) cm(-1), is in excellent agreement with that determined by inelastic neutron scattering experiments at 2 K, D1 = 4.57(2) cm(-1). Iron-doped samples of a structurally related compound, the dimer [Ga2(OCH3)2(dbm)4] (Hdbm = dibenzoylmethane), have also been investigated by HF-EPR at 525 GHz. The single-ion anisotropy is of the hard-axis type as well, but the DFe parameter is significantly larger [DFe = 0.770(3) cm(-1). EFe = 0.090(3) cm(-1)]. We conclude that, although the ZFS tensors depend very unpredictably on the coordination environment of the metal ions, single-ion terms can contribute significantly to the magnetic anisotropy of iron(III)-oxo clusters, which are currently investigated as single-molecule magnets.  相似文献

2,3,5,6-Tetrafluorophenylnitren-4-yl (5) was synthesized in argon at 4 K via the photolysis of 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-iodo-phenyl azide (6). Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy allows us to observe triradical 5 in its quartet state with the zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameters |D/hc| = 0.285 and |E/hc| = 0.043 cm-1. The quartet ground state of 5 is in accordance with our previous infrared (IR) spectroscopic investigation, in which the high-spin quartet state, but no low-spin doublet state, of 5 was observed in solid argon at 4 K [Wenk, H. H.; Sander, W. Angew. Chem., Int. Ed. 2002, 41, 2742-2745]. Because annealing of the matrix at temperatures of >10 K results in the rapid recombination of the highly reactive species 5 with I atoms produced during the photolysis of 6, the Curie-Weiss behavior could not be investigated. However, the absence of low-spin states in the IR investigations, as well as the results of ab initio and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, strongly suggest that 5 has a robust quartet ground state that is best-described as an unprecedented sigma,sigma,pi-triradical. The ZFS of 5 has been successfully reproduced by DFT calculations, which furthermore provide qualitative insight into the origin of the observed EPR parameters.  相似文献

The ESR spectrum of 5-methylhexa-1,2,4-triene-1,3-diyl (1) was recorded in an argon matrix at 15 K. The derived zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameters (D = 0.5054 ± 0.0006 cm(-1) and E = 0.0045 ± 0.0002 cm(-1)) fall between those determined previously for propargylene (2) and vinylcarbene (3). DFT and ab initio (CAS and MRCI) quantum-chemical calculations of the ZFS parameters of 1, 2, and 3 were performed. These calculations indicate that multireference methods are needed to successfully predict ZFS parameters of delocalized carbenes/biradicals such as 1-3. The calculated singly occupied MOs and spin density distributions show that the spin is more delocalized in 1 than in 2 and 3, indicating that 1 is a "hybrid" of the constituent ethynyl- and vinylcarbenes, 2 and 3, respectively. The dominant contribution to the D-value in 1 and 2 is found to result from spin-spin interactions on the C atoms of the propylidene moiety, which is strongly affected by spin polarization. Accurate values for the D-parameter are also predicted for other types of delocalized triplet carbenes such as HC(5)H and HCCN.  相似文献

W-Band EPR spectra of [[HC(CMeNAr)(2)]Mn](2) (Ar = 2,6-(i)Pr(2)C(6)H(3)) have been measured at different temperatures. The spectra show a behavior which is typical for an antiferromagnetically coupled dimer with excited states populating upon increasing temperature. By following the intensity variation of the different features of the spectra with temperature, we attributed different groups of resonances to the S = 1, 2, and 3 states of the dimer. Their corresponding spin Hamiltonian parameters were derived from simulations. The zero-field-splitting parameters measured in this way were D(S=1) = 1.57 cm(-1) and E(S=1) = 0.064 cm(-1), D(S=2) = 0.266 cm(-1) and E(S=2) = 0.0045 cm(-1), and D(S=3) = 0.075 cm(-1) and E(S=3) = 0. On the basis of the molecular structure of the system, we could estimate that zero-field splitting (ZFS) is the result of anisotropic exchange and single-ion anisotropic contributions of similar magnitude (|D| approximately 0.2 cm(-1)). These results allow a deeper insight into the electronic structure of the Mn(I) centers in low-coordination environments, further supporting the electronic structure of Mn(I) to be 4s(1)3d(5), as previously indicated by DFT calculations.  相似文献

Preparation and full characterization of the main-group diradical *NSNSC-CNSSN*, 8, the MF6- salt (As, Sb) of radical cation +NSNSC-CNSSN*, 8*+, and the AsF6- salt of the dication +NSNSC-CNSSN+, 82+, are presented. 8, a=6.717 (4), b=11.701(2), c=8.269(3) A, alpha=gamma=90, beta=106.69(3) degrees, monoclinic, space group P21/n, Z=4, T=203 K; 8SbF6, a=6.523(2), b=7.780(2), c=12.012(4) A, alpha=91.994(4), beta=96.716(4), gamma=09.177(4) degrees, triclinic, space group P, Z=2, T=198 K; 8[AsF6]2, a=12.7919(14), b=9.5760(11), c=18.532(2) A, alpha=gamma=90, beta=104.034(2) degrees, monoclinic, space group Pn, Z=6, T=198 K. Preparation of 8MF6 was carried out via a reduction of [CNSNS]2[MF6]2 (M=As, Sb) with either ferrocene or a SbPh3-NBu4Cl mixture. In the solid state, diamagnetic 8SbF6 contains centrosymmetric dimers [8*+]2 linked via two-electron four-centered pi*-pi* interactions with a thermally excited triplet state as detected by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). This is the first observation of a triplet excited state for a 7pi 1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolyl radical dimer. The singlet-triplet gap of the [-CNSSN*]2 radical pair was -1800+/-100 cm(-1) (-22+/-1 kJ/mol) with the ZFS components |D|=0.0267(6) cm(-1) and |E|=0.0012(1) cm(-1), corresponding to an in situ dimerization energy of ca. -11 kJ/mol. Cyclic voltammetry measurements of 8[AsF6]2 showed two reversible waves associated with a stepwise reduction of the two isomeric rings [E1/2 (+2/+1)=1.03 V; E1/2 (+1/0)=0.47 V, respectively]. 8MF6 (M=As, Sb) was further reduced to afford the mixed main-group diradical 8, containing two isomeric radical rings. In solution, 8 is thermodynamically unstable with respect to *NSSNC-CNSSN*, but is isolable in the solid state because of its low solubility in SO2. Likewise, 8SbF6, 8 is dimeric, with pi*-pi* interactions between different isomeric rings, and consequently diamagnetic; however, a slight increase in paramagnetism was observed upon grinding [from C=6.5(3)x10(-4) emu.K/mol and temperature-independent paramagnetism (TIP)=1.3(1)x10(-4) emu/mol to C=3.2(1)x10(-3) emu.K/mol and TIP=9.0(1)x10(-4) emu/mol], accompanied by an increase in the lattice-defect S=1/2 sites [from 0.087(1) to 0.43(1)%]. Computational analysis using the multiconfigurational approach [CASSCF(6,6)/6-31G*] indicated that the two-electron multicentered pi*-pi* bonds in [8*+]2 and [8]2 have substantial diradical characters, implying that their ground states are diradicaloid in nature. Our results suggest that the electronic structure of organic-radical ion pairs, for example, [TTF*+]2, [TCNE*-]2, [TCNQ*-]2, [DDQ*-]2, and related pi dimers, can be described in a similar way.  相似文献

A high yield, one-pot synthesis of the 1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolyl radical NC-(CF2)4-CNSSN radical by reduction of the corresponding 1,3,2,4-dithiadiazolium salt is reported. In the solid state, the title compound is dimerized in trans-cofacial fashion with intra-dimeric Sdelta+...N(delta-) interactions of ca. 3.2 angstroms, and the dimeric units are linked by electrostatic -C triple bond N(delta-)...Sdelta+ interactions forming an infinite chain. Magnetic susceptibility measurements performed on the solid state sample indicate a magnetic moment of 1.8 microB per dimer (1.3 microB per monomer) at 300 K and a good fit to the Bleaney-Bowers model in the temperature range 2-300 K with 2J = -1500 +/- 50 cm(-1), g = 2.02(5), rho = 0.90(3)%, and TIP = 1.25(4) x 10(-3) emu mol(-1). The [NC-(CF2)4-CNSSN radical]2 dimer is the second example of a 1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolyl radical dimer with an experimentally detected triplet excited state as probed by solid-state EPR [2J = -1730 +/- 100 cm(-1), |D| = 0.0278(5) cm(-1), |E| = 0.0047(5) cm(-1)]. The value of the singlet-triplet gap has enabled us to estimate the "in situ" dimerization energy of the radical dimer as ca. -10 kJ mol(-1). The diradical character of the dimer was calculated [CASSCF(6,6)/6-31G*] as 35%. The title radical shows magnetic bistability in the temperature range of 305-335 K as probed by the solid-state EPR presumably arising from the presence of a metastable paramagnetic supercooled phase. Bistability is accompanied by thermochromic behavior with a color change from dark green (dimeric solid) to dark brown (paramagnetic liquid).  相似文献

EPR study of Mn2+ doped ammonium tartrate single crystals is carried out at room temperature. The spin Hamiltonian parameters are: gx=1.9225+/-0.0002, gy=1.9554+/-0.0002, gz=2.1258+/-0.0002, A=(78+/-2) x 10(-4) cm(-1), B=(75+/-2) x 10(-4) cm(-1), D=(191+/-2) x 10(-4) cm(-1), E=(61+/-2) x 10(-4) cm(-1) and a=(22+/-1) x 10(-4) cm(-1) for site I and gx=1.9235+/-0.0002, gy=1.9574+/-0.0002, gz=2.0664+/-0.0002, A=(78+/-2) x 10(-4) cm(-1), B=(75+/-2) x 10(-4) cm(-1), D=(180+/-2) x 10(-4) cm(-1), E=(57+/-2) x 10(-4) cm(-1) and a=(22+/-1) x 10(-4) cm(-1) for site II, respectively. The observed optical bands are fitted with inter-electronic repulsion parameters (B and C), crystal field parameter (Dq) and Trees correction (alpha) and the values found are B=752, C=2438, Dq=765 and alpha=76 cm(-1). The data obtained are further used to discuss the surrounding crystal field and the nature of metal-ligand bonding in the crystal.  相似文献

This paper presents the synthesis of a series of nitronyl-nitroxide (NN), oxoverdazyl (OVZ) based mono-, and bi-radicals attached to 4-phenyl-2,6-bispyrazolylpyridine coupling unit, their optical, electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopic studies and computational analysis. The ESR studies revealed that the axial zero-field splitting (zfs) parameter of the NN biradical (|D/hc| = 0.00719 cm(-1)) is larger than the OVZ biradical (|D/hc| = 0.00601 cm(-1)). Additionally both biradicals displayed forbidden half-field transitions (ΔM(s) = ±2; g(av) ~ 4.01) at 170 K demonstrating their triplet nature. The cryogenic ESR measurements of the two biradicals showed a Curie magnetic behaviour of the ΔM(s) = ±2 signal intensities (χ(EPR)) down to 4.2 K. A detailed comparative analysis of the strength of hyperfine coupling, spin density distribution, zfs and the spin-spin exchange coupling (J) of both NN and OVZ based biradicals showed that the ground state spin multiplicity of both biradicals is probably triplet (S = 1) or it is nearly degenerate singlet-triplet states with J(NN)?J(OVZ).  相似文献

The well-known red emitting complex Ir(btp)2(acac) (bis(2-(2'-benzothienyl)-pyridinato-N,C3')iridium(acetylacetonate)), frequently used as emitter material in OLEDs, has been investigated in a polycrystalline CH2Cl2 matrix. The studies were carried out under variation of temperature down to 1.2 K and at magnetic fields up to B=10 T. Highly resolved emission and excitation spectra of several specific sites are obtained by site-selective spectroscopy. For the preferentially investigated site (I-->0 at 16268 cm-1), the three substates I, II, and III of the T1 triplet state are separated by DeltaEII-I=2.9 cm-1 and DeltaEIII-I=25.0 cm-1, respectively. DeltaEIII-I represents the total zero-field splitting (ZFS). The individual decay times of these substates are tauI=150 micros, tauII=58 micros, and tauIII=2 micros, respectively. The long decay time of the lowest substate I indicates its almost pure triplet character. The time for relaxation from state II to state I (spin-lattice relaxation, SLR) is as long as 22 micros at T=1.5 K, while the thermalization between the two lower lying substates and substate III is fast. Application of a magnetic field induces Zeeman mixing of the substates of T1, resulting in an increased splitting between the two lower lying substates from 2.9 cm-1 at zero field to, for example, 6.8 cm-1 at B=10 T. Further, the decay time of the B-field perturbed lowest substate IB decreases by a factor of about 7 up to 10 T. The magnetic field properties clearly show that the three investigated states belong to the same triplet parent term of one single site. Other sites show a similar behavior, though the values of ZFS vary between 15 and 27 cm-1. Since the amount of ZFS reflects the extent of MLCT (metal-to-ligand charge transfer) parentage, it can be concluded that the emitting state T1 is a 3LC (ligand centered) state with significant admixtures of 1,3MLCT (metal-to-ligand charge transfer) character. Interestingly, the results show that the MLCT perturbation is different for the various sites. An empirical correlation between the amount of ZFS and the compound's potential for its use as emitter material in an OLED is presented. As a rule of thumb, a triplet emitter is considered promising for application in OLEDs, if it has a ZFS larger than about 10 cm-1.  相似文献
