Expected sensitivity of future atmospheric neutrino data from Super-Kamiokande on neutrino oscillation physics is discussed. We expect that the accuracy of the sin 2θ23 measurement will be improved with (exposure time) . By analyzing high energy fully contained events, it could be possible to statistically demonstrate the existence of charged current ντ interactions at the 3 standard deviation level with a few more years of data. Subdominant νμ → νe oscillations could be observed if θ13 is near the present limit. However, significantly more data will be required to observe a 3 standard deviation effect.  相似文献

Models of neutrino masses are discussed capable of explaining in a natural way the maximal mixing between νμ and ντ observed by the Super-Kamiokande Collaboration. For three generations of leptons two classes of such models are found implying: a) Δm232Δm122≈Δm132 and a small mixing between νe and the other two neutrinos, b) Δm122Δm132≈Δm232 and a nearly maximal mixing for solar neutrino oscillations in vacuum.  相似文献

The Liquid Argon imaging technique, as proposed for the ICARUS detector, offers the possibility to perform complementary and simultaneous measurements of neutrinos, as those of CERN to Gran Sasso beam (CNGS) and those from cosmic ray events. For the currently allowed values of the Super—Kamiokande results, the combination of both CNGS and atmospheric data will provide a precise determination of the oscillation parameters. Since one can observe and unambiguously identify νe, νμ and ντ components, this technology allows to explore the full (3 x 3) mixing matrix. The same class of detector can be proposed for high precision measurements at a neutrino factory.  相似文献

It is shown that CNDO/S calculations provide 6 significant figures of accuracy in the energies of configurations, and 4 significant figures after configuration interaction. The pairing theorem is shown not to hold in the CNDO/S method since all Fμν are calculated and since the Fμμ are not constant. It is further shown that the degeneracies required by the pairing theorem are not even approximated in naphthalene. Finally, using absorption and emission spectroscopic measurements, including triplet-triplet and excited singlet-singlet absorptions, the spectroscopic states of naphthalene are discussed in detail.  相似文献

A search for νμ → νe oscillations has been conducted at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) using νμ from π+ decay in flight. An excess in the number of beam-related events from the νe Ce X inclusive reaction is observed. The excess is too large to be explained by normal νe contamination in the beam at a confidence level greater than 99%. If interpreted as an oscillation signal, the observed oscillation probability of (2.6 ± 1.3 ± 0.5) × 10−3 is consistent with the previously reported oscillation evidence from LSND.  相似文献

The neutrino experiment KARMEN is situated at the beam stop neutrino source ISIS which provides νμ's, νe's and from the π+−μ+-decay at rest. The oscillation channels νμ → νe and are investigated with a 56 t liquid scintillation calorimeter. No evidence for oscillations could be found with KARMEN, resulting in 90% CL exclusion limits of sin2(2Θ) < 8.5 · 10−3 ( ) and sin2(2Θ) < 4.0 · 10−2μ → νe) for Δm2 > 100 eV2. In 1996, the experiment has been upgraded by an additional veto counting system with a total coverage of 300 m2. The new system allows the identification of cosmic muons in the vicinity of the detector. Vetoing these muons suppresses energetic neutrons from deep inelastic scattering of muons as well as from μ-capture by a factor of 40. Up to 1996, these neutrons represented the main background for oscillation search. The experimental sensitivity for will be significantly enhanced towards sin2(2Θ) 1.0 · 10−3 after a further measuring period of 2–3 years.  相似文献

A dynamical model for varying light velocity in cosmology is developed, based on the idea that there are two metrics in spacetime. One metric gμν describes the standard gravitational vacuum, and the other describes the geometry through which matter fields propagate. Matter propagating causally with respect to can provide acausal contributions to the matter stress-energy tensor in the field equations for gμν, which, as we explicitly demonstrate with perfect fluid and scalar field matter models, provides a mechanism for the solution of the horizon, flatness and magnetic monopole problems in an FRW universe. The field equations also provide a ‘graceful exit' to the inflationary epoch since below an energy scale (related to the mass of ψμ) we recover exactly the standard FRW field equations.  相似文献

We point out at the peculiarity of Bμνμ decay, namely the enhancement of the soft photon events which originate from the structure dependent part of the Bμνμγ amplitude. This may be a dominant source of systematic uncertainty and compromise the projected experimental uncertainty on Γ(Bμνμ). We show that the effect of these soft photons can be controlled if the experimental cut on identification of soft photons is lowered and especially if the better resolution in identifying the momentum of muon emerging from Bμνμ is made. A lattice QCD computation of the relevant form factors would be highly helpful for a better numerical control over the structure dependent soft photon emission.  相似文献

The results of Soudan-2 and MACRO experiments are summarized. Both experiments observe atmospheric neutrino anomalies in agreement with νμ → ντ oscillations with maximum mixing. The νμ → νs oscillations are disfavoured by the MACRO experiment at 98% C.L.  相似文献

Line positions, intensities, and lower state energies have been calculated for eight hot bands of 16O3 in the 3.3-μm spectral region. The results are based on spectroscopic parameters deduced in recent high-resolution laboratory studies and improved rotational energy levels of the (103), (004), and (310) vibrational states derived by refitting earlier data and experimental (004) energy levels from measurements of the 4ν3 - ν3 hot band. The good quality of the new parameters has been verified through comparisons of line-by-line simulations with high-resolution laboratory spectra. The present work and the results of our analyses of the main bands at 3.6 μm [Smith et al., J. Mol. Spectrosc.139, 171-181 (1990)] and 3.3 μm [Camy-Peyret et al., J. Mol. Spectrosc.141, 134-144 (1990)] provide a complete set of ozone spectroscopic line parameters covering the 3-μm region.  相似文献

The CHORUS experiment is designed to search for νμ → ντ oscillation with a hybrid detector system containing 800 kg nuclear emulsions as target and vertex detector. Run I (320 000 recorded νμCC in 1994/5) and more than half of the run II (460 000 νμCC in 1996/7) data taking have been successfully completed. Approximately 80 000 events have been analyzed so far, searching for and τh (nπ0) ντ decays. No candidate has been found, leading to a limit sin2μτ ≤ 4.5 10−3 for large Δm2.  相似文献

An updated analysis of the full NOMAD data corresponding to 1.35 × 106 charged current interactions has been performed to search for neutrino oscillations through ντ appearance. Our collaboration has installed a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station in Arizona. 12 tons of Gd loaded liquid scintillator, in a segmented detector, are used to search for oscillations at 740 m distance to three reactors. The anti-neutrino capture on the proton serves as detection reaction. The experiment is expected to reach a sensitivity of Δm2 > 1.3 · 10−3 eV2 and sin22Θ > 0.1. Our range of sensitivity is tuned to test the νμ ↔ νe solution of the atmospheric neutrino anomaly.  相似文献

Fourier transform measurements with an apodized apparatus function up to 0.002 cm−1 are reported for the ν9 band (ρu) of ethane in the 12-μm region, together with an integrated band strength obtained from intensity measurements on selected Q-branch lines recorded using a diode laser spectrometer. Since the ν9 band falls in an atmospheric window, these data may be useful in studies of the ethane concentration in the atmosphere of Jupiter and other outer planets. Torsional splittings in the ν9 level caused by a higher-order Coriolis interaction with the close lying 3ν4 state (a1u) have been analyzed in a global least squares fit of 2206 Fourier transform lines and 58 diode splittings to a molecular Hamiltonian containing 20 parameters, with a standard deviation of 0.35 × 10−3 cm−1. Rotational levels of one component of the torsionally split 3ν4 state cross interacting rotational levels of the ν9 state for K = 17, and the spectrum is followed to K = 19 on the pP subband side to permit inclusion of ν9 levels beyond this crossing. No transitions to 3ν4 levels were observed. The theoretical treatment presented here makes use of standard symmetric top formalism and of the G36 double-group formalism for ethane.  相似文献

We consider the renormalization of the twist two, dimension four gauge invariant operator Oμν(1) = − FμσFνσgμν 0. By using the general theory of renormalization of gauge invariant operators, we find the gauge noninvariant operator O(2) with which it mixes. We construct a finite combination of O(1) and O(2) and show that it is an acceptable energy momentum tensor for gauge theories. We compare our energy momentum tensor with that constructed by Freedman, Muzinich, and Weinberg.  相似文献

A pair of 1.5 μm semiconductor laser frequency standards have been developed for optical telecommunications use, stabilised to Doppler-free transitions of the ν1 + ν3 and ν1 + ν2 + ν4 + ν5 combination bands of 13C2H2. The Allan deviation σ/f for a laser locked to line P(10) of the former band follows a slope of 1.6 × 10−12τ−1/2, reaching a minimum of 5.7 × 10−14 at τ = 4000 s. The absolute frequencies of 61 lines of the ν1 + ν3 band and 43 lines of the ν1 + ν2 + ν4 + ν5 band, covering the spectral region 1520 nm to 1552 nm, have been measured by use of a combined frequency chain and femtosecond comb, together with a passive optical frequency comb generator. The mean uncertainties for the line frequencies within each band are 1.4 kHz for the ν1 + ν3 band and 1.9 kHz for the ν1 + ν2 + ν4 + ν5 band, representing improvements on the precision of previously published data by factors of 100 and 104, respectively. Using a high-resolution Fourier transform spectrum of hydrogen selenide in natural abundance, about 600 intensities of lines belonging to the ν1, ν3, and 2ν2 bands of H280Se were measured. A least-squares fit of these intensities was performed, allowing determination of the vibrational transition moments of these bands and their rotational corrections. Finally, the first derivatives of the dipole moment with respect to the normal coordinates q1 and q3 were found to be ∂μχ/∂q1 = (−0.5938 ± 0.010) × 10−1 and ∂μz/∂q3 = (0.5683 ± 0.010) × 10−1 Debye, respectively.  相似文献

New measurements are reported for the infrared spectrum of sulfur trioxide, 32S16O3, with resolutions ranging from 0.0015 cm−1 to 0.0025 cm−1. Rovibrational constants have been measured for the fundamentals ν2, ν3, and ν4 and the overtone band 2ν3. Comparisons are made with the earlier high-resolution measurements on SO3, and the high correlation among some of the constants related to the Coriolis coupling of the ν2 and ν4 levels is discussed in order to understand the areas of disagreement with the earlier work. Splittings of some of the levels are observed and the splitting constant for K=3 of the ground state is determined for the first time. Other observed splittings include the K=1 levels of 2ν3 (l=2), the K=2 levels of ν3 and ν4, and the K=3 levels of ν2. The analysis shows that there are level crossings between the l=0 and l=2 states of 2ν3 that allow one to determine the separation of the subband centers for these two states even though access to the l=0 state from the ground state is electric-dipole forbidden. This is a generalized phenomenon that should be found for many other molecules with the same symmetry. The l-type resonance constant, q3, that causes the splitting of the l3=±1, k=±1 levels of ν3 also couples the l3=0 and 2 states of 2ν3.  相似文献
