In this paper, we study the static dielectric function and interaction potential in strong coupling limit with AdS/CFT correspondence. The dielectric function is depressed compared with that in weak coupling. The interaction potential then presents a weaker screening characteristics in strong coupling, which indicates a smaller Debye mass compared with weak coupling.  相似文献

It has been recently proposed that string theory in the background of a plane wave corresponds to a certain subsector of the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. This correspondence follows as a limit of the AdS/CFT duality. As a particular case of the AdS/CFT correspondence, it is a priori a strong-weak coupling duality. However, the predictions for the anomalous dimensions which follow from this particular limit are analytic functions of the 't Hooft coupling constant λ and have a well-defined expansion in the weak coupling regime. This allows one to conjecture that the correspondence between the strings on the plane wave background and the Yang-Mills theory works at the level of perturbative expansions. In our paper we perform perturbative computations in the Yang-Mills theory that confirm this conjecture. We calculate the anomalous dimension of the operator corresponding to the elementary string excitation. We verify at the two-loop level that the anomalous dimension has a finite limit when the R-charge J→∞ keeps λ/J2 finite. We conjecture that this is true at higher orders of perturbation theory. We show, by summing an infinite subset of Feynman diagrams, under the above assumption, that the anomalous dimensions arising from the Yang-Mills perturbation theory are in agreement with the anomalous dimensions following from the string worldsheet sigma-model.  相似文献

We use the polynomial formulation of the holomorphic anomaly equations governing perturbative topological string theory to derive the free energies in a scaling limit to all orders in perturbation theory for any Calabi–Yau threefold. The partition function in this limit satisfies an Airy differential equation in a rescaled topological string coupling. One of the two solutions of this equation gives the perturbative expansion and the other solution provides geometric hints of the non-perturbative structure of topological string theory. Both solutions can be expanded naturally around strong coupling.  相似文献

The partition function of N=6{\mathcal{N}=6} supersymmetric Chern–Simons-matter theory (known as ABJM theory) on \mathbbS3{\mathbb{S}^3} , as well as certain Wilson loop observables, are captured by a zero dimensional super-matrix model. This super–matrix model is closely related to a matrix model describing topological Chern–Simons theory on a lens space. We explore further these recent observations and extract more exact results in ABJM theory from the matrix model. In particular we calculate the planar free energy, which matches at strong coupling the classical IIA supergravity action on AdS4×\mathbbC\mathbbP3{{\rm AdS}_4\times\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^3} and gives the correct N 3/2 scaling for the number of degrees of freedom of the M2 brane theory. Furthermore we find contributions coming from world-sheet instanton corrections in \mathbbC\mathbbP3{\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^3} . We also calculate non-planar corrections, both to the free energy and to the Wilson loop expectation values. This matrix model appears also in the study of topological strings on a toric Calabi–Yau manifold, and an intriguing connection arises between the space of couplings of the planar ABJM theory and the moduli space of this Calabi–Yau. In particular it suggests that, in addition to the usual perturbative and strong coupling (AdS) expansions, a third natural expansion locus is the line where one of the two ’t Hooft couplings vanishes and the other is finite. This is the conifold locus of the Calabi–Yau, and leads to an expansion around topological Chern–Simons theory. We present some explicit results for the partition function and Wilson loop observables around this locus.  相似文献

Recently there has been progress in the computation of the anomalous dimensions of gauge theory operators at strong coupling by making use of the AdS/CFT correspondence. On the string theory side they are given by dispersion relations in the semiclassical regime. We revisit the problem of a large-charge expansion of the dispersion relations for simple semiclassical strings in an \(\mathrm{AdS}_4\times {\mathbb {CP}}^3\) background. We present the calculation of the corresponding anomalous dimensions of the gauge theory operators to an arbitrary order using three different methods. Although the results of the three methods look different, power series expansions show their consistency.  相似文献

Using recently developed methods for the evaluation of five-loop amplitudes in perturbative QCD, corrections of order alphas4 for the nonsinglet part of the cross section for electron-positron annihilation into hadrons and for the decay rates of the Z boson and the tau lepton into hadrons are evaluated. The new terms lead to a significant stabilization of the perturbative series, to a reduction of the theory uncertainly in the strong coupling constant alphas, as extracted from these measurements, and to a small shift of the central value, moving the two central values closer together. The agreement between two values of alphas measured at vastly different energies constitutes a striking test of asymptotic freedom. Combining the results from Z and tau decays we find alphas(MZ)=0.1198+/-0.0015 as one of the most precise and presently only result for the strong coupling constant in order alphas4.  相似文献

We study tunneling pair creation of W bosons by an external electric field on the Coulomb branch of N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We use AdS/CFT holography to find a generalization of Schwinger's formula for the pair production rate to the strong coupling, planar limit which includes the exchange of virtual massless particles to all orders. We find that the pair creation formula has an upper critical electric field beyond which the process is no longer exponentially suppressed. The value of the critical field is identical to that which occurs in the Born-Infeld action of probe D3-branes in the AdS(5)×S(5) background, where AdS(5) and S(5) are 5-dimensional anti-de Sitter space and the 5-sphere, respectively.  相似文献

We show that perturbative high scale unification and a solution to the hierarchy problem are possible with extra dimensions in the context of the warped geometry of 5D anti-de Sitter space ( AdS(5)). This is possible because the couplings for bulk gauge bosons run logarithmically below the AdS(5) curvature scale. The calculation is done in five dimensions, rather than in the effective theory, which is strongly coupled above the TeV scale.  相似文献

We show how the structure function W, for two photon scattering is related to gluon spin strongly. We also Show that due to triple gluon coupling W, can be calculated to o(g2) in perturbative QCD.  相似文献

We derive the perturbative five loop anomalous dimension of the Konishi operator in N=4N=4 SYM theory from the integrable string sigma model by evaluating finite size effects using Lüscher formulas adapted to multimagnon states at weak coupling. In addition, we derive the five loop wrapping contribution for the L=2L=2 single impurity state in the β deformed theory, which may be within reach of a direct perturbative computation. The Konishi expression exhibits two new features — a modification of Asymptotic Bethe Ansatz quantization and sensitiveness to an infinite set of coefficients of the BES/BHL dressing phase. The result satisfies nontrivial self-consistency conditions — simple transcendentality structure and cancellation of μ-term poles. It may be a testing ground for the proposed AdS/CFT TBA systems.  相似文献

In the bottom-up approach to AdS/QCD based on a five-dimensional gravity dilaton action the exponential of the dilaton field is usually identified as the strong or 't Hooft coupling. There is currently no model known which fits the measurements of the running coupling and lattice results for pressure at the same time. With a one parametric toy model we demonstrate the effect of fitting the pressure on the coupling and vice versa.  相似文献

We argue that the thermodynamics of conformal field theories with AdS duals exhibits a remarkable universality. At strong coupling, a Cardy–Verlinde entropy formula holds even when R-charges or bulk supergravity scalars are turned on. In such a setting, the Casimir entropy can be identified with a generalized C-function that changes monotonically with temperature as well as when non-trivial bulk scalar fields are introduced. We generalize the Cardy–Verlinde formula to cases where no subextensive part of the energy is present and further observe that such a formula is valid for the super Yang–Mills theory in D=4 even at weak coupling. Finally we show that a generalized Cardy–Verlinde formula holds for asymptotically flat black holes in any dimension.  相似文献

We establish a unified way for the calculation of the critical exponents, without the use of epsilon expansion, through the improvement of the perturbative effective potential of the 1+1 dimensional $({\frac{g}{4}}\phi^{4}-J\phi)$ scalar field theory. First, we obtain the perturbation series for the effective potential up to g 3. We improved the perturbative effective potential by establishing a parameter-free resummation algorithm, originally due to Kleinert, Thoms and Janke, which has the privilege of using the strong coupling as well as the large coupling behaviors rather than the conventional resummation techniques which use only the large order behavior. Accordingly, although the perturbation series available is up to g 3 order, we found a complete agreement between our resummed effective potential and the well known features from constructive field theory. We prove that the 1-PI correlation functions and the effective potential ought to have the same large order as well as strong coupling behaviors. We computed the critical exponents and our results show a good agreement with the exact Ising model values.  相似文献

We use the AdS/CFT correspondence to compute the energy radiated by an infinitely massive half-Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfeld particle charged under N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, transforming in the symmetric or antisymmetric representation of the gauge group, and moving in the vacuum, to all orders in 1/N and for large 't Hooft coupling. For the antisymmetric case we consider D5-branes reaching the boundary of five-dimensional anti-de Sitter space (AdS(5)) at arbitrary timelike trajectories, while for the symmetric case, we consider a D3-brane in AdS(5) that reaches the boundary at a hyperbola. We compare our results to the one obtained for the fundamental representation, deduced by considering a string in AdS(5).  相似文献

Two-parton correlations in the pion are investigated in terms of double parton distribution functions. A Poincaré covariant light-front framework has been adopted. As non perturbative input, the pion wave function obtained within the so-called soft-wall AdS/QCD model has been used. Results show how novel dynamical information on the structure of the pion, not accessible through one-body quantities, are encoded in double parton distribution functions.  相似文献

We study the survival of charmonium states in a strongly-coupled quark–gluon plasma in the presence of dissipative forces. We consider first-order dissipative corrections to the plasma equation of motion in the Bjorken boost-invariant expansion with a strongly-coupled equation of state for QGP and study the survival of these states with the dissociation temperatures obtained by correcting the full Cornell potential not its Coulomb part alone with a dielectric function encoding the effects of deconfined medium. We further explore the sensitivity of prompt and sequential suppression of these states to the shear viscosity-to-entropy density ratio, η/s from perturbative QCD and AdS/CFT predictions. Our results show nice agreement with the recent experimental results at RHIC.  相似文献

We reexamine the dynamical generation of mass for fermions charged under various Lie groups with equal charge and mass at a high Grand Unification scale, extending the Renormalization Group Equations in the perturbative regime to two loops and matching to the Dyson-Schwinger Equations in the strong coupling regime.  相似文献
