Let ? : XY be an affine continuous surjection between compact convex sets. Suppose that the canonical copy of the space of real-valued affine continuous functions on Y in the space of real-valued affine continuous functions on X is complemented. We show that if F is a topological vector space, then f : YF is of affine Baire class α whenever the composition f ? ? is of affine Baire class α. This abstract result is applied to extend known results on affine Baire classes of strongly affine Baire mappings.  相似文献

Given two affine algebraic varieties X and Y such that X × ? ? Y × ?, it may happen that X and Y are not isomorphic. This is shown, for example, by so-called “Danielewski surfaces.” In this note, we give a simple construction of such varieties X, Y of an arbitrary dimension n > 1.  相似文献

It is shown that groups satisfying a law [X n ,Y]=[X, Y n ] for some positive integern must also satisfy an Engel-like condition [X, r Y]=[X, r+d Y]. Some further properties of these groups are being discussed.  相似文献

To every Poisson algebraic variety X over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, we canonically attach a right D-module M(X) on X. If X is affine, solutions of M(X) in the space of algebraic distributions on X are Poisson traces on X, i.e. distributions invariant under Hamiltonian flow. When X has finitely many symplectic leaves, we prove that M(X) is holonomic. Thus, when X is affine and has finitely many symplectic leaves, the space of Poisson traces on X is finite-dimensional. Let X* be a subset of an affine space 𝔸 s , over a finite field K, which is parameterized by the edges of a clutter. Let X and Y be the images of X* under the maps x → [x] and x → [(x, 1)], respectively, where [x] and [(x, 1)] are points in the projective spaces ? s?1 and ? s , respectively. For certain clutters and for connected graphs, we were able to relate the algebraic invariants and properties of the vanishing ideals I(X) and I(Y). In a number of interesting cases, we compute its degree and regularity. For Hamiltonian bipartite graphs, we show the Eisenbud–Goto regularity conjecture. We give optimal bounds for the regularity when the graph is bipartite. It is shown that X* is an affine torus if and only if I(Y) is a complete intersection. We present some applications to coding theory and show some bounds for the minimum distance of parameterized linear codes for connected bipartite graphs.  相似文献

LetK be a compact, convex subset ofE dwhich can be tiled by a finite number of disjoint (on interiors) translates of some compact setY. Then we may writeK=X+Y, whereX is finite. The possible structures forK, X andY are completely determined under these conditions.  相似文献

Exact distributions of R = X +Y and W = X/(X +Y ) and the corresponding moment properties are derived when X and Y follow five flexible bivariate gamma distributions. The expressions turn out to involve several special functions.  相似文献

An irreducible algebraic ℤ d -actionα on a compact abelian group X is a ℤ d -action by automorphisms of X such that every closed, α-invariant subgroup YX is finite. We prove the following result: if d≥2, then every measurable conjugacy between irreducible and mixing algebraic ℤ d -actions on compact zero-dimensional abelian groups is affine. For irreducible, expansive and mixing algebraic ℤ d -actions on compact connected abelian groups the analogous statement follows essentially from a result by Katok and Spatzier on invariant measures of such actions (cf. [4] and [3]). By combining these two theorems one obtains isomorphism rigidity of all irreducible, expansive and mixing algebraic ℤ d -actions with d≥2. LetX be a smooth complex algebraic surface such that there is a proper birational morphism/:X → Y withY an affine variety. Let Xhol be the 2-dimensional complex manifold associated toX. Here we give conditions onX which imply that every holomorphic vector bundle onX is algebraizable and it is an extension of line bundles. We also give an approximation theorem of holomorphic vector bundles on Xhol (X normal algebraic surface) by algebraic vector bundles.  相似文献

Let R be a real closed field and let X be an affine algebraic variety over R. We say that X is universally map rigid (UMR for short) if, for each irreducible affine algebraic variety Z over R, the set of nonconstant rational maps from Z to X is finite. A bijective map from an affine algebraic variety over R to X is called weak change of the algebraic structure of X if it is regular and φ−1 is a Nash map, which preserves nonsingular points. We prove the following rigidity theorem: every affine algebraic variety over R is UMR up to a weak change of its algebraic structure. Let us introduce another notion. Let Y be an affine algebraic variety over R. We say that X and Y are algebraically unfriendly if all the rational maps from X to Y and from Y to X are trivial, i.e., Zariski locally constant. From the preceding theorem, we infer that, if dim (X)≥1, then there exists a set of weak changes of the algebraic structure of X such that, for each t,sR with ts, and are algebraically unfriendly. This result implies the following expected fact: For each (nonsingular) affine algebraic variety X over R of positive dimension, the natural Nash structure of X does not determine the algebraic structure of X. In fact, the moduli space of birationally nonisomorphic (nonsingular) affine algebraic varieties over R, which are Nash isomorphic to X, has the same cardinality of R. This result was already known under the special assumption that R is the field of real numbers and X is compact and nonsingular. For semi-recursive and recursive kernel estimates of a regression of Y on X (d-dimensional random vector X, integrable real random variable Y), introduced by Devroye and Wagner and by Révész, respectively, strong universal pointwise consistency is shown, i.e. strong consistency P X -almost everywhere for general distribution of (X, Y). Similar results are shown for the corresponding partitioning estimates.  相似文献

Our paper studies the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets on the space of densely continuous forms (introduced by Hammer and McCoy (1997)), usco and minimal usco maps. We generalize and complete results from Hammer and McCoy (1997) concerning the space D(X,Y) of densely continuous forms from X to Y. Let X be a Hausdorff topological space, (Y,d) be a metric space and D k (X,Y) the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets on D(X,Y). We prove the following main results: D k (X,Y) is metrizable iff D k (X,Y) is first countable iff X is hemicompact. This result gives also a positive answer to question 4.1 of McCoy (1998). If moreover X is a locally compact hemicompact space and (Y,d) is a locally compact complete metric space, then D k (X,Y) is completely metrizable, thus improving a result from McCoy (1998). We study also the question, suggested by Hammer and McCoy (1998), when two compatible metrics on Y generate the same topologies of uniform convergence on compact sets on D(X,Y). The completeness of the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets on the space of set-valued maps with closed graphs, usco and minimal usco maps is also discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

Let d 1 : k[X] → k[X] and d 2 : k[Y] → k[Y] be k-derivations, where k[X] ? k[x 1,…,x n ], k[Y] ? k[y 1,…,y m ] are polynomial algebras over a field k of characteristic zero. Denote by d 1 ⊕ d 2 the unique k-derivation of k[X, Y] such that d| k[X] = d 1 and d| k[Y] = d 2. We prove that if d 1 and d 2 are positively homogeneous and if d 1 has no nontrivial Darboux polynomials, then every Darboux polynomial of d 1 ⊕ d 2 belongs to k[Y] and is a Darboux polynomial of d 2. We prove a similar fact for the algebra of constants of d 1 ⊕ d 2 and present several applications of our results.  相似文献

The comedianCOM(X, Y) of random variablesX,Yis a median based robust alternative to the covariance ofXofY. For the bivariate normal case it is known thatCOM(X, Y), standardized by the median absolute deviations ofXandY, is a symmetric, strictly increasing and continuous function of the correlation coefficientρwith range [−1, 1] and can therefore serve as a robust alternative toρ. We show that this result, which is not true in general, extends to elliptical distributions even in the case where moments ofX,Ydo not exist.  相似文献

Let F be a field of characteristic ≠2 and φ be a quadratic form over F. By X φ we denote the projective variety given by the equation φ=0. For each positive even integer d≥8 (except for d=12) we construct a field F and a pair φ, ψ of anisotropic d-dimensional forms over F such that the Chow motives of X φ and X ψ coincide but . For a pair of anisotropic (2 n -1)-dimensional quadrics X and Y, we prove that existence of a rational morphism YX is equivalent to existence of a rational morphism YX. Given complex algebraic varieties X and Y of the same dimension, the Cancellation Problem asks if an isomorphism between X  ×  and Y  ×  induces an isomorphism between X and Y. Iitaka and Fujita (J. Fac. Sci. Univ. 24:123–127, 1977) established that the answer is positive for a large class of varieties of any dimension. In 1989, Danielewski constructed a counterexample using smooth rational affine surfaces. His construction was further generalized by Fieseler (Comment. Math. Helvetici 69:5–27, 1994) and Wilkens (C.R. Acad. Sci. Paris Sér. I Math. 326(9):1111–1116, 1998) to describe a larger class of affine surfaces. Here we introduce higher-dimensional analogues of these surfaces. By studying algebraic actions of the additive group on certain of these varieties, we obtain new counterexamples to the Cancellation Problem in every dimension d ≥ 2.  相似文献

It is well known that full knowledge of all conditional distributions will typically serve to completely characterize a bivariate distribution. Partial knowledge will often suffice. For example, knowledge of the conditional distribution of X given Y and the conditional mean of Y given X is often adequate to determine the joint distribution of X and Y. In this paper, we investigate the extent to which a conditional percentile function or a conditional mode function (of Y given X), together with knowledge of the conditional distribution of X given Y will determine the joint distribution. Finally, using this methodology a new characterization of the classical bivariate normal distribution is given.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive transform formulae for linear functionals of affine processes and their bridges whose state space is the set of positive semidefinite d×dd×d matrices. Particularly, we investigate the relationship between such transforms and certain integral equations. Our findings extend and unify the well known results of Cuchiero et al. (2011) [5] and Pitman and Yor (1982) [19], who analysed affine processes on positive semidefinite matrices and transforms of linear functionals of squared Bessel processes, respectively. We are, then, able to derive analytic expressions for Laplace transforms of some functionals of Wishart bridges.  相似文献
