Pointwise weighted approximation by Bernstein operators

We consider the pointwise weighted approximation by Bernstein operators. The related weight functions are Jacobi weights . We obtain approximation equivalence theorems, using a weighted modulus of smoothness , which is an extension of~[5].     

Pointwise Approximation Theorems for Combinations and Derivatives of Bernstein Polynomials

We establish the pointwise approximation theorems for the combinations of Bernstein polynomials by the rth Ditzian-Totik modulus of smoothness wФ^r（f, t） where Ф is an admissible step-weight function. An equivalence relation between the derivatives of these polynomials and the smoothness of functions is also obtained.

Spectrum of a class of fourth order left-definite differential operators

The spectrum of a class of fourth order left-definite differential operators is studied. By using the theory of indefinite differential operators in Krein space and the relationship between left-definite and right-definite operators, the following conclusions are obtained： if a fourth order differential operator with a self-adjoint boundary condition that is left-definite and right-indefinite, then all its eigenvalues are real, and there exist countably infinitely many positive and negative eigenvalues which are unbounded from below and above, have no finite cluster point and can be indexed to satisfy the inequality …≤λ-2≤λ-1≤λ-0〈0〈λ0≤λ1≤λ2≤…     

多元Bernstein算子的导数与函数的光滑性

利用一个新的光滑性度量刻画多元Bernstein算子方向导数的特征,建立Bernstein算子的导数与逼近函数光滑性之间的等价关系。同时,一个关于一元Bernstein算子的相应结果被推广到多元情形。

Derivatives of multidimensional Bernstein operators and smoothness

We characterize the directional derivatives of multidimensional Bernstein operators by a new measure of smoothness. This task is carried out by means of establishing the relation between the asymptotic behavior of the derivatives and the smoothness of the functions they approximate. The obtained results generalize the corresponding ones for univariate Bernstein operators.     

Unconstrained and convex polynomial approximation inC[−1,1]

Some estimates for unconstrained and convex polynomial approximation in the uniform metric are obtained. These results are given in terms of the Ditzian-Totik moduli of smoothness , ≤1 with . The construction of the approximating polynomials does not depend on λ.

Polynomial Trace Estimates for Semigroups

For semigroups (e ^tA ) _t0 of operators on a Hilbert space, we give conditions guaranteeing trace estimates of the polynomial type 0$$ " align="middle" border="0"> , where denotes the trace class. As an application we present higher order analogues of results due to E.B. Davies, B. Simon and M. van den Berg of the type 0$$ " align="middle" border="0"> , for certain unbounded domains , e.g. spiny urchin domains.

Strong Converse Inequality for Left Gamma Quasi-Interpolants

The rate of convergence for the Gamma operators cannot be faster than O(1/n). In order to obtain much faster convergence, quasi-interpolants in the sense of Sablonniere are considered. For the first time in the theory of quasi-interpolants, the strong converse inequality is solved in sup-norm with the K-functional K_λ~α(f, t~(2r)) (0≤λ≤1, 0<α< 2r).

SOME CONVERSE RESULTS ON ONESIDED APPROXIMATION ： JUSTIFICATIONS

The present paper deals with best onesided approximation rate in Lp spaces ^~En（f）Lp of f∈C2π.Although it is clear that the estimate ^~E(f)Lp≤C‖f‖Lp cannot be correct for all f∈L^p2π in case p＜∞, the question whether ~En(f)Lp≤Cω(f,n^-l)Lp or ^~En(f)Lp≤CEn(f)Lp holds for f∈ C2π remains totally untouched.Therefore it forms a basic problem to justify onesided approximation. The present paper will provide an answer to settle down the basis.

Exponential Stability of Traveling Pulse Solutions of a Singularly Perturbed System of Integral Differential Equations Arising From Excitatory Neuronal Networks

We establish the exponential stability of fast traveling pulse solutions to nonlinear singularly per-turbed systems of integral differential equations arising from neuronal networks.It has been proved that expo-nential stability of these orbits is equivalent to linear stability.Let (?) be the linear differential operator obtainedby linearizing the nonlinear system about its fast pulse,and let σ((?)) be the spectrum of (?).The linearizedstability criterion says that if max{Reλ:λ∈σ((?)),λ≠0}(?)-D,for some positive constant D,and λ=0 is asimple eigenvalue of (?)(ε),then the stability follows immediately (see [13] and [37]).Therefore,to establish theexponential stability of the fast pulse,it suffices to investigate the spectrum of the operator (?).It is relativelyeasy to find the continuous spectrum,but it is very difficult to find the isolated spectrum.The real part ofthe continuous spectrum has a uniformly negative upper bound,hence it causes no threat to the stability.Itremains to see if the isolated spectrum is safe.Eigenvalue functions (see [14] and [35,36]) have been a powerful tool to study the isolated spectrum of the as-sociated linear differential operators because the zeros of the eigenvalue functions coincide with the eigenvaluesof the operators.There have been some known methods to define eigenvalue functions for nonlinear systems ofreaction diffusion equations and for nonlinear dispersive wave equations.But for integral differential equations,we have to use different ideas to construct eigenvalue functions.We will use the method of variation of param-eters to construct the eigenvalue functions in the complex plane C.By analyzing the eigenvalue functions,wefind that there are no nonzero eigenvalues of (?) in {λ∈C:Reλ(?)-D} for the fast traveling pulse.Moreoverλ=0 is simple.This implies that the exponential stability of the fast orbits is true.     

On pointwise estimate for Gamma operators

For linear combinations of Gamma operators, if 0＜a＜2r, 1/2-1/2r≤λ≤l, or 0≤λ＜1/2-1/2r(r≥2),0＜a＜r+10＜a<(r+1)/1-λ, we obtain an equivalent theorem with ωuλρ(f ,t) instead of ωrλφ(f,t), where ωuφ(f,t) is theDitzian-Totik moduli of smoothness.

Equivalent theorems on simultaneous approximation by combinations of Gamma operators

In this paper,some equivalent theorems on simultaneous approximation for combinations of Gamma operators by weighted moduli of smoothness ωr(4)λ(f,t)w(4)s(O≤λ≤1)are given.The relation between derivatives of combinations of Gamma operators and smoothness of derivatives of functions is also investigated.
