Limits for the neutrino decay νH→νL+γ, where νH and νL are assumed to be massive neutrinos withmVH>mVL, are presented using data from the Solar Maximum Mission satellite taken in coincidence with the detected neutrino burst from SN 1987A. These limits are essentially independent of supernova models and are and τ/mνμ,τ>3.3×1014 s/eV for a thermal spectrum at a temperature .  相似文献

A general approach for construction of quark and lepton mass matrices is formulated. The hierarchy of quarks and charged leptons (“electrons”) is large, it leads using the experimental values of mixing angles to the hierarchical mass matrix slightly deviating from the ones suggested earlier by Stech and including naturally the CP-phase.

The same method based on the rotation of generation numbers in the diagonal mass matrix is used in the electron–neutrino sector of theory, where neutrino mass matrix is determined by the Majorano see-saw approach. The hierarchy of neutrino masses, much smaller than for quarks, was used including all existing (even preliminary) experimental data on neutrino mixing.

The leptonic mass matrix found in this way includes the unknown value of the leptonic CP-phase. It leads to large νμντ oscillations and suppresses the νeντ and also νeνμ oscillations. The explicit expressions for the probabilities of neutrino oscillation were obtained in order to specify the role of leptonic CP-phase. The value of time reversal effect (proportional to sin δ′) was found to be small 1%. However, a dependence of the values of νeνμeντ transition probabilities, averaged over oscillations, on the leptonic CP-phase has found to be not small – of order of ten percent.  相似文献

The anomalous eμ and 2-prong μx events produced in e+e annihilation are used to determine the properties of the proposed τ charged lepton. We find the τ mass is 1.90 ± 0.10 GeV/c2; the mass of the associated neutrino, ντ, is less than 0.6 GeV/c2 with 95% confidence; V - A coupling is favored over V + A coupling for the τ − ντ current; and the leptonic branching ratios are 0.186 ± 0.010 ± 0.028 from the eμ events and 0.175 ± 0.027 ± 0.030 from the μx events where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.  相似文献

We present a model where an unstable MeV Majorana tau neutrino can naturally reconcile the cold dark matter model (CDM) with cosmological observations of large and small scale density fluctuations and, simultaneously, with data on solar and atmospheric neutrinos. The solar neutrino deficit is explained through long wavelength, so-called just-so oscillations involving conversions of νe into both νμ and a sterile species νs , while atmospheric neutrino data are explained through νμ to νe conversions. Future long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments, as well as some reactor experiments will test this hypothesis. The model is based on the spontaneous violation of a global lepton number symmetry at the weak scale. This symmetry plays a key role in generating the cosmologically required decay of the ντ with lifetime τντ ≈ 102-104 seconds, as well as the masses and oscillations of the three light neutrinos νe, νμ and νs required in order to account for solar and atmospheric neutrino data. It also leads to the invisibly decaying Higgs signature that can be searched at LEP and future particle colliders.  相似文献

The differential geometry of an imbedded (e.g. string or membrane world sheet) surface in a higher-dimensional background is shown to be conveniently describable (except in the null limit case) in terms of what are designated as its first, second, and third fundamental tensors, which will have the respective symmetry properties ημν = η(μν) as a trivial algebraic identity, Kμνρ = K(μν)ρ as the “generalised Weingarten identity”, which is the (Frobenius type) integrability condition for the imbedding, and Ξλμνρ = Ξ(λμν)ρ as a “generalised Codazzi equation”, which depends on the background geometry being flat or of constant curvature, needing replacement by a more complicated expression for a generic value of the background curvature Bκλμν. The “generalised Gauss equation” expressing the dependence on this background curvature of the internal curvature tensor Rκλμν of the imbedded surface is converted into terms of the first and second fundamental tensors, and it is thereby demonstrated that the vanishing of the (conformally invariant) “conformation tensor”, i.e. the trace free part Cμνρ of the second fundamental tensor Kμvρ, is a sufficient condition for conformal flatness of the imbedded surface (and thus in particular for the vanishing of its (Weyl type) conformal curvature tensor Cκλμν) provided the background is itself conformally flat. In a trio of which the first two members are the generalised Gauss and Codazzi equations, the “third” member is shown to give an expression in terms of Cμνρ for the (trace free, conformally invariant) “outer curvature” tensor Ωκλμν whose vanishing is the condition for feasibility of the natural generalisation of the Walker frame transportation ansatz. The vanishing of Cμνρ is shown to be sufficient in a conformally flat background for the vanishing also of Ωκλμν.  相似文献

The theoretical mechanisms for the decays ψ′ → ψπ0 and ψ′ → ψη, which violate SU2 and SU3, respectively discussed. It is argued that symmetry breaking in the decay amplitudes may be as important as π0 −η −η′ mixing. The π0 −η mechanism ψ′ → ψν → ψπ0 leads to Γ(ψ′ → ψπ0) = (3.3±1.0) × 10−3 Γ(ψ′ → ψν), but this number may be enhanced by a factor as large as 12 by π0−η′ mixing and isospin violation in the decay amplitude. The related decays ψ → ηγ and ψ → η′γ are also discussed.  相似文献

Following recent results from the SNO solar neutrino experiment and the K2K long-baseline neutrino experiment, the combined existing data on neutrino oscillations now point strongly to a specific form for the lepton mixing matrix, with effective bimaximal mixing of νμ and ντ at the atmospheric scale and effective trimaximal mixing for νe with νμ and ντ at the solar scale (hence ‘tri-bimaximal’ mixing). We give simple mass-matrices leading to tri-bimaximal mixing, and discuss its relation to the Fritzsch–Xing democratic ansatz.  相似文献

Intensities have been measured for individual transitions in the Q and R branches of the ν1 band of NH3 using a difference-frequency laser spectrometer. The data yield an integrated band strength of S0v=219.36±1.03 cm-2/MPa at 297 K, corresponding to a transition moment of μv = 8.535(20) × 10-32 C·m, and a Herman-Wallis correction factor, (1 + jm)2, where j = 0.0209(20). The intensities of a few lines for K 7 were noticeably perturbed by a perpendicular Coriolis interaction with 2ν4 (E, L = 2), so were excluded from the fit. A small sample of ν3 band lines occurring in the ν1 band scans also yields a rough estimate of the ν3 band intensity with evident irregular perturbations.  相似文献

High energy neutrino bremsstrahlung ν → ν + γ in a strong magnetic field (B Bs) is studied in the framework of the Standard Model (SM). A resonance probability and a four-vector of the neutrino energy and momentum loss are presented. A possible manifestation of the neutrino bremsstrahlung in astrophysical cataclysm of type of a supernova explosion or a merger of neutron stars, as an origin of cosmological γ-burst is briefly discussed.  相似文献

We consider oscillations of the low energy (sub-GeV sample) atmospheric neutrinos in the three neutrino context. We present the semi-analytic study of the neutrino evolution and calculate characteristics of the e-like events (total number, energy spectra and zenith angle distributions) in the presence of oscillations. At low energies there are three different contributions to the number of events: the LMA contribution (from νe-oscillations driven by the solar oscillation parameters), the Ue3-contribution proportional to s132, and the Ue3-induced interference of the two amplitudes driven by the solar oscillation parameters. The interference term is sensitive to the CP-violation phase. We describe in details properties of these contributions. We find that the LMA, the interference and Ue3 contributions can reach 5–6%, 2–3% and 1–2% correspondingly. An existence of the significant (>3–5%) excess of the e-like events in the sub-GeV sample and the absence of the excess in the multi-GeV range testifies for deviation of the 2–3 mixing from maximum. We consider a possibility to measure the deviation as well as the CP-violation phase in future atmospheric neutrino studies.  相似文献

A 35Cl nuclear quadrupole resonance (35Cl-NQR) investigation of polycrystalline Ca(ClO3)2·2H2O is described. The 35Cl-NQR frequencies (νQ) for two resonance lines (νQ1 and νQ2), the spin lattice relaxation time (T1Q) for νQ2 only and the line width δνQ2 were measured in the temperature range 292–345 K, except for the frequency measured up to 455 K. The observed decrease in the resonance frequencies with increasing temperature permitted the determination of the frequencies of librations of the ClO3 ion about two axes perpendicular to the three-fold axis of the ion mainly responsible for this effect. The temperature dependence of the relaxation time T1Q proved the occurrence of water diffusion and hindered rotation of ClO3 ions. The activation energies of these two molecular motions were determined, and their effect on the electric field gradient at the site of a chlorine nucleus was discussed. Temperature measurements of the line width δνQ2 confirmed the conclusions drawn from the analysis of T1Q(T).  相似文献

A search for νμ→νe and oscillations has been conducted with the AGS wide-band neutrino beam at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. We find more νe ( e) interactions than were expected on the basis of the number of incident νe ( e) calculated as part of the neutrino beam. The excess is about a factor two over the expectation, the statistical significance being about two and a half standard deviations for νe and weaker for e.  相似文献

The Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein solution to the solar-neutrino deficit provides a range for the acceptable neutrino parameters (Δm2 and sin 2θ0). If the vacuum mixing angle θ0 is not too small, the resulting neutrino oscillation length in matter is comparable to the radius of the earth. For such appropriate neutrino parameters we study neutrino oscillations inside the earth. The core of the earth is taken as a sphere with constant density 11 g/cm3, while the mantle, surrounding the core, is taken to be a spherically symmetric shell of constant density 4.4 g/cm3. We obtain an exact, analytic expression for the probability that an electron-neutrino after traversing the earth, emerges as an electron-neutrino. Our results indicate that the neutrinos might serve as the ideal tools for earth tomography.  相似文献

Six rotational bands in the odd-odd nucleus 174Ta have been populated with the 160Gd(19F,5n) reaction. High-spin states were identified using the NORDBALL array. Both signatures of the doubly decoupled π1/2 [541] ν1/2 [521] band and semi-decoupled π1/2 [541] ν7/2 [633] band are observed, in addition to the high-K couplings of the π9/2 [514] ν7/2+ [633], π9/2 [514] ν5/2 [512], π7/2+ [404] ν7/2+ [633], and π5/2+ [402] ν5/2 [512] configurations. The signature splitting of the π1/2 [541] ν7/2+ [633] band is inverted from the expected splitting, and this is interpreted as being due to a residual proton-neutron interaction. It is shown empirically that this interaction, together with deformation changes, can account for the increased crossing frequency associated with the alignment of i13/2 neutrons in the π1/2 [541] bands of odd-Z nuclei.  相似文献

Limits on neutrino electromagnetic properties from laboratory experiments and astrophysical arguments are reviewed with an emphasis on the currently favored range of small neutrino masses. We derive a helioseismological limit on the charge and dipole moment for all flavors of eν6×10−14e and μν4×10−10μB (Bohr magneton). The most restrictive limits remain those from the plasmon decay in globular-cluster stars of eν2×10−14e and μν3×10−12μB.  相似文献

We describe a scheme to generate light Dirac neutrinos. It uses a heavy symmetry-breaking scale to avoid introducing very small couplings or vacuum expectation values. We show how the scheme can be applied to left-right symmetric and to horizontal gauge models with four generations of fermions. In these models neutrino oscillations occur only between pairs of generations (e.g. νe−ντ oscillations can occur with no νμ−νe or νμ−ντ oscillations).  相似文献

After reviewing the general properties of zero-energy quantum states, we give the explicit solutions of the Schrödinger equation with E = 0 for the class of potentials V = −|γ|/rν, where −∞ < ν < ∞. For ν > 2, these solutions are normalizable and correspond to bound states, if the angular momentum quantum number l > 0. (These states are normalizable, even for l = 0, if we increase the space dimension, D, beyond 4; i.e for D > 4.) For ν < −2 the above solutions, although unbound, are normalizable. This is true even though the corresponding potentials are repulsive for all r. We discuss the physics of these unusual effects.  相似文献

The FTIR spectroscopy of carbon monoxide adsorbed on polycrystalline MgO smoke has been investigated as a function of the CO equilibrium pressure at constant temperature (60 K) (optical isotherm) and of the temperature (in the 300–60 K range) at constant CO pressure (optical isobar). In both cases the spectra fully reproduce those of CO adsorbed on the (0 0 1) surface of UHV cleaved single crystals [Heidberg et al., Surf. Sci. 331–333 (1995) 1467]. This result, never attained in previous investigations on dispersed MgO, contribute to bridging the gap which is commonly supposed to exist between surface science and the study of “real” (defective) systems. Depending on the surface coverage θ the main spectral features due to the CO/MgO smoke interaction are a single band shifting from 2157.5 (at θ→0) to 2150.2 cm−1 (at θ=1/4) or a triplet, at 2151.5, 2137.2 and 2132.4 cm−1 (at θ>1/4). These manifestations are due to the ν(CO) modes of Mg5C2+· · · CO adducts formed on the (0 0 1) terminations of the cubic MgO smoke microcrystals. The formation of the CO monolayer is occurring in two different phases: (i) a first phase with CO oscillators perpendicularly oriented to the surface (2157–2150 cm−1) and (ii) a second phase constituted by an array of coexisting perpendicular and tilted species (triplet at 2151.5, 2137.2 and 2132.4 cm−1). A much weaker feature at 2167.5–2164 cm−1 is assigned to Mg4C2+· · · CO adducts at the edges of the microcrystals. The heat of adsorption of the perpendicular Mg5C2+· · · CO complex in the first phase has been estimated from the optical isobar and results to be 11 kJ mol−1.  相似文献
