It has recently been emphasized again that the very existence of stationary stable localized structures with short-range interactions might allow one to store information in nonequilibrium media, opening new perspectives on information storage. We show how to use generalized topological entropies to measure aspects of the quantities of storable and nonstorable information. This leads us to introduce a measure of the long-term stably storable information. As a first example to illustrate these concepts, we revisit a mechanism for the appearance of stationary stable localized structures that is related to the stabilization of fronts between structured and unstructured states (or between differently structured states). 相似文献

We analyze the energy spectrum and the wave function of a particle subjected to magnetic field in the spinning cosmic string space–time and investigate the influence of the spinning reference frame and topological defect on the system. To do this we solve Schrödinger equation in the spinning cosmic string background. In our work, instead of using an approximation in the calculations, we use the quasi-exact ansatz approach which gives the exact solutions for some primary levels. 相似文献

We consider the coupling between collective and intrinsic degrees of freedom of a many-dimensional quantum system. We give a criterion for the validity of the adiabatic approximation in tunneling processes and derive an equation for the “lag” of the intrinsic wave function with respect to the adiabatic groundstate. Ferritin stores iron as ferrihydrite inside a shell composed of H and L protein chains. H chains contain ferroxidase centres catalysing Fe2+ oxidation, while L chains lack these centres but seem to promote ferrihydrite nucleation. Mössbauer spectroscopic studies of recombinant H-chain ferritins show the following: (1) fast Fe2+ oxidation is associated with the formation of Fe3+ dimers at the ferroxidase centre; (2) within 30 min, a portion of the dimers have split to Fe3+ monomers and some monomers have moved to the threefold channels; (3) over longer times, a trend dimer monomer core is established. We emphasize that the macroscopic collapse of a dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate in a pancake-shaped trap occurs through local density fluctuations, rather than through a global collapse to the trap center. This hypothesis is supported by a recent experiment in a chromium condensate. 相似文献

The mutual relationship among Markov partitions is investigated for one-dimensional piecewise monotonic map. It is shown that if a Markov partition is regarded as a map-refinement of the other Markov partition, that is, a concept we newly introduce in this article, one can uniquely translate a set of symbolic sequences by one Markov partition to those by the other or vice versa. However, the set of symbolic sequences constructed using Markov partitions is not necessarily translated with each other if there exists no map-refinement relation among them. By using a roof map we demonstrate how the resultant symbolic sequences depend on the choice of Markov partitions. 相似文献

We study the optical properties of a single, semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) that is partially suspended
across a trench and partially supported by a SiO2-substrate. By tuning the laser excitation energy across the E
33 excitonic resonance of the suspended CNT segment, the scattering intensities of the principal Raman transitions, the radial
breathing mode (RBM), the D mode and the G mode show strong resonance enhancement of up to three orders of magnitude. In the
supported part of the CNT, despite a loss of Raman scattering intensity of up to two orders of magnitude, we recover the E
33 excitonic resonance suffering a substrate-induced red shift of 50 meV. The peak intensity ratio between G band and D band
is highly sensitive to the presence of the substrate and varies by one order of magnitude, demonstrating the much higher defect
density in the supported CNT segments. By comparing the E
33 resonance spectra measured by Raman excitation spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) excitation spectroscopy in the suspended
CNT segment, we observe that the peak energy in the PL excitation spectrum is red-shifted by 40 meV. This shift is associated
with the energy difference between the localized exciton dominating the PL excitation spectrum and the free exciton giving
rise to the Raman excitation spectrum. High-resolution Raman spectra reveal substrate-induced symmetry breaking, as evidenced
by the appearance of additional peaks in the strongly broadened Raman G band. Laser-induced line shifts of RBM and G band
measured on the suspended CNT segment are both linear as a function of the laser excitation power. Stokes/anti-Stokes measurements,
however, reveal an increase of the G phonon population while the RBM phonon population is rather independent of the laser

According to the universal entropy bound, the entropy (and hence information capacity) of a complete weakly self-gravitating
physical system can be bounded exclusively in terms of its circumscribing radius and total gravitating energy. The bound’s
correctness is supported by explicit statistical calculations of entropy, gedanken experiments involving the generalized second
law, and Bousso’s covariant holographic bound. On the other hand, it is not always obvious in a particular example how the
system avoids having too many states for given energy, and hence violating the bound. We analyze in detail several purported
counterexamples of this type, and exhibit in each case the mechanism behind the bound’s efficacy.

Insight into the boiling of water is obtained from molecular dynamics simulations. The process is initiated by the spontaneous formation of small vacuum cavities in liquid water. By themselves, these defects are very short lived. If, however, several cavities occur at close distances, they are likely to merge into larger vacuum holes. At the liquid-vapor interfaces, single or small groups of water molecules tend to leave the liquid surface. Once the system is propagated beyond the transition state, these evaporation events outnumber the competing reintegration into the hydrogen-bonded network. 相似文献
