Vacuum ultraviolet luminescence of Er3+ ions in LiYF4 and BaY2F8 crystals has been investigated. It is revealed that under excitation by 193 nm radiation from an ArF excimer laser the interconfigurational 5d–4f radiative transitions in Er3+ ions are observed. It is shown that from the LiYF4:Er crystal only the spin-forbidden luminescence (λ = 165 nm) is detected, whereas both the spin-forbidden (λ = 169 nm) and spin-allowed (λ = 160.5 nm) components are observed from the BaY2F8:Er crystal. 相似文献

We have grown crystals Na0.4Y0.6F2.2:Ho3+ (NYF:Ho3+) by the Bridgman-Stockbarger method. The optical spectra and luminescence kinetics of NYF:Ho3+ crystals have been studied. Based on the analysis of low-temperature absorption spectra, we determine the structure of the
Stark splitting of holmium levels in NYF:Ho3+ crystals. From absorption spectra examined at T = 300 K, we calculate absorption cross-section spectra and oscillator strengths of transitions from the ground state of holmium
to excited multiplets. We show that the absorption spectra of NYF:Ho3+ crystals consist of broad bands that lie in the UV, visible, and near-IR ranges. The most intense bands are observed in the
visible range, they correspond to transitions 5
I
8 → (5
F
1, 5
G
6) and 5
I
8 → (5
F
4, 5
S
2), and their maximal absorption cross sections are σabsmax (λ = 450.3 nm) = 1.16 × 10−20 cm2 and σabsmax (λ = 535.1 nm) = 0.9 × 10−20 cm2. The intensity parameters Ω
t
have been calculated by the Judd-Ofelt method taking into account 10, 12, and 20 transitions from the 5
I
8 ground state to excited multiplets. We show that, with an increasing number of transitions taken into account in the calculation,
the parameters Ω
t
somewhat increase. For 20 transitions, we have obtained the following intensity parameters: Ω2 = 0.97 × 10−20, Ω4 = 1.74 × 10−20, and Ω6 = 1.15 × 10−20 cm2. With these parameters, we have calculated the probabilities of radiative transitions, the radiative lifetimes, and the branching
ratios. The rates of multiphoton nonradiative transitions have been estimated. The luminescence decay kinetics from excited
holmium levels 5
F
3 (5
F
4, 5
S
2) and 5
F
5 have been studied upon selective excitation in the range of 490 nm, and the lifetimes of these levels have been experimentally
determined. We find that the calculated and experimental rates of radiative and nonradiative relaxation from excited holmium
levels agree well with each other. We show that, upon pumping in the range of 490 nm, the multiplet (5
F
4, 5
S
2) is populated as a result of the radiative and nonradiative excitation relaxation from the 5
F
3 level, while the lower-lying 5
F
5 level is populated due to direct radiative transitions 5
F
3, 2 → 5
F
5, obviating the cascade scheme 5
F
3 → (5
F
4, 5
S
2) ↝ 5
F
5. We conclude that NYF:Ho3+ crystals are processable; admit doping by holmium in high concentrations (up to 100%); and, with respect to all their radiative
characteristics, can be considered as potential active media for solid-state continuously tunable lasers in the IR and visible

The emission and excitation spectra of Gd2SiO5∶Eu3+ were investigated using the VUV beam line of the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF). The experimental results
were discussed in the frame of visible quantum cutting process involved in Gd3+−Eu3+ system. Upon direct excitation into the6G
J
states of Gd3+, two visible photon emissions from Eu3+ were observed. Cursory evaluation proved that Gd2SiO5∶Eu3+ is an efficient visible quantum cutter. 相似文献

Na0.4Y0.6F2.2:Er3+ (NYF:Er) crystals with an erbium concentration as high as 100 at. % (Na0.4Er0.6F2.2) were grown by the Bridgman-Stockbarger method. The optical spectra were investigated at low (6 K) and room temperatures. It is shown that the absorption spectrum of NYF:Er crystals contains wide bands (790–801 and 965–980 nm) corresponding to the emission range of laser diodes. The peak absorption cross section σa for the band peaked at λ=970.4 nm is 0.15×10?20 cm2. On the basis of the analysis of the absorption and luminescence spectra at low (6 and 12 K) temperatures, the structure of the Stark splitting of erbium levels was determined as a structure of quasi-centers for which Stark components are inhomogeneously broadened. The oscillator strengths of the transitions from the ground state of erbium to excited multiplets were calculated from the absorption spectra measured at T=300 K, and the intensity parameters Ωt were determined by the Judd-Ofelt method: Ω2=1.65×10?20 cm2, Ω4=0.56× 10?20 cm2, and Ω6=1.01×10?20 cm2. These values of the intensity parameters were used to calculate the probabilities of radiative transitions and the branching ratios. The rates of multiphonon nonradiative transitions in NYF: Er were estimated. The luminescence decay kinetics for radiative levels of erbium ions upon their selective excitation by nanosecond laser pulses was studied. The intracenter lifetimes of radiative levels of erbium ions were determined from the luminescence kinetics upon selective ion excitation by low-intensity light in a sample with a low erbium concentration (0.5%). It is demonstrated that, with an increase in temperature from 6 to 300 K, luminescence from the 4 G 11/2, 2 G(H)9/2, and 4 F 9/2 levels is quenched as a result of multiphonon nonradiative transitions. Luminescence from the 4 I 9/2 level is quenched only insignificantly with increasing temperature, and no quenching of luminescence from the 4 I 11/2 and 4 I 13/2 levels is observed. The spectra of steady-state luminescence of NYF:Er(0.5–15%) crystals were investigated upon broadband excitation by UV and UV-visible lamp light and selective time-resolved laser excitation. It is shown that low-lying levels of erbium ions separated by an energy gap smaller than 2500 cm?1 are populated via cascade mechanisms. On the basis of the results obtained, it is concluded that NYF:Er 3+ crystals are promising candidates for active media of tunable diode-pumped lasers. 相似文献

Na0.4Y0.6F2.2:Tm3+ crystals with a thulium content from 1 to 100 at % have been grown by the Stockbarger-Bridgman method. The optical spectra of Na0.4Y0.6F2.2:Tm3+ crystals were investigated in detail at room and low (10 K) temperatures, and the luminescence kinetics was analyzed using different excitation methods. The structure of the Stark splitting of thulium levels as “quasi-centers,” characterized by inhomogeneous broadening of the Stark components, is determined from analysis of the absorption spectrum at 10 K. The oscillator strengths of the transitions from the ground state to excited multiplets are determined from the absorption cross-section spectra at 300 K for ten transitions in the range 5000–38 500 cm?1 and seven transitions in the range 5000–28 500 cm?1. The transition intensity parameters Ω t , obtained by the Judd-Ofelt method from the spectra due to the transitions to ten and seven excited levels, were found to be, respectively, (i) Ω2 = 1.89 × 10?20, Ω4 = 2.16 × 10?20, and Ω6 = 1.40 × 10?20 cm2 and (ii) Ω2 = 2.04 × 10?20, Ω4 = 2.01 × 10?20, and Ω6 = 1.44 × 10?20 cm2. These values of the intensity parameters were used to calculate the radiative transition probabilities and branching ratios and to estimate the multiphonon nonradiative transition probabilities for NYF:Tm. The luminescence decay kinetics from thulium radiative levels upon their selective excitation by nanosecond laser pulses has been studied and the lifetimes of thulium radiative levels in NYF crystals have been found. 相似文献

Na0.4Y0.6F2.2:Er3+ (NYF:Er3+) crystals with an Er concentration up to 15% were grown by the Bridgman-Stockbarger method. The luminescence kinetics was investigated for a series of NYF:Er3+ crystals (0.5–15% Er), as well as the concentration and temperature quenching of the luminescence from radiative Er levels upon selective laser excitation. It is shown that the luminescence from the 4S3/2 level is quenched significantly with increasing temperature and concentration. The luminescence from the 4G11/2, 2G(H)9/2, 4F9/2, and 4I9/2 levels is quenched mainly due to nonradiative multiphonon transitions. The concentration quenching of the luminescence from the 4I11/2 and 4I13/2 levels was not observed. Possible schemes of the self-quenching of excited levels of erbium are considered and the microparameters and macrorates of self-quenching are estimated by model quantum-mechanical calculation. Based on the comparison of the calculated and experimental self-quenching rates, the most probable mechanisms and schemes of self-quenching are determined. The self-quenching of the 4S3/2 level of erbium was investigated experimentally and theoretically. Good agreement is obtained between the experimental and the calculated kinetic curves and the dependences of the self-quenching rates on Er concentration. It is concluded that NYF:Er3+ crystals are promising as active media for tunable lasers with laser diode pumping. 相似文献

Time-resolved excitation and emission spectra of SrF2: Er3+ upon selective excitation with synchrotron radiation in the VUV and ultrasoft x-ray ranges at T = 8 K were studied. The VUV luminescence of SrF2: Er3+ derives from high-energy interconfiguration 4f105d-4f11 transitions in the Er3+ ion. The VUV emission spectrum revealed, in addition to the 164.5-nm band (millisecond-range kinetics), a band at 146.4 nm (with a decay time of less than 600 ps). The formation of excitation spectra for the f-f and f-d transitions in the Er3+ ion is discussed. 相似文献

The results of the detailed scanning electron microscopy study of PrBa2Cu3O7-δ single crystals after the long-lasting high-temperature post-growth treatment are reported. The presence of the unstable
decomposition products on the crystal surface indicates that the onset of superconductivity must be related to the structural
transformations in the bulk (approximately 20% of the total volume of the examined crystals). The time-dependent character
of the superconductivity in the Pr-123 crystals could be attributed to the migration of defects in the Pr−Ba sublattice from

This paper reports on the spectroscopy properties, absorption and luminescence, of Cr3+ ions in singly doped, ZnO-codoped, and Zn in-diffused LiNbO3:Cr crystals. In addition to the broad absorption, inter-ionic transitions ascribed to Cr3+ ions located in Li+ and Nb5+ sites; [Cr]Li and [Cr]Nb centres two absorption bands at higher energy are reported and ascribed to the charge transfer transitions of the Cr3+ ions of the two defect centres.
The charge transfer transitions are used as optical probe to study the role of the Zn ions in the Zn in-diffused LiNbO3:Cr samples. It has been observed that the Zn-in-diffused processes created [Cr]Nb centres in the diffusion zone. The location of the diffused Zn2+ ions is considered to be in Li+ site, displacing the Cr3+ ions from the Li+ sites, [Cr]Li, to the Nb5+ positions, [Cr]Nb. 相似文献

On SrTiO3 single crystal substrate, by using the pulsed electron deposition technique, the high-quality electron doped Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4−δ
superconducting film was successfully fabricated. After careful study on the R-T curves of the obtained samples deposited with different substrate temperatures, thicknesses, annealing methods and pulse
frequencies, the effects of them on the superconductivity of the films were found, and the reasons were also analyzed. Additionally,
by using the same model of the pulsed laser deposition technique, the relation between the target-to-substrate distance and
the deposition pressure was drawn out as a quantitative one.

The exchange charge model of crystal field theory has been used to analyze the ground and excited state absorption of tetrahedrally coordinated Cr4+ ion in lithium aluminum oxide LiAlO2 (γ-phase) and lithium dioxogallate LiGaO2. The parameters of the crystal field acting on the Cr4+ ion are calculated from the crystal structure data, taking into account the crystal lattice ions located at distances up to 12.744 Å in LiGaO2 and 13. 180 Å in LiAlO2. The obtained energy level schemes were compared with experimental ground and excited state absorption spectra and literature data on the application of other crystal field models (the angular overlap model and Racah theory) to the considered crystals; a good agreement with experimental data is demonstrated. 相似文献

The up-converting ZrO2:Yb3+,Er3+ nanomaterials were prepared with the combustion and sol–gel methods. FT-IR spectroscopy was used for analyzing the impurities.
The crystal structures were characterized with X-ray powder diffraction and the mean crystallite sizes were estimated with
the Scherrer formula. Up-conversion luminescence measurements were made at room temperature with IR-laser excitation at 977 nm.
The IR spectra revealed the conventional and OH− impurities for the combustion synthesis products. The structure of the ZrO2:Yb3+, Er3+ nanomaterials was cubic except for the minor monoclinic and tetragonal impurities obtained with the sol–gel method. The materials
showed red (650–700 nm) and green (520–560 nm) up-conversion luminescence due to the 4F9/2→4I15/2 and (2H11/2, 4S3/2)→4I15/2 transitions of Er3+, respectively. The products obtained with the combustion synthesis exhibited the most intense luminescence intensity and

We present a comparative analysis on the growth, the spectroscopic features, and the cw laser action of room-temperature Yb(5%):LiYF4 (YLF) and Yb(10%):KYF4 (KYF) crystals. Optical slope efficiencies of 33% and 52% have been demonstrated for Yb:YLF and Yb:KYF crystals, respectively.

The effect of the sintering temperature of Ce3+-doped Lu3Al5O12 (Ce-LuAG) phosphors on the emission and properties of the crystal structure was studied. A cathodoluminescence peak at 317 nm, which was assigned to lattice defects, was exhibited in addition to emission peaks at 508 and 540 nm for the Ce-LuAG phosphors. The intensities of the 317 nm emission peak for the phosphors with mean particle diameters of 5.0 and 10.0 µm formed at a low sintering temperature of 1430 °C were higher than those for the phosphors with mean particle diameters of 18.0 and 20.5 µm formed at a high sintering temperature of 1550 °C. In contrast, the electroluminescence spectra for fabricated white-light-emitting diodes (LEDs) using the phosphors revealed that the intensity of the peak at 540 nm was strong for the mean particle diameters of 18.0 and 20.5 µm. The intensity of the 540 nm peak, which is attributed to the 4f→5d transition of the Ce3+ activator, showed a dependence on the sintering temperature. The relationship between the optical properties and the lattice defects is discussed. 相似文献

The behaviour of freely suspended smectic-C* ( SmC*) films at the bulk SmC*-cholesteric ( N*) phase transition has been investigated using polarized-reflected-light microscopy. Our experimental observations show that
above the bulk SmC*- N* phase transition the N* order appears in different ways according to the film thickness. In thin films, the conventional layer-by-layer thinning
occurs. In films of intermediate thickness N* inclusions nucleate inside the SmC* film. The distortions of the in-plane orientational order of the SmC* host phase induce elastic interactions between the inclusions and lead to their self-organization in chain-like structures.
Both the dynamic of the chaining and the parameters driving the equilibrium distance between the inclusions in the chain are
investigated. In thick films, N* fingers grow inside the film. The influence of the experimental conditions on the various processes is analysed.

We have studied the effect of doping with Eu2+ and Ce3+ ions on the photoluminescence (PL) of BaGa2Se4 crystals in the temperature range 77–300 K. We have established that the broad bands with maxima at wavelengths 456 nm and
506 nm observed in the photoluminescence spectra of BaGa2Se4:Ce3+ crystals are due to intracenter transitions 5d → 2F7/2 and 5d →2F5/2 of the Ce3+ ions, while the broad photoluminescence band with maximum at 521 nm in the spectrum of BaGa2Se4:Eu2+ is associated with 4f6 5d → 4f7 (8S7/2) transitions of the Eu2+ ion. We show that in BaGa2Se4:Eu2+,Ce3+ crystals, excitation energy is transferred from the Ce3+ ions to the Eu2+ ions. 相似文献

The Er3+-Yb3+ codoped Al2O3 nanoparticles with an average particle size of about 50 nm have been synthesized by an arc discharge synthesis method. The
green and red up-conversion emissions centered at about 526, 547 and 677 nm, corresponding respectively to the 2H11/2→4I15/2, 4S3/2→4I15/2 and 4F9/2→4I15/2 transitions of Er3+, were detected by a 978-nm semiconductor laser diode excitation. The Annealing has evident effect on the up-conversion emissions
of the samples: The red up-conversion emission is noticeable before annealing; however, the green up-conversion emission becomes
predominant after annealing. The mixture of (Er,Yb)3Al5O12 and α-(Al,Er,Yb)2O3 phases is more favorable for green up-conversion emissions due to an enhancement of the ESA (I) of 4I11/2+a photon→4F7/2 and ET (III) of 2F5/2(Yb3+)+4I11/2(Er3+)→2F7/2(Yb3+)+4F7/2(Er3+) processes. The two-photon absorption up-conversion process is involved in the green and red up-conversion emissions. The
results have proved that arc discharge synthesis is a new promising preparation technology for optical materials.
