ON VECTOR VALUED FUNCTION APPROXIMATION USING A PEAK NORM

A peak norm is defined for Lp spaces of E-valued Bochner integrable functions, where E is a Banach space, and best approximations from a sun to elements of the space are characterized. Applications are given to some families of simultaneous best approximation problems.

WEAK CHEBYSHEV SPACES ON LOCALLY ORDERED TOPOLOGY SPACE AND THE RELATED CONTINUOUS METRIC SELECTIONS

Let C(X)be the space of all continuous real-valued functions on a compact Hausdorffspace X under the uniform norm:‖f‖=max{|f(x)|:x∈X}.For G(?)C(X),defineP_G(f)={g∈G:‖f-g‖=inf{‖f-p‖:p∈G}}.If there exists a continuous mapping S from C(X)to G such that S(f)∈P_G(f)for everyf in C(X),then S is called a continuous selection of the metric projection P_G.And G is called a Z-subspace of C(X),if,for every nonzero g in G,g does not vanishon any open subset of X.In this paper,the author gives several characterizations of Z-subspaces G whose metricprojections P_G have continuous selections.The following results are obtained:If X is locally connected and G is an n-dimensional Z-subspace of C(X),then P_G hasa continuous selection if and only if every nonzero g in G has at most n zeros and has atmost n-1 zeros with sign changes.     

DIEUDONNÉ—KÖTHE DUALITY FOR VECTOR—VALUED FUNCTION SPACES: LOCALIZATION OF BOUNDED SETS AND BARRELLEDNESS

Abstract

We study Dieudonné-Köthe spaces of Lusin-measurable functions with values in a locally convex space. Let Λ be a solid locally convex lattice of scalar-valued measurable functions defined on a measure space Ω. If E is a locally convex space, define Λ {E} as the space of all Lusinmeasurable functions f: Ω → E such that q(f(·)) is a function in Λ for every continuous seminorm q on E. The space Λ {E} is topologized in a natural way and we study some aspects of the locally convex structure of A {E}; namely, bounded sets, completeness, duality and barrelledness. In particular, we focus on the important case when Λ and E are both either metrizable or (DF)-spaces and derive good permanence results for reflexivity when the density condition holds.     

PARACOMMUTATORS ON PRODUCT SPACES

The boundedness and the Schatten-von Neumann properties of paracommutators on product spaces are studied. They turn out to be characterized by the membership of their symbols in the BMO space and the Besov spaces on product spaces.

ON SPACES OF FRACTAL FUNCTIONS

In this paper we Ointroduce linear-spaces consisting of continuous functions whose graphs are the attactars of a special class of iterated function systems. We show that such spaces are finite dimensional and give the bases of these spaces in an implicit way. Given such a space, we discuss how to obtain a set of knots for whah the Lagrange interpolation problem by the space is uniquely solvable.     

BEURLING-DENY FORMULAE ON BANACH SPACES
