Abstract

The aim of this paper is to describe some “topological” subclasses of the class of all semi-topological functors. This is done by considering intersections of certain classes: on the one hand, the classes of all semi-topological functors, all topologically-algebraic functors and all regular functors; and on the other hand, the class of all discrete functors (see [6]). The relations between these and other classes of functors are given along with the necessary examples. Finally, the resulting intersections are described by giving representations of the functors that belong to them.  相似文献

Abstract

First a general Galois correspondence is established, which generalizes at the same time the correspondence between classes of monomorphisms and injective objects and the correspondence between classes of epimorphisms and monomorphisms in a category. This correspondence arises naturally if one tries to generalize some concepts of “topological” or also of “algebraic” functors. Both kinds of functors admit certain factorizations of cones, and just this fact implies some of their common nice properties: lifting limits, continuity and faithfulness, for instance. These properties can be shown without having a left adjoint. Therefore the theory yields also applications to functors which are neither “topological” nor “algebraic”.  相似文献

Abstract

The concept of a T-discrete object is a generalization of the notion of discrete spaces in concrete categories. In this paper. T-discrete objects are used to define discrete functors. Characterizations of discrete functors are given and their relation to other important functors are studied. A faithful functor T: AX is discrete iff the full subcategory B of A consisting of all T-discrete objects is (X-iso)-coreflective in A. It follows that the existence of bicoreflective subcategories is equivalent to the existence of suitable discrete functors. Finally, necessary and sufficient conditions are found such that for a given functor T: AX, the full subcategory B of A consisting of all T-discrete A-objects is monocoreflective in A.  相似文献

Initial cones are shown to be mono-cones for several important types of functors, namely those possessing a reducible generator or having a certain topological (1.7) resp. algebraic property (1.8). These results are useful for the computation of the universal initial completion of faithful, topologically algebraic functors, contain results of Börger-Tholen and Hoffmann for certain setbased functors as special cases and allow a complete characterization of the initial cones in quite a few categories.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, the relation between the notion of a discrete functor (see [4]) and the notion of a fine functor (see [1]) is examined. As a generalization of the notion of a F-fine object (see [1]), discrete functors T: AX are used to define K-fine objects, where K is a class of A-objects. It is shown that if T is in addition semi-topological, then (as for F-fine objects in a topological category, see [1]) the class of K-fine objects determines a bicoreflective subcategory of A. Moreover, it is shown that in co-complete, co-(well-powered) categories, the existence of bicoreflective subcategories is equivalent to the existence of functors that are both discrete and semi-topological.  相似文献

Abstract

A synthesis of notions arising from algebraic geometry, especially those developed by Verdier in Séminaire de Géométric Algébrique IV, and the notion of topological functor (in the sense of G.C.L. Brümmer and R.-E. Hoffmann) is made. In particular, Grothendieck topologies are shown to be topological over the category of categories with pullbacks and pullback preserving functors, and consequences derived.  相似文献

Abstract

Nets and graphs, both used in Computer Science, are studied from a categorical point of view. It is shown that they may be constructed via final completions of very simple small concrete categories and that their nice properties, namely to form topological categories which are quasitopoi with concrete powers such that products of final maps are final, depend on this fact. Furthermore, the relations between them can be described by means of adjoint functors.  相似文献

Abstract

Consider a commuting square of functors TV = GU where G is an algebraic functor over sets (in the sense of Herrlich), and T and U are (regular epi, monosource)—topological and fibre small. Such a square is called a Topological Algebraic Situation (TAS) when the following two conditions are satisfied:

  1. if h: UA → UB and g: VA → VB are morphisms with Gh = Tg, there exists a morphism f: A → B such that Uf = h and Vf = g;

  2. V carries U-initial monosources into T-initial mono-sources.

The functor V has many nice properties which shed light on the blending of the “topology” and “algebra”; e.g., V is a topologically algebraic functor in the sense of Y.H. Hong. An ([Etilde],[Mtilde]) version of O. Wyler's “Taut Lift Theorem” is used to show that the existence of a left adjoint to V is related to Condition (ii). It is also shown that certain topological algebraic reflections arise as Topological Algebraic Situations from algebraic and topological surjective reflections.  相似文献

Abstract

We study the transfer via functors between abelian categories of the (dual) relative splitness of objects with respect to a fully invariant short exact sequence. We mainly consider fully faithful functors and adjoint pairs of functors. We deduce applications to Grothendieck categories, (graded) module categories and comodule categories.  相似文献

Abstract

Let K: PT be a fixed functor. A criterion is given for a functor M': TV to be a (right) Kan extension along K of some functor M: PV. The functors M having a given M' as Kan extension are, in general, classified by continuous functors (V P)oV. We introduce a notion of system of imprimitivity, generalizing that of Mackey; when the shape category of K is codense in the systems of imprimitivity classify the functors H having M' as Kan extension. As a special case one obtains Mackey's Imprimitivity Theorem for finite groups.  相似文献

Abstract

We consider reflection functors in the category of nilpotent groups satisfying certain exactness properties for which the Mal'cev completion functor and the p-cotorsion completion functors are prototypical examples. Each of these functors defines a generalized torsion theory, which in turn defines a closure operator on subgroups. This gives rise to the notion of a categorically compact group with respect to the closure operator which we characterize. This approach provides a unified treatment for the categorically compact groups with respect to the Mal'cev completion and with respect to the p-cotorsion completion, the latter being new. We also consider the p-pro-finite completion, suitably restricted to obtain a reflection functor, and characterize the compact groups so arising.  相似文献

R.-E. Hoffmann [5,6] has introduced the notion of an (E,M)-universally topological functor, which provides a categorical characterization of the T0-separation axiom of general topology. In this paper, we characterise these functors in terms of the unique extension of structure functors defined on the subcategory of “separated” objects (of the domain category). This, in turn, leads to a solution of some problems due to G.C.L. Brümmer [1,2]. Other results include a generalization of L. Skula's characterization of the bireflective subcategories of Top [10].  相似文献

Abstract

It is shown that (concretely) Cartesian closed topological hulls can be characterized as injective hulls in a rather natural setting. The characterization of locale hulls as injective hulls in the category of (meet-) semilattices by Bruns & Lakser and Born & Kimura constitutes a special case.  相似文献

The fibration p of pointed objects of a category E is shown to have some classifying properties: it is additive if and only if E is naturally Mal'cev, it is unital if and only if E is Mal'cev. The category E is protomodular if and only if the change of base functors relative to p are conservative.  相似文献

Abstract

It is shown that the category CS of closure spaces is a topological category. For each epireflective subcategory A of a topological category X a functor F A :XX is defined and used to extend to the general case of topological categories some results given in [4], [5] and [10] for epireflective subcategories of the category Top of topological spaces.  相似文献

Abstract

For each adjoint functor U: A → X where X is an (?, M)-category having enough ?-projectives, we construct an (?, M)-algebraic hull E: (A, U) → (Â, Û), i.e., (Â, Û) is (epsiv; M)-algebraic and E has a certain denseness property. We show that there is a conglomerate of functors over X with respect to which the (? M)-algebraic categories are exactly the injective objects and characterize (? M)-algebraic hulls as injective hulls.  相似文献

We define notions of regularity and (Barr-)exactness for 2-categories. In fact, we define three notions of regularity and exactness, each based on one of the three canonical ways of factorising a functor in Cat: as (surjective on objects, injective on objects and fully faithful), as (bijective on objects, fully faithful), and as (bijective on objects and full, faithful). The correctness of our notions is justified using the theory of lex colimits [12] introduced by Lack and the second author. Along the way, we develop an abstract theory of regularity and exactness relative to a kernel–quotient factorisation, extending earlier work of Street and others  and .  相似文献

We study polynomial functors of degree 2, called quadratic, with values in the category of abelian groups Ab, and whose source category is an arbitrary category C with null object such that all objects are colimits of copies of a generating object E which is small and regular projective; this includes all categories of models V of a pointed theory T. More specifically, we are interested in such quadratic functors F from C to Ab which preserve filtered colimits and suitable coequalizers.A functorial equivalence is established between such functors F:CAb and certain minimal algebraic data which we call quadratic C-modules: these involve the values on E of the cross-effects of F and certain structure maps generalizing the second Hopf invariant and the Whitehead product.Applying this general result to the case where E is a cogroup these data take a particularly simple form. This application extends results of Baues and Pirashvili obtained for C being the category of groups or of modules over some ring; here quadratic C-modules are equivalent with abelian square groups or quadratic R-modules, respectively.  相似文献

To a B-coring and a (B,A)-bimodule that is finitely generated and projective as a right A-module an A-coring is associated. This new coring is termed a base ring extension of a coring by a module. We study how the properties of a bimodule such as separability and the Frobenius properties are reflected in the induced base ring extension coring. Any bimodule that is finitely generated and projective on one side, together with a map of corings over the same base ring, lead to the notion of a module-morphism, which extends the notion of a morphism of corings (over different base rings). A module-morphism of corings induces functors between the categories of comodules. These functors are termed pull-back and push-out functors, respectively, and thus relate categories of comodules of different corings. We study when the pull-back functor is fully faithful and when it is an equivalence. A generalised descent associated to a morphism of corings is introduced. We define a category of module-morphisms, and show that push-out functors are naturally isomorphic to each other if and only if the corresponding module-morphisms are mutually isomorphic. All these topics are studied within a unifying language of bicategories and the extensive use is made of interpretation of corings as comonads in the bicategory Bim of bimodules and module-morphisms as 1-cells in the associated bicategories of comonads in Bim.  相似文献
