The production of charged hadrons with high pT in αα collisions at √s=126 GeV and pp collisions at √s=31 and 63 GeV is compared, and the structure of the events associated with the high-pT particles is studied. The probability of finding associated particles close to the trigger particle increases strongly between √s=31 and 63 GeV for pp collisions. For pT>2.5GeV/c the αα/pp cross section ratio at the same energy per nucleon is measured to be 18.7 ± 2.0, to be compared with A2 = 16, and a higher associated multiplicity is observed for αα.  相似文献

Transverse-energy distributions have been measured for the collisions of the 32S nucleus with Al, Ag, W, Pt, Pb, and U target nuclei, at an incident energy of 200 GeV per nucleon. The shapes of these distribution reflect the geometry of the collisions, including the deformation effects. For central collisions, the transverse-energy production in the region −0.1<ηlab<2.9 increases approximately as A0.5, where A is the atomic mass number of the target. This increase is accompanied by a relative depletion in the forward region ηlab > 2.9. These results are compared with those obtained under similar conditions with incident 16O nuclei. A comparison is also made with the predictions of a Monte Carlo generator based on the dual parton model. Finally, we give estimates of the energy density reached and its dependence on the atomic mass number of the projectile.  相似文献

This is a continuation of our earlier investigation (Gurtuet al 1974Phys. Lett. 50 B 391) on multiparticle production in proton-nucleus collisions based on an exposure of emulsion stack to 200 GeV/c beam at the NAL. It is found that the ratioR em = 〈n s〉/〈n ch〉, where 〈n ch〉 is the charged particle multiplicity in pp-collisions, increases slowly from about 1 at 10 GeV/c to 1·6 at 68 GeV/c and attains a constant value of 1·71 ± 0·04 in the region 200 to 8000 GeV/c. Furthermore,R em = 1·71 implies an effectiveA-dependence ofR A =A 0.18,i.e., a very weak dependence. Predictions ofR em on various models are discussed and compared with the emulsion data. Data seem to favour models of hadron-nucleon collisions in which production of particles takes place through adouble step mechanism,e.g., diffractive excitation, hydrodynamical and energy flux cascade as opposed to models which envisage instantaneous production.  相似文献

Charged particle multiplicity distributions and pseudo-rapidity density distributions from16O induced nuclear collisions at 200 and 60A GeV are presented. The data were taken, using a minimumbias trigger, with the WA80 set-up at the CERN SPS. In this presentation we focus on how the yield of charged particles depends on the projectile energy, the mass number of the target nucleus and the energy measured in a uranium-plastic sampling calorimeter covering angles close to zero degrees. The data are compared to simulations from the event generator FRITIOF.  相似文献

The characteristic features of pseudorapidity distributions of hadron production are investigated in terms of a geometrical parameterh≡(dn/dη)0/Φ, Φ being the phase space covered by the η distribution. It is found thath is about the same for the heavy-ion (HI) andpp collisions at the same energy, the same for π andK production and behaves ashE cm ?1/3 . This similarity property yieldsK ??=0.041±0.004 andK +/K ?=4.5±0.6 for HI collisions at 14.6 GeV/A in agreement with BNL experiments.  相似文献

p spectra of negative particles were measured for p?W and16O?W collisions at 200 GeV/u in the rapidity range 0.9<y<1.9. Within the systematic errors of 20% the spectra are identical in the range 0.05<p <2.0 GeV/c. The p?W and16O?W spectra exhibit an exponential shape forp >250 MeV/c. This is consistent with previous p?A data, but there is a significant excess above this exponential at lowerp . Photon spectra were measured using a conversion method. Theirp distribution agrees in shape with the sum of known hadronic γ-sources.  相似文献

Intranuclear cascade, one of the most important non-linear effects in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions, is investigated, its influence on the target mass dependence of the distributions of final state particles is discussed. Using hydrodynamical model to treat non-linear effects, the main features of the rapidity distributions and their dependence on the target mass are naturally explained. The results of numerical calculation for16O-A central collisions at 60 and 200A GeV agree with the existing data.  相似文献

Corrected scaled-factorial-moments are calculated for the multiplicity distributions of shower particles in different phase spaces. An intermittency power-law is observed in the central collisions of32S and16O at 200A GeV,16O at 60A GeV and28Si at 14.5A GeV in nuclear emulsion.  相似文献

Experimental results on the multiplicity distributions of various particles produced in the interactions of 7Li with emulsion nuclei at a momentum of 3 GeV/c per projectile nucleon are reported. A comparison with data on collisions induced by other nuclei at a nearly identical momentum per nucleon is presented in order to reveal the dependence on the projectile mass. The internal structure of 7Li is explored by studying the projectile fragment. The mean multiplicity of shower particles, 〈n s〉, induced by 7Li is found to be less than that in the case of 6Li projectiles. The angular distributions of target fragments and relativistic charged secondaries are investigated. No shock-wave phenomena are observed. Forward-to-backward ratios are calculated for each case. The probability distributions for relativistic secondaries produced per unit rapidity are studied in detail, along with the rapidity densities and their dependence on the projectile and the target mass. A comparison of the angular spectra of shower particles produced in central and peripheral collisions supports the limiting-fragmentation hypothesis. The collisions in question seem to become more central with increasing shower-particle multiplicity.  相似文献

Target remnants withZ<3 from proton-nucleus and16O-nucleus reactions at 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon were measured in the angular range from 30° to 160° (?1.7<η<1.3) employing the Plastic Ball detector. The excitation energy of the target spectator matter in central oxygen-induced collisions is found to be high enough to allow for complete disintegration of the target nucleus into fragments withZ<3. The average longitudinal momentum transfer per proton to the target in central collisions is considerably higher in the case of16O-induced reactions (≈300 MeV/c) than in proton-induced reactions (≈130 MeV/c). The baryon rapidity distributions are roughly in agreement with one-fluid hydrodynamical calculations at 60 GeV/nucleon16O+Au but are in disagreement at 200 GeV/nucleon, indicating the higher degree of transparency at the higher bombarding energy. Both, the transverse momenta of target spectators and the entropy produced in the target fragmentation region are compared to those attained in head-on collisions of two heavy nuclei at Bevalac energies. They are found to be comparable or do even exceed the values for the participant matter at beam energies of about 1–2 GeV/nucleon.  相似文献

The unique design of the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider allows one to detect neutral and charged particles produced in high-energy collisions of heavy ions. This circumstance made it possible to measure many-particle decays of light mesons, such as K S 0 →π0π0, η→π0π?π+, and η→γγ in p + p, d + Au and Au + Au collisions at the energy \(\sqrt {S_{NN} }\) = 200 GeV. The latest results of measuring the differential production cross sections, ratios of particle yields (K S 0 0 and η/π0), and the nuclear modification factors (\(R_{dA}^{K_S }\), R dA η , R AA η ) in a wide range of transverse momenta (from 2 to 12 GeV s?1) are reported.  相似文献

We apply our microscopic model for the topological cross section σn to produce n charged particles in hadron-proton interactions to hadron-nucleus scattering. The model is based on a stochastic branching process for hadronization. We calculate multiplicity distributions of hadron-nucleus collisions for 50 GeV ? EL ? 400 GeV based on a multiple collision model. The production of “grey” (0.3 < νc < 0.7) particles is considered together with the shower (νc > 0.7) particles in order to test the model for higher number of collisions. The joint probability distribution of numbers of shower and grey particles F(ns, ng) is calculated. Finally, we critically compare the results to experimental data.  相似文献

Results based on calorimetric measurements are presented from reactions of 60A GeV and 200A GeV16O projectiles with C, Cu, Ag, and Au nuclei. Minimum-bias cross sections are discussed. Energy spectra measured at zero degrees and transverse-energy distributions for the pseudorapidity range 2.4≦η≤5.5 are shown. An analysis of the average transverse energy in terms of the number of participating nucleons and the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions is presented. Estimates of nuclear stopping and of attained energy densities are made.  相似文献

The statistical event-by-event analysis of inelastic interactions of 16O and 32S nuclei in emulsion at 60 A?GeV/c and 200 A?GeV/c reveals the existence of groups of high multiplicity events belonging to very central nuclear interactions with Gaussian pseudorapidity distributions for produced particles as suggested by the original hydrodynamic-tube model. Characteristics of these events are presented. The experimental observations are interpreted as a result of quark-gluon plasma formation in the course of central nuclear interactions.  相似文献

This paper presents the complete set of polarization angular coefficients A 0?7 describing lepton angular distributions in Z boson decay, which were measured at the ATLAS experiment in proton–proton collisions with the energy √s = 8 TeV. Theoretical values for the difference A 0 ? A 2 calculated in the fixed-order QCD perturbation theory O(α s 2 ), demonstrate significant deviation from the measured data, which indicates the necessity of taking into account higher order corrections. The evidence of nonzero coefficients A 5,6,7 was obtained for the first time, in accordance with theoretical calculations in O(α s 2 ) approximation. Measurement of the polarization angular coefficients A i is important for subsequent precision measurement of parameters of the electroweak model at the LHC, such as the sine of Weinberg electroweak mixing angle sin2 θ W and the W boson mass.  相似文献

Transverse single spin asymmetries A N are expected to be sensitive to par-ton polarization and orbital angular momentum contributions to the nucleon spin. Significantly large A N has been observed in different collision systems such as semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) and polarized proton-proton (pp) collisions, indicating a dominant contribution of partonic interactions in the non-perturbative regime. Therefore it’s critical to measure A N in various channels of polarized pp collisions in order to complement SIDIS data and to constrain theoretical models. We report STAR asymmetry measurements on mid-rapidity hadron-jet and di-hadron correlations at √s = 200 GeV and forward rapidity inclusive hadron production at √s = 500 GeV polarized pp collisions.  相似文献

Two-jet mass distributions have been measured as a function of centre-of-mass scattering angle for high-mass jet pairs produced in proton-antiproton collisions at the CERN collider operating at a centre-of-mass energy of 630 GeV. The agreement between QCD expectations and the experimental measurements has been used to place limits on the production cross section of an object X decaying into two jets. In particular we consider the existence of a massive colour octet of vector gauge bosons (axigluons). We exclude axigluons with a width ΛA < 0.4mA and a mass mA in the range 150 < mA < 310 GeV/c2 (95% CL).  相似文献

The pseudorapidity (η) distributions of fast particles (β>0.7) emitted in inelastic hadron interactions with carbon, copper and lead were measured for incoming energies from 50 to 150GeV at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. Their dependence on target mass (A) and projectile (h) obeys <v>-scaling as expected. Their energy dependence is in contrast with most model predictions.  相似文献
