n–electron valence state perturbation theory (NEVPT) is a form of multireference perturbation theory where all the zero-order wave functions are of multireference nature, being generated as eigenfunctions of a two–electron model Hamiltonian. The absence of intruder states makes NEVPT an interesting choice for the calculation of electronically excited states. Test calculations have been performed on several valence and Rydberg transitions for the formaldehyde and acetone molecules; the results are in good accordance with the best calculations and with the existing experimental data.Contribution to the Jacopo Tomasi Honorary Issue  相似文献

In this computational work, we assessed the performance of ab initio multireference (MR) methods for the calculation of vertical excitation energies of five nucleobases: adenine, guanine, cytosine, thymine and uracil. In total, we have studied 38 singlet and 30 triplet excited states. Where possible we used the multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) method as a reference for various flavors of multireference perturbation theory to second order. In particular, we have benchmarked CASPT2, NEVPT2 and XMCQDPT2. For CASPT2, we have analyzed the single‐state, multistate (MS) and extended MS variants. In addition, we have assessed the effect of the ionization potential electron affinity (IPEA) shift. For NEVPT2, we have used the partially and the strongly contracted variants. Further, we have tested the commonly used RI‐CC2, RI‐ADC2 and EOM‐CCSD methods. Generally, we observe the following trends for singlet excited states: NEVPT2 is the closest MR method to MRCISD+Q, closely followed by CASPT2 with the default IPEA shift. The same trend is observed for triplet states, although NEVPT2 and CASPT2‐IPEA are getting closer. Interestingly, the n, π* singlet excited states were described more accurately than π, π* excited states, while for triplet states the trend is inverted except for NEVPT2. This work is an important benchmark for future photochemical investigations.  相似文献

A modified version of a previously elaborated multiconfiguration perturbation theory (MCPT) [Rolik et al. J. Chem. Phys. 119, 1922 (2003)] is presented. In the modified formulation size consistency is ensured at second order in energy, by omitting projectors from the zero order Hamiltonian operator. This MCPT formulation is abbreviated as SC2-MCPT (size consistent at second order). To ensure proper separability, we also require that energy denominators are constructed as differences of some one-particle energies. A similar choice for energy denominators also renders the well-known multireference Moller-Plesset (MRMP) energy size consistent at second order. The same thing applies to the related multireference perturbation theory by Witek, Nakano, and Hirao.  相似文献

The second‐order multireference perturbation theory using an optimized partitioning, denoted as MROPT(2), is applied to calculations of various molecular properties—excitation energies, spectroscopic parameters, and potential energy curves—for five molecules: ethylene, butadiene, benzene, N2, and O2. The calculated results are compared with those obtained with second‐ and third‐order multireference perturbation theory using the traditional partitioning techniques. We also give results from computations using the multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) method. The presented results show very close resemblance between the new method and MRCI with renormalized Davidson correction. The accuracy of the new method is good and is comparable to that of second‐order multireference perturbation theory using Møller‐Plesset partitioning. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ab initio all‐electron computations have been carried out for Ce+ and CeF, including the electron correlation, scalar relativistic, and spin–orbit coupling effects in a quantitative manner. First, the n‐electron valence state second‐order multireference perturbation theory (NEVPT2) and spin–orbit configuration interaction (SOCI) based on the state‐averaged restricted active space multiconfigurational self‐consistent field (SA‐RASSCF) and state‐averaged complete active space multiconfigurational self‐consistent field (SA‐CASSCF) wavefunctions have been applied to evaluations of the low‐lying energy levels of Ce+ with [Xe]4f15d16s1 and [Xe]4f15d2 configurations, to test the accuracy of several all‐electron relativistic basis sets. It is shown that the mixing of quartet and doublet states is essential to reproduce the excitation energies. Then, SA‐RASSCF(CASSCF)/NEVPT2 + SOCI computations with the Sapporo(‐DKH3)‐2012‐QZP basis set were carried out to determine the energy levels of the low‐lying electronic states of CeF. The calculated excitation energies, bond length, and vibrational frequency are shown to be in good agreement with the available experimental data. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The energy levels of the 5f configuration of U(5+) and 5f(2) configuration of U(4+) have been calculated in a dressed effective Hamiltonian relativistic spin-orbit configuration interaction framework. Electron correlation is treated in the scalar relativistic scheme with either the multistate multireference second-order multiconfigurational perturbation theory (MS-CASPT2) or with the multireference single and double configuration interaction (MRCI) and its size-extensive Davidson corrected variant. The CASPT2 method yields relative energies which are lower than those obtained with the MRCI method, the differences being the largest for the highest state (1)S(0) of the 5f(2) manifold. Both valence correlation effects and spin-orbit polarization of the outer-core orbitals are shown to be important. The satisfactory agreement of the results with experiments and four-component correlated calculations illustrates the relevance of dressed spin-orbit configuration interaction methods for spectroscopy studies of heavy elements.

Summary It is proposed to use a norm of anth order effective Hamiltonian, for analyzing the convergence property of the multireference many-body perturbation theory (MR-MBPT). The utilization of the norm allows us to employ only (1) asingle number for all the states that we are interested in, and (2) values which decreases from thepositive side to zero as the ordern of the perturbation increases. This characteristic features are in contrast to those in the usually used scheme whereseveral numbers, namely, the eigenvalues of the target states, should be used and they mayoscillate around exact eigenvalues. The present method has been applied to MR-MBPT calculations of the (H2)2, CH2, and LiH molecules based on the multireference versions of Rayleigh-Schrödinger PT, Kirtman-Certain-Hirschfelder PT, and the canonical Van Vleck PT; and following features are found: (1) the above three versions of the perturbation theories have essentially the same convergence property judged from the lowering of the norm; (2) the lower order truncation of the perturbation series gives reasonable solutions; (3) the norm decreases irrespective of the perturbation expansion being convergent or divergent for the first several orders (up to about the sixth order).  相似文献

A unitary wave operator, exp (G), G(+) = -G, is considered to transform a multiconfigurational reference wave function Φ to the potentially exact, within basis set limit, wave function Ψ = exp (G)Φ. To obtain a useful approximation, the Hausdorff expansion of the similarity transformed effective Hamiltonian, exp (-G)Hexp (G), is truncated at second order and the excitation manifold is limited; an additional separate perturbation approximation can also be made. In the perturbation approximation, which we refer to as multireference unitary second-order perturbation theory (MRUPT2), the Hamiltonian operator in the highest order commutator is approximated by a Mo?ller-Plesset-type one-body zero-order Hamiltonian. If a complete active space self-consistent field wave function is used as reference, then the energy is invariant under orbital rotations within the inactive, active, and virtual orbital subspaces for both the second-order unitary coupled cluster method and its perturbative approximation. Furthermore, the redundancies of the excitation operators are addressed in a novel way, which is potentially more efficient compared to the usual full diagonalization of the metric of the excited configurations. Despite the loss of rigorous size-extensivity possibly due to the use of a variational approach rather than a projective one in the solution of the amplitudes, test calculations show that the size-extensivity errors are very small. Compared to other internally contracted multireference perturbation theories, MRUPT2 only needs reduced density matrices up to three-body even with a non-complete active space reference wave function when two-body excitations within the active orbital subspace are involved in the wave operator, exp (G). Both the coupled cluster and perturbation theory variants are amenable to large, incomplete model spaces. Applications to some widely studied model systems that can be problematic because of geometry dependent quasidegeneracy, H4, P4, and BeH(2), are performed in order to test the new methods on problems where full configuration interaction results are available.  相似文献

The reaction between ferrocenium and trimethylphosphine was studied using density functional theory (DFT), domain-based local pair natural orbital coupled cluster theory with single-, double-, and perturbative triple excitations (DLPNO-CCSD(T)), and N-electron valence state perturbation theory (NEVPT2). The accuracy of the DFT functionals decreases compared to the DLPNO-CCSD(T) level in the following order: M06-L > TPSS > M06, BLYP > PBE, PBE0, B3LYP > > PWPB95 > > DSD-BLYP. The roles of thermochemical, continuum solvation (SMD), and counterpoise corrections were evaluated. Grimme's D3 empirical dispersion correction is essential for all functionals studied except M06 and M06-L. The reliability of the frequency calculations performed directly within the SMD was confirmed. The systems showed no significant multireference character according to T1 and T2 diagnostics and the fractional occupation number (FOD) weighted electron density analysis. The multireference NEVPT2 calculations gave qualitatively valid conclusions about the reaction mechanism. However, a multireference approach is generally not recommended because it requires arbitrary chosen active spaces.  相似文献

The second‐order multireference perturbation theory employing multiple partitioning of the many‐electron Hamiltonian into a zero‐order part and a perturbation is formulated in terms of many‐body diagrams. The essential difference from the standard diagrammatic technique of Hose and Kaldor concerns the rules of evaluation of energy denominators which take into account the dependence of the Hamiltonian partitioning on the bra and ket determinantal vectors of a given matrix element, as well as the presence of several two‐particle terms in zero‐order operators. The novel formulation naturally gives rise to a “sum‐over‐orbital” procedure of correlation calculations on molecular electronic states, particularly efficient in treating the problems with large number of correlated electrons and extensive one‐electron bases. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Tests have been made to benchmark and assess the relative accuracies of low-order multireference perturbation theories as compared to coupled cluster (CC) and full configuration interaction (FCI) methods. Test calculations include the ground and some excited states of the Be, H(2), BeH(2), CH(2), and SiH(2) systems. Comparisons with FCI and CC calculations show that in most cases the effective valence shell Hamiltonian (H(v)) method is more accurate than other low-order multireference perturbation theories, although none of the perturbative methods is as accurate as the CC approximations. We also briefly discuss some of the basic differences among the multireference perturbation theories considered in this work.  相似文献

In this work, an implementation of an approach to calculate the zero-field splitting (ZFS) constants in the framework of ab initio methods such as complete active space self-consistent field, multireference configuration interaction, or spectroscopy oriented configuration interaction is reported. The spin-orbit coupling (SOC) contribution to ZFSs is computed using an accurate multicenter mean-field approximation for the Breit-Pauli Hamiltonian. The SOC parts of ZFS constants are obtained directly after diagonalization of the SOC operator in the basis of a preselected number of roots of the spin-free Hamiltonian. This corresponds to an infinite order treatment of the SOC in terms of perturbation theory. The spin-spin (SS) part is presently estimated in a mean-field fashion and appears to yield results close to the more complete treatments available in the literature. Test calculations for the first- and second-row atoms as well as first-row transition metal atoms and a set of diatomic molecules show accurate results for the SOC part of ZFSs. SS contributions have been found to be relatively small but not negligible (exceeding 1 cm(-1) for oxygen molecule). At least for the systems studied in this work, it is demonstrated that the presented method provides much more accurate estimations for the SOC part of ZFS constants than the emerging density functional theory approaches.  相似文献

Results are reported from calculations of electric dipole transition moments for various electronic transitions in Be, CH2, and A1H using multireference singles and doubles configuration interaction, quasi-degenerate variational perturbation theory, and multireference averaged coupled pair functional theory. A simple normalization scheme is used for the quasi-degenerate variational perturbation theory and multireference averaged coupled pair functional theory wave functions. In all cases, comparison is made with full configuration interaction results in the valence space. For Be and CH2, all methods are of comparable quality in calculating the transition moments and excitation energies, with averaged coupled-pair functional theory yielding slightly quicker convergence of the excitation energies and transition moments in most cases. For AlH, multireference singles and doubles configuration interaction is somewhat more accurate for the calculation of the transition moment. Factors that affect the accuracy of the methods are discussed. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The geometries, the harmonic vibrational frequencies, and the Renner-Teller parameter have been reported for the NCO(+)(X (3)Sigma(-)), NCO(X (2)Pi,A (2)Sigma(+),B (2)Pi,2 (2)Sigma(+)), NCO(-)(X (1)Sigma(+)), CNO(+)(X), CNO(X (2)Pi,A (2)Sigma(+),B (2)Pi,2 (2)Sigma(+)), and CNO(-)(X (1)Sigma(+)) systems at the full valence-complete active space self-consistent-field (fv-CASSCF) level of theory. The (2)Pi electronic states of the NCO and CNO radicals have two distinct real vibrational frequencies for the bending modes and these states are subject to the type A Renner-Teller effect. The total energy of CNO(+) without zero point energy correction of the linear geometry is approximately 31 cm(-1) higher than the bent geometry at the fv-CASSCF level and the inversion barrier vanishes after the zero point energy correction; therefore, the ground state of the CNO(+) may possess a quasilinear geometry. The spin-orbit coupling constants estimated using atomic mean field Hamiltonian at the fv-CASSCF level of theory are in better agreement with the experimental values. The excitation energies, the electron affinity, and the ionization potential have been computed at the complete active space second order perturbation theory (CASPT2) and the multireference singles and doubles configuration (MRSD-CI) levels of theory. The computed values of the electric hyperfine coupling constants for the (14)N atom in the ground state of the NCO radical agree well with the experimental data. The magnetic hyperfine coupling constants (HFCC's) have been estimated employing the configuration selected MRSD-CI and the multireference singles configuration interaction (MRS-CI) methods using iterative natural orbitals (ino) as one particle basis. Sufficiently accurate value of the isotropic contribution to the HFCC's can be obtained using an MRS-CI-ino procedure.  相似文献

Discovery of the HArF molecule associated with H?Ar covalent bonding [Nature, 2000 , 406, 874–876] has revolutionized the field of noble gas chemistry. In general, this class of noble gas compound involving conventional chemical bonds exists as closed‐shell species in a singlet electronic state. For the first time, in a bid to predict neutral noble gas chemical compounds in their triplet electronic state, we have carried out a systematic investigation of xenon inserted FN and FP species by using quantum chemical calculations with density functional theory and various post‐Hartree–Fock‐based correlated methods, including the multireference configuration interaction technique. The FXeP and FXeN species are predicted to be stable by all the computational methods employed in the present work, such as density functional theory (DFT), second‐order Møller–Plesset perturbation theory (MP2), coupled‐cluster theory (CCSD(T)), and multireference configuration interaction (MRCI). For the purpose of comparison we have also included the Kr‐inserted compounds of FN and FP species. Geometrical parameters, dissociation energies, transition‐state barrier heights, atomic charge distributions, vibrational frequency data, and atoms‐in‐molecules properties clearly indicate that it is possible to experimentally realize the most stable state of FXeP and FXeN molecules, which is triplet in nature, through the matrix isolation technique under cryogenic conditions.  相似文献

Employing separate cluster ansatz in time-independent and time-dependent wave-operators, coupled-cluster (CC) response theory is generalized to multireference (MR) expansion spaces. For state energies, this corresponds to the MR secular problem with an arbitrary similarity-transformed effective Hamiltonian, H˜=Ω−1 HΩ. The effective Hamiltonian can be generated via size-extensive CC methods. Thus the states in MR linear response theory (MRLRT) maintain the usual CC core-extensive properties. We have used the Gelfand unitary group basis of the spin-adapted configurations to construct the matrix of H˜ in the MR excitation space. As a preliminary application, the CC singles and doubles effective Hamiltonian is applied to excitation and photoionization energies of the CH+ and N2 molecules, and is compared with experimental results and results from other numerical procedures including conventional CC linear response theory (CC-LRT), MR and full configuration interaction (MRCI and FCI) methods. The numerical results indicate that MRLRT reproduces valence and external excited states quantitatively, combining the best features of CC-LRT and MRCI. The relativistic ground and low-lying excited state potential energy curves of AgH and AuH in the presence of a cylindrical harmonic confining potential were calculated using the multi-state multi-reference perturbation theory with the spin-free no-pair Hamiltonian obtained via the third-order Douglas–Kroll transformation, incorporated with the full two-electron Breit–Pauli spin–orbit operator. The spectroscopic parameters were obtained for both the scalar- and quasi-relativistic potentials. The spin–orbit coupling constants were calculated for several strengths of the confining potential, and the effects of the applied potential on the coupling constants were analyzed using configuration interaction.
