Measure h/e2 by counting electrons or ions in a storage ring

Storage rings offer the possibility of realizing a current by counting the electrons or ions per second passing through a toroidal SQUID current comparator. This technique offers the possibility of accurately measuring the quantity h/e² and providing a stringent test of the quantum Hall effect.     

Phase drift and temperature-induced ordering of h/e oscillations in a small ring interferometer

Continuous phase drift and thermal ordering of the Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in a small ring interferometer have been revealed by numerical calculation of the conductance. It has been found that the sign and rate of change in the oscillation amplitude with increasing temperature depend on the Fermi energy. The calculation results have been compared with the experimental data for the same sample.

The line-reversal method for determination of vibrational temperatures of molecules in their ground states has been applied to nonequilibrium, low-pressure plasmas. The feasibility of employing low-resolution apparatus is demonstrated. The method was used for measurements on a series of vibrational-rotational transitions with allomance for anharmonicities. The apparatus is described; measurements were carried out in disharges representative of CO₂-lasers. The accuracy of measurement is discussed.     

Search for rare and forbidden decays D+ --> h+/- e+/- e+

Using 0.8 x 10(6) D+ D- pairs collected with the CLEO-c detector at the psi(3770) resonance, we have searched for flavor-changing neutral current and lepton-number-violating decays of D+ mesons to final states with dielectrons. We find no indication of either, obtaining 90% confidence level upper limits of B(D+ --> pi+ e+ e-) < 7.4 x 10(-6), B(D+ --> pi- e+ d+) < 3.6 x 10(-6), B(D+ --> K+ e+ e-) < 6.2 x 10(-6), and B(D+ --> K- e+ e+) < 4.5 x 10(-6).

A method is proposed for determining the energy difference of noncombining electronic states and the type of ground electronic state of molecules, based on studying the temperature dependence of integral absorption coefficients of molecular bands in a reflected shock wave plasma over a wide range of temperatures. The method is used to determine the relative position of singlet and triplet ZrO electronic states. As the result of measurements of integral absorption coefficients of 0, 0 bands of ${}^1\text{Σ}{}^{\mathrm{+}}\text{-}{}^1\text{Σ}{}^{\mathrm{+}}$ and ${}^3\text{Δ -}{}^3\text{Δ}$ systems in the temperature interval 3370–5200°K, it is shown that ¹Σ⁺ state is the ZrO ground state, whilst T₀(a³Δ) = 1700 ± 250 cm^-1.     

g-factors of 2.7 h 93Tc, 4.9 h 94Tc and 20 h 95Tc

The hyperfine splitting frequencies gμ_NB_H.F./h of 2.7 h ⁹³Tc $\text{(J}{}^{\mathrm{\pi }}\text{=}\text{9}\text{2}{}^{\mathrm{+}}\text{)}$, 4.9 h ⁹⁴Tc (J^π = 7⁺) and 20 h ⁹⁵Tc $\text{(J}{}^{\mathrm{\pi }}\text{=}\text{9}\text{2}{}^{\mathrm{+}}\text{)}$ as dilute impurities in Fe have been measured with NMR on oriented nuclei as 336.36(5) MHz, 175.11(1) MHz and 315.97(2) MHz, respectively. From the resonance shifts with an external magnetic field B₀ the hyperfine field of Tc$\text{Fe}$ has been determined as -317(5) kG. Taking this into account the nuclear g-factors are deduced as $\text{g(}{}^{93}\text{Tc}\text{) = 1.392(22), g(}{}^{94}\text{Tc}\text{) = 0.725(11)}\text{and}\text{g(}{}^{95}\text{Tc}\text{) = 1.308(21)}$.     

Ground-state properties of 3h 184Ir and 14h 185Ir

The ground-state spectroscopic quadrupole moments of ${}^{184}\text{Ir [J}{}^{\mathrm{\pi }}\text{=(5}{}^{\mathrm{\pm }}\text{);t}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>1</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}\text{=3.00]}$ and ${}^{185}\text{Ir (J}{}^{\mathrm{\pi }}\text{=}\text{5}\text{2}{}^{\mathrm{?}}\text{;t}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>1</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}\text{= 14}\text{h}\text{)}$ have been determined by nuclear orientation as +2.2(4) b and ?2.03(3) b, respectively. The negative QM of ¹⁸⁵Ir can be explained only by a $\text{J}{}^{\mathrm{\pi }}\text{K=}\text{5}\text{2}{}^{\mathrm{?}}\text{1}\text{2}$ ground-state configuration. The positive QM of ¹⁸⁴Ir implies K ? 4 in contradiction to expectations of K=0, 1 in analogy to ¹⁸⁶Ir.     

Interaction strength and shape difference for the h9/2 and h11/2 configurations in163Tm

The strongly shape driving πh_9/2[541]l/2^? configuration with α=+1/2 exhibits some anomalous, and so far unexplained, features concerning the crossing frequency, ?ω_c, the aligned angular momentum, i_x, and interaction strength, at the alignment of the first pair of i_13/2 quasineutrons in several odd-Z rare earth-nuclei. The h_9/2[541]1/2^? and h_11/2[523]7/2^? bands have been studied in the stably deformed rare-earth nucleus¹⁶³Tm to investigate these features. A difference in band crossing frequency of ～ 80 keV between the two bands is found. Rotational bands built on these two configurations have been found to cross in the spin range I=25/2–29/2 ?. Theγ-decay pattern between the two bands is established in the crossing region and analysed in terms of a moderate shape difference between them. A theoretical estimate of the size of the interaction strength between the two bands is presented and compared to the experimental value. The observed band structure in¹⁶³Tm is very similar to that of¹⁶⁷Lu which has 2 protons and 2 neutrons in addition. This observation is discussed in relation to the similarity of the yrast bands of the two even-even “core” nuclei¹⁶²Er and¹⁶⁶Yb, for which theγ-transition energies are identical within ～0.2 keV below the vi_13/2 crossing.     

6Li(e,e′α) and (e,e′d) reactions

The correlation cross sections for the quasifree scattering in the ⁶Li(e,e′α) and (e,e′d) reactions are calculated in the microscopic model. The internal momentum distributions of clustering particles play an important role for explaining experimental data.

The 6Li(e,e′α) and 6Li(e,e′d) reactions at 520 MeV

The reactions ⁶Li(e,e′α) and ⁶Li(e,e′d) have been studied at T₀ ≈ 520 MeV and q ≈ 1.4 fm^?1, by coincidence measurements. The angular dependence of the cross sections is interpreted in the plane wave impulse approximation to obtain the momentum distribution of α-particle and deuteron clusters in ⁶Li. The amount of clustering of ⁶Li is also discussed.     

Radiative corrections toe + e −→Zh 0 andZ→γh 0 in the minimal supersymmetric theory

The Higgs sector of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) becomes phenomenologically hard to distinguish from the standard model (SM) in the limit that the CP-odd scalar,A ⁰, is much heavier than theZ boson. If, in addition, all the superpartners lie outside the kinematic reach of present-day (or near-future) colliders the only experimental evidence for supersymmetry (SUSY) might be through internal loops involving superpartners. We have calculated sfermion-induced radiative corrections toe ⁺ e ^?→Zh ⁰ andZ→γh ⁰ in the MSSM, which are enhanced for highm _t .
