Nuclear physics experiments with ion traps started at the on-line separator ISOLDE/CERN, Geneva, with the installation of the tandem Penning trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP. With this device the massM of a stored ion is determined by measuring its cyclotron frequency c=(q/M)B in a magnetic fieldB. Mass measurements with a resolving powerR=c/c(FWHM)1×106 and accuracies of M/M10–7 were performed on more than sixty unstable isotopes of the elements Rb, Sr, Cs, Ba, Fr, and Ra.  相似文献

We give a simplified construction of twist eating configurations, based on a theorem due to Frobenius. These configurations are defined through the equation:U U U + U + =exp(2in /N) withU SU(N), =1 tod andn an antisymmetric matrix with integer entries. In the (Twisted)-Eguchi-Kawai model they yield extrema some of which survive forN. Comparison is made with the Monte Carlo data of the internal energy in the small coupling region.  相似文献

The process of the propagation of excitation energy in perturbed dielectric crystals with a weak bond between the atoms having zero permanent dipole moment is studied. It is shown that on certain assumptions this process of propagation can be regarded as the motion of a Frenkel exciton in the electrostatic field of the defect. Frenkel's exciton can be characterized in this case as a neutral polarizable particle having induced dipole moment equal to the change in the induced dipole moment of the crystal during the excitation of one of its atoms.

The interaction of foils lying in a plane during their activation by thermal neutrons has been calculated. Numerical values of functions are listed, which can be used in calculations, especially for graphite. The interaction was measured in the graphite column of the VVR-S reactor.

Evolution of incoherent matter distributions with cylindrical, pseudoplanar, and toroidal symmetries is considered. The system is described in terms of the scale factora (R, T) and the anisotropy factor (R, T) of the (x2, x3 surfaces. A number of exact solutions is obtained under the assumptions=(a), =(R), and=(T) and their physical properties are breifly discussed. In particular, the solution with=(T) is noncollapsing and describes a matter distribution with unchanging density.  相似文献

Luminescence of AgCl crystals
The luminescence of normal and deformed single crystals of AgCl of different thickness was measured at a temperature of –180°C. With deformed samples the decrease in intensity of the luminescence was measured. On the luminescence band of the above crystals we observed a fine structure for which the series rule could be used (edge of series =4640 Å, =5080 Å).The observed luminescence was explained by means of the exciton mechanism proposed by Matyá, i.e. annihilation of a localized exciton either on a cation vacancy or on a cation vacancy on a dislocation jog. The luminescence yield at –183°C, =1.6×10–3%±10%, was measured by a photographic method.

Zusammenfassung Es werden die Ergebnisse der Messungen der Koerzitivkraft von Eisen, Nickel und einiger Fe-Ni-Legierungen in Abhängigkeit von der plastischen Verformung durch Kaltwalzen angegeben. Gemessen wurde in Richtung parallel und senkrecht zur Walzrichtung. Die Ergebnisse werden insbesondere vom Gesichtspunkt des Einflusses der Versetzungen und der einachsigen induzierten Anisotropie diskutiert.

We investigate the structure of scaling solutions of Smoluchowski's coagulation equation, of the formc k (t)s(t) (k/s(t)), wherec k (t) is the concentration of clusters of sizek at timet,s(t) is the average cluster size, and(x) is a scaling function. For the rate constantK(i, j) in Smoluchowski's equation, we make the very general assumption thatK(i, j) is a homogeneous function of the cluster sizesi andj:K(i,j)=a K(ai,aj) for alla>0, but we restrict ourselves to kernels satisfyingK(i, j)/j0 asj. We show that gelation occurs if>1, and does not occur if1. For all gelling and nongelling models, we calculate the time dependence ofs(t), and we derive an equation for(x). We present a detailed analysis of the behavior of(x) at large and small values ofx. For all models, we find exponential large-x behavior: (x)A x e x asx and, for different kernelsK(i, j), algebraic or exponential small-x behavior: (x)Bx or (x)=exp(–Cx –|| + ...) asx0.  相似文献

The classical non-linear Schrödinger equation associated with a symmetric Lie algebra =km is known to possess a class of conserved quantities which from a realization of the algebrak []. The construction is now extended to provide a realization of the Kac-Moody algebrak[, –1] (with central extension). One can then define auxiliary quantities to obtain the full algebra [, –1]. Experimental-computational spectra of the permittivity and characteristic losses –Im–1 for energies in the range 5–21 eV at a temperature of 4.2 K and theoretical spectra of and –Im–1 of a fluorite crystal are resolved into elementary transition bands. The parameters of transition bands (energies of their maxima E i, band halfwidths H i and areas S i, and oscillator forces f i) are determined. A correlation of the spectral bands of and –Im–1is established, and their specific features are elucidated.  相似文献

The paper gives the results of measuring ferromagnetic resonance on thin cobalt films, vacuum deposited on unheated glass slides. The values of the (g-factor, the width of the curve, the effective stress and uniaxial induced anisotropy were determined as a function of the thickness of the film from measurements of the ferromagnetic absorption in a magnetic field normal and parallel to the surface of the film. Measurements were carried out on a frequency of 9200 MHz and on film thicknesses of 180 to 1800 Å. A qualitative explanation of the observed dependences is given.

We simulate the classical diffusion of a particle of massM in an infinite one-dimensional system of hard point particles of massm in equilibrium. Each computer run corresponds to about 108 collisions of the diffusive particle. We find that (t) 1/t fort large enough, and a crossover from an M m regime where=2 to=3 forM=m. The diffusion constant has a sharp maximum atM=m. We study moments x(t)2 and x(t)4, and examine the behavior ofq 2 (t)=x(t)4/3x(t)22. We find thatq(t)1 (consistent with a normal distribution) in theM limit (for all timest) and in the t limit for allM. The dispersion of the third-order electric susceptibilities(; , , –) and(; , 0, 0) of NaCl and KCl monocrystals has been calculated by means of experimental data on the electro-optic Kerr effect. The result has been obtained by using semi-classical models of anharmonic oscillators. An ionic contribution to the electro-optic coefficients has been presented. From the result obtained it follows that the third-order electric susceptibilities are of the order of 10–22 m2 V–2.  相似文献

From the viewpoint of critical stability, we discuss the three- and four-body structure of 6He, 7He, 4He, and 4H. With the + + N three-body model, 6He is found to have a three-layer structure of the matter distribution: core, a skin and neutron halo. Also the level structure of 7He with the three-body model of 5He + n + n is predicted. This stimulates a new study of neutron-rich and proton-rich hypernuclei. By performing a four-body calculation with both NNN and NNN channels and with both NN and NNN channels, we show that the N-N and -N couplings are very important in critical stability of few-body hypernuclear systems.  相似文献
