The interactions between coherent beams launched near the interface of one-dimensional semi-infinite Kerr-type nonlinear waveguide arrays have been theoretically investigated. We have explored the effect of the input intensities, the relative phase of the optical beams, and the modulation of the refractive index of the optical lattices on nonlinear beam interaction dynamics. For in-phase beams with different incident intensities, the highly-localized spatial soliton was dragged in a discrete fashion by a low-intensity diffracting beam. Anomalous fusion of two out-of-phase beams, and energy exchange between the excited channels were observed at high intensities. The possibility of employing nonlinear interactions for optical signal re-addressing, all-optical switching is also discussed.  相似文献

In this work we study the joint transform correlator (JTC) optical encryption setup through the Wigner function. We found analytical expressions for the spatial and spatial frequency extent of the encrypted signal. Since the JTC is inherently an asymmetrical optical system, different expressions were found for each spatial axis and for their associated spatial frequency axes. We also compare these results with the dual random phase encoding technique. Finally, we found an analytical expression for the minimum separation between channels that avoids crosstalk in a wavelength multiplexing JTC architecture.  相似文献

Physics of counterpropagating optical beams and spatial optical solitons is reviewed, including the formation of stationary states and spatiotemporal instabilities. First, several models describing the evolution and interactions between optical beams and spatial solitons are discussed, that propagate in opposite directions in nonlinear media. It is shown that coherent collisions between counterpropagating beams give rise to an interesting focusing mechanism resulting from the interference between the beams, and that interactions between such beams are insensitive to the relative phase between them. Second, recent experimental observations of the counterpropagation effects and instabilities in waveguides and bulk geometries, as well as in one‐ and two‐dimensional photonic lattices are discussed. A variety of different generalizations of this concept are summarized, including the counterpropagating beams of complex structures, such as multipole beams and optical vortices, as well as the beams in different media, such as photorefractive materials and liquid crystals.

We demonstrate an approach for easy fabrication of two- and three-dimensional optically induced nonlinear photonic lattices microstructures in photorefractive crystal by applying spatial filter and amplitude mask. The experimental setup of this method is very simple and flexible without complicated optical adjustment system. It can be applied in almost any optical laboratories. Two-dimensional hexagonal, square and three-dimensional hexagonal nonlinear photonic lattices microstructures have been produced in an iron-doped lithium niobate photorefractive crystal. The period of the induced photonic lattices microstructures can be dominated easily. This method is easily extended to generate more complex photonic lattices microstructures in photorefractive crystals, such as quasicrystal lattice.  相似文献

We have shown that the application of modulating the secondary lattice is an efficient route to suppressing the generation of chaotic traveling waves of a Bose-Einstein Condensate with attractive interatomic interaction loaded into a moving optical superlattiee consisting of two lattices. With the Melnikov method, we obtain the optimal value of the relative phase between the two lattice harmonics for the control of chaos. We also find that the regularization route as the potential depth of the secondary lattice is varied and fairly rich, including the period-doubling bifurcations.  相似文献

We demonstrate the excellent spectral properties of a diode laser setup that combines good tunability with superb short-term frequency stability and controllability. It is based on merging two concepts, the diode laser with resonant optical feedback and the grating stabilized diode laser. To characterize the short-term performance we beat two essentially identical diode lasers and find a short-term linewidth of ~11 kHz. Phase locking between these lasers is achieved with a servo bandwidth as small as 46 kHz, although an analog phase detector is used that requires subradian residual phase error. Despite small phase error detection range and small servo bandwidth, cycle-slip-free phase locking is accomplished for typically many 10 min, and the optical power is essentially contained in a spectral window of less than 20 mHz relative to the optical reference. Due to the excellent performance this laser concept is well suited for atomic or molecular coherence experiments, which require phase locking of different lasers to each other, and as part of a flywheel for optical clocks.  相似文献

We present a novel phase with an entangled double-helix structure. Beams with this phase have the same transverse patterns as those of interference between two doughnut beams. This proposed method allows a complete set of the superpositions of the doughnut modes or the orbital angular momentum states with different topological orders to be obtained. Furthermore, it introduces a simple continuous and controlled rotation of the transverse patterns by use of a spatial light modulator. It can be used to form a three-dimensional structure by three-dimensional trapping in an optical tweezers setup or to study the quantum characteristics of an optical vortex.  相似文献

We present a novel single-step fabrication approach, based on optical phase engineering, for tunable complex photonic chiral lattices of diverse geometries in a large area. By means of engineered reconfigurable phase patterns, we computationally simulate as well as experimentally investigate these complex structures. We show the generation of both periodic right- and left-handed chiral structures as well as photonic transversely quasi-crystallographic chiral structures. These complex chiral lattices are also demonstrated in a photorefractive material, and the lattice formation is analyzed by plane-wave-guided imaging as well as diffraction pattern imaging. Furthermore, complex photonic chiral structures with engineered tunable relative phase shifts between adjacent spiral units realizable in a single step are explored and analyzed.  相似文献

We review our recent theoretical advances in phase transition of cold atoms in optical lattices, such as triangular lattice, honeycomb lattice, and Kagomé lattice. By employing the new developed numerical methods called dynamical cluster approximation and cellular dynamical mean-field theory, the properties in different phases of cold atoms in optical lattices are studied, such as density of states, Fermi surface and double occupancy. On triangular lattice, a reentrant behavior of phase translation line between Fermi liquid state and pseudogap state is found due to the Kondo effect. We find the system undergoes a second order Mott transition from a metallic state into a Mott insulator state on honeycomb lattice and triangular Kagomé lattice. The stability of quantum spin Hall phase towards interaction on honeycomb lattice with spin-orbital coupling is systematically discussed. And we investigate the transition from quantum spin Hall insulator to normal insulator in Kagomé lattice which includes a nearest-neighbor intrinsic spin-orbit coupling and a trimerized Hamiltonian. In addition, we propose the experimental protocols to observe these phase transition of cold atoms in optical lattices.  相似文献

Cold atom optical lattices typically simulate zero-range Hubbard models. We discuss the theoretical possibility of using excited states of optical lattices to generate extended range Hubbard models. We find that bosons confined to higher bands of optical lattices allow for a rich phase diagram, including the supersolid phase. Using Gutzwiller, mean-field theory we establish the parameter regime necessary to maintain metastable states generated by an extended Bose-Hubbard model.  相似文献

Topological physics in optical lattices have attracted much attention in recent years. The nonlinear effects on such optical systems remain well-explored and a large amount of progress has been achieved. In this paper, under the mean-field approximation for a nonlinearly optical coupled boson–hexagonal lattice system, we calculate the nonlinear Dirac cone and discuss its dependence on the parameters of the system. Due to the special structure of the cone, the Berry phase (two-dimensional Zak phase) acquired around these Dirac cones is quantized, and the critical value can be modulated by interactions between different lattices sites. We numerically calculate the overall Aharonov-Bohm (AB) phase and find that it is also quantized, which provides a possible topological number by which we can characterize the quantum phases. Furthermore, we find that topological phase transition occurs when the band gap closes at the nonlinear Dirac points. This is different from linear systems, in which the transition happens when the band gap closes and reopens at the Dirac points.  相似文献

We propose real time phase measurements in liquid crystals cells using Young's interferometer constructed with a new principle with possibility to control the distance between two point sources. The optical interference optical pattern is detected by a bicell photo-detector in a back Fourier focal plane. A phase modulation controlled by a monopixel liquid crystals’ cell placed in a reference arm of interferometer is observed as a dynamic shift of the fringes’ pattern in spatial domain. Concept of signals’ demodulation in the Fourier focal plane will be described using a new approach to the demodulation signals. In this work we evaluate the demodulation condition of our setup and we present measurements of a dynamic phase response for nematic liquid crystals and antiferroelectric liquid crystals cells.  相似文献

A lattice of magneto-optical and magnetic traps for cold atoms   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We describe basic periodic trapping configurations for ultracold atoms above surfaces. The approach is based on a simple wire grid and can be scaled to provide large arrays of periodically arranged magnetic or magneto-optical traps. The unit cells of the trap lattices are based on crossed wire segments. By alternating the current directions in the wires of the grid it can be distinguished between 3 basic lattice configurations. As a first demonstration, we used macroscopic wires in a 2 layer configuration to realize the unit cells of the lattices. With this experimental setup, we observe two of the basic unit cells and an array of 2×2 magneto optical traps. Electromagnetically induced optical (or photonic) lattices via atomic coherence in atomic ensembles have recently received great theoretical and experimental interest. We here conceive a way to generate electromagnetically induced moiré optical lattices — a twisted periodic pattern when two identical periodic patterns (lattices) are overlapped in a twisted angle (θ) — in a three-level coherent atomic gas working under electromagnetically induced transparency. We show that, changing the twisted angle and relative strength between the two constitutive sublattices, the moiré Bloch bands that are extremely flattened can always appear, resembling the typical flat-band and moiré physics found in other contexts. Dynamics of light propagation in the induced periodic structures demonstrating the unique linear localization and delocalization properties are also revealed. Our scheme can be implemented in a Rubidium atomic medium, where the predicted moiré optical lattices and flattened bands are naturally observable.  相似文献

Polarization vortex spatial optical solitons in Bessel optical lattices   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We investigate the formation of polarization vortex spatial optical solitons in optical lattice induced by a non-diffracting Bessel beam. The properties of these solitons in zeroth-order and first-order Bessel lattices with focusing and defocusing Kerr nonlinearity are discussed. It is found that these solitons have some analogies with phase vortex solitons carrying single positive or negative topological charge in these lattices. Besides, these polarization vortex solitons have complicated dynamical characteristic and can be stabilized in some parameter region.  相似文献

We fabricate two-dimensional elliptic photonic lattices in iron-doped lithium niobate photorefractive crystal for the first time with optical induction method. The experimental setup of our method is very simple and flexible without complicated optical adjustment system. We analyze and verify the two-dimensional elliptic photonic lattices by plane wave guiding, far field diffraction pattern imaging, and Brillouin-zone spectroscopy. Induced elliptic photonic lattices can stably exist for a long time in the iron-doped lithium niobate crystal. The induced two-dimensional elliptic photonic lattices might offer an easy method to study generic band gap phenomena in anisotropic periodic structures.  相似文献

We realize a two-dimensional kagome lattice for ultracold atoms by overlaying two commensurate triangular optical lattices generated by light at the wavelengths of 532 and 1064 nm. Stabilizing and tuning the relative position of the two lattices, we explore different lattice geometries including a kagome, a one-dimensional stripe, and a decorated triangular lattice. We characterize these geometries using Kapitza-Dirac diffraction and by analyzing the Bloch-state composition of a superfluid released suddenly from the lattice. The Bloch-state analysis also allows us to determine the ground-state distribution within the superlattice unit cell. The lattices implemented in this work offer a near-ideal realization of a paradigmatic model of many-body quantum physics, which can serve as a platform for future studies of geometric frustration.  相似文献

In this Letter we study various spin correlated insulating states of F=2 cold atoms in optical lattices. We find that the effective spin exchange interaction due to virtual hopping contains an octopole coupling between two neighboring lattice sites. Depending on scattering lengths and numbers of particles per site the ground states are either rotationally invariant dimer or trimer Mott insulators or insulating states with various spin orders. Three spin-ordered insulating phases are ferromagnetic, cyclic, and nematic Mott insulators. We estimate the phase boundaries for states with different numbers of atoms per lattice site.  相似文献
