Ceramic coatings on the surfaces of Mg-9Al-1Zn (AZ91) magnesium alloy and Mg-9Al-1Zn-1Nd magnesium alloy (AZ91 magnesium alloy modified by neodymium, named as AZ91Nd in this paper) are synthesized in aluminate electrolyte by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process, respectively. X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses show the PEO coating on the Mg-9Al-1Zn-1Nd alloy comprises not only MgO and Al2O3, which are found in the coating on the AZ91 alloy, but also a trace amount of Nd2O3. Microstructure observations indicate the addition of Nd can decrease the sizes of β phases and form Al2Nd intermetallics in the AZ91 alloy. The fine β phases can effectively restrain the formation of unclosed-holes and greatly decrease the sizes of pores in the coating during the PEO process. In addition, the Al2Nd intermetallics can be completely covered due to the lateral growth of the PEO coatings formed on the α and β phases. As a result, the coating on the AZ91Nd alloy possesses a dense microstructure compared with that on the AZ91 alloy. The following corrosion tests indicate the corrosion resistance of the PEO coating on the AZ91Nd alloy is evidently higher than that of the PEO coating on the AZ91 alloy.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to discuss the growth characteristics of the ceramic coatings on Ti alloy by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) technique. Ceramic coatings were prepared on Ti alloy by plasma electrolytic oxidation in different electrolyte solutions under different pulse modes. The composition and the structure of the coatings were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The amount of the dissolved titanium into the electrolytes during PEO process was measured by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-AES). The structure and the composition of the coatings were related to the mode of the spark discharge during PEO process. (a) Under the pulsed single-polar mode: In Na3PO4 solution, the spark discharge was mainly due to the breakdown of the oxide film, and the coatings prepared were porous and mainly structured by the Ti from the substrate. In K4ZrF6-H3PO4 and NaAlO2-Na3PO4 solutions, the main mode of the spark discharge was the breakdown of the oxide film at the initial stage, and then changed into the breakdown of the vapor envelope, and the coatings were rough and thick, and mainly structured by the elements from the electrolyte. (b) Under the pulsed bi-polar mode in NaAlO2-Na3PO4 solution, the spark discharge may be mainly due to the breakdown of the oxide film, the coatings prepared were dense in inner layer and loose in outer layer, and structured by the elements from both the substrate and the electrolyte. Besides, the ICP-AES analyses showed that the amount of the dissolved titanium in the electrolyte during PEO process was more under the breakdown of the oxide film than under the breakdown of the vapor envelope, which was consistent with the changes of the structure of the coatings. Cathode pulse in the pulsed bi-polar mode increased the amount of the dissolved titanium in the electrolyte, compared with the pulsed single-polar one.  相似文献

Ceramic coatings were formed by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) on aluminized steel. Characteristics of the average anodic voltages versus treatment time were observed during the PEO process. The micrographs, compositions and mechanical properties of ceramic coatings were investigated. The results show that the anodic voltage profile for processing of aluminized steel is similar to that for processing bulk Al alloy during early PEO stages and that the thickness of ceramic coating increases approximately linearly with the Al layer consumption. Once the Al layer is completely transformed, the FeAl intermetallic layer begins to participate in the PEO process. At this point, the anodic voltage of aluminized steel descends, and the thickness of ceramic coating grows more slowly. At the same time, some micro-cracks are observed at the Al2O3/FeAl interface. The final ceramic coating mainly consists of γ-Al2O3, mullite, and α-Al2O3 phases. PEO ceramic coatings have excellent elastic recovery and high load supporting performance. Nanohardness of ceramic coating reaches about 19.6 GPa.  相似文献

Oxide coatings were produced on AM60B magnesium alloy substrate making use of microarc oxidation (MAO) technique. The effect of KF addition in the Na2SiO3-KOH electrolytic solution on the microarc oxidation process and the structure, composition, and properties of the oxide coatings was investigated. It was found that the addition of KF into the Na2SiO3-KOH electrolytic solution caused increase in the electrolyte conductivity and decrease in the work voltage and final voltage in the MAO process. Subsequently, the pore diameter and surface roughness of the microarc oxidation coating were decreased by the addition of KF, while the coating compactness was increased. At the same time, the phase compositions of the coatings also varied after the addition of KF in the electrolytic solution, owing to the participation of KF in the reaction and its incorporation into the oxide coating. Moreover, the coating formed in the electrolytic solution with KF had a higher surface hardness and better wear-resistance than that formed in the solution without KF, which was attributed to the changes in the spark discharge characteristics and the compositions and structures of the oxide coatings after the addition of KF.  相似文献

The plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process of 6061Al alloy was carried out under the conditions with and without the assistance of ultrasound, respectively. The effects of ultrasound on the evolution of voltage, micro-discharge, morphology and composition of PEO coatings were investigated. The results show that ultrasound can greatly decrease the dielectric breakdown voltage of the coatings, increase the number of micro-discharges while decrease their average size, promote the evolution of micro-discharges, decrease the number and the average size of residual discharge pores in the coatings after 30 min of the process, promote the homogeneous distribution of elements and the formation of α-Al2O3 and 3Al2O3⋅2SiO2 in the coatings.  相似文献

The growth of silicate tungsten bronzes on aluminum by plasma electrolytic oxidation in 12-tungstosilicic acid is experimentally investigated and discussed. Real time imaging and optical emission spectroscopy characterization of plasma electrolytic oxidation show that spatial density of microdischarges is the highest in the early stage of the process, while the percentage of oxide coating area covered by active discharge sites decreases slowly with time. Emission spectrum of microdischarges has several intensive band peaks originating either from aluminum electrode or from the electrolyte. Surface roughness of obtained oxide coatings increases with prolonged time of plasma electrolytic oxidation, as their microhardness decreases. Raman spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy are employed to confirm that the outer layer of oxide coatings formed during the plasma electrolytic oxidation process is silicate tungsten bronzes.  相似文献

Ceramic-like coatings with a thickness of up to 40 μm are formed on aluminum composites without additives and with copper additives (1 and 4.5%) in a silicate-alkaline electrolyte by microarc oxidation. The composites are prepared by powder metallurgy (cold pressing and sintering in forevacuum). An increase in the copper concentration in the composites to 4.5% leads to the retardation of anode voltage growth on the initial stage of oxidation corresponding to the formation of a barrier layer. The coatings are studied by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray microanalysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The morphology of their surface corresponds to the morphology of the surface of coatings on compact aluminum alloys. According to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, a thin 1-μm layer forms on the surface. It consists predominantly of electrolyte components. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the coatings mainly consist of γ-Al2O3 oxide as well as the η-Al2O3 phase, the peaks of which are broadened. This broadening is characteristic of the amorphous component and may be due to the presence of nanocrystalline regions in the coating structure. In the coatings on the composite Al + 4.5% Cu, mullite Al2SiO5 and copper oxide CuO are also found. The excess aluminum content may be associated with residual unoxidized aluminum inclusions in the structure of the coatings.  相似文献

In the present work, four processes were carried out to produce ceramic coatings on aluminum substrate in two kinds of electrolytes (silicate and phosphate solution systems) using plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) technology. The voltage-time responses were recorded during different PEO processes. SEM/EDX and XRD were adopted to investigate the microstructure, elements distribution and phase composition of the coatings prepared in the two electrolyte systems. It is found that coatings produced in the silicate electrolyte have a more homogeneous morphology than those produced in the phosphate system. EDX analysis shows that silicon element tends to present primarily in the outer region of the coatings while phosphorus distributes uniformly throughout the coating thickness. According to the conventional anodic oxidation mechanism, a model is set up to explain the different characteristics of ceramic coatings fabricated in different electrolytes which is helpful to understand the growth mechanism of PEO coatings.  相似文献

Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) of AZ31B magnesium alloys was studied in alkaline silicate solutions at constant applied current densities. The microstructure, phase composition and elemental distribution of ceramic coatings were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDX). There are two inflections in the voltage-time response, three regions were identifiable and each of the regions was almost linear. The pores with different shapes distributed all over the coating surface, the number of the pores was decreasing, while the diameter was apparently increasing with prolonged MAO treatment time. There were also cracks on the coating surface, resulting from the rapid solidification of the molten oxide. The ceramic coating was comprised of two layers, an outer loose layer and an inner dense layer. The ceramic coating was mainly composed of forsterite phase Mg2SiO4 and MgO; the formation of MgO was similar to conversional anodizing technology, while formation of Mg2SiO4 was attributed to a high temperature phase transformation reaction. Presence of Si and O indicated that the electrolyte components had intensively incorporated into coatings.  相似文献

Poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) blended nanocomposite polymers, incorporating graphene oxide (GO) nano-sheets and embedded with NaIO4 salt, were prepared using solution casting technique. The as-prepared nanocomposite electrolyte membranes were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, and Raman vibrational spectroscopic techniques to confirm the dispersion of GO nano-sheets and to understand the synergistic properties of GO/polymer interactions as a function of GO nano-sheets concentration. GO fillers incorporated electrolyte membranes demonstrated distinctive surface morphology composed of circular-shaped protuberances of different dimensions. The decrease of Raman intensity ratio (ID/IG) and in-plane crystallite size (La) values of the nanocomposites suggested the good dispersion and confinement of the GO nano-sheets. The optical properties of blend electrolyte films were studied as a function of GO filler concentration using optical absorption and diffuse reflectance spectra. In reference to PEO/PVP/NaIO4, the resultant PEO/PVP/NaIO4/GO (0.4% in weight) electrolyte membrane demonstrated both an increase in tensile strength of ca. 42% and in Young’s modulus of ca. 40%, improvements coupled with a maximum fractured elongation of 3%. Through impedance spectroscopy analysis, the role of the GO nano-sheets onto the room temperature conductivity properties of the prepared electrolyte membranes has been probed.  相似文献

Cerium oxide nanoparticles and cerium oxide nanoparticle-decorated graphene oxide (GO) are synthesized via a facile chemical coprecipitation method in the presence of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). Nanostructure studies and electrochemical performances of the as-prepared samples were systematically investigated. The crystalline structure and morphology of the nanocomposites were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transition electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectrum, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Electrochemical properties of the CeO2 electrode, the GO electrode, and the nanocomposites electrodes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge/discharge (GCD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The CeO2 nanoparticle-decorated GO (at the mole ratio of CeO2/GO = 1:4) electrode exhibited excellent supercapacitive behavior with a high specific capacitance of 382.94 F/g at the current density of 3.0 A/g. These superior electrochemical features demonstrate that the CeO2 nanoparticle-decorated GO is a promising material for next-generation supercapacitor systems.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to discuss the growth characteristics and corrosion behavior of the prepared ceramic coatings on titanium by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) technique in different electrolytes. PEO process was carried out on titanium under constant voltage regime using a pulse power supply. Three kinds of electrolytes, phosphate, silicate and borate based solutions, were used to evaluate the influence of electrolyte composition on the structure, surface morphology, phase composition and corrosion behavior of prepared ceramic oxide films (titania). The phase composition of the coatings was investigated by X-ray diffraction. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to evaluate the growth and surface morphology of coatings. Elements of coatings were investigated with energy dispersive spectrometer. Corrosion behavior of the coatings was also examined by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The spark voltage of oxide films had a significant effect on the surface morphology, size and homogeneity of micro-pores, thickness and corrosion properties of coatings.  相似文献

In this study possibility to form the layered compositions CoOx + SiO2/TiO2/Ti by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) method was shown. Compositions have been obtained by both one-stage PEO method (Method I) with addition of Co(CH3COO)2 into silicate electrolyte and impregnation of preliminary obtained by the PEO method SiO2/TiO2/Ti systems in aqueous solutions containing cobalt salts with their following annealing (Method II). XRD, XPS and SEM/EDX were used to investigate the phase and element composition, microstructure of the coatings prepared by the two various methods. Catalytic activity of the cobalt-containing composites was investigated in the CO oxidation reaction. Under experimental conditions, the structures obtained by impregnation and annealing method were more active, than those obtained by one-stage PEO method. The surface structures of cobalt-containing coatings obtained by the PEO method and by impregnation and annealing differ in both quantitative and qualitative relation. The cobalt content on the surface of impregnating coatings is three times as much as that for those formed by one-stage PEO method. It is found that coatings obtained by the Method II have a more developed surface. The surface of CoOx + SiO2/TiO2/Ti compositions obtained by the PEO method contains, presumably Co(OH)2 and Co3O4. The surface of the similar compositions obtained by the Method II, possibly contains CoO, either Co2O3, or CoOOH. The combination of these factors, perhaps, also provides a higher activity of the compositions formed by the Method II.  相似文献

Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of a ZC71/SiC/12p-T6 magnesium metal matrix composite (MMC) is investigated in relation to coating growth and corrosion behaviour. PEO treatment was undertaken at 350 mA cm−2 (rms) and 50 Hz with a square waveform in stirred 0.05 M Na2SiO3.5H2O/0.1 M KOH electrolyte. The findings revealed thick, dense oxide coatings, with an average hardness of 3.4 GPa, formed at an average rate of ∼1 μm min−1 for treatment times up to 100 min and ∼0.2 μm min−1 for later times. The coatings are composed mainly of MgO and Mg2SiO4, with an increased silicon content in the outer regions, constituting <10% of the coating thickness. SiC particles are incorporated into the coating, with formation of a silicon-rich layer at the particle/coating interface due to exposure to high temperatures during coating formation. The distribution of the particles in the coating indicated growth of new oxide at the metal/coating interface. The corrosion rate of the MMC in 3.5% NaCl is reduced by approximately two orders of magnitude by the PEO treatment.  相似文献

In the present work, graphite grains of different sizes were added into the electrolyte to prepare ceramic coatings on aluminum by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with an energy dispersive X-ray analysis system (EDX), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) were used to characterize the coatings. A three-electrode system was used to evaluate the corrosion performances of the coatings in a 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. It was found that the morphology and corrosion performance of the coatings were significantly influenced by the size of the graphite grains. Compared with bigger graphite grains, finer ones were involved in the oxidation process and embedded within the ceramic coatings, which made the coatings less porous and more compact. Thus, the corrosion resistance of the coatings with embedded graphite grains was greatly improved.  相似文献

Titanium (Ti) and its alloys are widely used as metallic biomaterials for fabrication of dental and orthopedic implants due to their favorable biocompatibility and corrosion resistance in a body environment. However, the thin oxide layer (TiO2) on Ti substrate formed naturally in air or in many aqueous environments is bioinert and surrounded by fibrous tissues without producing any chemical or biological bond to bone when implanted. In the present work, Zinc-incorporated porous TiO2 coatings (Zn–TiO2) were prepared on Ti substrate by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) technique in the zinc gluconate-containing electrolyte. The surface morphology, cross-sectional morphology, composition, and phase of the coatings were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffractometry, respectively. Surface topography and roughness of the coatings were investigated by atomic force microscopy operated in tapping mode. The results showed that Zn was successfully incorporated into the porous TiO2 coatings, which did not alter apparently its surface topography and phase composition. In conclusion, the formation of porous Zn–TiO2 coatings endow Ti with potential bioactivity and antibacterial activity, and we believe that the porous Zn–TiO2 coatings on Ti by MAO technique might be promising candidates for orthopedic and dental implants  相似文献

Advances in materials performance often require the development of composite system. In the present investigation, SiO2-reinforced nickel composite coatings were deposited on a mild steel substrate using direct current electrodeposition process employing a nickel acetate bath. Surface morphology, composition, microstructure and crystal orientation of the Ni and Ni-SiO2 nanocomposite coatings were investigated by scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis, respectively. The effect of incorporation of SiO2 particles in the Ni nanocomposite coating on the microhardness and corrosion behaviour has been evaluated. Smooth composite deposits containing well-distributed silicon oxide particles were obtained. The preferred growth process of the nickel matrix in crystallographic directions <111>, <200> and <220> is strongly influenced by SiO2 nanoparticles. The average crystallite size was calculated by using X-ray diffraction analysis and it was ~23 nm for electrodeposited nickel and ~21 nm for Ni-SiO2 nanocomposite coatings. The crystallite structure was fcc for electrodeposited nickel and Ni-SiO2 nanocomposite coatings. The incorporation of SiO2 particles into the Ni matrices was found to improve corrosion resistance of pure Ni coatings. The corrosion potential (E corr) in the case of Ni-SiO2 nanocomposite coatings had shown a negative shift, confirming the cathodic protective nature of the coating. The Ni-SiO2 composite coatings have exhibited significantly improved microhardness (615 HV) compared to pure nickel coatings (265 HV)  相似文献

The effect of titanium hydride on the formation of nanoporous TiO2 on Ti during anodization has been investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, grazing incident X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Titanium hydride (TiH2) was formed after cathodization, profoundly impacting the formation of nanoporous TiO2 on Ti by anodization. Oxide layer and nanocrystal structure were observed after anodization with cathodic pretreatments. A multi-nanoporous TiO2 layer was formed on the titanium. The titanium hydride is a nanostructure. The nanostructure is directly changed to nanoporous TiO2 by a dissolution reaction during anodization. The nanoporous layer is difficult to form without cathodization. The nanostructural TiH2 is important in forming a nanoporous TiO2 layer. Anodization treatment with cathodic pretreatment not only yields a titanium surface with a multi-nanostructure, but also transforms the titanium surface into a nanostructured titanium oxide surface.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to study the effects of duty ratio on the growth mechanism of the ceramic coatings on Ti-6Al-4V alloy prepared by pulsed single-polar MPO at 50 Hz in NaAlO2 solution. The phase composition of the coatings was studied by X-ray diffraction, and the morphology and the element distribution in the coating were examined through scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The thickness of the coatings was measured by eddy current coating thickness gauge. The corrosion resistance of the coated samples was examined by linear sweep voltammetry technique in 3.5% NaCl solution. The changes of the duty ratio (D) of the anode process led to the changes of the mode of the spark discharge during the pulsed single-polar MPO process, which further influenced the structure and the morphology of the ceramic coatings. The coatings prepared at D = 10% were composed of a large amount of Al2TiO5 and a little γ-Al2O3 while the coatings prepared at D = 45% were mainly composed of α-Al2O3 and γ-Al2O3. The coating thickness and the roughness were both increased with the increasing D due to the formation of Al2O3. The formation of Al2TiO5 resulted from the spark discharge due to the breakdown of the oxide film, while the formation of Al2O3 resulted from the spark discharge due to the breakdown of the vapor envelope. The ceramic coatings improved the corrosion resistance of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. And the surface morphology and the coating thickness determined the corrosion resistance of the coated samples prepared at D = 45% was better than that of the coated samples prepared at D = 10%.  相似文献

Ceramic coating was achieved on Q235 carbon steel by PEO (plasma electrolytic oxidation, PEO) without any pretreatment in sodium aluminate system. The discharge process as well as the accompanied surface morphology evolution was analyzed. The phase and elemental composition of the coatings were also investigated. The corrosion, mechanical and tribological properties of the ceramic coating were primarily studied. It is found that the coating surface was porous and the thickness of the coating was about 120 μm. The coating mainly consisted of FeAl2O4, Fe3O4 and a little γ-A12O3. The corrosion current of the coated sample was 3.082 × 10−7 A/cm2, which was decreased by two orders of magnitude compared with the uncoated one. The micro hardness of the ceramic coating was 1210 Hv, which was about three times as that of the uncoated sample. The friction coefficient of coated sample was also well improved. Investigations revealed that PEO provided a promising technique for preparation of protective ceramic coatings on steels.  相似文献
