Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) lithography was utilized to investigate a 12-mer HS-ssDNA self-assembled Au (1 1 1) surface. Under low sample bias and high tunneling current, the repeated scanning resulted in the growth of nanostripes. The stripe orientation, the stripe width, and the spacer width between adjacent nanostripes were found to be dependent on their relative locations from dislocation points where two adjacent gold terraces overlap. The stripe and the spacer width also vary with the distance from these points. The results indicate that such stripes may reflect the strain distributions and the release pathway along the Au surfaces. The results also suggest that the presence of HS-ssDNA molecules enhances the lithography processes on the gold surface by acting as force transmitters.  相似文献

We report first principles calculations to analyze the ruthenium adsorption and diffusion on GaN(0 0 0 1) surface in a 2×2geometry. The calculations were performed using the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) with ultrasoft pseudopotential within the density functional theory (DFT). The surface is modeled using the repeated slabs approach. To study the most favorable ruthenium adsorption model we considered T1, T4 and H3 special sites. We find that the most energetically favorable structure corresponds to the Ru- T4 model or the ruthenium adatom located at the T4 site, while the ruthenium adsorption on top of a gallium atom (T1 position) is totally unfavorable. The ruthenium diffusion on surface shows an energy barrier of 0.612 eV. The resultant reconstruction of the ruthenium adsorption on GaN(0 0 0 1)- 2×2 surface presents a lateral relaxation of some hundredth of Å in the most stable site. The comparison of the density of states and band structure of the GaN(0 0 0 1) surface without ruthenium adatom and with ruthenium adatom is analyzed in detail.  相似文献

Accurate density-functional calculations are performed to investigate the formation of Ti and Fe ultrathin alloys on Al(0 0 1) surface. It is demonstrated that a deposition of Ti monolayer on Al(0 0 1) substrate leads to the formation of Al3Ti surface alloy with Ti atoms arranged according to the L12 stacking, distinct from the D022 structure characteristic of a bulk Al3Ti compound. A quest for the reason of this distinct atomic arrangement led us to the study of the surface structure of Al3Ti(0 0 1) compound. It is concluded that even the Al3Ti(0 0 1) surface is terminated with three layers assuming a L12 stacking and hence this stacking fault can be classified as a surface-induced stacking fault. Several possibilities of Fe atoms distributed in the surface region of Al(0 0 1) have been examined. The most stable configuration is the one with the compact Fe monolayer on Al(0 0 1) and covered by one Al monolayer. Lastly, our calculations show that there is no barrier for the penetration of Fe adatoms below the Al(0 0 1) surface; however, such a barrier is present for a Ti-alloyed Al(0 0 1) surface.  相似文献

Rhodium clusters were prepared by evaporation on a nearly stoichiometric TiO2(1 1 0) surface. The growth of metal nanoparticles, as a function of rhodium coverage, could be followed by monitoring the Rh 3d5/2 XP peak position and by low energy ion scattering spectroscopy (LEIS). The substrate temperature in the 160-300 K regime during evaporation significantly influences the cluster size, leading to smaller crystallites at low temperature. Annealing the surface results in the agglomeration of rhodium, which commenced at lower temperature for smaller clusters. At high temperatures (∼900 K) encapsulation of rhodium also occurred.  相似文献

The (1 0 0) SrTiO3 substrate has emerged as the oxide substrate of choice for the deposition of a wide variety of materials. The substrate's unavoidable miscut leads to a step-terrace morphology when heated to high temperatures. This morphological transition is accompanied by an atomic scale repositioning of the uppermost terrace atoms, the nature of which is strongly dependent on the substrate temperature and ambient atmosphere used. Here, we report the deposition of CdTe films on the as-received and reconstructed surfaces of (1 0 0) SrTiO3. The as-received substrate gives rise to a [1 1 1] CdTe film with four equally distributed in-plane grain orientations. The surface reconstruction, on the other hand, gives rise to an unprecedented reorientation of the film's grain structure. For this case, a [2 1 1] CdTe film emerges having twelve unevenly distributed in-plane orientations. We attribute the film's grain structure to an atomic scale surface reconstruction, with the anisotropic distribution of grain-types arising from a preferential formation due to the step edges.  相似文献

In this paper, a method of Ionization Spectroscopy (IS) is proposed for the non-destructive layer-by-layer analysis of the elemental composition of a solid surface. Using ionization energy loss spectra, a layer-by-layer concentration profile of the Pt80Co20(1 1 1) alloy surface is obtained for different annealing temperatures. For the disordered Pt80Co20(1 1 1) at room temperature, the first atomic layer consists of pure Pt with damped oscillations in the deeper layers. Heating the sample reduces the oscillations. However, at a temperature of 823 K, a sandwich-like structure of the type Pt/Co/Pt was found in the first three atomic layers. For the ordered state the first atomic layer also consists of pure Pt with bulk concentration in other layers. LEED analysis shows a p(2 × 2) superstructure for the surface of the ordered Pt80Co20(1 1 1) alloy. The segregation behavior in this alloy is further studied by Monte Carlo (MC) simulations combined with the Constant Bond Energy (CBE) model. The results of the MC simulations agree well with the experiments at the higher temperatures, both for the surface composition and the concentration depth profile. At lower temperatures, some discrepancies exist between the MC results and the measured concentration profile.  相似文献

Electronic and magnetic properties of the zincblende CrSb(0 0 1) surfaces and its interfaces with GaSb(0 0 1) and InAs(0 0 1) semiconductors are studied within the framework of the density-functional theory using the FPLAPW+lo approach. We found that the Cr-terminated surfaces retain the half-metallic character, while the half-metallicity is destroyed for the Sb-terminated surfaces due to surface states, which originate from p electrons. The phase diagram obtained through the ab-initio atomistic thermodynamics shows that at phase transition has occurred. Also the half-metallicity character is preserved at both CrSb/GaSb and CrSb/InAs interfaces. The conduction band minimum (CBM) of CrSb in the minority spin case lies about 0.63 eV above that of InAs, suggesting that the majority spin can be injected into InAs without being flipped to the conduction bands of the minority spin. On the other hand the CrSb/GaSb interface has a greater valence band offset (VBO) compared with the CrSb/InAs interface and the minority electrons have lower contribution in the injected currents and hence more efficient spin injection into the GaSb semiconductor. Thus the CrSb/GaSb and CrSb/InAs heterojunctions can be useful in the field of spintronics.  相似文献

An l-glutamic acid-derived lipid with a terminal thiol has been synthesized and its corresponding self-assembled structure on Au(1 1 1) surfaces described. The surface morphology of the lipid self-assembled monolayer (SAM) exhibits nano-order patterning, where the height of the monolayer (approximately 1.5 nm) could be interpreted as due to the monolayer structure estimated from molecular models. The molecular orientation in the monolayer is almost perpendicular to the Au(1 1 1) surface depending on the three-point hydrogen-bonding sites in the molecule.  相似文献

The atomic structure of Cs atoms adsorbed on the Si(0 0 1)(2 × 1) surface has been investigated by coaxial impact collision ion scattering spectroscopy. When 0.5 ML of Cs atoms are adsorbed on Si(0 0 1) at room temperature, it is found that Cs atoms occupy a single absorption site on T3 with a height of 3.18 ± 0.05 Å from the second layer of Si(0 0 1)(2 × 1) surface, and the bond length between Cs and the nearest Si atoms is 3.71 ± 0.05 Å.  相似文献

The deposition growth and annealing behaviors of Cu atoms onto Cu(0 0 1) are investigated in atomic scale by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The results indicate that the film grows approximately in a layer-island mode as the incident energy is from 1 to 5 eV, while surface intermixing can be significantly observed at 10 eV. The surface roughness of the film decreases with increasing the incident energy, and the film after annealing becomes smoother and more ordered. These phenomena may be attributed to the enhanced atomic mobility for higher incident energy and thermal annealing. It also indicates that atomic mixing is more significant with increasing both the incident energy and substrate temperature. In addition, the peak-to-peak distances of radial distribution function (RDF) clearly indicate that the films before and after annealing are still fcc structure except for that at the melting temperature of 1375.6 K. After annealing, the film at the melting temperature returns to fcc structure instead of amorphous. Moreover, the residual stress and Poisson ratio of the film are remarkably affected by the thermal annealing. Furthermore, the density of thin film is obviously affected by the substrate temperature and annealing process. Therefore, one can conclude that high incident energy, substrate temperature and thermal annealing could help to enhance the surface morphology and promote the microstructure of the film.  相似文献

Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV, λ = 172 nm) patterning of alkyl monolayer on silicon surface has been demonstrated with emphasis on the diffusion of VUV induced oxygen-derived active species, which are accountable for the pattern broadening. The VUV photons photo-dissociates the atmospheric oxygen and water molecules into the oxygen-derived active species (oxidants). These oxidants photo-oxidize the hexadecyl (HD) monolayer in VUV irradiated regions (Khatri et al., Langmuir. 24 (2008) 12077), as well as the little concentration of oxidants diffuses towards the masked areas. In this study, we performed VUV patterning at a vacuum pressure of 10 Pa to track the diffusion pathways for the oxidants with help of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs; ? = 10 nm) immobilization. At VUV irradiated sites AuNPs are found as uniformly distributed, but adjacent to the pattern boundary we observed quasi-linear arrays of AuNPs, which are determined by diffusion pathways of the oxidants. The diffusion of oxidants plays vital role in pattern broadening. The site selective anchoring of AuNPs demonstrates the utility of VUV photons for the construction of functional materials with microstructural architecture.  相似文献

Thin gold films were fabricated by vacuum resistive deposition on the n-Ge (1 1 1) wafers. The films were annealed between 300 and 600 °C. These resulting thin films were then characterised using scanning electron microscopy (field emission and back-scattering modes), Rutherford back scattering spectroscopy and time of flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy (TOF-SIMS). For temperatures below the eutectic temperature the distribution of both the gold and the germanium on the surface are uniform. Above the eutectic temperature, the formation of gold rich islands on the surface of the Germanium were observed. These changes in the microstructure were found to correspond to changes in the electrical characteristics of the diodes.  相似文献

Copper overlayer formation on the Ni(1 1 0) surface was studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) in an ultrahigh vacuum. Atom-resolved STM images showed that initially deposited Cu is replaced with surface Ni atoms forming atom-size depressions on the Ni(1 1 0) terraces and a Ni-rich quasi-one-dimensional island along the direction. Further Cu deposition yields a mosaic structure on the islands, indicating Cu/Ni mixed layer formation. From the quantitative measurement of the Cu/Ni ratio on the substrate and the islands, impinging Cu will be replaced with surface Ni whereas expelled Ni and directly impinging Cu to the island form the mixed island. The number of Cu atoms in the islands, however, more than the directly impinging Cu, indicate significant Cu/Ni replacement at the periphery of the island.  相似文献

By using molecular dynamics (MD) and the modified analytic embedded atom method (MAEAM), we have studied the melting point, the melting mechanism and the correspondingly dynamical behaviors of a Nb(1 1 0) nanofilm. Firstly, in accordance to the MD time dependence of the potential energy, the melting point of this nanofilm has been roughly estimated. Then, the melting mechanism of the nanofilm have been analyzed in detail with the application of the structure factor. The results clearly indicate that the melting transition of the 8th, 9th, and 10th atomic layer of the nanofilm has been characterized by the exponential, polynomial and linear sequence respectively when the thickness of the quasiliquid film attains to about 1.3 nm. Thirdly, the dynamical behaviors of the nanofilm melting, such as the melting front propagation velocity and the kinetic coefficient, which have also been analyzed, demonstrate that the melting front propagation velocity has linearly increased with the incremental temperature and the evaluated kinetic coefficient has approximately equaled 1.43m/(sK). Finally, by extrapolating the melting front propagation velocity to zero, we can accurately deduce the melting point of the Nb(1 1 0) nanofilm to 2568.3 K, which is much lower than the counterpart (2740 K) of the bulk niobium.  相似文献

The surface state density distribution NSS(E) and surface Fermi level EFs position on a sequentially ultra-high vacuum-annealed n-InP(1 0 0) sample are investigated using rigorous computer analysis of dependences of the room temperature band-edge photoluminescence efficiency (YPL) on the photon flux density (Φ). We have found that the minimum density of a U-shaped NSS(E) distribution as well as the donor-like surface state density are reduced by one order of magnitude after the annealing at 250 and 300 °C. This can be assigned to the decrease in the disorder in the unintentionally formed InP native oxides. On the other hand, we demonstrate that the annealing simultaneously generates discrete surface states probably due to missing group V element (P) in the interface region which may account for electrical interface instabilities observed in InP-based devices. The results are discussed quantitatively and compared to other reports.  相似文献

The structure, stoichiometry and electronic properties of the GaAs(0 0 1)-(2 × 4)/c(2 × 8) surface treated by cycles of atomic hydrogen (AH) exposure and subsequent annealing in UHV were studied with the aim of preparing the Ga-rich surface at low temperatures. Low energy electron diffraction showed reproducible structural transformations in each cycle: AH adsorption at the (2 × 4)/c(2 × 8) surface led to the (1 × 4) structure at low AH exposure and to a (1 × 1) surface at higher AH exposure with subsequent restoration of the (2 × 4)/c(2 × 8) structure under annealing at 450 °C. The cycles of AH treatment preserved the atomic flatness of the GaAs(1 0 0) surface, keeping the mean roughness on to about 0.15 nm. The AH treatment cycles led to the oscillatory behavior of 3dAs/3dGa ratio with a gradual decrease to the value characteristic for the Ga-rich surface. Similar oscillatory variations were observed in the work function. The results are consistent with the loss of As from the surface as a result of the desorption of volatile compounds which are formed after reaction with H. The prepared Ga-rich GaAs(0 0 1) surface showed the stability of the (2 × 4)/c(2 × 8) structure up to the annealing temperature of 580 °C.  相似文献

We investigate the morphology of a pentacene (C22H14) film adsorbed on the Cu(1 1 9) vicinal surface by scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM). Thermal treatment of a thick film of molecules generates a long-range ordered structure. Series of molecular rows are alternated with areas where the molecules assume two equivalent orientations. STM data analysis suggests that the ordered structure can be described by a rippled morphology. The behaviour of the film at different annealing temperatures suggests a possible explanation of the film structure as due to an adsorbate-induced modification of the substrate.  相似文献

We have investigated the electronic structure of the Yb/Si(1 1 1)-(3 × 2) surface using angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. Five surface states have been identified in the gap of the bulk band projection. Among these five surface state, the dispersions of three of them agree well with those of the surface states of monovalent atom adsorbed Si(1 1 1)-(3 × 1) surfaces. The dispersions of the two other surface states agree well with those observed on the Ca/Si(1 1 1)-(3 × 2) surface, whose basic structure is the same as that of monovalent atom adsorbed Si(1 1 1)-(3 × 1) surfaces. Taking these results into account, we conclude that the five surface states observed in the band gap originate from the orbitals of Si atoms that form a honeycomb-chain-channel structure.  相似文献

Diffusion of Pt adatom across the strained {1 1 1}-faceted step is studied by embedded atom method along with nudged elastic band method. For adatom on the flat (1 1 1) surface, the anisotropic diffusion behavior is found as the uniaxial strain is imposed. For the strained {1 1 1}-faceted step, our results show that the maximum energy barrier for adatom crossing step edge remains approximately constant as the strain varied from −1.0% to 1.0%, and there is a rise as the larger uniaxial strain is applied. The calculated energy barrier for adatom diffusion along the step edge increases with increasing tensile strain, and the slope of the straight line is small.  相似文献
