Polyamide 6 (PA 6) films are treated with helium(He)/CF4 plasma at atmospheric pressure. The samples are treated at different treatment times. The surface modification of the PA 6 films is evaluated by water contact angle, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The etching rate is used to study the etching effect of He/CF4 plasma on the PA 6 films. The T-peel strengths of the control and plasma treated films are measured to show the surface adhesion properties of the films. As the treatment time increases, the etching rate decreases steadily, the contact angle decreases initially and then increases, while the T-peel strength increases first and then decreases. AFM analyses show that the surface roughness increases after the plasma treatment. XPS analyses reveal substantial incorporation of fluorine and/or oxygen atoms to the polymer chains on the film surfaces.  相似文献

Polytetrafluoroethylene films are treated by room temperature helium atmospheric pressure plasma plumes, which are generated with a home-made single liquid electrode plasma device. After plasma treatment, the water contact angle of polytetrafluoroethylene film drops from 114°to 46°and the surface free energy increases from 22.0 mJ/m2 to 59.1 mJ/m2. The optical emission spectrum indicates that there are reactive species such as O2+ , O and He in the plasma plume. After plasma treatment, a highly crosslinking structure is formed on the film surface and the oxygen element is incorporated into the film surface in the forms of -C-O-C-, -C=O, and -O-C=O groups. Over a period of 10 days, the contact angle of the treated film is recovered by only about 10 , which indicates that the plasma surface modification is stable with time.  相似文献

For further prolonging the serve life of silicone rubber (SIR) for outdoor insulation and increasing its resistance of pollution flashover, surface modifications of SIR were carried out via CF4 capacitively coupled plasma at radio frequency (RF) power of 60, 100 and 200 W for a treatment time up to 20 min under CF4 flow rate of 20 sccm. Static contact angle measurement was employed to estimate the change of hydrophobicity of the modified SIR. The variation of the surface functional groups of the modified SIR was observed by attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectrum and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The surface topography was observed by atom force microscopy (AFM). The results indicate that the static contact angle of SIR surface is improved from 100.7° to 150.2° via the CF4 plasma modification, and the super-hydrophobic surface of modified SIR, which corresponds to a static contact angle of 150.2°, appears at RF power of 200 W for a 5-min treatment time. According to the results, it is suggested that the formation of super-hydrophobic surface is ascribed to the co-action of the increase of roughness created by the ablation reaction of CF4 plasma and the formation of [SiFx(CH3)2−xO]n (x = 1, 2) structure produced by the direct attachment of F atoms to Si.  相似文献

Unsaturated polyester resins (UP) and reinforced composite unsaturated polyester resins (RCP) were made superhydrophobic by plasma assisted methods. Both CF4-plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (CF4-PECVD) and alternative method were tested. The surfaces were characterized by water contact angle (CA) measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Water contact angle results indicated that CF4-PECVD can significantly improve the wettability of UP surfaces, but suffer from difficulties for RCP surfaces. Alternatively, O2 plasma followed by self-assembly of octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) self-assembled monolayer (SAM) was tested. It was shown that regardless of the filler percentage, O2 plasma followed by self-assembly of OTS monolayer formation all led to superhydrophobic surfaces. The results provided a means to improve the wettability of reinforced UP resins (RCP).  相似文献

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were deposited on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) using a radiofrequency plasma chemical vapour deposition method. Prior to DLC coating, the PTFE substrates were modified with O2 and N2 plasma to enhance the adhesion strength of the DLC film to the substrate. The effect of the plasma pre-treatment on the chemical composition and the surface energy of the plasma pre-treated PTFE surface was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and static water contact angle measurement, respectively. A pull-out test and a ball-on-disc test were carried out to evaluate the adhesion strength and the wear properties of the DLC-coated PTFE.In the N2 plasma pre-treatment, the XPS result indicated that defluorination and the nitrogen grafting occurred on the plasma pre-treated PTFE surface, and the water contact angle decreased with increasing the plasma pre-treatment time. In the O2 plasma pre-treatment, no grafting of the oxygen occurred, and the water contact angle slightly increased with the treatment time. In the pull-out test, the adhesion strength of the DLC film to the PTFE substrate was improved with the plasma pre-treatment to the PTFE substrate, and N2 plasma pre-treatment was more effective than the O2 plasma pre-treatment. In the ball-on-disc test, the DLC film with the N2 plasma pre-treatment showed good wear resistance, compared with that with O2 plasma pre-treatment.  相似文献

Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films were treated with CF4 plasma immersion. The samples were processed at different RF powers and treatment time. The surface modification of PET films was evaluated by water contact angle (CA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscope (AFM). Decrease in contact angle of both sides of PET films was observed under mild treatment conditions. However, as raising treatment power and/or time, the change in contact angle between the two sides of PET films was different. The relatively hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces were being in situ formed on the two sides of PET films, respectively. And the extreme values of water contact angle reached 108.63 and 7.56°, respectively. XPS analyses revealed that there was a substantial incorporation of fluorine and/or oxygen atoms in both side surfaces. The relative chemical composition of the C (ls) spectra's showed the incorporation of non-polar fluorine-based functionalities (i.e. CFCFn, CF2 or CF3 groups) and polar oxygen-based functionalities (i.e. COOH or OH groups) in the surfaces. Correlation between the plasma parameters and the surface modification of PET films is also discussed.  相似文献

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have been used to investigate the effect of reactive ion etching (RIE) on poly(methylhydrogensiloxane-co-dimethylsiloxane) surface in fluorine-based plasmas. Polysiloxane layers supported on the standard silicon wafers were etched using SF6 + O2 or CF4 + O2 plasmas. SEM studies show that the polysiloxane morphology depends on plasma chemical composition strongly. Presence of a columnar layer likely covered with a fluorine rich compound was found on the elastomer surface after the CF4 + O2 plasma exposure. After the SF6 + O2 or CF4 + O2 plasma treatment the polysiloxane surface enriches with fluorine or with fluorine and aluminum, respectively. Different morphologies and surface chemical compositions of the silicone elastomer etched in both plasmas indicate different etching mechanisms.  相似文献

The effect of femtosecond laser irradiation in air and in O2 and CF4 gas flows on the wettability of electrospun poly(?-caprolactone) fiber tissue scaffolds was studied. Laser power, focus spot size, raster scan spacing and gas atmosphere were varied in experiments. SEM imaging showed the average fiber diameter and surface porosity sizes were both altered by ablation. The micro-scale surface roughness measured by scanning laser profilometry was found to have a non-monotonic relationship to the surface wettability measured by the contact angle of sessile water droplets. In contrast, surface water contact angle continuously decreased with increased oxygen atomic percentage and oxygen-containing group fraction as measured by XPS. Further, the oxygen content was larger for more extensively ablated fiber surfaces, regardless of whether the increased ablation was caused by high laser power, smaller scanning space or smaller defocusing distance. Of the three gas atmospheres, O2 gas flow was the most favorable environment for increasing surface oxidization, resulting in the largest water contact angle decrease for given laser power. For CF4 gas flow, the least oxidization occurred, and the magnitude of water contact angle decrease was smallest for treatment at a given laser power.  相似文献

Owing to excellent electric properties, silicone rubber (SIR) has been widely employed in outdoor insulator. For further improving its hydrophobicity and service life, the SIR samples are treated by CF4 radio frequency (RF) capacitively coupled plasma. The hydrophobic and oleophobic properties are characterized by static contact angle method. The surface morphology of modified SIR is observed by atom force microscope (AFM). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is used to test the variation of the functional groups on the SIR surface due to the treatment by CF4 plasma. The results indicate that the static contact angle of SIR surface is improved from 100.7° to 150.2° via the CF4 plasma modification, and the super-hydrophobic surface of modified SIR, which the corresponding static contact angle is 150.2°, appears at RF power of 200 W for a 5 min treatment time. It is found that the super-hydrophobic surface ascribes to the coaction of the increase of roughness created by the ablation action and the formation of [-SiFx(CH3)2−x-O-]n (x = 1, 2) structure produced by F atoms replacement methyl groups reaction, more importantly, the formation of [-SiF2-O-]n structure is the major factor for super-hydrophobic surface, and it is different from the previous studies, which proposed the fluorocarbon species such as C-F, C-F2, C-F3, CF-CFn, and C-CFn, were largely introduced to the polymer surface and responsible for the formation of low surface energy.  相似文献

Fluorination plasma treatments at atmospheric pressure were used to modify the surface composition of EPDM elastomer. In this study, two different precursors (CF4 and SF6) and two carrier gases (He and Ar) were used for the surface modification of EPDM elastomer. The surface modifications were studied by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. We have observed a strong influence of the gas selection on the extent of the surface modification induced with these treatments. In general terms, the use of CF4 generates a higher concentration of fluorine in the elastomer surface. On the other hand, the use of He as carrier gas also increases the effectiveness of the modification process. The fluorine uptake varies between 2 and 13%, although the formation of fluorine-containing functional groups was detected when the amount of fluorine on the surface exceeded 7%. After all treatments, an important oxygen uptake was observed, with amounts three or four times higher than the untreated elastomer.  相似文献

The effectiveness of improving the wettability of HDPE powders within less than 0.1 s by plasma surface modification in a Plasma Downer Reactor is investigated. A correlation is revealed between the XPS results (O/C-ratio) and the wettability (contact angle, polar surface tension by capillary rise method). The O2-content in the plasma feed gas has been adjusted for best wettability properties. XPS results indicate the formation of CO and COOH functional groups on the powder surface. The O/C-ratio increased from 0.0 (no oxygen on the non-treated powder) up to 0.15 for the plasma treated HDPE powder surface. With pure O2-plasma treatment, a water contact angle reduction from >90° (no water penetration into the untreated PE powder) down to 65° was achieved. The total surface free energy increased from 31.2 to 45 mN/m. Ageing of treated powders occurs and proceeds mostly within the first 7 days of storage. Contact angle measurements and O1s/O2s intensity ratio data support that ageing is mainly a diffusion-controlled process. Nevertheless, XPS results show the presence of oxygen functional groups even after 40 days, which explains why the powder is still dispersible in water without any addition of surfactants.  相似文献

Some selective cold plasma processing modify specific surface properties of textile polymeric materials such as their dyeability, wettability and hydrorepellence. To correlate the sample surface changes with the acquired surface properties allows one to obtain information on the chemical and physical processing involved in plasma treatment. In this work, atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been applied to investigate the morphological and topographical surface modifications induced by RF cold plasma processing of poly(ethyleneterephthalate) (PET) fabrics. Rms surface roughness and surface area of the samples are measured before and after the treatments. The morphology changes have been analysed as a function of the treatment time and air gas pressure. Measurements have been performed also using plasmas produced by different gases such as He, Ar, SF6 and CF4. The PET shows different behaviour with different gas plasmas. In the case of air, He and Ar gases the sample surface modifications seem to be mainly due to etching effects, while the fluorine atoms grafting probably is responsible for surface rearrangement process using SF6 and CF4 gases. As a consequence different surface properties are produced in the plasma treated samples. Radio frequency (RF) plasma offers a unique route for the surface modification of polymer. The influence of the plasma treatment on the basic properties of the porous membranes such as effective void volume and the flow rate were investigated. It was shown that the polymer ablation significantly alters the hydrophilicity leading to the enhancement of the water flux. Here, the polypropylene membrane was tested by O2 plasma to emphasize that the contact angle nonlinearly decreases with the treatment time. The XPS surface sensitive technique was applied to confirm the drastic skin change of the oxygen content showing that membrane becomes super hydrophilic due to the significant O2 implant.  相似文献

High hydrophilic/hydrophobic contrast surfaces on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates were formed by shadow mask technique in electron cyclotron resonance generated sulfur hexafluoride plasma atmosphere. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses indicate that the unmasked PET surfaces contained a high proportion of the CF2-CF2 groups, and therefore were hydrophobic with large water contact angle. However, the surface wettability was found to increase drastically on the masked PET surfaces. This could be resulted from a mass of COF (acid fluoride) compounds observed by XPS on the masked film surfaces. The COF compounds could react with atmospheric moisture to form -COOH groups, which in turn increased the surface wettability. In addition, the surface wetting property of the masked areas was found to change significantly with the plasma treatment time, the mask-to-substrate distance and the storage time after the treatment. The best contract in water contact angle obtained from the treated PET samples was larger than 100° after 168 h of storage.  相似文献

We report a study of the self-assembled monolayer (SAM) growth of bis[3(triethoxysilane)propyl]tetrasulfide (Tetrasulfide) on low dielectric constant (low-k) aromatic hydrocarbon SiLK whose surface chemistry was modified using sulfuric acid, He plasma treatment, and N2 plasma treatment. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra show that there is no detectable growth of Tetrasulfide SAM on untreated SiLK surfaces. After the SiLK surfaces have been treated with sulfuric acid, He plasma, or N2 plasma, the original chemically inert polymer surfaces are functionalized with polar groups resulting in a significant improvement of their wettability, which is confirmed by their reduction of water droplet contact angles. The introduction of polar functional groups thus facilitates the formation of Tetrasulfide SAM on the polymer surfaces. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis shows an insignificant change in the surface morphology after the growth of Tetrasulfide SAM on the chemically modified SiLK surfaces. Quantitative XPS analysis also showed that Tetrasulfide SAM growth is more prominent on He and N2 plasma treated surfaces than those treated by sulfuric acid.  相似文献

The aging effects of atmospheric plasma treatments on UHMPE fibers are studied. UHMPE fibers are treated for 0.5 and 1 min with He/O2/air gas and for 2 and 4 min with He/air gas by atmospheric pressure plasma on a capacitively coupled device at a frequency of 5 kHz. The samples are tested for fiber/epoxy interfacial shear strength at time intervals of 0, 3, 15 and 30 days after initial plasma treatment. Scanning electron microscopy shows micro-cracks on each set of treated fibers, which is not affected by aging over the 30 day study. Interfacial shear strengths (IFSS) for plasma-treated fibers are 2–3 times as high as that of the control. The IFSS for the plasma treated fibers remains constant up to 15 days and then decreases afterwards. XPS Analysis shows a slight increase in atomic concentration of oxygen and nitrogen for each plasma-treated sample. For the He/O2/air plasma-treated samples, XPS analysis shows an observable increase in C–OH bonds, C=O bonds and COOH bonds, while for the He/air plasma-treated samples, there is a slight increase in C–OH and O=C–O bonds. After 30 days, a decrease in oxygen content for all plasma-treated samples is manifested.  相似文献

Indium-tin-oxide (ITO) surfaces were treated with O2 and H2 plasmas. The contact angle of water, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra, and luminescence characteristics of organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) fabricated on plasma-treated ITO surfaces using poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) films doped with 5,6,11,12-tetraphenylnaphthacene (rubrene) or Nile Red were investigated.Using O2 plasma treatment, the contact angle was reduced from 35° to 13°. The luminance of OLEDs with rubrene was significantly improved. The luminous color of an OLED inserted poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-polystyrene sulphonic acid (PEDOT-PSS) layer between Nile Red-doped PVK film and O2-plasma-treated ITO surface turned white as the applied voltage increased.  相似文献

Stainless steel wafers were treated with the glow discharge plasma of mixed N2O and O2 at different molar ratios at a certain discharge condition to create desirable biological characteristics to the surfaces. It was found that the molar ratio of N2O to O2 in the mixture at 1:1 used for plasma surface modification caused high apoptotic percentage. Contact angle measurement showed that the surface of stainless steel samples became very hydrophilic after the plasma modification with a value of 15°-30°. The control stainless steel chips without plasma treatment had a contact angle of 40 ± 2°. The data of Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis (ESCA) indicated that there was a certain amount of oxynitrites formed on the plasma treated surfaces, which was considered to play an important role to cell apoptosis and anti-clot formation in cell culture tests. The ESCA depth profile of up to 250 Å from the top surface showed the change of elemental compositions within 40-50 Å of the surface by the plasma treatment. The decreased platelet attachment, combined with increased apoptosis in fibroblasts is a distinct combination of biological responses arising from the mixed gas plasma treatment. These initial results suggest it may be of particular use relative to stainless steel stents where decreased platelet attachments are advantageous and induction of apoptosis could limit in-stent restenosis.  相似文献

Low temperature process to prepare titanium oxide film on the surface of PET was investigated in this study. The substrates were pre-treated by oxygen plasma activated procedure, and then spin coating of Ti(OR)4 precursor solution was carried out to prepare Ti-containing organic films. Finally, O2 plasma was employed to decompose organic compounds and oxidize Ti to form oxides. Oxygen plasma post treatment can oxidize the organic compounds to form titanium oxide carbon subsequently. From the IR and ESCA analysis could be observed that -CH bond decreases and Ti-O, C-O bonds increase after O2 plasma treatment. Their surface hydrophilicity was enhanced by UV-irradiation, the degree of water contact angle decreased from 60° to 10°.  相似文献

The effect of low pressure radio frequency (rf) plasma treatment on TiO2 surface states has been studied using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Three different oxidation states of oxygen in untreated TiO2 powder were observed, which suggests the existence of adsorbed water and carbon on the surface. The ratio of oxygen to titanium (O/Ti) was decreased for the low ion dose plasma treated samples due to desorption of water from the surface. In the case of Ti 2p about 20% of surface states were converted to Ti3+ 2p3/2 state after plasma treatment with a very good stability, whereas untreated TiO2 remained mostly as Ti4+ state. A rapid decrease in the ratio of carbon to titanium (C/Ti) at TiO2 surface was also observed after plasma treatment and more than 90% of carbon atoms were removed from the surface. Therefore, the plasma treatment of TiO2 has advantages to surface carbon cleaning, increasing O and Ti3+ surface states, hence improving the activity of TiO2 for different environmental, energy and biological applications.  相似文献
