Irregular Boundary Value Problems Revisited

We give a survey on results that have been obtained during the last century for irregular boundary eigenvalue problems for arbitrary order differential equations and explain the main differences between this class and the classes of Birkhoff- and Stone-regular problems.     

Pseudodifferential Boundary Value Problems with Non-Smooth Coefficients

ABSTRACT

In this contribution, we establish a calculus of pseudodifferential boundary value problems with Hölder continuous coefficients. It is a generalization of the calculus of pseudodifferential boundary value problems introduced by Boutet de Monvel. We discuss their mapping properties in Bessel potential and certain Besov spaces. Although having non-smooth coefficients and the operator classes being not closed under composition, we will prove that the composition of Green operators a ₁(x, D _x )a ₂(x, D _x ) coincides with a Green operator a(x, D _x ) up to order m ₁ + m ₂ ? Θ, where Θ ∈ (0, τ₂) is arbitrary, a _j (x, ξ) is in C ^{τ _j} (? ⁿ ) w.r.t. x, and m _j is the order of a _j (x, D _x ), j = 1, 2. Moreover, a(x, D _x ) is obtained by the asymptotic expansion formula of the smooth coefficient case leaving out all terms of order less than m ₁ + m ₂ ? Θ. This result is used to construct a parametrix of a uniformly elliptic Green operator a(x, D _x ).     

Discontinuous Boundary Value Problems with Retarded Argument and Eigenparameter-Dependent Boundary Conditions

In this paper we study the asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions of discontinuous boundary value problems with retarded argument and eigenparameter-dependent boundary conditions.

Equivalence of Fourth Order Boundary Value Problems and Matrix Eigenvalue Problems

We show that a class of regular self-adjoint fourth order boundary value problems (BVPs) is equivalent to a certain class of matrix problems. Conversely, for any given matrix problem in this class, there exist fourth order self-adjoint BVPs which are equivalent to the given matrix problem. Equivalent here means that they have exactly the same spectrum.     

Regular Sturm - Liouville Problems Whose Coefficients Depend Rationally on the Eigenvalue Parameter

In this note we consider regular Sturm-Liouville equations with a floating singularity of a special type: the coefficient of the second order derivative contains the eigenvalue parameter. We determine the form of the boundary conditions which make the problem selfadjoint after linearizing. In general the boundary conditions for the linearized system give rise to boundary conditions which involve the eigenvalue parameter in the original, non-linearized, problem. The boundary conditions give rise to a 2 × 2 matrix function, the so-called Titchmarsh-Weyl coefficient. The characteristic properties of this function are studied. The formal aspects of the theory of this class of equations turn out to be quite parallel to those for the usual situation when there is no floating singularity.

General Linear Boundary Value Problems for Elliptic Operators with VMO Coefficients

We prove a priori estimates in Sobolev spaces for general linear elliptic boundary value problems with VMO coefficients.We give also results of existence and uniqueness of a solution.     

Extremal Eigenvalues of the Sturm-Liouville Problems with Discontinuous Coefficients

In this paper, an extremal eigenvalue problem to the Sturm-Liouville equations with discontinuous coefficients and volume constraint is investigated. Liouville transformation is applied to change the problem into an equivalent minimization problem. Finite element method is proposed and the convergence for the finite element solution is established. A monotonic decreasing algorithm is presented to solve the extremal eigenvalue problem. A global convergence for the algorithm in the continuous case is proved. A few numerical results are given to depict the efficiency of the method.     

On Eigenvalue Intervals for Discrete Second Order Boundary Value Problems

In this paper, we consider discrete second order three-point boundary value problems. By exploring the properties of the associated Green's function and applying Guo-Krasnosel'skii's fixed point theorem, we show the existence of eigenvalue intervals.     

On Coefficients of Eigenfunction Expansions for Boundary-Value Problems with Parameter in Boundary Conditions

In this paper, we consider boundary-value problems for an nth-order ordinary differential equation with polynomials of the spectral parameter in the equation and in the boundary conditions. For a wide class of such problems, we find coefficients of the eigen and associated function expansions for the Shkalikov linearizer.     

非线性边值问题正解存在性的特征值判据

讨论了二阶常微分方程边值问题{-u~n(t)=f(t,u(t)),t∈[0,1],u(0)=u(1)=0正解的存在性,其中f:[0,1]×R~+→R~+连续.给出了该问题存在正解的新特征值判据,该判据改进了以前文献中的相关结果.我们的论证基于锥上的不动点指数理论.     

On Eigenvalue Intervals and Eigenfunctions of Nonresonance Singular Dirichlet Boundary Value Problems

In this paper we shall consider the nonresonance Dirichlet boundary value problemwhere λ>0 is a parameter, p>0 is a constant. Intervals of A are determined to ensure the existence of a nonnegative solution of the boundary value problem. For λ=1, we shall also offer criteria for the existence of eigenfunctions. The main results include and improve on those of [2,4,6,8].     

Extremality Results for Discontinuous Sturm‐Liouville Boundary Value Problems

In this paper we derive extremalit and comparison results for explicit and implicit boundary value problems of Sturm‐Liouville differential equations. Differential equations and boundary conditions ma involve discontinuous and functional dependencies.     

Boundary Value Problems with a Parameter of Differential Equations with Deviated Arguments

The aim of the present paper is to study boundary value problems with a parameter of differential equations with deviated arguments. The existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence of the solution on the right-hand side of our problem are considered.
