Suppose we are given a group G\mit\Gamma and a tree X on which G\mit\Gamma acts. Let d be the distance in the tree. Then we are interested in the asymptotic behavior of the numbers ad: = # {w ? vertX : w=gv, g ? G , d(v0,w)=d }a_d:= \# \{w\in {\rm {vert}}X : w=\gamma {v}, \gamma \in {\mit\Gamma} , d({v}_0,w)=d \} if d? ¥d\rightarrow \infty , where v, vo are some fixed vertices in X.¶ In this paper we consider the case where G\mit\Gamma is a finitely generated group acting freely on a tree X. The growth function ?ad xd\textstyle\sum\limits a_d x^d is a rational function [3], which we describe explicitely. From this we get estimates for the radius of convergence of the series. For the cases where G\mit\Gamma is generated by one or two elements, we look a little bit closer at the denominator of this rational function. At the end we give one concrete example.  相似文献

Let Hk\mathcal{H}_{k} denote the set {n∣2|n, n\not o 1 (mod p)n\not\equiv 1\ (\mathrm{mod}\ p) ∀ p>2 with p−1|k}. We prove that when X\frac1120(1-\frac12k) +e\leqq H\leqq XX^{\frac{11}{20}\left(1-\frac{1}{2k}\right) +\varepsilon}\leqq H\leqq X, almost all integers n ? \allowbreak Hk ?(X, X+H]n\in\allowbreak {\mathcal{H}_{k} \cap (X, X+H]} can be represented as the sum of a prime and a k-th power of prime for k≧3. The complex group algebra \Bbb CG{\Bbb C}G of a countable group G can be imbedded in the von Neumann algebra NG of G. If G is torsion-free, and if P is a finitely generated projective module over \Bbb CG{\Bbb C}G it is proved that the central-valued trace of NG?\Bbb CGPNG\otimes _{{\Bbb C}G}P, i.e. of an idempotent \Bbb CG{\Bbb C}G-matrix A defining P is equal to the canonical trace k(P)\kappa (P) times identity I. It follows that k(P)\kappa (P) characterizes the isomorphism type of NG?\Bbb CGPNG\otimes _{{\Bbb C}G}P.¶If k(P)\kappa (P) is an integer, e.g., if the weak Bass conjecture holds for G then NG?\Bbb C GPNG\otimes _{{\Bbb C} G}P is free. It is also shown that for certain classes of groups geometric arguments can be used to prove the Bass conjecture.  相似文献

A polynomial P(X) with coefficients {ǃ} of odd degree N - 1 is cyclotomic if and only if¶¶P(X) = ±Fp1X)Fp2Xp1) ?FprXp1 p2 ?pr-1) P(X) = \pm \Phi_{p1} (\pm X)\Phi_{p2}(\pm X^{p1}) \cdots \Phi_{p_r}(\pm X^{p1 p2 \cdots p_r-1}) ¶where N = p1 p2 · · · pr and the pi are primes, not necessarily distinct, and where Fp(X) : = (Xp - 1) / (X - 1) \Phi_{p}(X) := (X^{p} - 1) / (X - 1) is the p-th cyclotomic polynomial. This is a conjecture of Borwein and Choi [1]. We prove this conjecture for a class of polynomials of degree N - 1 = 2r pl - 1 N - 1 = 2^{r} p^{\ell} - 1 for any odd prime p and for integers r, l\geqq 1 r, \ell \geqq 1 .  相似文献

On the assumption of the truth of the Riemann hypothesis for the Riemann zeta function we construct a class of modified von-Mangoldt functions with slightly better mean value properties than the well known function L\Lambda . For every e ? (0,1/2)\varepsilon \in (0,1/2) there is a [(L)\tilde] : \Bbb N ? \Bbb C\tilde {\Lambda} : \Bbb N \to \Bbb C such that¶ i) [(L)\tilde] (n) = L (n) (1 + O(n-1/4  logn))\tilde {\Lambda} (n) = \Lambda (n) (1 + O(n^{-1/4\,} \log n)) and¶ii) ?n \leqq x [(L)\tilde] (n) (1- [(n)/(x)]) = [(x)/2] + O(x1/4+e) (x \geqq 2).\sum \limits_{n \leqq x} \tilde {\Lambda} (n) \left(1- {{n}\over{x}}\right) = {{x}\over{2}} + O(x^{1/4+\varepsilon }) (x \geqq 2).¶Unfortunately, this does not lead to an improved error term estimation for the unweighted sum ?n \leqq x [(L)\tilde] (n)\sum \limits_{n \leqq x} \tilde {\Lambda} (n), which would be of importance for the distance between consecutive primes.  相似文献

We show that for every closed Riemannian manifold X there exists a positive number¶ $ \varepsilon_0 > 0 $ \varepsilon_0 > 0 such that for all 0< e\leqq e0 \varepsilon \leqq \varepsilon_0 there exists some¶ $ \delta > 0 $ \delta > 0 such that for every metric space Y with Gromov-Hausdorff distance to X less than¶ d \delta the geometric e \varepsilon -complex |Ye| |Y_\varepsilon| is homotopy equivalent to X.¶ In particular, this gives a positive answer to a question of Hausmann [4].  相似文献

Let X be a smooth algebraic surface, L ? Pic(X) L \in \textrm{Pic}(X) and H an ample divisor on X. Set MX,H(2; L, c2) the moduli space of rank 2, H-stable vector bundles F on X with det(F) = L and c2(F) = c2. In this paper, we show that the geometry of X and of MX,H(2; L, c2) are closely related. More precisely, we prove that for any ample divisor H on X and any L ? Pic(X) L \in \textrm{Pic}(X) , there exists n0 ? \mathbbZ n_0 \in \mathbb{Z} such that for all n0 \leqq c2 ? \mathbbZ n_0 \leqq c_2 \in \mathbb{Z} , MX,H(2; L, c2) is rational if and only if X is rational.  相似文献

We show that for every n \geqq 4, 0 \leqq k \leqq n - 3, p ? (0, 3] n \geqq 4, 0 \leqq k \leqq n - 3, p \in (0, 3] and every origin-symmetric convex body K in \mathbbRn \mathbb{R}^n , the function ||x ||-k2 ||x ||-n+k+pK \parallel x \parallel^{-k}_{2} \parallel x \parallel^{-n+k+p}_{K} represents a positive definite distribution on \mathbbRn \mathbb{R}^n , where ||·||2 \parallel \cdot \parallel_{2} is the Euclidean norm and ||·||K \parallel \cdot \parallel_{K} is the Minkowski functional of K. We apply this fact to prove a result of Busemann-Petty type that the inequalities for the derivatives of order (n - 4) at zero of X-ray functions of two convex bodies imply the inequalities for the volume of average m-dimensional sections of these bodies for all 3 \leqq m \leqq n 3 \leqq m \leqq n . We also prove a sharp lower estimate for the maximal derivative of X-ray functions of the order (n - 4) at zero.  相似文献

If a topological group G acts on a topological space X, then we say that the action is orbit nonproper provided that, for some x ? X x \in X , the orbit map g ? gx : G ? X g \mapsto gx : G \to X is nonproper. We consider the problem of classifying the connected, simply connected real Lie groups G such that G admits a locally faithful, orbit nonproper action on a connected Lorentz manifold. In this paper, we describe three collections of groups such that G admits such an action iff G is in one of the three collections. In an earlier paper, we effectively described the first collection. In yet another paper, we describe effectively those groups in the second collection which are not contained in the union of the first and third. Finally, in another paper, we describe effectively the third collection.  相似文献

We show that if L is a unimodular Lie algebra over a field of characteristic 1 2\ne 2, then the dimension s\sigma(L) of the total cohomology of L is a multiple of 4 when dim(L)\not o 3\dim(L)\not\equiv 3 (mod 4). However, contrary to a claim by Deninger and Singhof, we give an example of a rational nilpotent algebra L of dimension 15 with s(L)\not o 0\sigma(L)\not\equiv 0 (mod 4). Over fields of characteristic 2, we completely classify those algebras L with s(L)\not o 0\sigma(L)\not\equiv 0 (mod 4).  相似文献

Summary. Quite recently C. Alsina, P. Cruells and M. S. Tomás [2], motivated by F. Suzuki's property of isosceles trapezoids, have proposed the following orthogonality relation in a real normed linear space (X, ||·||) (X, \Vert \cdot \Vert) : two vectors x,y ? X x,y \in X are T-orthogonal whenever¶||z-x ||2 + ||z-y ||2 = ||z ||2 + ||z-(x+y) ||2 \Vert z-x \Vert^2 + \Vert z-y \Vert^2 = \Vert z \Vert^2 + \Vert z-(x+y) \Vert^2 ¶for every z ? X z \in X . A natural question arises whether an analogue of T-orthogonality may be defined in any real linear space (without a norm structure). Our proposal reads as follows. Given a functional j \varphi on a real linear space X we say that two vectors x,y ? X x,y \in X are j \varphi -orthogonal (and write x^jy x\perp_{\varphi}y ) provided that Dx,yj = 0 \Delta_{x,y}\varphi = 0 (Dh1,h2 \Delta_{h_1,h_2} stands here and in the sequel for the superposition Dh1 °Dh2 \Delta_{h_1} \circ \Delta_{h_2} of the usual difference operators).¶We are looking for necessary and/or sufficient conditions upon the functional j \varphi to generate a j \varphi -orthogonality such that the pair X,^j X,\perp_{\varphi} forms an orthogonality space in the sense of J. Rätz (cf. [6]). Two new characterizations of inner product spaces as well as a generalization of some results obtained in [2] are presented.  相似文献

Suppose G is a transitive permutation group on a finite set W\mit\Omega of n points and let p be a prime divisor of |G||G|. The smallest number of points moved by a non-identity p-element is called the minimal p-degree of G and is denoted mp (G). ¶ In the article the minimal p-degrees of various 2-transitive permutation groups are calculated. Using the classification of finite 2-transitive permutation groups these results yield the main theorem, that mp(G) 3 [(p-1)/(p+1)] ·|W|m_{p}(G) \geq {{p-1} \over {p+1}} \cdot |\mit\Omega | holds, if Alt(W) \nleqq G {\rm Alt}(\mit\Omega ) \nleqq G .¶Also all groups G (and prime divisors p of |G||G|) for which mp(G) £ [(p-1)/(p)] ·|W|m_{p}(G)\le {{p-1}\over{p}} \cdot |\mit\Omega | are identified.  相似文献

Let R be a right near-ring with identity and Mn(R) be the near-ring of n 2 n matrices over R in the sense of Meldrum and Van der Walt. In this paper, Mn(R) is said to be s\sigma-generated if every n 2 n matrix A over R can be expressed as a sum of elements of Xn(R), where Xn(R)={fijr | 1\leqq i, j\leqq n, r ? R}X_n(R)=\{f_{ij}^r\,|\,1\leqq i, j\leqq n, r\in R\}, is the generating set of Mn(R). We say that R is s\sigma-generated if Mn(R) is s\sigma-generated for every natural number n. The class of s\sigma-generated near-rings contains distributively generated and abstract affine near-rings. It is shown that this class admits homomorphic images. For abelian near-rings R, we prove that the zerosymmetric part of R is a ring, so the class of zerosymmetric abelian s\sigma-generated near-rings coincides with the class of rings. Further, for every n, there is a bijection between the two-sided subgroups of R and those of Mn(R).  相似文献

Let \frak X, \frak F,\frak X\subseteqq \frak F\frak {X}, \frak {F},\frak {X}\subseteqq \frak {F}, be non-trivial Fitting classes of finite soluble groups such that G\frak XG_{\frak {X}} is an \frak X\frak {X}-injector of G for all G ? \frak FG\in \frak {F}. Then \frak X\frak {X} is called \frak F\frak {F}-normal. If \frak F=\frak Sp\frak {F}=\frak {S}_{\pi }, it is known that (1) \frak X\frak {X} is \frak F\frak {F}-normal precisely when \frak X*=\frak F*\frak {X}^{\ast }=\frak {F}^{\ast }, and consequently (2) \frak F í \frak X\frak N\frak {F}\subseteq \frak {X}\frak {N} implies \frak X*=\frak F*\frak {X}^{\ast }=\frak {F}^{\ast }, and (3) there is a unique smallest \frak F\frak {F}-normal Fitting class. These assertions are not true in general. We show that there are Fitting classes \frak F\not = \frak Sp\frak {F}\not =\frak {S}_{\pi } filling property (1), whence the classes \frak Sp\frak {S}_{\pi } are not characterized by satisfying (1). Furthermore we prove that (2) holds true for all Fitting classes \frak F\frak {F} satisfying a certain extension property with respect to wreath products although there could be an \frak F\frak {F}-normal Fitting class outside the Lockett section of \frak F\frak {F}. Lastly, we show that for the important cases \frak F=\frak Nnn\geqq 2\frak {F}=\frak {N}^{n},\ n\geqq 2, and \frak F=\frak Sp1?\frak Sprpi \frak {F}=\frak {S}_{p_{1}}\cdots \frak {S}_{p_{r}},\ p_{i} primes, there is a unique smallest \frak F\frak {F}-normal Fitting class, which we describe explicitly.  相似文献

We introduce vector-valued Jacobi-like forms associated to a representation r: G? GL(n,\Bbb C)\rho: \Gamma \rightarrow GL(n,{\Bbb C}) of a discrete subgroup G ì SL(2,\Bbb C)\Gamma \subset SL(2,{\Bbb C}) in \Bbb Cn{\Bbb C}^n and establish a correspondence between such vector-valued Jacobi-like forms and sequences of vector-valued modular forms of different weights with respect to ρ. We determine a lifting of vector-valued modular forms to vector-valued Jacobi-like forms as well as a lifting of scalar-valued Jacobi-like forms to vector-valued Jacobi-like forms. We also construct Rankin-Cohen brackets for vector-valued modular forms.  相似文献

In this note, we examine the structure of closed ideals of a quasianalytic weighted Beurling algebra A\cal {A}. This algebra is contained in C (G){\cal C}^\infty (\mit\Gamma) and contains the set A (D)A^\infty (D). Like in a previous article (see [6]), we use division properties and we give a characterization of closed ideals I such that I?A 1 { 0}I\cap A^\infty\! \ne \{ 0\} . Then, we use a factorization property proved in [2], which allows us to describe all the closed ideals of A\cal {A}.  相似文献

Let h[-(p)h^-(p) be the relative class number of the p-th cyclotomic field. We show that logh-(p) = [(p+3)/4] logp - [(p)/2] log2p+ log(1-b) + O(log22 p)\log h^-(p) = {{p+3} \over {4}} \log p - {{p} \over {2}} \log 2\pi + \log (1-\beta ) + O(\log _2^2 p), where b\beta denotes a Siegel zero, if such a zero exists and p o -1 mod 4p\equiv -1\pmod {4}. Otherwise this term does not appear.  相似文献
