The present investigation deals with a mathematical model representing the mass transfer to blood streaming through the arteries under stenotic condition. The mass transport refers to the movement of atherogenic molecules, that is, blood-borne components, such as oxygen and low-density lipoproteins from flowing blood into the arterial walls or vice versa. The blood flowing through the artery is treated to be Newtonian and the arterial wall is considered to be rigid having differently shaped stenoses in its lumen arising from various types of abnormal growth or plaque formation. The nonlinear unsteady pulsatile flow phenomenon unaffected by concentration-field of the macromolecules is governed by the Navier–Stokes equations together with the equation of continuity while that of mass transfer is controlled by the convection-diffusion equation. The governing equations of motion accompanied by appropriate choice of the boundary conditions are solved numerically by MAC(Marker and Cell) method and checked numerical stability with desired degree of accuracy. The quantitative analysis carried out finally includes the respective profiles of the flow-field and concentration along with their distributions over the entire arterial segment as well. The key factors like the wall shear stress and Sherwood number are also examined for further qualitative insight into the flow and mass transport phenomena through arterial stenosis. The present results show quite consistency with several existing results in the literature which substantiate sufficiently to validate the applicability of the model under consideration.   相似文献

The present investigation deals with a mathematical model of blood flow through an asymmetric (about its narrowest point) arterial constriction obtained from casting of a mildly stenosed artery. The flowing blood is represented as the suspension of all red cells (erythrocytes) in plasma assumed to be Casson fluid, while the arterial wall is considered to be rigid having differently shaped stenoses in its lumen arising from various types of abnormal growth or plaque formation. The governing equations of motion accompanied by the appropriate choice of the boundary conditions are solved numerically by Marker and Cell method in order to compute the physiologically significant quantities with desired degree of accuracy. The necessary checking for numerical stability has been incorporated in the algorithm for better precision of the results computed. The quantitative analyses have been carried out finally with the inclusion of the respective profiles of the flow field over the entire arterial segment as well. The key factors such as the wall shear stress, the pressure drop and the velocity profiles are exhibited graphically and examined thoroughly for qualitative insight into blood flow phenomena through arterial stenosis.  相似文献

An unsteady mathematical model to study the characteristics of blood flowing through an arterial segment in the presence of a couple of stenoses with surface irregularities is developed. The flow is treated to be axisymmetric, with an outline of the stenoses obtained from a three dimensional casting of a mildly stenosed artery [1], so that the flow effectively becomes two-dimensional. The governing equations of motion accompanied by appropriate choice of boundary and initial conditions are solved numerically by MAC (Marker and Cell) method in cylindrical polar coordinate system in staggered grids and checked numerical stability with desired degree of accuracy. The pressure-Poisson equation has been solved by successive-over-relaxation (SOR) method and the pressure–velocity correction formulae have been derived. The flexibility of the arterial wall has also been accounted for in the present investigation. Further, in-depth study in the flow pattern reveals that the separation Reynolds number for the multi-irregular stenoses is lower than those for cosine-shaped stenoses and a long single irregular stenosis. The present results predict the excess pressure drop across the cosine stenoses than the irregular ones and show quite consistency with several existing results in the literature which substantiate sufficiently to validate the applicability of the model under consideration.  相似文献

In medicine a fundamental understanding for blood flow in human arteries is significantly important. In socalled hemodynamics engineers all over the world simulate blood flows in healthy and diseased vessels. Scientific findings in this area help to improve cardiovascular assisting devices and to plan surgical operations. The difficulty with such simulations is the interaction of the blood flow with the elastic vessel wall, which deforms due to changing flow conditions. We will present a two-dimensional model for blood flowing through an arterial vessel and investigate the balance of mass and the balance of linear momentum. We will adjust these balance equations appropriately and define time dependent boundary conditions. The necessary partial differential equations for the fluid-structure interaction will be solved by using the finite element method in FEniCS [1]. (© 2013 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The intention of the present work is to carry out a systematic analysis of flow features in a tube, modelled as artery, having a local aneurysm in presence of haematocrit. The arterial model is treated to be axi-symmetric and rigid. The blood, flowing through the modelled artery, is treated to be Newtonian and non-homogeneous. For a thorough quantitative analysis of the flow characteristics such as wall pressure, flow velocity, wall shear stress, the unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in cylindrical polar co-ordinates under the laminar flow conditions are solved by using the finite-difference method. Finally, the numerical illustrations presented in this paper provide an effective measure to estimate the combined influence of haematocrit and aneurysm on flow characteristics. It is found that the magnitude of wall shear stress and also the length of separation increase with increasing values of the haematocrit parameter. The length of flow separation increases but the peak value of wall shear stress decreases with the increasing length of aneurysm. The peak value of wall shear stress as well as the length of separation increases with the increasing height of the aneurysm.  相似文献

In this article, we present a model of heat transfer occurring through a liquid film flowing down a vertical wall. This new model is formally derived using the method of asymptotic expansions by introducing appropriately chosen dimensionless variables. In our study the small parameter, known as the film parameter, is chosen as the ratio of the flow depth to the characteristic wavelength. A new Nusselt solution is obtained, taking into account the hydrodynamic free surface variations and the contributions of the higher order terms coming from temperature variation effects. Comparisons are made with numerical solutions of the full Fourier equations in a steady state frame. The flow and heat transfer are coupled through Marangoni and temperature dependent viscosity effects. Even if these effects have been considered separately before, here a fully coupled model is proposed. Another novelty consists in the asymptotic approach in contrast to the weighted residual approach which have been formerly applied to these problems.  相似文献

Of concern in the paper is a theoretical study of blood flow in an arterial segment in the presence of a time-dependent overlapping stenosis using an appropriate mathematical model. A remarkably new shape of the stenosis in the realm of the formation of the arterial narrowing caused by atheroma is constructed mathematically. The artery is simulated as an elastic (moving wall) cylindrical tube containing a viscoelastic fluid representing blood. The unsteady flow mechanism of the present investigation is subjected to a pulsatile pressure gradient arising from the normal functioning of the heart. The equations governing the motion of the system are sought in the Laplace transform space and their relevant solutions supplemented by the suitable boundary conditions are obtained numerically in the transformed domain through the use of an appropriate finite difference technique. Laplace inversion is also carried out by employing numerical techniques. A thorough quantitative analysis is performed at the end of the paper for the flow velocity, the flux, the resistive impedances, and the wall shear stresses together with their variations with the time, the pressure gradient, and the severity of the stenosis in order to illustrate the applicability of the present mathematical model under consideration.

Magneto-hydrodynamics and thermal radiation effects on heat and mass transfer in steady laminar boundary layer flow of a Newtonian, viscous fluid over a vertical flat plate embedded in a fluid saturated porous media in the presence of the thermophoresis particle deposition effect is studied in this paper. The governing equations are transformed by special transformations. Brownian motion of particles and thermophoretic transport are considered in the flow equations. The magnetic field is considered to be applied. Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The resulting similarity equations are solved numerically by the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method with shooting technique. Many results are obtained and representative set is displayed graphically to illustrate the influence of the various parameters on the wall thermophoretic deposition velocity, concentration, temperature and velocity profiles.  相似文献

The results from a 3D non-linear kε turbulence model with vegetation are presented to investigate the flow structure, the velocity distribution and mass transport process in a straight compound open channel and a curved open channel. The 3D numerical model for calculating flow is set up in non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates in order to calculate the complex boundary channel. The finite volume method is used to disperse the governing equations and the SIMPLEC algorithm is applied to acquire the coupling of velocity and pressure. The non-linear kε turbulent model has good useful value because of taking into account the anisotropy and not increasing the computational time. The water level of this model is determined from 2D Poisson equation derived from 2D depth-averaged momentum equations. For concentration simulation, an expression for dispersion through vegetation is derived in the present work for the mixing due to flow over vegetation. The simulated results are in good agreement with available experimental data, which indicates that the developed 3D model can predict the flow structure and mass transport in the open channel with vegetation.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the heat transfer of a viscous fluid flow over a stretching/shrinking sheet with a convective boundary condition. Based on the exact solutions of the momentum equations, which are valid for the whole Navier–Stokes equations, the energy equation ignoring viscous dissipation is solved exactly and the effects of the mass transfer parameter, the Prandtl number, and the wall stretching/shrinking parameter on the temperature profiles and wall heat flux are presented and discussed. The solution is given as an incomplete Gamma function. It is found the convective boundary conditions results in temperature slip at the wall and this temperature slip is greatly affected by the mass transfer parameter, the Prandtl number, and the wall stretching/shrinking parameters. The temperature profiles in the fluid are also quite different from the prescribed wall temperature cases.  相似文献

The effect of chemical reaction and variable viscosity on hydromagnetic mixed convection heat and mass transfer for Hiemenz flow through porous media has been studied in the presence of radiation and magnetic field. The plate surface is embedded in a uniform Darcian porous medium in order to allow for possible fluid wall suction or blowing and has a power-law variation of both the wall temperature and concentration. The similarity solution is used to transform the system of partial differential equations, describing the problem under consideration, into a boundary value problem of coupled ordinary differential equations, and an efficient numerical technique is implemented to solve the reduced system. Numerical calculations are carried out, for various values of the dimensionless parameters of the problem, which include a variable viscosity, chemical reactions, radiation, magnetic field, porous medium and power index of the wall temperature parameters. Comparisons with previously published works are performed and excellent agreement between the results is obtained. The results are presented graphically and the conclusion is drawn that the flow field and other quantities of physical interest are significantly influenced by these parameters.  相似文献

We present a one-dimensional model describing the blood flow through a moderately curved and elastic blood vessel. We use an existing two dimensional model of the vessel wall along with Navier−Stokes equations to model the flow through the channel while taking factors, namely, surrounding muscle tissue and presence of external forces other than gravity into account. Our model is obtained via a dimension reduction procedure based on the assumption of thinness of the vessel relative to its length. Results of numerical simulations are presented to highlight the influence of different factors on the blood flow.  相似文献

In this present article an analysis is carried out to study the boundary layer flow behavior and heat transfer characteristics in Walter’s liquid B fluid flow. The stretching sheet is assumed to be impermeable, the effects of viscous dissipation, non-uniform heat source/sink in the presence and in the absence of elastic deformation (which was escaped from attention of researchers while formulating the viscoelastic boundary layer flow problems)on heat transfer are addressed. The basic boundary layer equations for momentum and heat transfer, which are non-linear partial differential equations, are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations by means of similarity transformation. Analytical solutions are obtained for the resulting boundary value problems. The effects of viscous dissipation, Prandtl number, Eckert number and non-uniform heat source/sink on heat transfer (in the presence and in the absence of elastic deformation) are shown in several plots and discussed. Analytical expressions for the wall frictional drag coefficient, non-dimensional wall temperature gradient and non-dimensional wall temperature are obtained and are tabulated for various values of the governing parameters. The present study reveals that, the presence of work done by deformation in the energy equation yields an augment in the fluid’s temperature.  相似文献

A mathematical analysis has been carried out to study magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow, heat and mass transfer characteristic on steady two-dimensional flow of a micropolar fluid over a stretching sheet embedded in a non-Darcian porous medium with uniform magnetic field. Momentum boundary layer equation takes into account of transverse magnetic field whereas energy equation takes into account of Ohmic dissipation due to transverse magnetic field, thermal radiation and non-uniform source effects. An analysis has been performed for heating process namely the prescribed wall heat flux (PHF case). The governing system of partial differential equations is first transformed into a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation. The transformed equations are non-linear coupled differential equations which are then linearized by quasi-linearization method and solved very efficiently by finite-difference method. Favorable comparisons with previously published work on various special cases of the problem are obtained. The effects of various physical parameters on velocity, temperature, concentration distributions are presented graphically and in tabular form.  相似文献

Current research models the Al2O3 47nm and Al2O3 36nm nanoparticles transportation through peristalsis with entropy optimization. Conservation laws for mass, momentum and energy are used to model the present flow situation. These equations elaborates the magnetohydrodynamics, Hall, thermal radiation, Joule heating, heat generation and absorption. Convective heat transfer impacts are studied at channel walls. Entropy is modeled in view of thermodynamics second law. Two different expressions for effective viscosity are accounted. Simplification of the modeled equations is done through lubrication assumptions. Solution for momentum equation is obtained analytically and for numerically for temperature equation. Built-in shooting procedure is utilized to obtain the desired numerical results. Later on these obtained results are used to sketch and discussed the flow quantities of interest for the influential parameters accounted in the problem.  相似文献

In this paper, a two-dimensional finite volume unstructured mesh method (FVUM) based on a triangular background interpolation mesh is developed for analysing the evolution of the saltwater intrusion into single and multiple coastal aquifer systems. The model formulation consists of a ground-water flow equation and a salt transport equation. These coupled and non-linear partial differential equations are transformed by FVUM into a system of differential/algebraic equations, which is solved using backward differentiation formulas of order one through five. Simulation results are compared with previously published solutions where good agreement is observed.  相似文献

In this paper a mathematical model for the viscose wet spinning process is presented: We consider a single fibre, which is produced by pressing a basic solution of viscose into a bath containing sulphuric acid. H2SO4 diffuses into the viscose solution and reacts with the natrium hydroxide so that a solidifying fibre is formed which is pulled through the bath by drives. Due to the movement of the fibre and of diffusive transport of sulphuric acid into the fibre velocity and concentration boundary layers develop. Starting from the laminar boundary layer equations we investigate the flow and concentration fields in the bath induced by the fibre utilizing the Local Non‐Similarity method. Mass transfer in the fibre is modelled by transport equations for sulphuric acid and natrium hydroxide taking into account the neutralization reaction. The model of the fibre is coupled to the bath phase model by appropriate boundary conditions for the mass flow density and the chemical potential of sulphuric acid. The non‐constant diameter of the fibre is taken into account by a perturbation approach.  相似文献

An analysis is performed for non-Darcy free convection flow of an electrically conducting fluid over an impermeable vertical plate embedded in a thermally stratified, fluid saturated porous medium for the case of power-law surface temperature. The present work examines the effects of non-Darcian flow phenomena, variable viscosity, Hartmann–Darcy number and thermal stratification on free convective transport and demonstrates the variation in heat transfer prediction based on three different flow models. The wall effect on porosity variation is approximated by an exponential function. The effects of thermal dispersion and variable stagnant thermal conductivity are taken into consideration in the energy equation. The resulting non-similar system of equations is solved using a finite difference method. Results are presented for velocity, temperature profiles and local Nusselt number for representative values of different controlling parameters.  相似文献
