In a UMD Banach space E, we consider a boundary value problem for a second order elliptic differential-operator equation with a spectral parameter when one of the boundary conditions, in the principal part, contains a linear unbounded operator in E. A theorem on an isomorphism is proved and an appropriate estimate of the solution with respect to the space variable and the spectral parameter is obtained. In this way, Fredholm property of the problem is shown. Moreover, discreteness of the spectrum and completeness of a system of root functions corresponding to the homogeneous problem are established. Finally, applications of obtained abstract results to nonlocal boundary value problems for elliptic differential equations with a parameter in non-smooth domains are given.  相似文献

In this paper we find conditions that guarantee that irregular boundary value problems for elliptic differential-operator equations of the second order in an interval are coercive with a defect and fredholm; compactness of a resolvent and estimations by spectral parameter; completeness of root functions. We apply this result to find some algebraic conditions that guarantee that irregular boundary value problems for elliptic partial differential equations of the second order in cylindrical domains have the same properties. Apparently this is the first paper where the regularity of an elliptic boundary value problem is not satisfied on a manifold of the dimension equal to the dimension of the boundary. Nevertheless, the problem is fredholm and the resolvent is compact. It is interesting to note that the considered boundary value problems for elliptic equations in a cylinder being with separating variables are noncoercive. In a Hilbert space H, we study the solvability of boundary value problems for second-order elliptic differential-operator equations with a spectral parameter and with a discontinuous (piecewise constant) coefficient at the highest derivative. At the point of discontinuity, we find a transmission condition, which contains a linear unbounded operator. We present an application of the results to elliptic boundary value problems.  相似文献

The asymptotic behavior of eigenvalues of a boundary value problem for a secondorder differential-operator equation in a separable Hilbert space on a finite interval is studied for the case in which the same spectral parameter occurs linearly in the equation and quadratically in one of the boundary conditions. We prove that the problem has a sequence of eigenvalues converging to zero.  相似文献

We give some simple algebraic conditions on the coefficients of a boundary value problem for a differential equations of Ventcel type, depending on a spectral parameter, which guarantee the existence, uniqueness of a solution and coerciveness estimate, for a spectral parameter lying in some sector.  相似文献

Parametrices of elliptic boundary value problems for differential operators belong to an algebra of pseudodifferential operators with the transmission property at the boundary. However, generically, smooth symbols on a manifold with boundary do not have this property, and several interesting applications require a corresponding more general calculus. We introduce here a new algebra of boundary value problems that contains Shapiro-Lopatinskij elliptic as well as global projection conditions; the latter ones are necessary, if an analogue of the Atiyah-Bott obstruction does not vanish. We show that every elliptic operator admits (up to a stabilisation) elliptic conditions of that kind. Corresponding boundary value problems are then Fredholm in adequate scales of spaces. Moreover, we construct parametrices in the calculus.  相似文献

General elliptic boundary value problems with the spectral parameter appearing linearly both in the elliptic equation and in boundary conditions are considered. It is proved that the corresponding matrix operator from the Boutet de Monvel algebra is similar to an almost diagonal operator. This result is applied to prove the completeness and the summability (in the sense of Abel) of the root vectors of this operator. The support of the Rashi Foundation is gratefully acknowledged. The support of the Israel Ministry of Science and Technology is gratefully acknowledged.  相似文献

We study boundary value problems posed in a semistrip for the elliptic sine-Gordon equation, which is the paradigm of an elliptic integrable PDE in two variables. We use the method introduced by one of the authors, which provides a substantial generalization of the inverse scattering transform and can be used for the analysis of boundary as opposed to initial-value problems. We first express the solution in terms of a 2×2 matrix Riemann–Hilbert problem whose “jump matrix” depends on both the Dirichlet and the Neumann boundary values. For a well posed problem one of these boundary values is an unknown function. This unknown function is characterised in terms of the so-called global relation, but in general this characterisation is nonlinear. We then concentrate on the case that the prescribed boundary conditions are zero along the unbounded sides of a semistrip and constant along the bounded side. This corresponds to a case of the so-called linearisable boundary conditions, however, a major difficulty for this problem is the existence of non-integrable singularities of the function q y at the two corners of the semistrip; these singularities are generated by the discontinuities of the boundary condition at these corners. Motivated by the recent solution of the analogous problem for the modified Helmholtz equation, we introduce an appropriate regularisation which overcomes this difficulty. Furthermore, by mapping the basic Riemann–Hilbert problem to an equivalent modified Riemann–Hilbert problem, we show that the solution can be expressed in terms of a 2×2 matrix Riemann–Hilbert problem whose “jump matrix” depends explicitly on the width of the semistrip L, on the constant value d of the solution along the bounded side, and on the residues at the given poles of a certain spectral function denoted by h(λ). The determination of the function h remains open.  相似文献

We define a class of boundary value problems on manifolds with fibered boundary. This class is in a certain sense a deformation between the classical boundary value problems and the Atiyah–Patodi–Singer problems in subspaces (it contains both as special cases). The boundary conditions in this theory are taken as elements of the C *‐algebra generated by pseudodifferential operators and families of pseudodifferential operators in the fibers. We prove the Fredholm property for elliptic boundary value problems and compute a topological obstruction (similar to Atiyah–Bott obstruction) to the existence of elliptic boundary conditions for a given elliptic operator. Geometric operators with trivial and nontrivial obstruction are given. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

In this study, a Birkhoff-irregular boundary value problem for linear ordinary differential equations of the second order with discontinuous coefficients and the spectral parameter has been considered. Therefore, at the discontinuous point, two additional boundary conditions (called transmission conditions) have been added to the boundary conditions. The eigenvalue parameter is of the second degree in the differential equation and of the first degree in a boundary condition. The equation contains an abstract linear operator which is (usually) unbounded in the space Lq(−1, 1). Isomorphism and coerciveness with defects 1 and 2 are proved for this problem. The case of the biharmonic equation is also studied.  相似文献

Under study are the two classes of elliptic spectral problems with homogeneous Dirichlet conditions and discontinuous nonlinearities (the parameter occurs in the nonlinearity multiplicatively). In the former case the nonlinearity is nonnegative and vanishes for the values of the phase variable not exceeding some positive number c; it has linear growth at infinity in the phase variable u and the only discontinuity at u = c. We prove that for every spectral parameter greater than the minimal eigenvalue of the differential part of the equation with the homogeneous Dirichlet condition, the corresponding boundary value problem has a nontrivial strong solution. The corresponding free boundary in this case is of zero measure. A lower estimate for the spectral parameter is established as well. In the latter case the differential part of the equation is formally selfadjoint and the nonlinearity has sublinear growth at infinity. Some upper estimate for the spectral parameter is given in this case.  相似文献

We consider a boundary value problem generated by the Sturm-Liouville equation on a finite interval. Both the equation and the boundary conditions depend quadratically on the spectral parameter. This boundary value problem occurs in the theory of small vibrations of a damped string. The inverse problem, i.e., the problem of recovering the equation and the boundary conditions from the given spectrum, is solved.  相似文献

N. Dunford and J.T. Schwartz (1963) striking Hilbert space theory about completeness of a system of root vectors (generalized eigenvectors) of an unbounded operator has been generalized by J. Burgoyne (1995) to the Banach spaces framework. We use the Burgoyne's theorem and prove n-fold completeness of a system of root vectors of a system of unbounded polynomial operator pencils in Banach spaces. The theory will allow to consider, in application, boundary value problems for ODEs and elliptic PDEs which polynomially depend on the spectral parameter in both the equation and the boundary conditions.  相似文献

In this series of three papers we study singularly perturbed (SP) boundary value problems for equations of elliptic and parabolic type. For small values of the perturbation parameter parabolic boundary and interior layers appear in these problems. If classical discretisation methods are used, the solution of the finite difference scheme and the approximation of the diffusive flux do not converge uniformly with respect to this parameter. Using the method of special, adapted grids, we can construct difference schemes that allow approximation of the solution and the normalised diffusive flux uniformly with respect to the small parameter. We also consider singularly perturbed boundary value problems for convection-diffusion equations. Also for these problems we construct special finite difference schemes, the solution of which converges $ε$-uniformly. We study what problems appear, when classical schemes are used for the approximation of the spatial derivatives. We compare the results with those obtained by the adapted approach. Results of numerical experiments are discussed. In the three papers we first give an introduction on the general problem, and then we consider respectively (i) Problems for SP parabolic equations, for which the solution and the normalised diffusive fluxes are required; (ii) Problems for SP elliptic equations with boundary conditions of Dirichlet, Neumann and Robin type; (iii) Problems for SP parabolic equation with discontinuous boundary conditions.  相似文献

We consider boundary value problems and transmission problems for strongly elliptic second-order systems with boundary conditions on a compact nonclosed Lipschitz surface S with Lipschitz boundary. The main goal is to find conditions for the unique solvability of these problems in the spaces H s , the simplest L 2-spaces of the Sobolev type, with the use of potential type operators on S. We also discuss, first, the regularity of solutions in somewhat more general Bessel potential spaces and Besov spaces and, second, the spectral properties of problems with spectral parameter in the transmission conditions on S, including the asymptotics of the eigenvalues.  相似文献

We consider spectral boundary value problems of Steklov, Neumann, and Dirichlet types for second-order elliptic operators with ε-periodic coefficients in a perforated cube; the coefficients of the differential equations are assumed to satisfy some symmetry conditions. Complete asymptotic expansions with respect to the small parameter ε are constructed for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the said problems. Bibliography: 24 titles.
