An eco-friendly chemical reduction method was successfully used for the preparation of chitosan (CTS) composite films loaded with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by self assembly method using poly(ethylene glycol) as both reducing and stabilizing agent. UV-Vis spectra of the prepared chitosan loaded silver nanoparticles (CTSLAg) films reveal that full reduction of silver ions to silver nanoparticles takes place at 90 °C. The effect of reaction conditions on the silver nanoparticles formation was investigated using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The morphology of the films was tested by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The DSC curves showed that the CTSLAg film had a favorable compatibility and heat stability. AgNPs were confirmed by XRD and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The TEM findings revealed that the silver nanoparticles synthesized were spherical in shape with uniform dispersal, and by increasing CTS:PEG ratio larger silver nanoparticles could be obtained. The results of antibacterial study reveal that the prepared nanocomposite films exhibited potential inhibition.  相似文献

We describe herein studies on as-prepared hydrophobic ZnS-CdSe quantum dots (QDs) at the air-water interface. Surface pressure-area (pi-A) isotherms have been used to study the monolayer behavior. Uniform, lamellar multilayer thin films of QDs were deposited by the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. The role of two different surfactant systems commonly employed in the synthesis of these QDs (trioctylphosphine oxide-octadecylamine (TOPO-ODA) system and trioctylphosphine oxide-tetradecylphosphonic acid (TOPO-TDPA) system) on the monolayer behavior and the quality of thin films produced has been investigated. The thin films were characterized by quartz crystal microgravimetry (QCM), contact angle measurements, fluorescence spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These QD films were further modified by an amphiphilic polymer, poly(maleic anhydride-alt-1-tetradecene) (PMA). The hydrophobic interaction between the polymers and the surfactants attached to the QDs drove the self-assembly process. The carboxylic acid functional groups in the polymer were also used to immobilize avidin. We have demonstrated a proof of concept for the biosensing strategy wherein the avidin-coated QD films attracted biotinylated gold nanoparticles, resulting in fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) quenching of the thin films.  相似文献

Ultrathin multilayer films of a rare-earth-containing polyoxometalate Na9[Eu(W5O18)2](EW) and poly (allymamine hydrochloride)(PAH) have been prepared by layer-by-layer self-assembly from dilute aqueous solution. The fabrication process of the EW/PAH multilaryer films was followed by UV-vis spectroscopy and ellipsometry, which show that the deposition process is linear and highly reproducible from layer to layer. An average EW/PAH bilayer thickness of ca.2.1nm was determined by ellipsometry. In addition, the scanning electron microscopy(SEM) image of the EW/PAH film indicates that the film surface is relatively uniform and smooth. The photoluminescent properties of these films were also investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy.  相似文献

This contribution reports the design, preparation, and characterization of nanostructured hybrid films of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and a tailored nitric oxide (NO) photodonor. They were achieved by exploiting effective interfacial interactions between an amino-terminated NO photodonor spread onto water surface and naked AgNPs dissolved in the water subphase. The morphology, the spectroscopic features, and the interaction between the two components in the floating films at the air/water interface were inspected by Brewster Angle Microscopy, UV-Vis reflection, and polarization-modulation infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy. AgNPs and the NO photodonor were successfully transferred onto hydrophobized quartz substrates by horizontal lifting deposition and the resulting multilayer films were characterized by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy, respectively. The results obtained showed the presence of both isolated AgNPs and assemblies of AgNPs having nanodimensional character in the films. The photochemical properties of the NO photodonor were well preserved in the hybrid multilayers. In fact, they were able to release NO under visible light excitation, as unambiguously demonstrated by the direct and in real-time monitoring of this transient species using an ultrasensitive electrode, and the transfer of the released NO to a protein such as myoglobin.  相似文献

Prussian blue (PB) nanoparticles were immobilized in polyelectrolyte (PE) multilayers of various compositions and thickness. Films containing nanoparticles and poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) were formed using the layer-by-layer adsorption method. A layer of branched poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI) was used to anchor the multilayer structure at the surface of a gold electrode. The films exhibited electroactive properties, increasing with the number of deposited PB layers. The properties of PEI/(PB/PAH) n multilayers were then compared with the ones containing additionally the conductive polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)–poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). We found that the addition of the conductive, water-soluble polymer enhances the electroactive properties of the multilayer films. It also increased sensitivity of the multilayer-covered electrodes for electrochemical detection of hydrogen peroxide.  相似文献

We report the influence of polyelectrolyte (PE) multilayer films prepared from poly(styrene sulfonate)-poly(acrylic acid) (PSS-PAA) blends, deposited in alternation with poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH), on film wettability and the adsorption behavior of the protein immunoglobulin G (IgG). Variations in the chemical composition of the PAH/(PSS-PAA) multilayer films, controlled by the PSS/PAA blend ratio in the dipping solutions, were used to systematically control film thickness, surface morphology, surface wettability, and IgG adsorption. Spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements indicate that increasing the PSS content in the blend solutions results in a systematic decrease in film thickness. Increasing the PSS content in the blend solutions also leads to a reduction in film surface roughness (as measured by atomic force microscopy), with a corresponding increase in surface hydrophobicity. Advancing contact angles (theta) range from 7 degrees for PAH/PAA films through to 53 degrees for PAH/PSS films. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements indicate that the increase in film hydrophobicity is due to an increase in PSS concentration at the film surface. In addition, the influence of added electrolyte in the PE solutions was investigated. Adsorption from PE solutions containing added salt favors PSS adsorption and results in more hydrophobic films. The amount of IgG adsorbed on the multilayer films systematically increased on films assembled from blends with increasing PSS content, suggesting strong interactions between PSS in the multilayer films and IgG. Hence, multilayer films prepared from blended PE solutions can be used to tune film thickness and composition, as well as wetting and protein adsorption characteristics.  相似文献

ZnO nanoparticle quantum dots (QDs)/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) composites are synthesized by conventional radical polymerization in the presence of 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate (TPM)-modified ZnO nanoparticle QDs. Although unmodified ZnO nanoparticle QDs were precipitated in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and show only weak emissions under UV irradiation, ZnO nanoparticle QDs/PMMA composite is well dispersed in THF and shows high emissions. TPM acts as the stabilizer and promotes the compatibility between the ZnO nanoparticle QDs and the PMMA matrix. After evaporation of THF from the ZnO nanoparticle QDs/PMMA composite solution, transparent polymeric hybrid films of ZnO nanoparticle QDs and PMMA are obtained. These polymeric hybrid films are characterized by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and thermogravimetric analysis. The hybrid film exhibited a high quantum yield and PL emission under ultraviolet excitation. PL emission has been successfully tuned from blue to yellow.  相似文献

Based on hydrogen-bonding layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly in aqueous solution, poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVPON) and a spherical polymer brush with a poly(methylsilsesquioxane) (PSQ) core and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) hair chains were used to fabricate composite multilayer thin films. Hydrogen bonding as the driving force was confirmed by FT-IR spectrometry. A simple method (Filmetric F20) was introduced to determine the thickness and refractive index of the films. The film thickness was found to be a linear function of the number of bilayers. The average increase in thickness per bilayer is 28.3 nm. The film morphology was characterized with scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The images obtained from the two instruments show a great resemblance. The films were further calcined to get an inorganic film by removing the organic components, or treated with tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF) to remove the PSQ core and get an organic film. The optical properties and morphological changes induced by these treatments were also studied.  相似文献

Ultrathin multilayer films of two lanthanide polyoxometalates (LPOMs), K(17)[Eu(P(2)W(17)O(61))(2)] (EPW) and K(13)[Eu(SiW(11)O(39))(2)] (ESW), and poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) have been prepared by layer-by-layer self-assembly from dilute aqueous solutions. UV-vis spectroscopy and ellipsometry respectively show that the absorbance values at characteristic wavelengths and the thicknesses of the multilayer films increase linearly with the number of LPOM/PAH bilayers, suggesting that the deposition process is linear and highly reproducible from layer to layer. Average thicknesses of ca. 3.4 and 2.4 nm were determined for the EPW/PAH and ESW/PAH bilayers by ellipsometry, respectively. In addition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) images provide the surface morphology of the LPOM/PAH films, indicating that the film surface is relatively uniform and smooth. The photoluminescent properties of these films have also been investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy. The LPOM/PAH multilayer film has a good thermal stability as shown by UV-vis, X-ray photoelectron, and fluorescence spectra.  相似文献

Polymer/Au nanoparticle multilayer ultrathin films are fabricated via hydrogen-bonding interaction by a layer-by-layer technique. The Au nanoparticles surface-modified with pyridine groups of poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PVP) are prepared in dimethyl formamide (DMF). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image shows that uniform nanoparticles are dispersed in the PVP chains. Poly(3-thiophene acetic acid) (PTAA) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) are utilized to form hydrogen bonds with PVP, respectively. Considering the pH-sensitive dissociation behavior of PTAA and PAA, we investigate the release behavior of the Au-containing multilayers at different pH values in this work. UV-vis spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM) are employed to monitor the buildup and the release of the multilayers. The results indicate that in the films assembled with gold nanoparticles, the polymers are difficult to be removed from the substrate. The interaction between the gold particles and the neighboring PVP chains is responsible for the phenomenon. Gold particles act as physical cross-link points in the multilayers. Due to the additional interaction caused by the gold nanoparticles in the films except the hydrogen-bonding interaction between PTAA (or PAA) and PVP, the stability of the Au-containing multilayer film is ensured even though the changes in pH values may result in the break of the hydrogen bonds.  相似文献

Trioctylphosphine oxide- (TOPO-) capped (CdSe)ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were prepared through a stepwise synthesis. The surface chemistry behavior of the QDs at the air-water interface was carefully examined by various physical measurements. The surface pressure-area isotherm of the Langmuir film of the QDs gave an average diameter of 4.4 nm, which matched very well with the value determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements if the thickness of the TOPO cap was counted. The stability of the Langmuir film of the QDs was tested by two different methods, compression/decompression cycling and kinetic measurements, both of which indicated that TOPO-capped (CdSe)ZnS QDs can form stable Langmuir films at the air-water interface. Epifluorescence microscopy revealed the two-dimensional aggregation of the QDs in Langmuir films during the early stage of the compression process. However, at high surface pressures, the Langmuir film of QDs was more homogeneous and was capable of being deposited on a hydrophobic quartz slide by the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film technique. Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy was utilized to characterize the LB films. The PL intensity of the LB film of QDs at the first emission maximum was found to increase linearly with increasing number of layers deposited onto the hydrophobic quartz slide, which implied a homogeneous deposition of the Langmuir film of QDs at surface pressures greater than 20 mN.m(-1).  相似文献

The influence of attaching hydrophobic side groups to a polyelectrolyte, used for deposition of a multilayer oxygen gas barrier thin film, was investigated. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) was labeled with pyrene and deposited in “quadlayers” of PEI, poly(acrylic acid), PEI, and sodium montmorillonite clay using layer‐by‐layer assembly. Thin films made of three repeating quadlayers using unmodified PEI had much lower density (1.24 g/cm3) than pyrene‐labeled PEI‐based films (1.45 g/cm3), which is believed to be the result of greater chain coiling from the increased hydrophobicity of pendant pyrene groups. This increased density in pyrene‐labeled PEI layers allowed three quadlayers to match the oxygen transmission rate of a four quadlayer film made with unmodified PEI. This discovery provides an additional tool for tailoring the barrier behavior of clay‐based multilayer thin films that could prove useful for a variety of packaging applications. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel and facile preparation method for layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembled films incorporating quantum dots (QDs) and having intense photoluminescence (PL) from blue to red is presented. Functional sol-gel-derived glass layers prepared by the hydrolysis of 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APS) or 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS) have been used as a linkage between QD layers. Absorption, PL spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy were employed for characterization, which revealed that the QDs in the prepared films had a nearly close-packed coverage and were not aggregated. The PL efficiencies of the QDs (CdTe or ZnSe, both are thioglycolic acid-stabilized) dispersed in the films were roughly half that of the initial colloidal solutions but reached 24% before a refractive index correction. The thickness of the red-emitting film with 10 CdTe QD layers was approximately 50 nm. The concentration of QDs in the film derived from the first absorption peak was approximately 0.01 M. Because the PL starts to show a red shift, the obtained concentration is practically the ultimate one in the glass matrix. The mercapto, amino, and carboxyl groups play important roles in LbL self-assembling processes.  相似文献

Polyelectrolyte multilayer thin films were prepared via the alternate deposition of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and a blend of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS). When the pH of the blend solution was 3.5, the presence of PAA in this solution significantly increased the total film thickness. With only 10 wt % PAA in the blend adsorption solution, a large increase in film thickness was observed (92 nm cf. 18 nm). It was also demonstrated that the total amount of PSS adsorbed was enhanced by the presence of PAA in the blend solution, showing that the blend solution composition influenced that of the multilayer films. Thin films prepared with nanoblended layers also showed improved pH stability, because they exhibited reduced film rearrangement upon exposure to acidic conditions (pH = 2.5).  相似文献

Temperature- and pH-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)?Cco-acrylic acid (pNIPAm-co-AAc) microgels were deposited on glass substrates coated with polyelectrolyte multilayers composed of the polycation poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and the polyanion poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS). The microgel density and structure of the resultant films were investigated as a function of: (1) the number of PAH/PSS layers (layer thickness); (2) the charge on the outer layer of the polyelectrolyte multilayer film; and (3) the pH of microgel deposition solution. The resultant films were studied by differential interference contrast optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the coverage of the microgels on the surface was a complex function of the pH of the deposition solution, the charge on the outer layer of the polyelectrolyte thin film and the PAH/PSS layer thickness; although it appears that microgel charge plays the biggest role in determining the resultant surface coverage.  相似文献

Two negatively charged polyelectrolyte complex colloidal nanoparticles (PEC) and one positively charged nanoparticle (PEC+) were prepared and used as novel layer-by-layer (LbL) building blocks. These PEC nanoparticles include poly(2-methacryloyloxy ethyl trimethylammonium chloride)/sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (PDMC/CMCNa PEC), poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride)/CMCNa (PDDA/CMCNa PEC) and PDDA/poly(sodium-p-styrenesulfonate) (PDDA/PSS PEC+). LbL multilayer films based on (PEC+/PEC) were constructed on both quartz slides and modified polyamide (MPA) reverse osmosis support membranes. UV–vis spectroscopy, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), field emission scanning microscopy (FESEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were utilized to follow the thickness growth and morphology evolution of these multilayer films with increasing bi-layer numbers. LbL multilayer films deposited on MPA support membranes were subjected to pervaporation dehydration of 10 wt% water–isopropanol and effect of bi-layer numbers and feed temperature on pervaporation performance was studied. Generally, PEC+/PEC can be LbL self-assembled successfully on both substrates with a thickness growth rate ca. 200 nm/bi-layer. Moreover, PEC+/PEC multilayer films show high pervaporation performance with film thickness up to several micrometers. For example, performance of the multilayer films in dehydrating 10 wt% water–isopropanol at 50 °C is J = 1.18 kg/m2 h, α = 1013 for (PEC+/PDMC-CMCNa PEC)24 and J = 1.36 kg/m2 h, α = 938 for (PEC+/PDMC-CMCNa PEC)25, respectively.  相似文献

Multilayer films containing microgels of chemically cross-linked poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and dextran (named PAH-D) were fabricated by layer-by-layer deposition of PAH-D and poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS). The successful fabrication of PAH-D/PSS multilayer films was verified by quartz crystal microbalance measurements and cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy. The as-prepared PAH-D/PSS multilayer films can reversibly load and release negatively charged dyes such as methyl orange (MO) and fluorescein sodium and mercaptoacetic acid-stabilized CdTe nanoparticles. The loading capacity of the film for MO can be as large as approximately 3.0 microg/cm2 per bilayer, which corresponds to a MO density of 0.75 g/cm3 in the film. The high loading capacity of the PAH-D/PSS films originates from the cross-linked film structure with sufficient binding groups of protonated amine groups, as well as their high swelling capability by solvent. The loaded material can be released slowly when immersing the films in 0.9% normal saline. Meanwhile, the PAH-D/PSS multilayer films could deposit directly on either hydrophilic or hydrophobic substrates such as quartz, polytetrafluoroethylene, polystyrene, poly(ethylene terephthalate), and polypropylene. The microgel films of PAH-D/PSS are expected to be widely useful as matrixes for loading functional guest materials and even for controlled release.  相似文献
