The present paper deals with the problem of calculating queue length distributions in a polling model with (exhaustive) k-limited service under the assumption of general arrival, service and setup distributions. The interest for this model is fueled by an application in the field of logistics. Knowledge of the queue length distributions is needed to operate the system properly. The multi-queue polling system is decomposed into single-queue vacation systems with k-limited service and state-dependent vacations, for which the vacation distributions are computed in an iterative approximate manner. These vacation models are analyzed via matrix-analytic techniques. The accuracy of the approximation scheme is verified by means of an extensive simulation study. The developed approximation turns out to be accurate, robust and computationally efficient. We study an M/G/1 processor sharing queue with multiple vacations. The server only takes a vacation when the system has become empty. If he finds the system still empty upon return, he takes another vacation, and so on. Successive vacations are identically distributed, with a general distribution. When the service requirements are exponentially distributed we determine the sojourn time distribution of an arbitrary customer. We also show how the same approach can be used to determine the sojourn time distribution in an M/M/1-PS queue of a polling model, under the following constraints: the service discipline at that queue is exhaustive service, the service discipline at each of the other queues satisfies a so-called branching property, and the arrival processes at the various queues are independent Poisson processes. For a general service requirement distribution we investigate both the vacation queue and the polling model, restricting ourselves to the mean sojourn time.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyse a queueing system where the server may take a vacation. The customers arrive at the service facility according to a Poisson process, and are served if the server is available (not on vacation). We consider two models: when the server vacation cycle is independent of and dependent on the number of customers in the system. The infinitesimal generators of the underlying Markov processes have a block tri-diagonal structure, and we provide a matrix geometric solution. When the vacation cycle is independent of the customer queue length, we present a simple load-dependent approximation that is fairly accurate.  相似文献

We introduce a simple approach for modeling and analyzing a SII/G/I queue where the server may take repeated vacations. Whenever a busy period ends the server takes a vacation of random duration. At the end of each vacation the server may either take a new vacation or resume service; if the queue is found empty the server always takes a new vacation. Furthermore, the queuing system allows Bernoulli feedback of customers. Three classes of service disciplines, random gated, 1-limited and exhaustive, are considered. The random gated service discipline generalizes several known service disciplines. The customers arrival process is assumed to be a Levy process (i.e., satisfies the stationary and independent increments (SII property). We obtain explicit expressions for several performance measures of the system. These performance measures include the mean and second moment of the cycle time, the mean queue length at the beginning of a cycle of service and the expected delay observed by a customer. Furthermore, our analysis provides a uniform method to get several results previously obtained by Baba, Chiarawongse and Sriniwasan, and Takine, Takagi and Hasegawa.  相似文献

This paper treats an M/G/1 queue with single working vacation and vacation interruption under Bernoulli schedule. Whenever the system becomes empty at a service completion instant, the server goes for a single working vacation. In the working vacation, a customer is served at a lower speed, and if there are customers in the queue at the instant of a service completion, the server is resumed to a regular busy period with probability p   (i.e., the vacation is interrupted) or continues the vacation with probability 1-p1-p. Using the matrix analytic method, we obtain the distribution for the stationary queue length at departure epochs. The joint distribution for the stationary queue length and service status at the arbitrary epoch is also obtained by using supplementary variable technique. We also develop a variety of stationary performance measures for this system and give a conditional stochastic decomposition result. Finally, several numerical examples are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we give a detailed analysis of the GI/M/1 queue with exhaustive service and multiple exponential vacation. We express the transition matrix of the imbedded Markov chain as a block-Jacobi form and give a matrix-geometric solution. The probability distribution of the queue length at arrival epochs is derived and is shown to decompose into the distribution of the sum of two independent random variables. In addition, we discuss the limiting behavior of the continuous time queue length processes and obtain the probability distributions for the waiting time and the busy period.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze a single-server vacation queue with a general arrival process. Two policies, working vacation and vacation interruption, are connected to model some practical problems. The GI/M/1 queue with such two policies is described and by the matrix analysis method, we obtain various performance measures such as mean queue length and waiting time. Finally, using some numerical examples, we present the parameter effect on the performance measures and establish the cost and profit functions to analyze the optimal service rate η during the vacation period.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a renewal input working vacations queue with state dependent services and Bernoulli-schedule vacations. The model is analyzed with single and multiple working vacations. The server goes for exponential working vacation whenever the queue is empty and the vacation rate is state dependent. At the instant of a service completion, the vacation is interrupted and the server resumes a regular busy period with probability 1???q (if there are customers in the queue), or continues the vacation with probability q (0?≤?q?≤?1). We provide a recursive algorithm using the supplementary variable technique to numerically compute the stationary queue length distribution of the system. This paper examines the steady state behaviour of a batch arrival queue with two phases of heterogeneous service along and Bernoulli schedule vacation under multiple vacation policy, where after two successive phases service or first vacation the server may go for further vacations until it finds a new batch of customer in the system. This paper considers polling systems with an autonomous server that remains at a queue for an exponential amount of time before moving to a next queue incurring a generally distributed switch-over time. The server remains at a queue until the exponential visit time expires, also when the queue becomes empty. If the queue is not empty when the visit time expires, service is preempted upon server departure, and repeated when the server returns to the queue. The paper first presents a necessary and sufficient condition for stability, and subsequently analyzes the joint queue-length distribution via an embedded Markov chain approach. As the autonomous exponential visit times may seem to result in a system that closely resembles a system of independent queues, we explicitly investigate the approximation of our system via a system of independent vacation queues. This approximation is accurate for short visit times only.   相似文献

Consider a GI/M/1 queue with phase-type working vacations and vacation interruption where the vacation time follows a phase-type distribution. The server takes the original work at the lower rate during the vacation period. And, the server can come back to the normal working level at a service completion instant if there are customers at this instant, and not accomplish a complete vacation. From the PH renewal process theory, we obtain the transition probability matrix. Using the matrix-analytic method, we obtain the steady-state distributions for the queue length at arrival epochs, and waiting time of an arbitrary customer. Meanwhile, we obtain the stochastic decomposition structures of the queue length and waiting time. Two numerical examples are presented lastly.  相似文献

We consider an M/M/R queue with vacations, in which the server works with different service rates rather than completely terminates service during his vacation period. Service times during vacation period, service times during service period and vacation times are all exponentially distributed. Neuts’ matrix–geometric approach is utilized to develop the computable explicit formula for the probability distributions of queue length and other system characteristics. A cost model is derived to determine the optimal values of the number of servers and the working vacation rate simultaneously, in order to minimize the total expected cost per unit time. Under the optimal operating conditions, numerical results are provided in which several system characteristics are calculated based on assumed numerical values given to the system parameters.  相似文献

In this paper, we study an M/G/1 multi-queueing system consisting ofM finite capacity queues, at which customers arrive according to independent Poisson processes. The customers require service times according to a queue-dependent general distribution. Each queue has a different priority. The queues are attended by a single server according to their priority and are served in a non-preemptive way. If there are no customers present, the server takes repeated vacations. The length of each vacation is a random variable with a general distribution function. We derive steady state formulas for the queue length distribution and the Laplace transform of the queueing time distribution for each queue.  相似文献

考虑具有可选服务的M/G/1重试反馈排队模型,其中服务台有Bernoulli休假策略.系统外新到达的顾客服从参数为λ的泊松过程.重试区域只允许队首顾客重试,重试时间服从一般分布.所有的顾客都必须接受必选服务,然而只有其中部分接受可选服务.每个顾客每次被服务完成后可以离开系统或者返回到重试区域.服务台完成一次服务以后,可以休假也可以继续为顾客服务.通过嵌入马尔可夫链法证明了系统稳态的充要条件.利用补充变量的方法得到了稳态时系统和重试区域中队长分布.我们还得到了重试期间服务台处于空闲的概率,重试区域为空的概率以及其他各种指标.并证出在系统中服务员休假和服务台空闲的时间定义为广义休假情况下也具有随机分解特征.  相似文献
