Mixed adlayers of 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-21H,23H-porphine copper(II) (CuOEP) and cobalt(II) phthalocyanine (CoPc) were prepared by immersing Au(111) substrate in a benzene solution containing CuOEP and CoPc molecules, and they were investigated in 0.1 M HClO(4) by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and in-situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The composition of the mixed adlayer consisting of CuOEP and CoPc molecules was found to vary depending on the immersion time. CoPc molecules displaced CuOEP molecules during the modification process with increasing immersion time, and the CuOEP molecules were completely replaced with CoPc molecules in the mixed solution after a long modification time. The two-component adlayer consisting of CuOEP and CoPc, which has a structure with the constituent molecules arranged alternately, was found to form either a p(9 x 3(square root)7R - 40.9 degrees) or a p(9 x 3(square root)7R - 19.1 degrees) structure, each involving two molecules on the Au(111) surface. The surface mobility and the molecular reorganization of CuOEP and CoPc were accelerated by modulation of the electrode potential. Different surface structures were produced at different electrode potentials, and hence potential modulation should allow a precisely controllable phase separation to take place in aqueous HClO(4).  相似文献

Molecules of copper(II) and cobalt(II) 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphine (CuTPP and CoTPP) and cobalt(II) phthalocyanine (CoPc) are spontaneously adsorbed onto reconstructed Au(100) substrate from a benzene solution containing each individual complex. In situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) was used to examine the real-space arrangement and the internal molecular structure of each of the individual molecules in 0.1 M HClO4 under potential control. The adsorption of CuTPP and CoTPP produced the same highly ordered square array with an intermolecular spacing of 1.44 nm on a reconstructed Au(100) surface. These molecular superlattices and the underlying reconstructed Au(100) predominated between 0 and 0.9 V, but lifting of the reconstructed Au(100) surface and elimination of the ordered adlayers occurred at more positive potentials. Molecular resolution STM revealed propeller-shaped admolecule with its center imaged as a protrusion for Co(II) and a depression for Cu(II). In contrast, the spontaneous adsorption of CoPc molecules resulted in a rapid phase transition from the reconstructed Au(100) surface to the (1 x 1) phase, coupled with the production of locally ordered, square-shaped arrays with an intermolecular distance of 1.65 nm. This molecular adlayer and the Au(100)-(1 x 1) remained unchanged when the potential was modulated between 0 and 1.0 V. These results indicate that the subtle variation in the molecular structure of adsorbate influenced not only its spatial arrangement but also the structure of the underlying Au(100) substrate.  相似文献

Adlayers of cobalt(II) 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(alpha,alpha,alpha,alpha-2-pivalamidophenyl)porphyrin (CoTpivPP) were prepared by immersing either Au(111) or Au(100) substrate in a benzene solution containing CoTpivPP molecules, and they were investigated in 0.1 M HClO4 and 0.1 M H2SO4 by cyclic voltammetry and in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The adlayer structure and electrochemical properties of CoTpivPP are compared to those of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphine cobalt(II) (CoTPP). Characteristic nanobelt arrays consisting of CoTpivPP molecules were produced on both Au(111) and Au(100) surfaces. The stability of the nanobelt arrays was controlled by manipulating the electrode potential. On the other hand, the formation of nanobelt arrays consisting of O2-adducted CoTpivPP molecules depended upon the crystallographic orientation of Au. The state of O2 trapped in the cavity of CoTpivPP was distinctly observed in STM images as a bright spot in the nanobelt array formed on reconstructed Au(100)-(hex) surface, but not on Au(111) surface. This result suggests that the arrangement of underlying Au atoms plays an important role in the formation of nanobelt arrays with the sixth ligand coordination.  相似文献

Two-component adlayers consisting of zinc(II) phthalocyanine (ZnPc) and a metalloporphyrin, such as zinc(II) octaethylporphyrin (ZnOEP) or zinc(II) tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP), were prepared by immersing either an Au(111) or Au(100) substrate in a benzene solution containing those molecules. The bimolecular adlayers thus prepared were investigated in 0.1 M HClO4 by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (EC-STM). A supramolecularly organized "chessboard" structure was formed for the ZnPc and ZnOEP bimolecular array on Au(111), while characteristic nanohexagons were found in the ZnTPP and ZnOEP bimolecular adlayer. EC-STM revealed that the surface mobility and the molecular re-organization of ZnPc and ZnOEP on Au(111) were tunable by manipulating the electrode potential, whereas the ZnTPP and ZnOEP bimolecular array was independent of the electrode potential. A "bottom-up" hybrid assembly of fullerene molecules was formed successfully on an alternate array of bimolecular ZnPc and ZnOEP molecules. The bimolecular "chessboard" served as a template to form the supramolecular assembly of C60 by selective trapping in the open spaces. A supramolecular organization of ZnPc and ZnOEP was also found on the reconstructed Au(100)-(hex) surface. A highly ordered, compositionally disordered but alternate array of ZnPc and ZnOEP was formed on the reconstructed Au(100)-(hex) surface, indicating that the bimolecular adlayer structure is dependent on the atomic arrangement of underlying Au in the formation of supramolecular nanostructures composed of those molecules. On the bimolecular array consisting of ZnPc and ZnOEP on the Au(100)-(hex), no highly ordered supramolecular assembly of C60 was found, suggesting that the supramolecular assembly of C60 molecules is strongly dependent upon the bimolecular packing arrangement of ZnPc and ZnOEP.  相似文献

By immersing Au substrate into a benzene solution containing both cobalt(II) phthalocyanine (CoPc) and copper(II) tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphine (CuTPP), a two-dimensional alternate bimolecular structure was formed on the reconstructed Au(100)-(hex) surface.  相似文献

Supramolecular assembled layers of ferrocene-linked C(60) derivative (C(60)Fc) and various metal ions coordinated to octaethylporphyrin (MOEP) were formed on the surface of a Au(111) single-crystal electrode by immersing the Au substrate successively into a benzene solution containing MOEP and one containing C(60)Fc molecules. The MOEPs used were zinc(II) (ZnOEP), cobalt(II) (CoOEP), copper(II) (CuOEP), and iron(III) chloride (FeClOEP) of OEP (2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-21H,23H-porphine). The molecules of C(60)Fc directly attached to the Au(111) electrode showed poorly defined electrochemical redox response, whereas a clear electrochemical redox reaction of the ferrocene group in the C(60)Fc molecule was observed at 0.78 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode on ZnOEP, CoOEP, and CuOEP adlayers, but not on the FeClOEP adlayer. Adlattices of the underlying layer and the top layer of C(60)Fc were determined by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy. Adlayer structures of MOEP were independent of the central metal ion; that is, MOEP molecules were arranged hexagonally with two different orientations. Highly ordered C(60)Fc arrays were formed with 1:1 composition on the ZnOEP-, CoOEP-, and CuOEP-modified Au(111) surface, whereas a disordered structure of C(60)Fc was found on the FeClOEP-modified Au(111) surface. The presence of Cl ligand was found to prevent the formation of supramolecularly assembled layers with C(60)Fc molecules, resulting in an ill-defined unclear electrochemical response of the Fc group. The well-defined electrochemical response of the Fc group in C(60)Fc was clearly due to the control of orientation of C(60)Fc molecules.  相似文献

Adlayers of ZnOEP were prepared on reconstructed Au(100)-(hex) and unreconstructed Au(100)-(1 x 1) surfaces by immersing into a benzene solution containing ZnOEP molecules, and the adlayer structures were characterized by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). A hexagonally arranged ZnOEP array was formed on an Au(100)-(hex) surface, whereas a rectangularly arranged ZnOEP array was found on an Au(100)-(1 x 1) surface. The adlayer structure of ZnOEP was dependent upon the underlying Au atomic arrangements. Furthermore, an investigation of the spuramolecular assembly for these modified surfaces was carried out by using an open-cage C(60) derivative (opened C(60)). A supramolecular assembled adlayer with a 1:1 composition of opened C(60)/ZnOEP was formed on Au(100)-(hex), whereas aggregates of opened C(60) were found on the ZnOEP-modified Au(100)-(1 x 1) surface. Electrochemical responses of opened C(60) were significantly influenced by underlying ZnOEP arrays. This finding suggests that precise control of underlying ZnOEP adlayers with the Au atomic structure is important to recognize the opened C(60) on them.  相似文献

Binary thin films of cobalt(II) phthalocyanine (CoPc) and cobalt(II) tetraphenylporphyrin (CoTPP) were prepared at submonolayer coverage on Au(111)/mica substrates byvapor deposition. All sample preparation and analysis were done under an ultrahigh vacuum. Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) constant-current images of CoPc/CoTPP mixtures showed two close-packed surface structures, with different compositional percentages and some disorder. CoPc was also observed exclusively in one-dimensional chains and as single, isolated molecules below 220 K. Occupied and unoccupied orbital energy levels were identified by STM and tunnel-diode-based orbital-mediated tunneling spectroscopy. Occupied energy levels were also confirmed by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. The transient oxidation of the Co d(z2) orbital is identified in STM dI/dV(V) curves just negative of the 0 V sample bias for both molecules. Nearly identical constant-current contours are observed over the central Co2+ ions of CoTPP and CoPc, indicating that the attenuation of the d(z)2 orbital-mediated tunneling current induced by the structure of TPP relative to Pc is at most a factor of about 10. The orbital-mediated tunneling spectra of CoTPP and CoPc are distinctly different and allow these structurally similar species to be differentially identified.  相似文献

Characteristic properties of the coronene layer formed on Au(111) for the epitaxial growth of various fullerenes are described. The electrochemical behavior of the coronene adlayer prepared by immersing a Au(111) substrate into a benzene solution containing coronene was investigated in 0.1 M HClO4. The as-prepared coronene adlayer on Au(111) revealed a well-defined (4 x 4) structure. Structural changes of the array of coronene molecules induced by potential manipulation were clearly observed by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Supramolecularly assembled layers of fullerenes such as C60, C70, C60-C60 dumbbell dimer (C120), C60-C70 cross-dimer (C130), and C60 triangle trimer (C180) were formed on the well-defined coronene adlayer on the Au(111) surface by immersing the coronene-adsorbed Au(111) substrate into benzene solutions containing those molecules. The adlayers thus prepared were characterized by comparison with those which were directly attached to the Au(111) surface. The C60 molecules formed a honeycomb array with an internal structure in each C60 cage on the coronene adlayer, whereas C70 molecules were one-dimensionally arranged with the same orientations. The dimers, C120 and C130 molecules, formed an identical structure with c(11 x 4 radical3)rect symmetry. For the C130 cross-dimer molecule, C60 and C70 cages were clearly recognized at the molecular level. It was difficult to identify the adlayer of the C180 molecule directly attached to Au(111); however, individual C180 molecules could be recognized on the coronene-modified Au(111) surface. Thus, the adlayer structures of those fullerenes were strongly influenced by the underlying coronene adlayer, suggesting that the insertion of a coronene adlayer plays an important role in the formation of supramolecular assemblies of fullerenes.  相似文献

The self-assembly of 5,10,15,20-tetra(4-pyridyl)-21H,23H-porphine (TPyP) on Au(111) electrodes was investigated. The adlayer structure was found to depend on the electrode potential. At positive potentials (>0.5V(SCE)), a disordered layer of TPyP is formed on the Au(111) electrode. STM images showed that the disordered molecules are immobile. At negative potentials (-0.2V(SCE)), however, the molecules are highly mobile and can no longer be imaged by STM, though they remain on the surface. At intermediate potentials (-0.2 to +0.2V(SCE)), the TPyP formed a highly ordered adlayer. Once the ordered adlayer is formed, it persists even after the potential is stepped to higher values (0.5-0.8 V(SCE)). These results can be explained by the role of potential modulated adsorbate-substrate interaction and surface mobility. This suggests the intriguing prospect of using electrode potential to tune surface interactions and to drive surface processes, e.g., molecular self-assembly, in electrochemical systems.  相似文献

The potential-induced adsorption and self-assembly of 1,3,5-benzene-tricarboxylic acid (TMA) was investigated at the electrified Au(111)/0.05 M H2SO4 interface by in-situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and surface enhanced infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS) in combination with electrochemical techniques. Depending on the applied electric field, TMA forms five distinctly different, highly ordered supramolecular adlayers on Au(111) surfaces. We have elucidated their real-space structures at the molecular scale. In the potential range -0.25 V < E < 0.20 V, planar-oriented TMA molecules form a hexagonal open-ring honeycomb structure, Ia, a hydrogen-bonded ribbon-type phase, Ib, and a herringbone-type phase, Ic, stabilized by directional hydrogen bonding and weak substrate-adsorbate interactions. Interfacial water molecules are being replaced. In 0.20 V < or = E < 0.40 V, e.g., around the potential of zero charge, and at slightly higher coverages, a close-packed physisorbed adlayer of hydrogen-bonded TMA dimers, II, was observed. Further increase of the electrode potential to positive charge densities causes an orientation change from planar to upright. An initially disordered phase, IIIa, transforms into an ordered, stripelike chemisorbed adlayer, IIIb, of perpendicularly oriented TMA molecules. One carboxylate group per molecule is bound to the electrode surface, while the two other protonated carboxyl groups are directed toward the electrolyte and act as structure-determining components of a hydrogen-bonded two-dimensional ladder-type network. Structural transitions between the various types of ordered molecular adlayers are attributed to (hole) nucleation and growth processes.  相似文献

We have developed a general method to construct optically active porphyrin supramolecular assemblies by using a simple air-water interfacial assembly process. The method involved the in situ diprotonation of the free-base porphyrins at the air-water interface and subsequent assembly under compression. We showed that two intrinsically achiral water-insoluble free-base porphyrin derivatives, 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-21H,23H-porphine (H(2)OEP) and 5,10,15,20-tetra-p-tolyl-21H,23H-porphine (H(2)TPPMe), could be diprotonated when spread onto a 2.4 M hydrochloric acid solution surface, and the Langmuir-Schaefer (LS) films fabricated from the subphase exhibited strong circular dichroism (CD) absorption, whereas those fabricated from pure Milli-Q water subphase did not. The experimental data suggested that the helical stacking of the achiral porphyrin building blocks was responsible for the supramolecular chirality of the assemblies. Interestingly, such a method was successfully applied to a series of other intrinsically achiral free-base porphyrins such as 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-methoxyphenyl)-21H,23H-porphine (H(2)TPPOMe), 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphine (H(2)TPP), 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-(allyloxy)phenyl)-21H,23H-porphine (H(2)TPPOA), and 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-21H,23H-porphine (H(2)TPPDOMe). A possible mechanism has been proposed. The method provides a facile way to obtain optically active porphyrin supramolecular assemblies by using intrinsically achiral water-insoluble free-base porphyrin derivatives.  相似文献

The structure and conformation of three self-assembled supramolecular species, a rectangle, a square, and a three-dimensional cage, on Au111 surfaces were investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy. These supramolecular assemblies adsorb on Au111 surfaces and self-organize to form highly ordered adlayers with distinct conformations that are consistent with their chemical structures. The faces of the supramolecular rectangle and square lie flat on the surface, preserving their rectangle and square conformations, respectively. The three-dimensional cage also forms well-ordered adlayers on the gold surface, forming regular molecular rows of assemblies. When the rectangle and cage were mixed together, the assemblies separated into individual domains, and no mixed adlayers were observed. These results provide direct evidence of the noncrystalline solid-state structures of these assemblies and information about how they self-organize on Au111 surfaces, which is of importance in the potential manufacturing of functional nanostructures and devices.  相似文献

UV light irradiation effect on the structural transformation in a self-assembled monolayer of 4-(amyloxy)cinnamic acid (AOCA) on Au(111) has been investigated by using electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (ECSTM), cyclic voltammetry, and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. A well-defined 4-(amyloxy)cinnamic acid adlayer with a (4 x 11) symmetry was first prepared on Au(111). After UV-light irradiation onto the adlayer, a new adlayer is observed with different molecular arrangement and a symmetry of (5 x 8). On the basis of the results from high-resolution STM image and photochemical reaction, a dimerizaion of AOCA molecules in the adlayer with structural transformation is concluded. Schematic models have been proposed for the unirradiated and irradiated adlayers, respectively. The direct evidence at molecular level about photodimerization of cinnamic acid on metal substrate is presented.  相似文献

A detailed study on the time-dependent organization of a decanethiol self-assembled monolayer (SAM) at a designed solution concentration onto a Au(111) surface has been performed with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The SAMs were prepared by immersing Au(111) into an ethanol solution containing 1 microM decanethiol with different immersion times. STM images revealed the formation process and adlayer structure of the SAMs. It was found that the molecules self-organized into adlayers from random separation to a well-defined structure. From 10 s, small domains with ordered molecular organization appeared, although random molecules could be observed on Au(111) at the very initial stage. At 30 s, the SAM consisted of uniform short stripes. Each stripe consisted of sets of decanethiol mainly containing eight molecules. With the immersion time increasing, the length of the stripes increased. At 5 min, the alkyl chains overlapped each other between the adjacent stripes, indicating the start of a stacked process. After immersing Au(111) in decanethiol solution for 3 days, a densely packed adlayer with a (radical 3 x radical 3)R30 degrees structure was observed. The formation process and structure of decanethiol SAMs are well related to sample preparation conditions. The wettability of the decanethiolate SAM-modified Au(111) surface was also investigated.  相似文献

Supramolecularly assembled layers of C60 on coronene- and perylene-modified Au(111) surfaces were investigated and the structure of the C60 adlayer was found to be strongly influenced by the underlying organic layers, suggesting that the latter underlying organic adlayers play an important role in the process of formation of the C60 molecular adlayer.  相似文献

The preparation of fullerene complexes with metal tetraarylporphyrins in the presence of excess ferrocene (Cp(2)Fe) results in the formation of new solvent-free and multicomponent molecular crystals. New isomorphous complexes of C(60) with PyZnTPP (ZnTPP identical with zinc 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphyrinate) and PyCoTPP (CoTPP identical with cobalt(II) 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphyrinate) containing Cp(2)Fe and the isostructural C(70) complex with PyZnTPP have been prepared. The crystal structures of the new layered C(60) complexes CoTMPP x C(60) (obtained in the presence of Cp(2)Fe) and CoTMPP x 2C(60) x 3C(7)H(8) (obtained in the absence of Cp(2)Fe) have been described (CoTMPP identical with cobalt(II) 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(p-methoxyphenyl)-21H,23H-porphyrinate). Cobalt atoms of the PyCoTPP and CoTMPP molecules are weakly coordinated to C(60) with Co...C(C(60)) distances in the 2.64-2.82 A range, whereas zinc atoms of PyZnTPP, as well as cobalt atoms of the CoTMPP molecules in the solvent-free phase, form only van der Waals contacts with fullerenes. Different packing arrangements in the crystals of fullerene-porphyrin complexes have been discussed.  相似文献

The adsorption and adlayer structures of tetrathiofulvalene (TTF), tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) and TTF-TCNQ on Au(111) have been systematically investigated by in situ electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (ECSTM) and cyclic voltammetry in 0.1 mol L−1 HClO4. All the three molecules were found to form well-ordered adlayers in the double-layer potential region of Au(111). For TTF and TCNQ adlayers, (6×3) and (4×7) structures have been observed, respectively. A structural transition was observed on TCNQ adlayer at potential negative of 0.08 V vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), and induced a new phase with (3 × 12) structure. On the other hand, the charge transfer complex, TTF-TCNQ, self-organized into ordered domains with a lamellar structure different from those of the pure TTF and TCNQ adlayers on Au(111). Its packing arrangement was comparable to surface structures of either single crystal or thin film of TTF-TCNQ. Two different cationic tetraphenyl porphyrins, one with two carboxyphenyl groups in cis-position and the other in trans-position (cis- and trans-H(4)DCPP(2+)), have been examined to control the structure of their 2D supramolecular assemblies in 0.05 M H(2)SO(4) at electrochemical interfaces. Electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (EC-STM) images revealed the formation of supramolecularly organized nanostructures of cis-H(4)DCPP(2+) such as dimer, trimer, and tetramer on the (square root(3) x square root(7)) sulfate/bisulfate adlayer, suggesting the importance of both electrostatic interaction between cationic porphyrin core and sulfate/bisulfate adlayer and the hydrogen bond formation between carboxyl groups of the nearest neighbor cationic porphyrins. Trans-H(4)DCPP(4+) ions were also found to be aligned in the square root(3) direction of the sulfate/bisulfate adlayer. The structure of these cationic porphyrin adlayers was found to depend upon the electrode potential; i.e., when the potential was changed in the negative direction, the (square root(3) x square root(7)) sulfate/bisulfate adlayer disappeared, and no ordered arrays were formed. In contrast, when 0.1 M HClO(4) was used as an electrolyte solution, only a disordered array was observed. The results of the present study indicate that the (square root(3) x square root(7)) sulfate/bisulfate adlayer formed on Au(111) in 0.05 M H(2)SO(4) plays a significant role as a nanorail template in the control of electrostatically assembled diacid porphyrin dicarboxylic acid derivative. In addition, the high-resolution STM clearly distinguished between cis-H(4)DCPP(2+) ion and cis-H(2)DCPP molecule. The cis-H(2)DCPP molecules on Au(111) provided an adlayer structure and an electrochemical behavior which are different from those of cis-H(4)DCPP(2+) ions.  相似文献

Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and low-energy electron diffraction were used to reveal the structures of ordered adlayers of [2+2]-type C60-C60 fullerene dimer (C120) and C60-C70 cross-dimer (C130) formed on Au(111) by immersingit in abenzene solution containing C120 or C130 molecules. High-resolution STM images clearly showed the packing arrangements and the electronic structures of C120 and C130 on the Au(111) surface in ultrahigh vacuum. The (2 square root3 x 4square root3)R30 degrees, (2square root3 x 5square root3)R30 degrees, and (7 x 7) structures were found for the C120 adlayer on the Au(111) surface, whereas C130 molecules were closely packed on the surface. Each C60 or C70 monomer cage was discerned in the STM image of a C130 molecule.  相似文献
