The surface modifications of tungsten massive samples (0.5 mm foils) made by nitrogen ion implantation are studied by SEM, XRD, AFM, and SIMS. Nitrogen ions in the energy range of 16-30 keV with a fluence of 1 × 1018 N+ cm−2 were implanted in tungsten samples for 1600 s at different temperatures. XRD patterns clearly showed WN2 (0 1 8) (rhombohedral) very close to W (2 0 0) line. Crystallite sizes (coherently diffracting domains) obtained from WN2 (0 1 8) line, showed an increase with substrate temperature. AFM images showed the formation of grains on W samples, which grew in size with temperature. Similar morphological changes to that has been observed for thin films by increasing substrate temperature (i.e., structure zone model (SZM)), is obtained. The surface roughness variation with temperature generally showed a decrease with increasing temperature. The density of implanted nitrogen ions and the depth of nitrogen ion implantation in W studied by SIMS showed a minimum for N+ density as well as a minimum for penetration depth of N+ ions in W at certain temperatures, which are both consistent with XRD results (i.e., IW (2 0 0)/IW (2 1 1)) for W (bcc). Hence, showing a correlation between XRD and SIMS results.  相似文献

Objectives

The purpose of this study was to (a) investigate the image quality of phase-sensitive dual-inversion recovery (PS-DIR) coronary wall imaging in healthy subjects and in subjects with known coronary artery disease (CAD) and to (b) investigate the utilization of PS-DIR at 3 T in the assessment of coronary artery thickening in subjects with asymptomatic but variable degrees of CAD.

Materials and Methods

A total of 37 subjects participated in this institutional review board-approved and HIPAA-compliant study. These included 21 subjects with known CAD as identified on multidetector computed tomography angiography (MDCT). Sixteen healthy subjects without known history of CAD were included. All subjects were scanned using free-breathing PS-DIR magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the assessment of coronary wall thickness at 3 T. Lumen–tissue contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and quantitative vessel parameters including lumen area and wall thickness were measured. Statistical analyses were performed.

Results

PS-DIR was successfully completed in 76% of patients and in 88% of the healthy subjects. Phase-sensitive signed-magnitude reconstruction, compared to modulus-magnitude images, significantly improved lumen–tissue CNR in healthy subjects (26.73 ± 11.95 vs. 14.65 ± 9.57, P < .001) and in patients (21.45 ± 7.61 vs. 16.65 ± 5.85, P < .001). There was no difference in image CNR and SNR between groups. In arterial segments free of plaques, coronary wall was thicker in patients in comparison to healthy subjects (1.74 ± 0.27 mm vs. 1.17 ± 0.14 mm, P < .001), without a change in lumen area (4.51 ± 2.42 mm2 vs. 5.71 ± 3.11 mm2, P = .25).

Conclusions

This is the first study to demonstrate the feasibility of successfully obtaining vessel wall images at 3 T using PS-DIR in asymptomatic patients with known variable degrees of CAD as detected by MDCT. This was achieved with a fixed subject-invariant planning of blood signal nulling. With that limitation alleviated, PS-DIR coronary wall MRI is capable of detecting arterial thickening and positive arterial remodeling at 3 T in asymptomatic CAD.  相似文献

In order to have consistent and repeatable effects of sonodynamic therapy (SDT) on various cancer cells or tissue lesions we should be able to control a delivered ultrasound energy and thermal effects induced. The objective of this study was to investigate viability of rat C6 glioma cells in vitro depending on the intensity of ultrasound in the region of cells and to determine the exposure time inducing temperature rise above 43 °C, which is known to be toxic for cells. For measurements a planar piezoelectric transducer with a diameter of 20 mm and a resonance frequency of 1.06 MHz was used. The transducer generated tone bursts with 94 μs duration, 0.4 duty-cycle and initial intensity ISATA (spatial averaged, temporal averaged) varied from 0.33 W/cm2 to 8 W/cm2 (average acoustic power varied from 1 W to 24 W). The rat C6 glioma cells were cultured on a bottom of wells in 12-well plates, incubated for 24 h and then exposed to ultrasound with measured acoustic properties, inducing or causing no thermal effects leading to cell death. Cell viability rate was determined by MTT assay (a standard colorimetric assay for assessing cell viability) as the ratio of the optical densities of the group treated by ultrasound to the control group. Structural cellular changes and apoptosis estimation were observed under a microscope. Quantitative analysis of the obtained results allowed to determine the maximal exposure time that does not lead to the thermal effects above 43 °C in the region of cells for each initial intensity of the tone bursts used as well as the threshold intensity causing cell death after 3 min exposure to ultrasound due to thermal effects. The averaged threshold intensity was found to be about 5.7 W/cm2.  相似文献

This paper reports the design, fabrication, and performance of miniature micromachined high frequency PMN-PT/epoxy 1-3 composite ultrasonic annular arrays. The PMN-PT single crystal 1-3 composites were made with micromachining techniques. The area of a single crystal pillar was 9 × 9 μm. The width of the kerf among pillars was ∼5 μm and the kerfs were filled with a polymer. The composite thickness was 25 μm. A six-element annular transducer of equal element area of 0.2 mm2 with 16 μm kerf widths between annuli was produced. The aperture size the array transducer is about 1.5 mm in diameter. A novel electrical interconnection strategy for high density array elements was implemented. After the transducer was attached to the electric connection board and packaged, the array transducer was tested in a pulse/echo arrangement, whereby the center frequency, bandwidth, two-way insertion loss (IL), and cross talk between adjacent elements were measured for each annulus. The center frequency was 50 MHz and −6 dB bandwidth was 90%. The average insertion loss was 19.5 dB at 50 MHz and the crosstalk between adjacent elements was about −35 dB. The micromachining techniques described in this paper are promising for the fabrication of other types of high frequency transducers, e.g. 1D and 2D arrays.  相似文献

Purpose

To evaluate the diagnostic performance of an apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and quantitative kinetic parameters in patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer.

Materials and Methods

We enrolled 169 lesions in 89 patients with breast cancer who underwent dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). Comparisons between benign and malignant lesions were performed for lesion type (mass or nonmass-like enhancement), size (≥ 1 cm or < 1 cm), ADC, kinetic parameters and the presence of a US correlate.

Results

There were 63 benign and 106 malignant lesions. The mean size and initial peak enhancement of the benign lesions were significantly lower than those of malignant lesions (P < 0.001 for both). The ADC of the benign lesions was significantly higher than that of malignant lesions (1.42 × 10− 3 mm2/sec vs. 1.04 × 10− 3 mm2/sec; P < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for predicting malignancy was 0.87 for the combined parameters of size, ADC, and initial peak enhancement, which was higher than those of each parameter.

Conclusions

Combination of quantitative kinetic parameters and ADC showed higher diagnostic performance for predicting malignancy than each parameter alone for the evaluation of patients with breast cancer.  相似文献

This paper proposes ultrasonic transcutaneous energy transfer (UTET) based on a kerfless transmitter with Gaussian radial distribution of its radiating surface velocity. UTET presents an attractive alternative to electromagnetic TET, where a low power transfer density of less than 94 mW/cm2 is sufficient. The UTET is operated with a continuous wave at 650 kHz and is intended to power devices implanted up to 50 mm deep. The transmitter was fabricated using a 15 mm diameter disc shape PZT (Lead Zirconate Titanate) element (C-2 grade, Fujiceramics Corporation Tokyo Japan), in which one surface electrode was partitioned into six equal area electrodes (∼23 mm2 each) in the shape of six concentric elements. The UTET was experimented using pig muscle tissue, and showed a peak power transfer efficiency of 39.1% at a power level of 100 mW. An efficient (91.8%) power driver for the excitation of the transmitter array, and an efficient rectifier (89%) for the implanted transducer are suggested. To obtain the pressure field shape, the Rayleigh integral has been solved numerically and the results were compared to finite element simulation results. Pressure and power transfer measurements within a test tank further confirm the effectiveness of the proposed UTET.  相似文献

The surface modifications of tungsten massive samples (0.5 mm foils) made by nitrogen ion (30 keV; 1 × 1018 N+ cm−2) implantation are studied by XRD, AFM, and SIMS. XRD patterns clearly showed WN2 (0 1 8) (rhombohedral) very close to W (2 0 0) line. Crystallite sizes obtained from WN2 (0 1 8) line, showed an increase with substrate temperature. AFM images showed the formation of grains on W samples, which grew in size with temperature. These morphological changes are similar to those observed for thin films by increasing substrate temperature (i.e. structure zone model (SZM)). Surface roughness variation with temperature, showed a decrease with increasing temperature. The density of implanted nitrogen ions, and the depth of nitrogen ion implantation in W are studied by SIMS. The results show a minimum for N+ density at a certain temperature consistent with XRD results (i.e. IW (2 0 0)/IW (2 1 1)). This minimum in XRD results is again similar to that obtained for different thin films by Savaloni et al. [Physica B, 349 (2004) 44; Vacuum, 77 (2005) 245] and Shi and Player [Vacuum, 49 (1998) 257].  相似文献

Diffusion-weighted MRI images acquired at b-value greater than 1000 s mm− 2 measure the diffusion of a restricted pool of water molecules. High b-value images are accompanied by a reduction in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) due to the application of large diffusion gradients. By fitting the diffusion tensor model to data acquired at incremental b-value intervals, we determined the effect of SNR on tensor parameters in normal human brains, in vivo. In addition, we also investigated the impact of field strength on the diffusion tensor model. Data were acquired at 1.5 and 3 T, at b-values 0, 1000, 2000 and 3000 s mm− 2 in twenty diffusion-sensitised directions. Fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD) and principal eigenvector coherence (κ) were calculated from diffusion tensors fitted between datasets with b-values 0–1000, 0–2000, 0–3000, 1000–2000 and 2000–3000 s mm− 2. Field strength and b-value effects on diffusion parameters were analysed in white and grey matter regions of interest. Decreases in FA, κ and MD were found with increasing b-value in white matter. Univariate analysis showed a significant increase in FA with increasing field strength in highly organised white matter. These results suggest there are significant differences in diffusion parameters at 1.5 and 3 T and that the optimal results, in terms of the highest values of FA in white matter, are obtained at 3 T with a maximum b = 1000 s mm− 2.  相似文献

This study investigated the effect of LIPUS on fracture healing when fractures were exposed to ultrasound at three axial distances: z = 0 mm, 60 mm, and 130 mm. We applied LIPUS to rat fracture at these three axial distances mimicking the exposure condition of human fractures at different depths under the soft tissue. Measurement of LIPUS shows pressure variations in near field (nearby transducer); uniform profile was found beyond it (far field). We asked whether different positions of the fracture within the ultrasound field cause inconsistent biological effect during the healing process. Closed femoral fractured Sprague–Dawley rats were randomized into control, near-field (0 mm), mid-near field (60 mm) or far-field (130 mm) groups. Daily LIPUS treatment (plane, but apodized source, see details in the text; 2.2 cm in diameter; 1.5 MHz sine waves repeating at 1 kHz PRF; spatial average temporal average intensity, ISATA = 30 mW/cm2) was given to fracture site at the three axial distances. Weekly radiographs and endpoint microCT, histomorphometry, and mechanical tests were performed. The results showed that the 130 mm group had the highest tissue mineral density; and significantly higher mechanical properties than control at week 4. The 60 mm and 0 mm groups had significantly higher (i.e. p < 0.05) woven bone percentage than control group in radiological, microCT and histomorphometry measurements. In general, LIPUS at far field augmented callus mineralization and mechanical properties; while near field and mid-near field enhanced woven bone formation. Our results indicated the therapeutic effect of LIPUS is dependent on the axial distance of the ultrasound beam. Therefore, the depth of fracture under the soft tissue affects the biological effect of LIPUS. Clinicians have to be aware of the fracture depth when LIPUS is applied transcutaneously.  相似文献

Progress in developing a new measurement method for ultrasound output power is described. It is a thermal-based technique with the acoustic power generated by a transducer being absorbed within a specially developed polyurethane rubber material, whose high absorption coefficient ensures energy deposition within a few mm of the ultrasonic wave entering the material. The rate of change of temperature at the absorber surface is monitored using the pyroelectric voltage generated from electrodes disposed either side of a 60 mm diameter, 0.061 mm thick membrane of the piezoelectric polymer polyvinylidene fluoride (pvdf) bonded to the absorber. The change in the pyroelectric output voltage generated by the sensor when the transducer is switched ON and OFF is proportional to the delivered ultrasound power. The sensitivity of the device is defined as the magnitude of these switch voltages to a unit input stimulus of power (watt). Three important aspects of the performance of the pyroelectric sensor have been studied. Firstly, measurements have revealed that the temperature dependent sensitivity increases over the range from approximately 20 °C to 30 °C at a rate of +1.6% °C−1. Studies point to the key role that the properties of both the absorbing backing layer and pvdf membrane play in controlling the sensor response. Secondly, the high sensitivity of the technique has been demonstrated using an NPL Pulsed Checksource, a 3.5 MHz focused transducer delivering a nominal acoustic power level of 4 mW. Finally, proof-of-concept of a new type of acoustic sensor responding to time-averaged intensity has been demonstrated, through fabrication of an absorber-backed hydrophone of nominal active element diameter 0.4 mm. A preliminary study using such a device to resolve the spatial distribution of acoustic intensity within plane-piston and focused 3.5 MHz acoustic fields has been completed. Derived beam profiles are compared to conventional techniques that depend on deriving intensity from acoustic pressure measurements made using the sensor as a calibrated hydrophone.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate quadrature fringes wide-field optical coherence tomography (QF WF OCT) to expand an optical Hilbert transformation to two-dimensions. This OCT simultaneously measures two quadrature interference images using a single InGaAs CCD camera to obtain en face OCT images. The axial and lateral resolutions are measured at 29 μm in air and 70 μm limited by a pixel size of camera using a superluminescent diode with a wavelength of 1.3 μm as the light source; the system sensitivity is determined to be −90 dB. The area of the en face OCT images is 4.0 mm × 4.0 mm (160 × 160  pixels). The OCT images are measured axially with steps of 10 μm. The en face OCT images of a in vivo human fingertip and a in situ rat brain are three-dimensionally measured up to the depth of about 3 mm with some degradations of a lateral resolution.  相似文献

A high power, high beam quality, compact green laser based on dual-rod AO Q-switched resonator was designed, fabricated and tested. The laser provided a maximum 532 nm average power of 36.5 W at a repetition rate of 65 kHz with the beam quality factor of M2 = 1.55 and the optical frequency conversion efficiency from NIR to green laser was as high as 51%. The pulse repetition rate was tunable from 50 kHz to 200 kHz and the overall dimension of the laser was within 500 × 300 × 150 mm3.  相似文献

Objective: We have shown that High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) can effectively control bleeding from injuries to solid organs such as liver, spleen, and lung. Achievement of hemostasis was augmented when a homogenate of tissue and blood was formed. The objective of this study was to investigate quantitatively the effect of homogenate production on HIFU application time for hemostasis. Possible mechanisms involved in homogenate production were also studied. Methods: Ten anesthetized rabbits had laparotomy and liver exposure. Liver incisions, 15-25 mm long and 3-4 mm deep, were made followed immediately by HIFU application. Two electrical powers of 80 and 100 W corresponding to focal acoustic intensities of 2264 and 2829 W/cm2, respectively were used. Tissue and homogenate temperatures were measured. Smear and histological tissue sample analysis using light microscopy were performed. Results: In treatments with homogenate formation, hemostasis was achieved in 76 ± 1.3 s (Mean ± Standard Error Mean: SEM) at 80 W. In treatments without homogenate formation (at 80 W), hemostasis was achieved in 106 ± 0.87 s. At 100 W, hemostasis was achieved in 46 ± 0.3 s. The time required for homogenate formation, at 80 and 100 W were 60 ± 2.5 and 23 ± 0.3 s, respectively. The homogenate temperature was 83 °C (SEM 0.6 °C), and the non-homogenate tissue temperature at the treatment site was 60 °C (SEM 0.4 °C). The smear and histological analysis showed significant blood components and cellular debris in the homogenate, with some intact cells. Conclusion: The HIFU-induced homogenate of blood and tissue resulted in a statistically significant shorter HIFU application time for hemostasis. The incisions with homogenate had higher temperatures as compared to incisions without homogenate. Further studies of the correlation between homogenate formation and temperature must be done, as well as studies on the long-term effects of homogenate in achieving hemostasis.  相似文献

Background and purpose

The use of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) as a surrogate biomarker of response in preclinical studies is increasing. However, before a biomarker can be reliably employed to assess treatment response, the reproducibility of the technique must be established. There is a paucity of literature that quantifies the reproducibility of DW-MRI in preclinical studies; thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate DW-MRI reproducibility in a murine model of HER2 + breast cancer.

Materials and methods

Test–Retest DW-MRI scans separated by approximately six hours were acquired from eleven athymic female mice with HER2 + xenografts using a pulsed gradient spin echo diffusion-weighted sequence with three b values [150, 500, and 800 s/mm2]. Reproducibility was assessed for the mean apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) from tumor and muscle tissue regions.

Results

The threshold to reflect a change in tumor physiology in a cohort of mice is defined by the 95% confidence interval (CI), which was ± 0.0972 × 10- 3 mm2/s (± 11.8%) for mean tumor ADC. The repeatability coefficient defines this threshold for an individual mouse, which was ± 0.273 × 10- 3 mm2/s. The 95% CI and repeatability coefficient for mean ADC of muscle tissue were ± 0.0949 × 10- 3 mm2/s (± 8.30%) and ± 0.266 × 10- 3 mm2/s, respectively.

Conclusions

Mean ADC of tumors is reproducible and appropriate for detecting treatment-induced changes on both an individual and mouse cohort basis.  相似文献

Row–column addressed arrays for ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) applications are analyzed and demonstrated in this paper. Simulation and experimental results of a row–column addressed 32 by 32 capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) array are presented. The CMUT array, which was designed for medical imaging applications, has a center frequency of 5.3 MHz. The CMUT array was used to perform C-scans on test objects with holes that have diameters of 1.0 mm and 0.5 mm. The array transducer has an aperture size of 4.8 mm by 4.8 mm, and it was used to scan an area of 4.0 mm by 4.0 mm. Compared to an N by N fully addressed 2-D array, a row–column addressed array of the same number of elements requires fewer (N instead of N2) pairs of interconnection and supporting electronic components such as pulsers and amplifiers. Even though the resulting field of view is limit by the aperture size, row–column addressed arrays and the row–column addressing scheme can be an alternative option of 2-D arrays for NDT applications.  相似文献

d-limonene in water nanoemulsion was prepared by ultrasonic emulsification using mixed surfactants of sorbitane trioleate and polyoxyethylene (20) oleyl ether. Investigation using response surface methodology revealed that 10% d-limonene nanoemulsions formed at S0 ratio (d-limonene concentration to mixed surfactant concentration) 0.6-0.7 and applied power 18 W for 120 s had droplet size below 100 nm. The zeta potential of the nanoemulsion was approximately −20 mV at original pH 6.4, closed to zero around pH 4.0, and around −30 mV at pH 12.0. The main destabilization mechanism of the systems is Ostwald ripening. The ripening rate at 25 °C (0.39 m3 s−1 × 1029) was lower than that at 4 °C (1.44 m3 s−1 × 1029), which was in agreement with the Lifshitz-Slezov-Wagner (LSW) theory. Despite of Ostwald ripening, the droplet size of d-limonene nanoemulsion remained stable after 8 weeks of storage.  相似文献

A high power diode-end-pumped passively Q-switched and mode-locking (QML) Nd:GdVO4 laser at 912 nm was demonstrated for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. A Z-type laser cavity with Cr4+:YAG crystals as the intracavity saturable absorber were employed in the experiments. Influence of the initial transmission (TU) of the saturable absorber on the QML laser performance was investigated. Using the TU = 95% Cr4+:YAG, as much as an average output power of 2.0 W pulsed 912 nm laser was produced at an absorbed pump power of 25.0 W, then the repetition rates of the Q-switched envelope and the mode-locking pulse were ~ 224 kHz and ~ 160 MHz, respectively. Whereas the maximum output power was reduced to 1.3 W using the TU = 90% Cr4+:YAG, we obtained a 100% modulation depth for the mode-locking pulses inside the Q-switched envelope.  相似文献

We have reshaped the TEM00 beam emitted by a diode-pumped Nd-Yag laser by means of an optical homogenizer with zoom. The laser beam, first enlarged up to a size of (100 × 37.5) mm2, is homogenized and resized to a final dimension continuously adjustable from (130 × 4.5) mm2 up to (130 × 52) mm2. We measured the plateau uniformity, the root mean square fluctuation and the edge steepness of the beam according to the ISO standard definitions, showing a poor reliability of the above parameter values due to the definitions themselves, and propose an amendment to overcome this problem. We obtained a very sharp edge steepness, but the spatial coherence of the laser beam put a lower limit to the high-frequency intensity fluctuations on the plateau region of the homogenized beam. Finally, we discuss the optimum homogenizer design for spatially coherent laser beams, including the depth of focus issue.  相似文献

Mechanical properties of engineering material can be improved by introducing compressive residual stress on the material surface and refinement of their microstructure. Variety of mechanical process such as shot peening, water jet peening, ultrasonic peening, laser shot peening were developed in the last decades on this contrast. Among these, lasers shot peening emerged as a novel industrial treatment to improve the crack resistance of turbine blades and the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of austenic stainless steel in power plants. In this study we successfully performed laser shot peening on precipitation hardened aluminum alloy 6061-T6 with low energy (300 mJ, 1064 nm) Nd:YAG laser using different pulse densities of 22 pulses/mm2 and 32 pulses/mm2. Residual stress evaluation based on X-ray diffraction sin2 ψ method indicates a maximum of 190% percentage increase on surface compressive stress. Depth profile of micro-hardness shows the impact of laser generated shock wave up to 1.2 mm from the surface. Apart from that, the crystalline size and micro-strain on the laser shot peened surfaces have been investigated and compared with the unpeened surface using X-ray diffraction in conjunction with line broadening analysis through the Williamson-Hall plot.  相似文献

Single-phase CrN and CrAlN coatings were deposited on silicon and mild steel substrates using a reactive DC magnetron sputtering system. The structural characterization of the coatings was done using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The XRD data showed that both the CrN and CrAlN coatings exhibited B1 NaCl structure with a prominent reflection along (2 0 0) plane. The bonding structure of the coatings was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and the surface morphology of the coatings was studied using atomic force microscopy. Subsequently, nanolayered CrN/CrAlN multilayer coatings with a total thickness of approximately 1 μm were deposited on silicon substrates at different modulation wavelengths (Λ). The XRD data showed that all the multilayer coatings were textured along {2 0 0}. The CrN/CrAlN multilayer coatings exhibited a maximum nanoindentation hardness of 3125 kg/mm2 at a modulation wavelength of 72 Å, whereas single layer CrN and CrAlN deposited under similar conditions exhibited hardness values of 2375 and 2800 kg/mm2, respectively. Structural changes as a result of heating of the multilayer coatings in air (400-800 °C) were characterized using XRD and micro-Raman spectroscopy. The XRD data showed that the multilayer coatings were stable up to a temperature of 650 °C and peaks pertaining to Cr2O3 started appearing at 700 °C. These results were confirmed by micro-Raman spectroscopy. Nanoindentation measurements performed on the heat-treated coatings revealed that the multilayer coatings retained hardness as high as 2250 kg/mm2 after annealing up to a temperature of 600 °C.  相似文献
