In the present paper the unsteady Couette flow and heat transfer of a dusty conducting fluid between two parallel plates with temperature dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity are studied. A constant pressure gradient and an external uniform magnetic field are applied. The governing coupled momentum and energy equations are solved numerically using finite differences. The effect of the variable viscosity and thermal conductivity of the fluid and the uniform magnetic field on the velocity and temperature fields for both the fluid and dust particles is discussed.  相似文献

The influence of variation in physical variables on the steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Couette flow with heat transfer is studied. An external uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the parallel plates and the fluid is acted upon by a constant pressure gradient. The viscosity and the thermal as well as electric conductivities are assumed to be temperature dependent. The two plates are kept at two constant but different temperatures, and the viscous and Joule dissipations are considered in the energy equation. A numerical solution for the governing nonlinear coupled equations of motion and the energy equation is obtained. The effect of the temperature-dependent viscosity, thermal conductivity, and electrical conductivity on both the velocity and temperature distributions is examined. H.A. It is shown that a two-dimensional analogy exists between an inviscid incompressible fluid flow around two finite-length flat plates (Riabouchinsky problem) and that of a straight slot cut in a linear elastic plate having rounded ends that are on the verge of yielding plastically. For the plates, a uniform flow at infinity is assumed in a direction perpendicular to the side-by-side parallel lines that constitute the two-dimensional geometry of the plates. Correspondingly, the slot has a boundary condition at infinity of a uniform shear traction in the antiplane direction. In the fluid flow problem, two free streamlines form at both ends of the flat plates, while in the slotted plate problem, the rounded ends of the traction-free slot surfaces constitute ligaments of perfectly plastic material. The specific shape of the rounded ends of the slot problem can be inferred by analogy with the fluid flow problem.  相似文献

In this paper, we examine the postbuckling behavior of functionally graded material FGM rectangular plates that are integrated with surface-bonded piezoelectric actuators and are subjected to the combined action of uniform temperature change, in-plane forces, and constant applied actuator voltage. A Galerkin-differential quadrature iteration algorithm is proposed for solution of the non-linear partial differential governing equations. To account for the transverse shear strains, the Reddy higher-order shear deformation plate theory is employed. The bifurcation-type thermo-mechanical buckling of fully clamped plates, and the postbuckling behavior of plates with more general boundary conditions subject to various thermo-electro-mechanical loads, are discussed in detail. Parametric studies are also undertaken, and show the effects of applied actuator voltage, in-plane forces, volume fraction exponents, temperature change, and the character of boundary conditions on the buckling and postbuckling characteristics of the plates.  相似文献

This paper studies unsteady laminar flow of dusty conducting fluid between parallel porous plates with temperature dependent viscosity and the Network Simulation Method (NSM) is used to solve the governing nonlinear partial differential equations. The fluid is acted upon by a constant pressure gradient and an external uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the plates that are assumed to be porous. The NSM is applied to solve the steady-state and transient problems of flow and heat transfer for both the fluid and dust particles. With this method, only discretization of the spatial co-ordinates is necessary, while time remains as a real continuous variable. The velocity and temperature are studied for different values of the viscosity and magnetic field parameters.  相似文献

A fully developed mixed convection flow between inclined parallel flat plates filled with a porous medium is considered through which there is a constant flow rate and with heat being supplied to the fluid by the same uniform heat flux on each plate. The equations governing this flow are made non-dimensional and are seen to depend on two dimensionless parameters, a mixed convection parameter λ and the Péclet number Pe, as well as the inclination γ of the plates to the horizontal. The velocity and temperature profiles are obtained in terms of λ, Pe and γ when the channel is inclined in an upwards direction as well as for horizontal channels. The limiting cases of small and large λ and small Pe are considered with boundary-layer structures being seen to develop on the plates for large values of λ.  相似文献

This study investigates the elasto-plastic buckling behaviour of simply supported square and rectangular thin steel plates having elliptic cut-outs by means of finite element method. Plates with simply supported in the out-of-plane direction are applied uniform compression in long-edge direction. A50 steel was used in the analysis and the focus was on the effect of plate aspect ratio, elliptical hole size, elliptical hole angle, elliptical hole location and slenderness ratio on buckling behaviour. It was found in the study that as the plate slenderness ratio increases, the critical buckling stress decreases for all the perforated plates.  相似文献

Of interest in this work are nematic continua that exhibit electromechanical coupling. The first part of this paper presents a novel variational formulation with a potential energy depending on four independent variables (the displacement, director, specific polarization and electric displacement perturbation). Variations of the potential energy with respect to each one of these variables lead to the governing mechanical equilibrium and constitutive relations plus Maxwell’s equations.The proposed variational formulation is next applied to the study of bifurcation of an infinite layer of a nematic liquid crystal confined between two parallel plates and subjected to a uniform electric field perpendicular to these plates under full anchoring boundary conditions. As the electric field exceeds a critical value, the nematic directors which are initially parallel to the plates, rotate and tend to align with the electric field orientation. This phenomenon, termed in the literature as Freedericksz transition, is treated here as a bifurcation problem using a fully 2D formulation. It is shown that the solution corresponding to the lowest applied electric field, also termed the critical load, is uniform in the direction parallel to the plates and that the corresponding bifurcated path is stable near this critical load. This result holds for arbitrary positive constants of the Frank-Oseen energy (and values of electric susceptibility constants that allow bifurcation) and justifies the 1D treatment of the Freedericksz transition in 2D settings that is widely adopted in the liquid crystal literature. An asymptotic analysis of the supercritical, stable bifurcated equilibrium path about the critical load is also presented and compared with the exact bifurcated solution.  相似文献

The classical plate theory can be applied to thin plates made of classical materials like steel. The first theory allowing the analysis of such plates was elaborated by Kirchhoff. But this approach was connected with various limitations (e.g., constant material properties in the thickness direction). In addition, some mathematical inconsistencies like the order of the governing equation and the number of boundary conditions exist. During the last century many suggestions for improvements of the classical plate theory were made. The engineering direction of improvements was ruled by applications (e.g., the use of laminates or sandwiches as the plate material), and so new hypotheses for the derivation of the governing equations were introduced. In addition, some mathematical approaches like power series expansions or asymptotic integration techniques were applied. A conceptional different direction is connected with the direct approach in the plate theory. This paper presents the extension of Zhilin’s direct approach to plates made of functionally graded materials. The second author was supported by DFG grant 436RUS17/21/07.  相似文献

The plate theory of functionally graded materials suggested by Mian and Spencer is extended to analyze the cylindrical bending problem of a functionally graded rectangular plate subject to uniform load. The expansion formula for displacements is adopted. While keeping the assumption that the material parameters can vary along the thickness direction in an arbitrary fashion, this paper considers orthotropic materials rather than isotropic materials. In addition, the traction-free condition on the top surface is replaced with the condition of uniform load applied on the top surface. The plate theory for the particular case Of cylindrical bending is presented by considering an infinite extent in the y-direction. Effects of boundary conditions and material inhomogeneity on the static response of functionally graded plates are investigated through a numerical example.  相似文献

In this article, post-buckling and non-linear bending analysis of functionally graded annular sector plates based on three dimensional theory of elasticity in conjunction with non-linear Green strain tensor is considered. In-plane normal compressive loads have been applied to either radial, circumferential, or all edges of annular sector plates. Material properties are graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of constituents while Poisson׳s ratio is assumed to be constant. The governing equations are developed based on the principle of minimum total potential energy and solved based on graded finite element method. Non-linear equilibrium equations are solved based on iterative Newton–Raphson method. The effects of material gradient exponent, different sector angles, thickness ratio, loading condition and two different boundary conditions on the post-buckling behavior of FGM annular sector plates have been investigated. Results denote that due to the stretching–bending coupling effects of the FGMs, the post-buckling behavior of movable simply supported FGM plates is not of the bifurcation-type buckling. Moreover, FGM annular sector plates subjected to uniaxial compression at radial edges show a non-linear bending behavior with unique and stable equilibrium paths following a flattening feature.  相似文献

Summary The subject of analysis is the bending of elastic plates exhibiting a nonhomogeneous periodic structure and/or a periodically variable thickness in a certain direction parallel to the plate's midplane. The fundamental modelling problem is how to obtain an effective 2D-model of a plate under consideration, i.e., a 2D-model represented by PDEs with constant coefficients. This problem for periodic plates has been solved independently in [5] and [10], using asymptotic homogenization. However, homogenization neglects dynamic phenomena related to the plate's rotational inertia and cannot be applied to the analysis of higher-order vibration frequences. The main aim of this contribution is to formulate a new non-asymptotic effective 2D-model of a periodic plate which is free from the mentioned drawbacks and describes the dynamic behaviour of plates having the thickness of the order of the period length. The proposed model is applied to the analysis of some vibration problems.  相似文献

In this paper, a steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a dusty incompressible electrically conducting Oldroyd 8-constant fluid through a circular pipe is examined with considering the ion slip effect. A constant pressure gradient in the axial direction and an external uniform magnetic field in the perpendicular direction are applied. A numerical solution is obtained for the governing nonlinear momentum equations by using finite differences. The effect of the ion slip, the non-Newtonian fluid characteristics, and the particle-phase viscosity on the velocity, volumetric flow rates, and skin friction coefficients of both the fluid and particle phases is reported.  相似文献

A hydrodynamic model for the electrorheological effect in a polymeric nematic confined in a rectangular cell is studied. The competition between a constant electric and a uniform shear flow is explicitly considered. For the final stationary state where the induced reorientation of the director has already occurred, we show that the averaged viscosity is enhanced. For this same state several rheological properties such as the first normal stress difference and the force between the cell plates are also analytically calculated as a function of position, the applied field, and Reynolds' number. These results are compared with those obtained previously for a pressure driven flow. The scope and limitations of the model and methods employed are discussed. The exact analytic solutions of two problems of a second order fluid in presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field are investigated. The governing equation is of fourth order ordinary differential equation and is solved using perturbation method. In the first problem we discuss the flow of a second order fluid due to non-coaxial rotations of a porous disk and a fluid at infinity. In second problem the flow of a second order conducting fluid between two infinite plates rotating about the same axis is investigated, with suction or blowing along the axial direction. For second order conducting fluid it is observed that asymptotic solution exists for the velocity both in the case of suction and blowing.  相似文献

This paper presents a study on the buckling and vibration of initially stressed composite plates with temperature-dependent material properties in thermal environments. The initial stress is taken to be a combination of a pure bending stress and an axial stress. The temperature distribution in the plate is assumed to be uniform and linear in the transverse direction. The governing equations including the transverse shear deformation effects are established using the variational method. The effects of various parameters on the buckling and vibration behaviors of laminated plates with respective temperature-dependent and temperature-independent material properties are investigated. The buckling load and natural frequency are sensitive to the thermal stresses and initial stresses. Numerical results reveal that temperature-dependent material properties should be considered in the buckling and vibration analysis for laminated plates under thermal conditions.  相似文献

An experimental analysis about the flow patterns that appear in the channel formed between two corrugated plates with an egg carton configuration is reported. The types of flow instabilities caused by the corrugated plates are identified and described by means of flow visualization experiments, and photographic sequences illustrate the flow features present for each case. The influence on flow instabilities of Reynolds number, phase angle, convergence/divergence angle and spacing between corrugated plates is investigated. The corrugated plates are set divergent and convergent in order to investigate if recirculations are broken by chaotic advection. The improvement of heat transfer in the laminar regime has become an essential task in many applications and therefore the experiments are conducted in this regime.The corrugated plates geometry provides two main advantages over the conventional plane plates: the recirculation zones observed in the longitudinal direction and the three-dimensionality of the flow, i.e. the recirculations reduce the thermal resistances while the three-dimensionality of flow generates a better mixing and a more uniform temperature distribution.This experimental study contributes to the general knowledge on the subject being the first that addresses the analysis of convergent and divergent egg carton plates. It is expected that the results presented here will shed some light as to advantageously use these geometries in the near-future heat exchangers. (Because of the improve chaotic mixing in divergent corrugated plates, this configuration may be a good option to improve heat exchangers performance, because a better mixing is always related to the presence of core fluid near exchange surfaces, and consequently an increase in temperature gradients and heat transfer.)  相似文献
