In this work the scattering of a brief light pulse by a homogeneous spherical particle is studied within the framework of linear electrodynamics. Convenient formulas are obtained for the scattered fields of the pulse. This paper presents experimental and theoretical results from an investigation of the excitation and propagation of converging pressure waves in cylindrical shells made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) producing spalling phenomena in the inner surface of the shell. It is found that fracture of the inner surface of a cylindrical shell requires a greater load as compared to the fracture of the rear side of a planar plate of the same material. The reasons for the observed phenomena are analyzed. The experimental results are compared with the results of a numerical simulation that takes into account phenomena occurring in the nonlinear region of elastoplastic deformation of polymer materials used as a base and in composite materials. A novel atomic lens scheme is reported. A cylindrical lens potential was created by a large period ( 45 m) standing light wave perpendicular to a beam of metastable He atoms. The lens aperture (25 m) was centered in one antinode of the standing wave; the laser frequency was nearly resonant with the atomic transition 23 S 1–23 P 2 (=1.083 m) and the interaction time was significantly shorter than the spontaneous lifetime (100 ns) of the excited state. The thickness of the lens was given by the laser beam waist (40 m) in the direction of the atomic beam. Preliminary results are presented, where an atomic beam is focused down to a spot size of 4 m. Also, a microfabricated grating with a period of 8 m was imaged. We discuss the principle limitations of the spatial resolution of the lens given by spherical and chromatic aberrations as well as by diffraction. The fact that this lens is very thin offers new perspectives for deep focusing into the nm range.  相似文献

Focusing of an atomic beam by a Fresnel atom microlens formed by an optical field diffracted by an aperture whose size is comparable to or greater than the radiation wavelength is considered. It is shown that the dipole gradient force enables one to focus the atomic beam to a spot of about 10 nm in diameter. The focusing properties of a Fresnel atom microlens are analyzed within a model describing the dipole interaction of rubidium atoms with monochromatic radiation near the D-line.  相似文献

One-dimensional focusing of an atomic beam from a flat reflector is experimentally demonstrated. Focusing occurs because gravity changes the momentum transfer perpendicular to the surface depending on the height of the reflecting point. A method for focusing neutral atoms based on the light-pressure force in a nonuniform magnetic field is proposed and analyzed. Its particular scheme is realized by means of a two-dimensional magneto-optical trap using a thermal beam of Rb atoms. A feature of this focusing method is the linear dependence of the focal length on the longitudinal velocity of atoms in contrast to the quadratic dependence in the known methods of focusing material-particle beams. The minimum size of the waist of the focused atomic beam is equal to 270 μm. Owing to focusing by means of the two-dimensional magneto-optical trap, the velocity monochromatization of a thermal atomic beam is realized: the width of the distribution of the longitudinal atomic velocities in the beam is reduced from 350 to 60 m/s. 通过对电磁感应透明模型的理论推导和数值模拟,讨论了光场和原子能级间有失谐 的光脉冲信息的存储过程. 结果表明:只有在光场和原子能级共振时,光和原子相互作用系 统的存储态才能最终演化到暗态. 随着失谐量的增大,只有部分信号光脉冲存储于冷原子介质中,并且光脉冲负群速度的绝对值逐渐增大,导致在介质中“读出”信号光相对于“读入”信号光的位置有明显的倒退现象. 对于能级上下对称相同失谐的情况,存储过程中系统各 物理量的演化过程几乎相同. 关键词: 光存储 失谐 暗态 电磁感应透明  相似文献

The scattering process of an unpolarized Bessel beam through spherical scatterers is investigated. We derive the analytical solutions of scattered fields of x-and y-polarized Bessel beams using a sphere, after which the dimensionless scattering function for an unpolarized Bessel beam is obtained. The dimensionless scattering function is applicable to spherical scatterers of any size on the beam axis or near it. Through numerical simulations, we demonstrate that extreme points exist in the direction or neighboring direction of the conical angle for spherical scatterers on the beam axis, whereas the existence of extreme points depends on the ratio between the spherical scatterers size and central spot size of the Bessel beam.  相似文献

A solution to the problem of Gaussian beam scattering by an anisotropically coated circular cylinder is presented. The incident Gaussian beam source is expanded as an approximate expression in the simple form with a Tayor’s series. The transmitted field in the anisotropically coated region is expressed as a infinite summation of eigen plane waves with different polar angles. The unknown coefficients of the scattered fields are obtained with the aid of the boundary conditions. The infinite series can be truncated under the prerequisite of achieving the solution convergence. Only the case of transverse-electric polarization is discussed. The similar formulation of transverse-magnetic polarization can be obtained by adopting the similar method. Some numerical results are presented and discussed. The result is in agreement with that available as expected when the Gaussian beam degenerates to a plane wave incidence case.  相似文献

The Landau-Dykhne approximation for the spectrum of above-threshold electrons produced upon ionization of atoms by a monochromatic laser field is used to calculate the spectrum in the case of ionization by a short laser pulse. The spectra obtained in this way are compared with those calculated by the adiabatic theory. The comparison shows that the Landau-Dykhne approximation with the properly chosen exponential factor describes well the averaged spectrum.  相似文献

We consider the scattering of a narrow pulse wave beam by a randomly rough surface with a complex local scattering indicatrix. Analytical expressions are found for the mean received power for a normal distribution of heights and slopes of the surface in two cases: where the direction to the receiver is close to the direction of mirror reflection and where the direction to the receiver is very different from the direction of mirror reflection. It is shown that in these two cases the echo pulse is very different in shape and is controlled by the parameters of the source and receiver, the sounding scheme, and the variance of heights of a rough surface. The received power is strongly dependent on the width of the local scattering indicatrix, and the form of this dependence is determined by the angles of illumination and reception. Closed analytic expressions are derived for the probability of multiphoton atomic and ionic ionization in a variable electric field ?(t), which are applicable for arbitrary Keldysh parameters γ. Dependencies of the ionization probability and photoelectron pulse spectrum on the shape of a very short laser pulse are analyzed. Examples of pulse fields of various forms, including a modulated light pulse with a Gaussian or Lorentz envelope, are considered in detail. The interference effect in the photoelectron energy spectrum during atomic ionization by a periodic field of a general form is examined. The range of applicability of the adiabatic approximation in the multiphoton ionization theory is discussed. The imaginary time method is used in the calculations, which allows the probability of particle tunneling through oscillating barriers to be effectively calculated.  相似文献

The exact scattering by a sphere centered on a Bessel beam is expressed as a partial wave series involving the scattering angle relative to the beam axis and the conical angle of the wave vector components of the Bessel beam. The sphere is assumed to have isotropic material properties so that the nth partial wave amplitude for plane wave scattering is proportional to a known partial-wave coefficient. The scattered partial waves in the Bessel beam case are also proportional to the same partial-wave coefficient but now the weighting factor depends on the properties of the Bessel beam. When the wavenumber-radius product ka is large, for rigid or soft spheres the scattering is peaked in the backward and forward directions along the beam axis as well as in the direction of the conical angle. These properties are geometrically explained and some symmetry properties are noted. The formulation is also suitable for elastic and fluid spheres. A partial wave expansion of the Bessel beam is noted.  相似文献

We calculate the shape of the deflection profile of a monoenergetic atomic beam crossing a laser standing wave, in a situation where many spontaneous emission processes occur during the interaction time. Nonstationary absorption of the energy of a short electromagnetic-radiation pulse in a superdense semibounded plasma is considered. An approach is proposed for finding the electron distribution function, wherein the region of the skin layer (in the anomalous skin-effect regime) is described as a boundary condition for the distribution function over the entire plasma volume. The scattering of an ultrashort electromagnetic pulse by atomic particles is described using a consistent quantum-mechanical approach taking into account excitation of a target and nondipole electromagnetic interaction, which is valid in a broad spectral range. This approach is applied to the scattering of single- and few-cycle pulses by a multielectron atom and a hydrogen atom. Scattering spectra are obtained for ultrashort pulses of different durations. The relative contribution of “elastic” scattering of a single-cycle pulse by a hydrogen atom is studied in the high-frequency limit as a function of the carrier frequency and scattering angle.  相似文献
