In the framework of the ESA Future Launchers Preparatory Program (FLPP) an experimental study on the aerodynamic behavior during the re-entry phase of the Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle (IXV) configuration was conducted in the DLR hypersonic wind tunnel H2K in Cologne. Tests were carried out at Mach 6.0 and 8.7 with different flap deflection angles and the angle of attack varied continuously between 20° and 55° to investigate the flow topology as well as the aerodynamic forces and moments and the surface pressure distribution. The experimental data show that depending on the combination of the flap deflection angle (δ L/R) and angle of attack (α) the complex flow structure in the vicinity of the flaps significantly influences the vehicle’s aerodynamic coefficients. An analysis of this shock/shock and shock/boundary layer interaction causing flow separation with reattachment is performed.  相似文献

Natural convection heat transfer in an inclined fin attached square enclosure is studied both experimentally and numerically. Bottom wall of enclosure has higher temperature than that of top wall while vertical walls are adiabatic. Inclined fin has also adiabatic boundary conditions. Numerical solutions have been done by writing a computer code in Fortran platform and results are compared with Fluent commercial code and experimental method. Governing parameters are Rayleigh numbers (8.105 ≤ Ra ≤ 4 × 106) and inclination angle (30° ≤ and ≤ 120°). The temperature measurements are done by using thermocouples distributed uniformly at the wall of the enclosure. Remarkably good agreement is obtained between the predicted results and experimental data. A correlation is also developed including all effective parameters on heat transfer and fluid flow. It was observed that heat transfer can be controlled by attaching an inclined fin onto wall.  相似文献

The heat transfer, pressure drop and flow patterns during flow boiling of R407C in a horizontal microfin tube have been investigated. The microfin tube is made of copper with a total fin number of 55 and a helix angle of 15°. The fin height is 0.24 mm and the inner tube diameter at fin root is 8.95 mm. The test tube is 1 m long. It is heated electrically. The experiments have been performed at saturation temperatures between −30°C and +10°C. The mass flux was varied between 25 and 300 kg/m2/s, the heat flux from 20,000 W/m2 down to 1,000 W/m2. The vapour quality was kept constant at 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 at the inlet and 0.8, 1.0 at the outlet, respectively. The measured heat transfer coefficient is compared with the correlations of Cavallini et al., Shah as well as Zhang et al. Cavallini’s correlation contains seven experimental constants. After fitting these constants to our measured values, the correlation achieves good agreement. The measured pressure drop is compared to the correlations of Pierre, Kuo and Wang as well as Müller-Steinhagen and Heck. The best agreement is achieved with the correlation of Kuo and Wang. Almost all values are calculated within an accuracy of ±30%. The flow regimes were observed. It is shown, that changes in the flow regime affect the heat transfer coefficient significantly.  相似文献

The pattern of shock wave reflection over a wedge is, in general, either a regular reflection or a Mach reflection, depending on wedge angles, shock wave Mach numbers, and specific heat ratios of gases. However, regular and Mach reflections can coexist, in particular, over a three-dimensional wedge surface, whose inclination angles locally vary normal to the direction of shock propagation. This paper reports a result of diffuse double exposure holographic interferometric observations of shock wave reflections over a skewed wedge surface placed in a 100 × 180 mm shock tube. The wedge consists of a straight generating line whose local inclination angle varies continuously from 30° to 60°. Painting its surface with fluorescent spray paint and irradiating its surface with a collimated object beam at a time interval of a few microseconds, we succeeded in visualizing three-dimensional shock reflection over the skewed wedge surface. Experiments were performed at shock Mach numbers, 1.55, 2.02, and 2.53 in air. From reconstructed holographic images, we estimated critical transition angles at these shock wave Mach numbers and found that these were very close to those over straight wedges. This is attributable to the flow three-dimensionality.   相似文献

The convective heat transfer from fins to air has been evaluated using rotating annular fins subjected to an air flow parallel to the fins. The fin cooling is studied using infrared thermography. The thermal balance in a fin during its cooling process allows us to obtain the heat transfer coefficient from the temperature time evolution of the fin. Moreover, Particle Image Velocimetry allows us to obtain the flow field in the mid-plane between two fins. The influence of the fin spacing on the convective heat transfer is studied for various velocities of the superposed air flow and various fin rotational speeds. These tests were carried out for air flow Reynolds numbers (based on the shaft diameter and the velocity of the superposed air flow) between 2550 and 18200 and rotational Reynolds numbers (based on the shaft diameter and the peripheral speed) between 800 and 2.9 × 104, for different fin spacings. This paper presents the comparative studies on the effect of duct height on heat transfer and flow behavior between co-angular and co-rotating type finned surface in duct. Experiments were performed to investigate the effect of duct height on heat transfer enhancement of a surface affixed with arrays (7 × 7) of short rectangular plate fins of a co-angular and a co-rotating type pattern in the duct. An infrared imaging system with the camera of TVS 8000 was used to measure the temperature distributions to calculate the local heat transfer coefficients of the representative fin regions. Pressure drop and heat transfer experiments were performed for both types of fin pattern varying the duct to fin height ratio (H d/H f) of 2.0–5.0. The friction factor calculated from the pressure drop shows that friction factor decreases with increasing the duct to fin height ratio (H d/H f) regardless of fin pattern and this is expected because the larger friction occurs for smaller duct to fin height ratios. Detailed heat transfer distribution gives a clear picture of heat transfer characteristics of the overall surface as well as the influence of the duct height. In addition, different flow behavior and flow structure developed by both patterns were visualized by the smoke flow visualization technique.  相似文献

In the present study, the regionally-averaged heat transfer coefficients and flow temperature distributions were measured in an equilateral triangular channel with three different rib arrangements (α = 45, 90 and 135°). To measure regionally-averaged heat transfer coefficients in the channel, two rows of copper blocks and a single heater were installed on two ribbed walls. The fluid temperature distributions were obtained using a thermocouple-array. The rotation number ranged from 0.0 to 0.1 with a fixed Reynolds number of 10,000. For the 90° ribs, the heat transfer coefficients on the pressure side surface were increased significantly with rotation, while the suction side surface had lower heat transfer coefficients than the stationary channel. For the angled ribs, rib-induced secondary flow dominated the heat transfer characteristics and high heat transfer rates were observed on the regions near the inner wall for the 45° angled ribs and near the leading edge for the 135° angled ribs.  相似文献

Steady state two-dimensional free convection heat transfer from a horizontal, isothermal fin attached cylinder, located between nearly two adiabatic walls is studied experimentally using a Mach–Zehnder interferometer. Effects of the walls inclination angel (θ) on heat transfer from the cylinder is investigated for Rayleigh number ranging from 1000 to 15,500. Two cylinders with different diameters of D = 10 and 20 mm are used to cover wide Rayleigh range. Results indicate that, heat transfer phenomena differ for different Rayleigh number. For Rayleigh numbers lower than 5500, heat transfer rate from cylinder surface is lower than the heat transfer from a single cylinder. In this range by the use of walls, heat transfer from the cylinder decreases slightly and walls’ inclination does not change heat transfer rate from the cylinder surface. For Rayleigh number ranging from 5500 to 15,500, amount of heat transfer from the cylinder surface is less than that of a single cylinder. However, by adding nearly adiabatic walls to experimental model heat transfer mechanism differs and chimney effect between fin and walls increases the heat transfer rate from the cylinder surface. By increasing the walls inclination angel from 0° to 20°, the chimney effect between walls and fin diminishes and heat transfer rate from the cylinder surface is approaching to the heat transfer rate of fin attached cylinder without adiabatic walls.  相似文献

The flow and heat transfer in an inclined and horizontal rectangular duct with a heated plate longitudinally mounted in the middle of cross section was experimentally investigated. The heated plate and rectangular duct were both made of highly conductive materials, and the heated plate was subjected to a uniform heat flux. The heat transfer processes through the test section were under various operating conditions: Pr ≈ 0.7, inclination angle ϕ = −60° to +60°, Reynolds number Re = 334–1,911, Grashof number Gr = 5.26 × 102–5.78 × 106. The experimental results showed that the average Nusselt number in the entrance region was 1.6–2 times as large as that in the fully developed region. The average Nusselt numbers and pressure drops increased with the Reynolds number. The average Nusselt numbers and pressure drops decreased with an increase in the inclination angle from −60° to +60° when the Reynolds number was less than 1,500. But when the Reynolds number increased to over about 1,800, the heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops were independent of inclination angles.  相似文献

This paper is the part 2 of our previous thin film heat transfer measurements. In the first report we measured time variations of heat flux over a cylinder placed in a shock tube flow and compared experimental results with CFD results, Saito et al. (Shock Waves 14:327–333, 2004). We report a result of heat transfer measurements over an 86° apex angle cone surface impinged by a Ms = 2.38 shock wave in air with distributed thin film transfer gauges along cone surface and its comparison with results of numerical simulations. We performed double exposure holographic interferometric observation, and also from the heat transfer measurement and numerical simulation, confirmed the presence of delayed transition from regular to Mach reflection over the cone. The numerical estimation of delayed transition distance from the apex agreed very well with experimental one.   相似文献

In the present study, the potential of rectangular fins with 30° and 90° angle and 10 mm offset from the horizontal direction for heat transfer enhancement in a plate fin heat exchanger is numerically evaluated with conjugated heat transfer approach. The rectangular fins are mounted on the flat plate channel. The numerical computations are performed by solving a steady, three-dimensional Navier–Stokes equation and an energy equation by using Fluent software program. Air is taken as working fluid. The study is carried out at Re = 400 and inlet temperatures, velocities of cold and hot air are fixed as 300, 600 K and 1.338, 0.69 m/s, respectively. Colburn factor j versus Re design data is presented by using Fluent. The results show that the heat transfer is increased by 10 % at the exit of channel with fin angle of 30° when compared to channel without fin for counter flow. The heat transfer enhancement with fins of 30° and 90° for different values of Reynolds number with 300, 500 and 800 and for varying fin heights, fin intervals and also temperature distributions of fluids on the top and bottom surface of the channel are investigated for parallel and counter flow.  相似文献

Gas flow and heat transfer on the surfaces of sharp and blunt plates is experimentally investigated in the presence of two forward-looking wedges at the Mach numbers M = 5, 6, and 8 and the Reynolds numbers up to ReL = 27×106. It is shown that the entropy layer generated by a small bluntness of the leading edge of the plate can considerably change the heat transfer, the gas pressure, and the friction in the zone of interference of the shock with the plate boundary layer. Under certain conditions a small plate bluntness can also lead to a qualitative change in the flow structure. The effect of constriction of the channel between the wedges on the interference flow is studied.  相似文献

In a shock tube the pressure distribution was measured on a cone with an angle of attack when a shock wave passed the cone. The cone has a semi-apex angle of 35°, the angle of attack varied from 0° to 25° and the shock Mach numbers from 1.05 to 3.0. A series of pressure distributions on the cone circumference are given. Supersonic flow past a cylindrical body with a system of transverse jets ejected from its surface at angles of attack α=60–120o is characterized by a complicated gasdynamic flow pattern [1]. The body surface is affected by both the oncoming flow and the ejected jets which shield a portion of the surface from the external flow. This results in considerable transverse and longitudinal pressure gradients appearing on the body surface. The experimental pressure distributions over a cylindrical model with four transverse jets at a Mach number M=4 and α=60°, 90°, and 120° make it possible to study the specific features of the flowfield and derive correlations for the "jet obstacle" dimensions. An experimental study has been conducted to examine the control effectiveness of dimples on the glancing shock wave turbulent boundary layer interaction produced by a series of hemi-cylindrically blunted fins at Mach numbers 0.8 and 1.4, and at angles of sweep 0°, 15°, 30° and 45°. Schlieren photography, oil flow, pressure sensitive paints, and pressure tappings were employed to examine the characteristics of the induced flow field. The passive control technique used a series of 2 mm diameter, 1 mm deep indents drilled across the hemi-cylindrical leading edge at angles 0°, 45° and 90°. The effects of dimples were highly dependent on their orientation relative to the leading edge apex, and the local boundary layer properties.   相似文献

An experimental investigation of flow boiling heat transfer in a commercially available microfin tube with 9.52 mm outer diameter has been carried out. The microfin tube is made of copper with a total fin number of 55 and a helix angle of 15°. The fin height is 0.24 mm and the inner tube diameter at fin root is 8.95 mm. The test tube is 1 m long and is electrically heated. The experiments have been performed at saturation temperatures between 0 and −20°C. The mass flux was varied between 25 and 150 kg/m2s, the heat flux from 15,000 W/m2 down to 1,000 W/m2. All measurements have been performed at constant inlet vapour quality ranging from 0.1 to 0.7. The measured heat transfer coefficients range from 1,300 to 15,700 W/m2K for R134a and from 912 to 11,451 W/m2K for R404A. The mean heat transfer coefficient of R134a is in average 1.5 times higher than for R404A. The mean heat transfer coefficient has been compared with the correlations by Koyama et al. and by Kandlikar. The deviations are within ±30% and ±15%, respectively. The influence of the mass flux on the heat transfer is most significant between 25 and 62.5 kg/m2s, where the flow pattern changes from stratified wavy flow to almost annular flow. This flow pattern transition is shifted to lower mass fluxes for the microfin tube compared to the smooth tube.  相似文献

An experimental and computational investigation has been performed to investigate flow characteristics and flow-field structures for three types of rectangular cavities. The data presented herein was obtained with cavity length to depth ratio of 6, 10 and 15 at 0° of attack, yawing and rolling angles of 0° over free-stream Mach numbers of 0.6, 0.8, 1.2 and 1.5 at Reynolds numbers of 1.23 ×107, 1.55 ×107, 2.01 ×107 and 2.26 ×107 per meter. The results indicate that the shear-layer expands over the cavity leading edge and impinges on the cavity floor for closed cavity flow, whereas it bridges the open cavity. The static pressure distributions are relatively uniform with the exception of a small adverse gradient occurring ahead of the rear face inside open cavity. Cavity length to depth ratio is a key geometrical parameter to define cavity flow types and influent pressure distributions inside cavities, and its decrease induces a decrease in pressure gradient. Increase in free-stream Mach numbers results in the trend that cavity flow types transform from closed to transitional cavity flow and from transitional to open cavity flow.  相似文献

The laminar near wake behind a sharp wedge with the semi-vertex angle of 10° and a flat base section placed at zero incidence in a Mach 6 uniform perfect-gas flow with the specific heat ratio 1.4 at Reynolds numbers ranging from 3 × 102 to 105 is considered. The study is carried out on the basis of the numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. The results on the base pressure and the pressure and local stagnation temperature distributions along the plane of symmetry and in several cross-sections in the near wake are compared in detail with the data [1].  相似文献

Experimental studies on flow visualization and heat transfer measurements of finned surface in a narrow duct were carried out to understand the flow behavior and its effect on heat transfer. In this experiment, short rectangular fins were attached to a surface (endwall) with having inclination angle of 20° and exposed to air flow. Several flow visualization results reveal that horse shoe vortex was formed just at the front of the fin whereas the main longitudinal vortex was formed by the side top edge of the fin. Some important features of the vortex structure, size and flow reattachment positions were noticed from the smoke flow visualization. Detailed heat transfer distributions were discussed from the thermal image. Nusselt number shows that the finned surface achieved average heat transfer enhancement at a factor of four times than that of without fins.  相似文献
