Three post-column ion chromatographic methods (i.e., a sodium bromide–sodium nitrite method, an o-dianisidine method, and a potassium iodide–ammonium heptamolybdate method) were compared for bromate and nitrite analysis. Also, the effect of direct mixing of the reagents without ion suppressors for the sodium bromide–sodium nitrite method and the potassium iodide–ammonium heptamolybdate method was investigated. For the analysis of bromate, the three methods showed similar method detection limits (0.17–0.24 μg/l) with pneumatic reagent delivery systems. Direct reagent mixing achieved comparable detection limits to the suppressor configuration. The three methods are also compatible with conductivity detection. When used in combination with conductivity detection, this compatibility allows simultaneous analysis of bromate, nitrite, and other common ions in drinking water, such as bromide. It was found that the o-dianisidine method achieves μg/l-level detection of nitrite and bromate with a simpler configuration than the potassium iodide–ammonium heptamolybdate method, while the sodium bromide–sodium nitrite method was not sufficiently sensitive for nitrite analysis at the μg/l level.  相似文献

The short lifetime of nitric oxide (NO) in vivo impedes its quantitation directly; however, the determination of nitrite and nitrate ions as the end-products of NO oxidation has proven a more practical approach. High-performance ion chromatographic analysis of nitrite in biological fluids is hampered by the large amount of chloride ion (up to 100mmol/l) which results in insufficient peak resolution when utilizing conductimetric detection. Analysis of both anions in small sample volumes is also constrained by the need to minimise sample handling to avoid contamination by environmental nitrate. We report a means to remove Cl ions from small sample volumes using Ag+ resin which facilitates quantitation of either nitrite and nitrate anions in biological samples, using silica or polymer based ion-exchange resins with conductimetric or electrochemical and spectrophotometric detection. Including a reversed-phase guard column before the anion-exchange guard and analytical column also greatly extends column lifetime.  相似文献

A user-friendly ion chromatography method in conjunction with a post-column reaction (PCR) achieves practical quantitation limits for the oxyhalides bromate and chlorite of 0.05 μg/l and 0.10 μg/l, respectively. This level of measurement allows for the accurate assessment of bromate contributed to finished drinking waters that have been chlorinated using sodium hypochlorite. The target sensitivity of oxyhalides in the presence of other major ion species typically found in drinking water is achieved by PCR using excess bromide under acidic conditions to form a tribromide species that is detected by ultraviolet spectrometry. The method setup involves non-hazardous materials, as opposed to other recently developed methods that employ somewhat hazardous chemicals for generating the reaction necessary for the detection of bromate at sub-μg/l levels. No pretreatment of the samples is required, other than filtration and quenching of oxidant residual.  相似文献

Determination of nitrite and nitrate in human serum   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
A simple and effective assay for nitrite and nitrate in human serum has been developed using ion chromatography. Initial experiments using isocratic carbonate-bicarbonate elution with conductivity detection on a Dionex QIC system with an AS4A-SC column showed promise but were unsatisfactory because of co-elution problems with nitrite. Carbonate and chloride were investigated as eluents using a gradient system, and direct UV detection at 214 nm was used in place of conductivity detection. Dionex AS4A, AS9A, AS12, Nucleopac PA-100 and Carbopac PA-100 columns were compared for selectivity and resistance to overload. The final method, using a chloride concentration gradient, pH buffering and direct UV detection with a Carbopac PA-100 column, shows good resolution, does not suffer from chloride overload and is simple to use. The method is being used in an investigation of the role of nitric oxide in pre-eclampsia, a hypertensive disorder during pregnancy.  相似文献

A simple, sensitive and selective method for the simultaneous determination of nitrite and nitrate in water samples has been developed. The method is based on ion-exchange separation, online photochemical reaction, and luminol chemiluminescence detection. The separation of nitrite and nitrate was achieved using an anion-exchange column with a 20 mM borate buffer (pH 10.0). After the separation, these ions were converted to peroxynitrite by online UV irradiation using a low-pressure mercury lamp and then mixed with a luminol solution prepared with carbonate buffer (pH 10.0). The calibration graphs of the nitrite and nitrate were linear in the range from 2.0 × 10−9 to 2.5 × 10−6 M and 2.0 × 10−8 to 2.5 × 10−5 M, respectively. Since the sensitivity of nitrite was about 10 times higher than that of nitrate, the simultaneous determination of nitrite and nitrate in the water samples could be efficiently achieved. This method was successfully applied to various water samples – river water, pond water, rain water, commercial mineral water, and tap water – with only filtration and dilution steps.  相似文献

Nitrite can be determined by its reaction with 2-aminobiphenyl in acidic medium to produce 2-phenylphenol which is quantified by gas chromatography with flame ionisation detection using biphenyl as an internal standard. The hydrolysis of the intermediate diazonium ion avoids many of the problems encountered in the conventional determination of nitrite by the diazotization of an aromatic amine (usually sulphanilamide) and coupling with N-(1-napthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride to yield an azo dye followed by spectrophotometry. Unlike this method, the proposed reaction is rapid and does not suffer from interferences by copper(II), iron(III) and lead(II). The calibration graph was linear over the range 5–1000 μg/l NO2-N and the limit of detection found to be 0.5 μg/l NO2-N. A single analysis can be completed within 20 min. The method was not affected by coloured or turbid analyte solutions and has been used to determine nitrite in natural waters.  相似文献

Ammonium perchlorate, a key ingredient in solid rocket propellants, has recently been found in ground and surface waters in the USA in a number of states, including California, Nevada, Utah, and West Virginia. Perchlorate poses a health risk and preliminary data from the US Environmental Protection Agency reports that exposure to less than 4–18 μg/l provides adequate human health protection. An ion chromatographic method was developed for the determination of low μg/l levels of perchlorate in drinking and ground waters based on a Dionex IonPac AS11 column, a 100 mM hydroxide eluent, large loop (1000 μl) injection, and suppressed conductivity detection. The method is free of interferences from common anions, linear in the range of 2.5–100 μg/l, and quantitative recoveries were obtained for low μg/l levels of perchlorate in spiked drinking and ground water samples. The method detection limit of 0.3 μg/l permits quantification of perchlorate below the levels which ensure adequate health protection. A new polarizable anion analysis column, the IonPac AS16, and its potential applicability for this analysis is also discussed.  相似文献

In July 1997, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began sampling and analyzing drinking water matrices from US municipalities serving populations greater than 100 000 for low-level bromate (>0.20 μg/l) in support of the Information Collection Rule (ICR) using the selective anion concentration (SAC) method. In September 1997, EPA published Method 300.1 which lowered the Method 300.0 bromate method detection limit (MDL) from 20.0 to 1.4 μg/l. This paper describes the research conducted at the EPA’s Technical Support Center laboratory investigating a single post-column reagent, o-dianisidine (ODA), which has been successfully coupled to EPA Method 300.1 to extend the MDL for bromate. Initial studies indicate that this method offers a MDL which approaches the EPA’s SAC method with the added benefit of increased specificity, shortened analysis time and reduced sample preparation. The method provides excellent ruggedness and acceptable precision and accuracy with a bromate MDL in reagent water of 0.1 μg/l, and a method reporting limit of 0.50 μg/l.  相似文献

During an investigation into the mechanism of the biosynthesis of thyroid hormones, it became necessary to determine traces of iodide and bromide in biological matrices as well as in food. A vydac 302-IC anion-exchange column with methanesulphonic acid as the mobile phase was used for the ion chromatographic separation of iodide and bromide. A post-column reaction detector was developed based on the reaction between iodide or bromide, chloramine-T and 4,4'-bis(dimethylamino)diphenylmethane. Methods with minimal sample preparation are described for determination of iodide or bromide in serum, milk, salt and water. The detection limit is ca. 20 pg iodide and 15 ng bromide injected.  相似文献

Summary Disodium salts of several anthraquinone-disulfonic acids, which possess large molar absorptivity, were employed as the visualization agent for microcolumn ion chromatography with indirect photometric detection. Detection limits of inorganic anions were improved, e.g., concentration detection limits of chloride, nitrate and sulfate were 0.91–1.6 mol L–1 at S/N=3, corresponding to mass detection limits of 18–32 fmol. The present system was applied to the determination of inorganic anions in tap water.  相似文献

To prevent nutrient enrichment and, hence the undesirable ecological impacts, the nutrients monitored in wastewater samples include two anionic species, i.e., nitrate and orthophosphate, and a cationic species, ammonium. Ion chromatography (IC) is one of the popularly used techniques for determinations of nitrate and phosphate in these samples, whereas determination of ammonium in wastewater samples is typically done using manual or automated wet chemistry, e.g., flow injection analysis (FIA). We have developed a sequential IC–FIA method, using Lachat’s QC8000 IC system, which allows determinations of nitrate, phosphate and ammonia in a single injection. In this system, a QuikChem Small Suppressor cartridge is regenerated in between the samples. A sample is injected while leaving the suppressor off-line. Ammonium, a cation, elutes in the void volume of an anion-exchange column. The unsuppressed column effluent, exiting the conductivity flow cell, up to this point is used for FIA determination of ammonia. When ammonia exits the conductivity flow cell, a fully regenerated suppressor is brought in-line for conductometric detection of the anions. Analog data are simultaneously acquired from colorimetric and conductometric detectors, for the cationic and anionic nutrients, respectively. The method is accurate with spike recoveries in wastewater samples ranging from 91% for nitrate to 114% for chloride. It is precise with RSD values, for replicate analyses (n=7) of a mid-range standard, ranging from 0.4% for phosphate to 1% for nitrate.  相似文献

Summary Microcolumn ion chromatography of inorganic anions has been studied using bovine serum albumin immobilized on silica gel as a stationary phase. Several mobile phase solutions were examined, involving sodium iodide, potassium hydrogen phthalate, 2,6-anthraquinone disulfonate (2,6-AQDS) and sodium salicylate. 2,6-AQDS achieved better separation of the analytes tested. Chloride, nitrate, iodide, thiocyanate and sulphate could be separated within 8 min. Detection limits were in the range of 0.9–2.9 M, corresponding to mass detection limits of 0.18–0.59 pmol. The system was applied to the determination of inorganic anions in environmental water and biological samples.  相似文献

This paper describes an electrostatic ion chromatographic system in which the separation selectivity for inorganic anions, especially for sulfate and phosphate, could be manipulated by altering the molar ratio of the zwitterionic and cationic surfactants in the column coating solution used to prepare the stationary phase. The zwitterionic surfactant used for this study was 3-(N,N-dimethyltetradecylammonio)propanesulfonate (Zwittergent-3-14) and the cationic surfactant was tetradecyltrimethylammonium (TTA). Using a reversed-phase C18 column (250×4.6 mm I.D.) coated with 10/10 (mM/mM) of TTA/Zwittergent-3-14 mixed micelles as the stationary phase and either NaHCO3 or Na2CO3 aqueous solution as the eluent, together with suppressed conductivity detection, baseline separation of seven model inorganic anions was obtained. The elution order for those anions was found to be F42−42−23. Under the same conditions but using 1/10 (mM/mM) of TTA/Zwittergent-3-14 mixed micelles as the column coating solution, the elution order for these model ions was F42−42−23. The early elution of phosphate and sulfate is a unique attribute of this system. Detection limits for F, HPO42−, Cl, SO42−, NO2, Br and NO3 (S/N=3, sample injection volume 100 μl) were 0.11, 0.12, 0.12, 0.18, 0.49, 0.49, 0.52 μM, respectively.  相似文献

In the present study a non-suppressed ion chromatography system with conductivity detection was tested in terms of sampling effects, the effects on the ion separation efficiency and analysis detection limits to find optimum conditions for the determination of chloride, nitrate, sulfate, sodium, ammonium, potassium, calcium and magnesium ions in polar ice core samples.  相似文献

The application of ion chromatography, conductometry and total carbon analysis to the study of desalination of 18th century tiles and mortars is described. Ion chromatography is shown to be a simple and adequate technique for the identification and quantitative analysis of ions which are extracted during desalination. Chloride, nitrate, sulphate, carbonate, sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium were always found in the immersion waters, and occasionally also nitrite and oxalate.  相似文献

Reaction of o-alkynylbenzothioamide with molecular iodine was investigated. Unique benzo[c]thiophen-1-aminium iodide was obtained when the tertiary thioamide was used as a reactant. The reaction proceeded efficiently in less polar solvent, whereas the corresponding product was also obtained in a polar solvent. Single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that the benzo[c]thiophen-1-aminium structure possesses a resonance structure in N–C–S bond. Its stabilization shows a clear difference in the result from the reaction of amide analogue with iodine to give no stable compound.  相似文献

Non-suppressed and suppressed ion chromatography in combination with atmospheric pressure ionization mass spectrometry are compared with special respect to sensitivity for the analysis of low-molecular-mass anions. Iodate, bromate, bromide, sulfate, thiosulfate and bromide could be separated by non-suppressed ion chromatography using a low-capacity anion-exchange column and ammonium citrate as mobile phase. Absolute detection limits between 0.4 and 0.7 ng could be achieved; employing a column requiring a flow-rate of 1 ml/min for optimum performance, splitting was necessary so that only 120 μl/min entered the interface of the mass spectrometer resulting in detection limits between 0.03 and 0.06 mg/l. The same stationary phase (packed into a narrow-bore column which allowed operation without splitting) was suitable for the separation of oxyhalides in the suppressed mode with detection limits of 0.5 μg/l (50 pg) with sodium carbonate as eluent. The method was applied to the analysis of drinking water for oxyhalides. The sample pretreatment for the removal of matrix anions (sulfate, chloride and hydrogencarbonate) is described.  相似文献

The chromatographic behaviour of nitrilotriacetatocomplexes of the rare earth elements (Sc, Y and lanthanides) on a reversed phase ODS column has been investigated in the presence of 1-octane-sulphonate. There is a great difference in selectivity for the ODS among the rare earth nitrilotriacetato-complexes. Concentration gradient elution with nitrilotriacetic acid (0.005-0.050M, pH 3.0) that contains 0.01M 1-octanesulphonate allows the rare earth elements to be separated from each other within 30 min at room temperature, except a Gd-Eu pair which is eluted together. Yttrium elutes at about 10 min between samarium and neodymium. Detection and quantitation of the rare earth elements can be achieved by post-column reaction with Chlorophosphonazo III in acid media at 700 nm.  相似文献

The performance of ion chromatography in the determination of anions and cations in natural mineral waters of different composition and different total mineralization was evaluated. Up to 12 ions of the 20 usually included in extended chemical analysis of natural waters were successfully determined by ion chromatography alone. At least 98.60% and up to 99.96% of total cation composition of mineral waters was determined by ion chromatography. Hydrogen carbonate predominated in anion composition of mineral waters and was determined titrimetrically. The percentage of anions determined by ion chromatography in the remaining anion composition of mineral waters was between 98.90% and 99.96%. The agreement between total concentrations of anions and cations in individual mineral waters determined predominantly by ion chromatography is very good and the performance of ion chromatography for the basic and for the extended chemical analysis of highly mineralized water samples is very high. Method development was assisted by previously developed algorithms and appropriate experimental conditions are also discussed.  相似文献

The techniques of ion chromatography and capillary electrophoresis are compared as analytical methods for the determination of inorganic anions and cations. Comparison is made in the areas of stage of development, separation efficiency, separation selectivity, analytical performance parameters, method development procedures, applications, strenghts and weaknesses, and future directions. It is shown that the two techniques are complementary rather than competitive, especially with regard to their separation selectivities and the type of applications to which they are most suited.  相似文献
