For a cardinal , we say that a subset B of a space X is C -compact in X if for every continuous function is a compact subset of . If B is a C-compact subset of a space X, then (B, X) denotes the degree of C -compactness of B in X. A space X is called -pseudocompact if X is C -compact into itself. For each cardinal , we give an example of an -pseudocompact space X such that X × X is not pseudocompact: this answers a question posed by T. Retta in Some cardinal generalizations of pseudocompactness Czechoslovak Math. J. 43 (1993), 385–390. The boundedness of the product of two bounded subsets is studied in some particular cases. A version of the classical Glicksberg's Theorem on the pseudocompactness of the product of two spaces is given in the context of boundedness. This theorem is applied to several particular cases.  相似文献

A result by Elton(6) states that an iterated function system
of i.i.d. random Lipschitz maps F 1,F 2,... on a locally compact, complete separable metric space converges weakly to its unique stationary distribution if the pertinent Liapunov exponent is a.s. negative and for some . Diaconis and Freedman(5) showed the convergence rate be geometric in the Prokhorov metric if for some p>0, where L 1 denotes the Lipschitz constant of F 1. The same and also polynomial rates have been recently obtained in Alsmeyer and Fuh(1) by different methods. In this article, necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the positive Harris recurrence of (M n ) n0 on some absorbing subset . If and the support of has nonempty interior, we further show that the same respective moment conditions ensuring the weak convergence rate results mentioned above now lead to polynomial, respectively geometric rate results for the convergence to in total variation or f-norm f , f(x)=1+d(x,x 0) for some (0,p]. The results are applied to various examples that have been discussed in the literature, including the Beta walk, multivariate ARMA models and matrix recursions.  相似文献

Let (Z n ) n 0 be a supercritical Galton–Watson process with finite re-production mean  and normalized limit W=lim n n Z n . Let further : [0,) [0,) be a convex differentiable function with (0)=(0)=0 and such that ( ) is convex with concave derivative for some n 0. By using convex function inequalities due to Topchii and Vatutin, and Burkholder, Davis and Gundy, we prove that 0 < E (W) < if, and only if, , where
We further show that functions (x)=x L(x) which are regularly varying of order 1 at are covered by this result if {2 n : n 0 } and under an additional condition also if =2 n for some n0. This was obtained in a slightly weaker form and analytically by Bingham and Doney. If > 1, then grows at the same order of magnitude as (x) so that and E (Z 1)< are equivalent. However, =1 implies and hence that is a strictly stronger condition than E (Z 1) < . If (x)=x log p x for some p > 0 it can be shown that grows like x log p+1 x, as x. For this special case the result is due to Athreya. As a by-product we also provide a new proof of the Kesten–Stigum result that E Z 1 log Z 1 < and EW > 0 are equivalent.  相似文献

Let be the set of all primes, the field of all algebraic numbers, and Z the set of square-free natural numbers. We consider partially ordered sets of interpretability types such as , and , where AD is a variety of -divisible Abelian groups with unique taking of the pth root p(x) for every p , is a variety of -modules over a normal field , contained in , and Gn is a variety of n-groupoids defined by a cyclic permutation (12 ...n). We prove that , and are distributive lattices, with and where ub and ubf are lattices (w.r.t. inclusion) of all subsets of the set and of finite subsets of , respectively.Deceased.__________Translated from Algebra i Logika, Vol. 44, No. 2, pp. 198–210, March–April, 2005.  相似文献

It is proved that for each random walk (S n ) n0 on d there exists a smallest measurable subgroup of d , called minimal subgroup of (S n ) n0, such that P(S n )=1 for all n1. can be defined as the set of all x d for which the difference of the time averages n –1 n k=1 P(S k ) and n –1 n k=1 P(S k +x) converges to 0 in total variation norm as n. The related subgroup * consisting of all x d for which lim n P(S n )–P(S n +x)=0 is also considered and shown to be the minimal subgroup of the symmetrization of (S n ) n0. In the final section we consider quasi-invariance and admissible shifts of probability measures on d . The main result shows that, up to regular linear transformations, the only subgroups of d admitting a quasi-invariant measure are those of the form 1×...× k × lk ×{0} dl , 0kld, with 1,..., k being countable subgroups of . The proof is based on a result recently proved by Kharazishvili(3) which states no uncountable proper subgroup of admits a quasi-invariant measure.  相似文献

In this paper the so-called Broyden's bounded-class of methods is considered. It contains as a subclass Broyden's restricted-class of methods, in which the updating matrices retain symmetry and positive definiteness. These iteration methods are used for solving unconstrained minimization problems of the following form: It is assumed that the step-size coefficient k = 1 in each iteration and the functionalf : R n R1 satisfies the standard assumptions, viz.f is twice continuously differentiable and the Hessian matrix is uniformly positive definite and bounded (there exist constantsm, M > 0 such that my2 y, for ally R n) and satisfies a Lipschitz-like condition at the optimal point , the gradient vanishes at Under these assumptions the local convergence of Broyden's methods is proved. Furthermore, the Q-superlinear convergence is shown.  相似文献

Let X be an abstract set and L a lattice of subsets of X. To each lattice regular measure µ, we associate two induced measures and on suitable lattices of the Wallman space IR(L) and another measure µ on the spaceIR(L). We will investigate the reflection of smoothness properties of p onto , and µ; and try to set some new criterion for repleteness and measure repleteness.  相似文献

Let * be the equilateral triangulation of the plane and let 1 * be the equilateral triangle formed by four triangles of *. We study the space of piecewise polynomial functions in C k (R 2) with support 1 *, having a sufficiently high degree n and which are invariant with respect to the group of symmetries of 1 *. Such splines are called 1 *-splines. We first compute the dimension of this space in function of n and k. Then, for any fixed k0, we prove the existence of 1 *-splines of class C k and minimal degree, but these splines are not unique. Finally, we describe an algorithm computing the Bernstein–Bézier coefficients of these splines.  相似文献

Real valued M-estimators in a statistical model 1 with observations are replaced by -valued M-estimators in a new model with observations where are regressors, is a structural parameter and a structural function of the new model. Sufficient conditions for the consistency of are derived, motivated by the sufficiency conditions for the simpler parent estimator The result is a general method of consistent estimation in a class of nonlinear (pseudolinear) statistical problems. If F has a natural exponential density exb( x ) then our pseudolinear model with u = (g o )–1 reduces to the well known generalized linear model, provided () = db()/d and g is the so-called link function of the generalized linear model. General results are illustrated for special pairs and leading to some classical M-estimators of mathematical statistics, as well as to a new class of generalized -quantile estimators.  相似文献

Let {W(s)} s 0 be a standard Wiener process. The supremum of the squared Euclidian norm Y (t)2, of the R2-valued process Y(t)=(1/t W(t), {12/t 3 int0 t s dW (s)– {3/t} W(t)), t [, 1], is the asymptotic, large sample distribution, of a test statistic for a change point detection problem, of appearance of linear trend. We determine the asymptotic behavior P {sup t [, 1] Y(t)2 > u as u , of this statistic, for a fixed (0,1), and for a moving = (u) 0 at a suitable rate as u . The statistical interest of our results lie in their use as approximate test levels.  相似文献

We consider Dyson's hierarchical model on a d-dimensional hierarchical lattice and define a renormalization group (RG) transformation for complex values of d as a map in the space of sequences of coupling constants determining the model Hamiltonian. We show that d=4 is a bifurcation value of this transformation for the RG transformation parameter equal to 1+2/d, and we construct a non-Gaussian RG-invariant Hamiltonian in terms of the (4–d)-expansion. We establish that the (–3/2)- and (4–d)-expansion coefficients for a non-Gaussian fixed point in the dimension d=3 have the same asymptotic representation as the size of the elementary cell tends to infinity, thus confirming that both the expansions describe the same nontrivial fixed point in the dimension three.  相似文献

A functorial filtration GL n =S–1L n S0L n S i L n E n of the general linear group GL n, n 3, is defined and it is shown for any algebra A, which is a direct limit of module finite algebras, that S–1 L n (A)/S0L n (A) is abelian, that S0L n (A) S1L n (A) is a descending central series, and that S i L n (A) = E n(A) whenever i the Bass-Serre dimension of A. In particular, the K-functors k 1 S i L n =S i L n /E n are nilpotent for all i 0 over algebras of finite Bass-Serre dimension. Furthermore, without dimension assumptions, the canonical homomorphism S i L n (A)/S i+1 L n (A)S i L n+ 1(A)/S i+1 L n + 1 (A) is injective whenever n i + 3, so that one has stability results without stability conditions, and if A is commutative then S0L n (A) agrees with the special linear group SL n (A), so that the functor S0L n generalizes the functor SL n to noncommutative rings. Applying the above to subgroups H of GL n (A), which are normalized by E n(A), one obtains that each is contained in a sandwich GL n (A, ) H E n(A, ) for a unique two-sided ideal of A and there is a descending S0L n (A)-central series GL n (A, ) S0L n (A, ) S1L n (A, ) S i L n (A, ) E n(A, ) such that S i L n (A, )=E n(A, ) whenever i Bass-Serre dimension of A.Dedicated to Alexander Grothendieck on his sixtieth birthday  相似文献
