Many combinatorial generating functions can be expressed as combinations of symmetric functions, or extracted as sub-series and specializations from such combinations. Gessel has outlined a large class of symmetric functions for which the resulting generating functions are D-finite. We extend Gessel's work by providing algorithms that compute differential equations, these generating functions satisfy in the case they are given as a scalar product of symmetric functions in Gessel's class. Examples of applications to k-regular graphs and Young tableaux with repeated entries are given. Asymptotic estimates are a natural application of our method, which we illustrate on the same model of Young tableaux. We also derive a seemingly new formula for the Kronecker product of the sum of Schur functions with itself.  相似文献

We introduce an intrinsic property for a projective variety as follows: there exists an embedding into some projective space such that the Gauss map is of rank zero, which we call (GMRZ) for short. It turns out that (GMRZ) imposes strong restrictions on rational curves on projective varieties: In fact, using (GMRZ), we show that, contrary to the characteristic zero case, the existence of free rational curves does not imply that of minimal free rational curves in positive characteristic case. We also focus attention on Segre varieties, Grassmann varieties, and hypersurfaces of low degree. In particular, we give a characterisation of Fermat cubic hypersurfaces in terms of (GMRZ), and show that a general hypersurface of low degree does not satisfy (GMRZ).  相似文献

Let be a smooth, affine variety of dimension n≥2 over the field R of real numbers. Let P be a projective A-module of such that its nth Chern class is zero. In this set-up, Bhatwadekar-Das-Mandal showed (amongst many other results) that P?AQ in the case that either n is odd or the topological space X(R) of real points of X does not have a compact, connected component. In this paper, we prove that similar results hold for smooth, affine varieties over an Archimedean real closed field .  相似文献

We prove that every globally F-regular variety is log Fano. In other words, if a prime characteristic variety X is globally F-regular, then it admits an effective Q-divisor Δ such that −KX−Δ is ample and (X,Δ) has controlled (Kawamata log terminal, in fact globally F-regular) singularities. A weak form of this result can be viewed as a prime characteristic analog of de Fernex and Hacon's new point of view on Kawamata log terminal singularities in the non-Q-Gorenstein case. We also prove a converse statement in characteristic zero: every log Fano variety has globally F-regular type. Our techniques apply also to F-split varieties, which we show to satisfy a “log Calabi-Yau” condition. We also prove a Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem for globally F-regular pairs.  相似文献

Let k be a field of characteristic zero and f(t),g(t) be polynomials in k[t]. For a plane curve parameterized by x=f(t),y=g(t), Abhyankar developed the notion of Taylor resultant (Mathematical Surveys and Monographs, Vol. 35, American Mathematical Society, Providence, RI, 1990) which enables one to find its singularities without knowing its defining polynomial. This concept was generalized as D-resultant by Yu and Van den Essen (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 125(3) (1997) 689), which works over an arbitrary field. In this paper, we extend this to a curve in affine n-space parameterized by x1=f1(t),…,xn=fn(t) over an arbitrary ground field k, where f1,…,fnk[t]. This approach compares to the usual approach of computing the ideal of the curve first. It provides an efficient algorithm of computing the singularities of such parametric curves using Gröbner bases. Computational examples worked out by symbolic computation packages are included.  相似文献

Let XP be a smooth projective toric variety of dimension n embedded in Pr using all of the lattice points of the polytope P. We compute the dimension and degree of the secant variety . We also give explicit formulas in dimensions 2 and 3 and obtain partial results for the projective varieties XA embedded using a set of lattice points APZn containing the vertices of P and their nearest neighbors.  相似文献

LetXP r be a non-degenerate variety and Γ(X) the closure inX of the set of all pointsP∈X such that the projection ofX fromP is not birational. Here we study the irreducible components of Γ(X), using proofs and ideas contained in a paper by Calabri and Ciliberto concerning the outer non birational projections. We show that the secant varieties of rank three compact Hermitian symmetric spaces in their minimal homogeneous embeddings are normal, with rational singularities. We show that their ideals are generated in degree three—with one exception, the secant variety of the 21-dimensional spinor variety in P63 where we show that the ideal is generated in degree four. We also discuss the coordinate rings of secant varieties of compact Hermitian symmetric spaces.  相似文献

In this note we apply the techniques of the toric systems introduced by Hille–Perling to several problems on smooth projective surfaces: We showed that the existence of full exceptional collection of line bundles implies the rationality for small Picard rank surfaces; we proved equivalences of several notions of cyclic strong exceptional collection of line bundles; we also proposed a partial solution to a conjecture on exceptional sheaves on weak del Pezzo surfaces.  相似文献

Let X be a smooth projective surface defined over , and let L be a line bundle over X such that for every complete curve Y contained in X. A question of Keel asks whether L is ample. If X is a P1-bundle over a curve, we prove that this question has an affirmative answer.  相似文献

We investigate the similarities and differences between the module of symmetric tensors and the module of divided powers . There is a canonical map which is an isomorphism in many important cases. We give examples showing that this map need neither be surjective nor injective in general. These examples also show that the functor does not in general commute with base change.  相似文献

In this paper, we will give some geometric results using generic initial ideals for the degree reverse lex order. The main goal of the paper is to improve on results of Bigatti, Geramita and Migliore concerning geometric consequences of maximal growth of the Hilbert function of the Artinian reduction of a set of points. When the points have the Uniform Position Property, the consequences are even more striking. Here we weaken the growth condition, assuming only that the values of the Hilbert function of the Artinian reduction are equal in two consecutive degrees, and that the first of these degrees is greater than the second reduction number of the points. We continue to get nice geometric consequences even from this weaker assumption. However, we have surprising examples to show that imposing the Uniform Position Property on the points does not give the striking consequences that one might expect. This leads to a better understanding of the Hilbert function, and the ideal itself, of a set of points with the Uniform Position Property, which is an important open question. In the last section we describe the role played by the Weak Lefschetz Property (WLP) in this theory, and we show that the general hyperplane section of a smooth curve may not have the WLP.  相似文献

We give a uniruledness criterion on degenerate fibers in a family of varieties whose general fiber has a numerically trivial canonical divisor. The criterion is related with the so-called non-nef locus of the canonical divisor of the total space.   相似文献

We construct new examples of cubic surfaces, for which the Hasse principle fails. Thereby we show that, over every number field, the counterexamples to the Hasse principle are Zariski dense in the moduli scheme of non-singular cubic surfaces.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to give a general algorithm to compute, via computer-algebra systems, an explicit set of generators of the ideals of the projective embeddings of ruled surfaces, i.e. projectivizations of rank two vector bundles over curves, such that the fibers are embedded as smooth rational curves. There are two different applications of our algorithm. Firstly, given a very ample linear system on an abstract ruled surface, our algorithm allows computing the ideal of the embedded surface, all the syzygies, and all the algebraic invariants which are computable from its ideal as, for instance, the k-regularity. Secondly, it is possible to prove the existence of new embeddings of ruled surfaces. The method can be implemented over any computer-algebra system able to deal with commutative algebra and Gröbner-basis computations. An implementation of our algorithms for the computer-algebra system Macaulay2 (cf. [Daniel R. Grayson, Michael E. Stillman, Macaulay 2, a software system for research in algebraic geometry, 1993. Available at http://www.math.uiuc.edu/Macaulay2/]) and explicit examples are enclosed.  相似文献
