Let G denote a semisimple group, a discrete subgroup, B=G/P the Poisson boundary. Regarding invariants of discrete subgroups we prove, in particular, the following:(1) For any -quasi-invariant measure on B, and any probablity measure on , the norm of the operator () on L 2(B,) is equal to (), where is the unitary representation in L 2(X,), and is the regular representation of .(2) In particular this estimate holds when is Lebesgue measure on B, a Patterson–Sullivan measure, or a -stationary measure, and implies explicit lower bounds for the displacement and Margulis number of (w.r.t. a finite generating set), the dimension of the conformal density, the -entropy of the measure, and Lyapunov exponents of .(3) In particular, when G=PSL2() and is free, the new lower bound of the displacement is somewhat smaller than the Culler–Shalen bound (which requires an additional assumption) and is greater than the standard ball-packing bound.We also prove that ()=G() for any amenable action of G and L 1(G), and conversely, give a spectral criterion for amenability of an action of G under certain natural dynamical conditions. In addition, we establish a uniform lower bound for the -entropy of any measure quasi-invariant under the action of a group with property T, and use this fact to construct an interesting class of actions of such groups, related to 'virtual' maximal parabolic subgroups. Most of the results hold in fact in greater generality, and apply for instance when G is any semi-simple algebraic group, or when is any word-hyperbolic group, acting on their Poisson boundary, for example.  相似文献

Let be a nonorientable m-plane bundle over a CW complex X of dimension m or less. Given a 2-plane bundle over X, we wish to know whether can be embedded as a sub-bundle of . The bundle need not be orientable. When is even-dimensional there is the added complication of twisted coefficients. In that case, we use Postnikov decomposition of certain nonsimple fibrations in order to describe the obstructions for the embedding problem. Emery Thomas [11] and [12] treated this problem for and both orientable. The results found here are applied to the tangent bundle of a closed, connected, nonorientable smooth manifold, as a special case.The writing of this paper was partially supported by CNPq grant  相似文献

A cyclic cocycle is constructed for the Dirac operator on a compact spin manifold with boundary with the -invariant cochain introduced as the boundary correction term. This cocycle is seen to satisfy certain growth condition weaker than being entire and its pairing with the Chern characters of idempotents as well as the relevant index formulae are studied. The -cochain is a generalization of the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer -invariant and it carries information on the APS -invariants for Dirac operators twisted by bundles. It is also shown that one obtains the transgressed Chern character, defined by Connes and Moscovici, by applying the boundary operatorB in the cyclic bicomplex to the higher components of the -cochain.  相似文献

Summary We consider a system of identical interacting particles moving on the lattice d . In the present note a theorem about strong suitability of the space of algebraic polynomials of degree n in C[a,b] (Theorem A in [1]) is generalized to the space of spline polynomials [a, b ]n, k (n2, 0) in C[a, b]. Summary The present paper continues the work by Davidson, Krickeberg, Papangelou, and the author on proving, under weakest possible assumptions, that a stationary random measure or a simple point process on the space of k-flats in R d is a.s. invariant or a Cox process respectively. The problems for and are related by the fact that is Cox whenever the Papangelou conditional intensity measure of (a thinning of) is a.s. invariant. In particular, is shown to be a.s. invariant, whenever it is absolutely continuous with respect to some fixed measure and has no (so called) outer degeneracies. When k=d–22, no absolute continuity is needed, provided that the first moments exist and that has no inner degeneracies either. Summary For a Standard process admitting a dual process and satisfying Hypothesis (B) of Kunita and Watanabe, we investigate the limit behavior of excessive functions. First we analyse two concepts of fine topology on the Martin compactification of the state space, which are suggested by classical potential theory. We then prove several versions of the Fatou-Doob theorem: h-excessive functions have a limit in h -almost every Martin boundary point — a) almost surely along -paths, b) with respect to the fine topology, c) with respect to the Martin topology outside of a set which is thin in .

The paper presents conditions for consistency of (asymptotic) conditional maximum likelihood estimators for . An application to the Rasch-model (a stochastic model for psychological tests) yields a condition on the sequence of nuisance parameters which is sufficient for strong consistency of conditional maximum likelihood estimators, and necessary for the existence of any weakly consistent estimator-sequence.  相似文献

Suppose that U is the resolvent of a Borel right process on a Lusin space X. If is a U-excessive measure on X then we show by analytical methods that for every U-excessive measure with the Radon–Nikodym derivative d/d possesses a finely continuous version. (Fitzsimmons and Fitzsimmons and Getoor gave a probabilistic approach for this result.) We extend essentially a technique initiated by Mokobodzki and deepened by Feyel. The result allows us to establish a Revuz type formula involving the fine versions, and to study the Revuz correspondence between the -finite measures charging no set that is both -polar and -negligible (U being the potential component of ) and the strongly supermedian kernels on X. This is an analytic version of a result of Azéma, Fitzsimmons and Dellacherie, Maisonneuve and Meyer, in terms of additive functionals or homogeneous random measures. Finally we give an application to the context of the semi-Dirichlet forms, covering a recent result of Fitzsimmons.  相似文献
