A planar array of identical charges at vanishing temperature forms a Wigner crystal with hexagonal symmetry. We take off one (reference) charge in a perpendicular direction, hold it fixed, and search for the ground state of the whole system. The planar projection of the reference charge should then evolve from a sixfold coordination (centre of a hexagon) for small distances to a threefold arrangement (centre of a triangle), at large distances d from the plane. The aim of this paper is to describe the corresponding non-trivial lattice transformation. For that purpose, two numerical methods (direct energy minimisation and Monte Carlo simulations), together with an analytical treatment, are presented. Our results indicate that the d = 0 and d → ∞ limiting cases extend for finite values of d from the respective starting points into two sequences of stable states, with intersecting energies at some value dt; beyond this value the branches continue as metastable states.  相似文献

We study properties of Wigner crystal in snaked nanochannels and show that they are characterized by a conducting sliding phase at low charge densities and an insulating pinned phase emerging above a certain critical charge density. We trace parallels between this model problem and the Little suggestion for electron transport in organic molecules. We also show that in the presence of periodic potential inside the snaked channel the sliding phase exists only inside a certain window of electron densities that has similarities with a pressure dependence of conductivity in organic conductors. Our studies show emergence of dynamical glassy phase in a purely periodic potential in the absence of any disorder that can explain enormously slow variations of resistivity in organic conductors. Finally we discuss the KAM concept of superfluidity induced by repulsive Coulomb interaction between electrons. We argue that the transition from the sliding KAM phase to the pinned Aubry phase corresponds to the superfluid-insulator transition.  相似文献

The charge density and pair correlation function of three interacting electrons confined within a two-dimensional disc-like hard-wall quantum dot are calculated by full numerical diagonalization of the Hamiltonian. The formation of a Wigner molecule in the form of equilateral triangular configuration for electrons is observed as the size of the dot is increased.  相似文献

Three kinds of band-pass filters (BPFs), termed a TE BPF, a TM BPF and a BPF at oblique incidence, are designed by crossing the band edges of two different one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystals (PCs). The TE BPF, fulfilling the function of high reflectivity for p-polarization and high transmittance in a narrow pass-band for s-polarization, is constructed by two subPCs, one of which is obtained by decreasing the lattice constant of the other one while the other parameters keep the same. The TM BPF also comprises two subPCs, but the materials of one subPC are quite different with those of the other one. Similarly, the BPF at oblique incidence, from which both polarization waves can transmit in a narrow pass-band at oblique incidence, is composed of two different subPCs. Note that, the distribution of the wave impedance of material in each BPF should be periodic to prevent unexpected defect modes. The new filters not only provide narrow pass-bands and wide non-transmission bands, but also have simple structures. This is a result of the fact that the wave impedance ratio between composites is enlarged by introducing magnetic materials. The new designs have potential applications in optical filters and optical integrated circuits.  相似文献

A fundamental dual-channel wavelength division de-multiplexer (WDDM) based on directional coupling of one-dimensional photonic crystal waveguides is presented, and its transmission characteristics of the WDDM are investigated by using finite-difference time-domain method. Calculated results indicate that for this WDDM, without any structural optimization, a high transmittance of more than 95% is observed at output ports. Combining the fundamental dual-channel WDDM with flexible bends of one-dimensional photonic crystal waveguides, we construct a simple and compact four-channel WDDM. Those WDDMs are expected to be applied to highly dense photonic integrated circuits.  相似文献

The surface diffusion of interacting k-mers is studied both through analytical and Monte Carlo simulation methods in one-dimensional systems. Adsorption isotherms, jump diffusion coefficients and collective diffusion coefficients are obtained for attractive and repulsive k-mers, showing a variety of behaviors as a function of the size of particles, k. The following main results are found: (a) diffusion coefficients increase with k for non-interacting particles; (b) for fixed k, diffusion coefficients increase as the interaction energy increases from negative (attractive) to positive (repulsive) values; (c) for attractive interactions diffusion coefficients increase with k in the whole range of coverage; (d) for repulsive interactions diffusion coefficients decrease with k up to moderately high coverage and increase with k at high coverage. Results are rationalized in terms of the behavior of the vacancy probability distribution.  相似文献

In previous literature, the realization of topological interface state in one-dimensional periodic system is strongly relied on the tedious parameter adjustment to search for the Dirac cone. In this paper, based on a strategy of zone folding, multiple topological interface modes for the shear horizontal guided waves in one dimensional phononic crystal plate are investigated by using finite element method and eigenmode matching theory, in which the Dirac points are formed by simply making the unit cell double. Significantly, by simply contracting or expanding the stubs can bring the topological phase transition. Furthermore, the topological phase transition is further achieved by varying the height of the stubs. The proposed designs will be more convenient to be applied in real engineering.  相似文献

The value of the electron transfer, ρ, from donors (Rb, NMP) to acceptors (TCNQ) is studied by calculating the electrostatic energy of the Rb-TCNQ and NMP-TCNQ crystals as a function of ρ and using the spin susceptibility data for the NMS-TCNQ crystal. It is shown that for the Rb-TCNQ crystal ρ = 1 and for the NMP-TCNQ crystal ρ = 18. The Wigner crystal model for highly conductive TCNQ salts is discussed.  相似文献

Although the Raman effect was discovered nearly 80 years ago, it is only recently that the special characteristics of Raman scattering for one-dimensional systems have been seriously considered. This review focuses on the special interest of the Raman effect for one-dimensional systems that is of particular relevance to carbon nanostructures. Two examples of Raman scattering in one-dimensional systems are given. The first illustrates the use of Raman spectroscopy to reveal the remarkable structure and properties of carbon nanotubes arising from their one-dimensionality. Some of the recent advances in using Raman spectroscopy to study doping and intercalation to modify nanotube properties are reviewed, in the context of a one-dimensional system. The second example is the Raman spectra of a linear chain of carbon atoms and the special properties of this interesting system. New approaches toward applying Raman spectroscopy to carbon nanostructures are also emphasized.  相似文献

The equilibrium and transport properties of interacting ad-particles on bivariate heterogeneous chains are studied by combining analytical and simulation approaches. Heterogeneity is introduced in the way of patches of shallow and deep adsorbing sites distributed in a deterministic alternating way. Adsorption isotherms and mean-square fluctuations of the surface coverage, as well as the jump and collective diffusion coefficients, are calculated for different values of lateral interactions between ad-particles and substrate heterogeneity. In addition, different elementary jump mechanisms are introduced and their influence in the coverage dependence of the collective diffusion coefficient is investigated.  相似文献

We report on low-temperature thermopower measurements of interacting GaAs bilayer hole systems in the limit of no interlayer tunneling. These systems exhibit a reentrant insulating phase near the many-body quantum Hall state (QHS) at total filling factor ν=1, when both layers have the same density. The diffusion thermopower is expected to diverge as T-1 in the presence of an energy gap (Wigner crystal) or to vanish in the case of a disordered induced mobility gap. Our results show that, as the temperature is decreased, the diffusion thermopower exhibits a T-1 dependence in the insulating phase around ν=1. This behavior clearly indicates the opening of an energy gap at low temperature, in agreement with the formation of a pinned Wigner solid. Finally, we report on the T-dependence of the thermopower at ν=1.  相似文献

Based on the matrix method, a theory of propagation of TE- and TH-polarized Bessel light beams (BLBs) in a one-dimensional photonic crystal (1DPC) is developed. The transmission through a 1DPC (with and without a defect impurity) of a quasi-circularly-polarized incident Bessel beam generated by an axicon from a circularly-polarized Gaussian beam has been calculated and analyzed. Also a solution of the problem on the transmission of BLBs through crystalline plate (layer of a uniaxial crystal with the orientation of the optical axis orthogonally to its interfaces) and reflection from it has been presented.Based on this, a new method of formation of TE- and TH-polarized Bessel light beams has been proposed. It has been shown that it is possible to control this process by changing the cone angle of an incident Bessel light beam. The effect of generation of a coherent superposition of two Bessel beams with different cone angles in the case of a high birefringence of defect layer has been predicted theoretically.  相似文献

We consider the scattering of a quantum particle by two independent, successive parity-invariant point interactions in one dimension. The parameter space for the two point interactions is given by the direct product of two tori, which is described by four parameters. By investigating the effects of the two point interactions on the transmission probability of plane wave, we obtain the conditions for the parameter space under which perfect resonant transmission occur. The resonance conditions are found to be described by symmetric and anti-symmetric relations between the parameters.  相似文献
