By using the density matrix renormalization group technique, the quantum phase transitions in the frustrated Majumdar-Ghosh model are investigated. The behaviors of the conventional order parameter and the quantum entanglement entropy are analyzed in detail. The order parameter is found to peak at J2∼0.58, but not at the Majumdar-Ghosh point (J2=0.5). Although, the quantum entanglements calculated with different subsystems display dissimilarly, the extremes of their first derivatives approach to the same critical point. By finite size scaling, this quantum critical point JC2 converges to around 0.301 in the thermodynamic limit, which is consistent with those predicted previously by some authors (Tonegawa and Harada, 1987 [6]; Kuboki and Fukuyama, 1987 [7]; Chitra et al., 1995 [9]). Across the JC2, the system undergoes a quantum phase transition from a gapless spin-fluid phase to a gapped dimerized phase.  相似文献

Using the density matrix renormalization group technique, the quantum phase transitions in a frustrated spin-1/2 ladder with ferromagnetic interchain exchanges are investigated. According to our results, the two-rung entanglement is capable of describing the quantum phase transitions. Furthermore, its first order derivative is shown to be more sensitive than order parameters for determining phase boundary. Therefore, the intermediate columnar dimerized phase region is determined definitely.  相似文献

We present a systematic investigation on the ground state of an asymmetric two-leg spin ladder (where exchange couplings of the legs are unequal) with ferromagnetic (FM) nearest-neighbor interaction and diagonal anti-ferromagnetic frustration using the density matrix renormalization group method. When the ladder is strongly asymmetric with moderate frustration, a magnetic canted state is observed between an FM state and a singlet dimerized state. The phase boundaries are dependent on the asymmetric strength. On the other hand, when the asymmetric strength is intermediate, a so-called spin-stripe state (spins align parallel on the same legs, but antiparallel on rungs) is discovered, and the system experiences a first-order phase transition from the FM state to the spin-stripe state upon increasing frustration. Numerical evidence is presented for interpretation of the phase diagram in terms of frustration and the asymmetric strength.  相似文献

We prove the existence of spontaneous magnetization at sufficiently low temperature, and hence of a phase transition, in a variety of quantum spin systems in three or more dimensions. Based on a recently developed algorithm for the exploration of ground states in bond-diluted lattice spin glasses, we determine the scaling of defect energies with system size for Ising spin glasses at the bond percolation threshold pc. The results can be related by well-known scaling relations to the shape of the transition temperature Tg∼(p-pc)φ between the paramagnetic and glassy regime for ppc. The numerical results in three dimensions are consistent with rather old experimental data for (FexNi1-x)75P16B6A3, suggesting that new experimental work may be able to put those numerical predictions to the test.  相似文献

We have found an exact phase diagram of the Potts model with competing nearest neighbor and next nearest neighbor interactions on the Bethe lattice of order two. The diagram consists of five phases: ferromagnetic, paramagnetic, modulated, antiphase and paramodulated, all meeting at the multicritical point . We report on a new phase which we denote as paramodulated, found at low temperatures and characterized by zero average magnetization lying inside the modulated phase. Such a phase, inherent in the Potts model has no analogues in the Ising setting.  相似文献

采用双时格林函数方法研究了自旋为1的双层平方晶格阻挫模型的相变行为.详细探讨了层间耦合相互作用Jc和单离子各向异性参数D对奈尔态(AF1)和共线态(AF2)之间相转换的影响.结果显示:只要参数Jc和D不同时为零,奈尔态和共线态在J2=J1/2(这里J1和J2分别描述的是系统自旋间最近邻和次近邻交换作用)时的相变温度相等,两个态共存.在低于相变点的温度范围内,AF1-AF2态之间可以发生相转换,其相变类型为一阶相变.当J2≠J1/2时,尽管AF1-AF2态有不同相变温度,但它们也可以共存.如果AF1(AF2)态的相变温度大,在低温,AF1(AF2)态更稳定;在高温,AF2(AF1)态更稳定;在中间温度范围内,AF1-AF2态之间也可以发生一阶相转换.  相似文献

We have used Ramakrishnan–Yussouff (RY) density functional theory (DFT) to explore the topology of the phase diagram of two-component charge stabilised colloidal suspensions confined to a two-dimensional plane. The particles of the system interact via purely repulsive soft core Yukawa potential. Pair correlation functions (PCFs) used as input informations in DFT were calculated by solving both the hypernetted chain (HNC) and Percus–Yevick (PY) integral equation theories. To test the relative performance of the HNC and PY theories in the context of phase transitions, we have also studied the corresponding one-component systems. We found that RY DFT with HNC PCFs does not stabilise solid in both the one- and two-component cases, whereas the PY theory does. By considering the freezing into the substitutionally disordered triangular solid, we found that the temperature-composition phase diagrams of the binary mixture are narrow spindles whose thickness depends on the symmetry of the mixture components and the value of the screening constant of the Yukawa potential. Although the phase diagram obtained by RY DFT with structural inputs calculated by the PY theory is found to be shifted to higher temperature region in the temperature-composition plane, however, it captures qualitatively all the essential features of the phase diagram. Our results are in principle verifiable through computer simulations and experiments.  相似文献

Within the framework of phase fluctuation picture for the pseudogap state of cuprate superconductors, we study the effects of both spatial inhomogeneity of coupling strength and thermal phase fluctuations on the superconducting transition temperature. Such a Berezinsky-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition is characterized by a two-dimensional (2D) classical XY model, in which the bond coupling is assumed to be roughly proportional to the superconducting bond order parameter. In recent STM experiments with lattice-tracking spectroscopy technique, a Gaussian-like spatially distributed pairing strength is observed. Our Monte Carlo simulations using Wolff cluster update on such 2D classical XY model, in which the bond coupling obeys a similar spatial Gaussian distribution, indicate that the enhancement of the variance of Gaussian distribution may suppress the BKT transition temperature. In addition, we calculate the related physical quantities, including the spin stiffness, free energy, specific heat, magnetization and magnetic susceptibility, by changing the inhomogeneity variance.  相似文献

Starting from the hypothesis of a second order transition we have studied modifications of the original Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a stacked triangular lattice (STA-model) by the Monte Carlo technique. The change is a local constraint restricting the spins at the corners of selected triangles to add up to zero without stopping them from moving freely (STAR-model). We have studied also the closely related dihedral and trihedral models which can be classified as Stiefel models. We have found indications of a first order transition for all three modified models instead of a universal critical behavior. This is in accordance with the renormalization group investigations but disagrees with the Monte Carlo simulations of the original STA-model favoring a new universality class. For the corresponding x-y antiferromagnet studied before, the second order nature of the transition could also not be confirmed. Received 17 May 1999 and Received in final form 30 July 1999  相似文献

Low temperature Monte Carlo results are used as an indicator of the size of the repeating unit. An energy minimization is then carried out for a number of configurations. Using the Lanczos method we determine the phase diagram of the 2-leg AF-Heisenberg ladder with alternating dimerization. It consists of a resonating valence bond phase and a dimer phase separated by a critical line. Our results are in good agreement with previous conjectures obtained with the nonlinear sigma model.  相似文献

Phase diagrams of the Heusler Ni–Mn–X (X=In, Sn, Sb) alloys with exchange inversion are investigated. It is shown that a few different types of the phase diagrams depending on the signs of phenomenological parameters of the Ginzburg–Landau functional are obtained. In the diagrams there are thermodynamic paths, which can explain the experimentally observed sequences of the phase transitions in Ni–Mn–X alloys.  相似文献

One-dimensional spin 1 systems may have a rich phase diagram including Haldane gap and dimerized phases if the usually very small biquadratic exchange becomes significant. We show that this unlikely condition may be fulfilled in electron systems with quasi-degenerate orbitals. This mechanism may have been experimentally realized in the spin 1 chain LiVGe2O6. The ground-state magnetic phase diagram of a spin S=1/2 two-leg ladder with alternating rung exchange J(n)=J[1 + (-1)n δ] is studied using the analytical and numerical approaches. In the limit where the rung exchange is dominant, we have mapped the model onto the effective quantum sine-Gordon model with topological term and identified two quantum phase transitions at magnetization equal to the half of saturation value from a gapped to the gapless regime. These quantum transitions belong to the universality class of the commensurate-incommensurate phase transition. We have also shown that the magnetization curve of the system exhibits a plateau at magnetization equal to the half of the saturation value. We also present a detailed numerical analysis of the low energy excitation spectrum and the ground state magnetic phase diagram of the ladder with rung-exchange alternation using Lanczos method of numerical diagonalizations for ladders with number of sites up to N = 28. We have calculated numerically the magnetic field dependence of the low-energy excitation spectrum, magnetization and the on-rung spin-spin correlation function. We have also calculated the width of the magnetization plateau and show that it scales as δν, where critical exponent varies from ν = 0.87±0.01 in the case of a ladder with isotropic antiferromagnetic legs to ν = 1.82±0.01 in the case of ladder with ferromagnetic legs. Obtained numerical results are in an complete agreement with estimations made within the continuum-limit approach.  相似文献

In this paper, phase transitions are investigated in speed gradient model with an on-ramp. Phase diagrams of traffic flow composed of manually driven vehicles and adaptive cruise control (ACC) vehicles are studied, respectively. The traffic flow composed of ACC vehicles is modeled by enhancing propagation speed of small disturbance. The phase diagram of traffic flow composed of manually driven vehicles is similar to that in previous works, in which such states as pinned localized cluster (PLC), moving localized cluster (MLC), triggered stop-and-go traffic (TSG), oscillatory congested traffic (OCT), and homogeneous congested traffic (HCT) are reproduced. In the phase diagram of traffic flow composed of ACC vehicles, traffic stability is enhanced and such states as PLC, MLC, and TSG disappear. Furthermore, some interesting phenomena, such as stationary OCT upstream of on-ramp and appearance of second OCT in HCT, are identified.  相似文献

The axial next-nearest-neighbour Ising (ANNNI) model of finite thickness is studied. Using mean-field theory, Monte Carlo simulations, and low-temperature analyses, phase diagrams are determined, with a distinct phase diagram for each film thickness. The robustness of the phase diagrams against varying the couplings in the surface layers is analysed. The mean first passage time (MFPT) as dwell time in high spin metastable state of spin-crossover solids is investigated both analytically and numerically.
