In this paper we present detailed Euler–Euler Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of dispersed bubbly flow in a rectangular bubble column. The motivation of this study is to investigate the potential of this approach for the prediction of bubbly flows, in terms of mean quantities. The physical models describing the momentum exchange between the phases including drag, lift and wall force were chosen according to previous experiences of the authors. Experimental data, Euler–Lagrange LES and unsteady Euler–Euler Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes results are used for comparison. It is found that the present model combination provides good agreement with experimental data for the mean flow and liquid velocity fluctuations. The energy spectrum obtained from the resolved velocity of the Euler–Euler LES is presented as well.  相似文献

A volume-filtered Euler–Lagrange large eddy simulation methodology is used to predict the physics of turbulent liquid–solid slurry flow through a horizontal periodic pipe. A dynamic Smagorinsky model based on Lagrangian averaging is employed to account for the sub-filter scale effects in the liquid phase. A fully conservative immersed boundary method is used to account for the pipe geometry on a uniform cartesian grid. The liquid and solid phases are coupled through volume fraction and momentum exchange terms. Particle–particle and particle–wall collisions are modeled using a soft-sphere approach. Three simulations are performed by varying the superficial liquid velocity to be consistent with the experimental data by Dahl et al. (2003). Depending on the liquid flow rate, a particle bed can form and develop different patterns, which are discussed in light of regime diagrams proposed in the literature. The fluctuation in the height of the liquid-bed interface is characterized to understand the space and time evolution of these patterns. Statistics of engineering interest such as mean velocity, mean concentration, and mean streamwise pressure gradient driving the flow are extracted from the numerical simulations and presented. Sand hold-up calculated from the simulation results suggest that this computational strategy is capable of predicting critical deposition velocity.  相似文献

Experimental results concerning the stability of Couette flow of ferrofluids under magnetic field influence are presented. The fluid cell of the Taylor–Couette system is subject to a homogeneous axial magnetic field and the axial flow profiles are measured by ultrasound Doppler velocimetry. It has been found that an axial magnetic field stabilizes the Couette flow. This effect decreases with a rotating outer cylinder. Moreover, it could be observed that lower axial wave numbers are more stable at a higher axial magnetic field strength. Since the used ferrofluid shows a negligible particle–particle interaction, the observed effects are considered to be solely based on the hindrance of free particle rotation.  相似文献

Creep studies of a duplex Fe–Ni–Al intermetallic alloy, in two microstructural states, have been carried out at temperatures between 725 and 800 °C (about 0.6 Tm). In the as-cast state, the alloy contains a large volume fraction of nanoprecipitates (50–100 nm) which confer a very high creep strength with a stress exponent of 3 and an activation energy of 280 kJ/mol. The different microstructure obtained in the second state of the alloy, obtained after annealing at 1000 °C for 24 h, leads to a much lower creep strength with a higher stress exponent as well as a large value of the apparent activation energy. While volume diffusion appears to control creep in the as-cast state, both thermal and athermal processes seem to contribute to the different creep rate of material in the annealed state. The latter also exhibits a much larger ductility (12%) relative to that observed in the as-cast material (3%), due to the presence of large numbers of interfaces between the two phases present where strain incompatibilities can be accommodated.  相似文献

An improved lattice Boltzmann (LB) model with a new scheme for the interparticle interaction force term is proposed in this paper. Based on the improved LB model, the equation-free method is implemented for simulating liquid–vapour phase change and multiphase flows. The details of phase separation are presented by numerical simulation results in terms of coexistence curves and spurious currents. Compared with existing models, the proposed model can give more accurate results in a wider temperature range with the spurious currents reduced and less time consumed. Characteristics of phase separation can be quickly and accurately reflected by the proposed method. Then, the contact angle of the solid surface is numerically investigated based on the proposed model. The proposed model is valid for steady flow with near zero velocity; unsteady cases will be investigated in further studies. This work will be helpful for our long-term aim of multi-scale modelling of convective boiling.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of gas–liquid flows experimentally and computationally in a rectangular bubble column where the gas source is introduced at the corner. The flow in this reactor is complex and inherently unsteady in nature. The two-dimensional liquid phase velocity field is calculated by an Eulerian approach solving the unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes equations. The conservation equations are closed using a two parameter turbulence model. The two-way coupling was accounted for by adding source terms in the conservation equations of the continuous phase to take into account the interaction with the dispersed phase. Bubble tracking is achieved through a Lagrangian approach. Here the equations of motion are solved taking into account the drag, pressure, buoyancy and gravity forces. The time-averaged flows along with the variables which characterize turbulence are analyzed for a wide range of gas flow-rates using Euler–Lagrangian simulations. These simulation predictions are validated with Euler–Eulerian simulations where the gas-phase distribution is captured as a void fraction and PIV experiments. The motion of bubbles induces turbulence in the flow. The applicability of two parameter models for turbulence like the standard kε model on time-averaged flow properties is addressed. From the results of the time averaged velocity field, turbulence intensity, turbulent viscosity and gas hold-up profiles, it is concluded that the Euler–Lagrangian model is applicable at lower gas flow-rates. The Euler–Eulerian approach was found to be valid at lower as well as higher gas flow-rates.  相似文献

A numerical method for simulating gas–liquid–solid three-phase flows based on the moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) approach was developed in this study. Computational instability often occurs in multiphase flow simulations if the deformations of the free surfaces between different phases are large, among other reasons. To avoid this instability, this paper proposes an improved coupling procedure between different phases in which the physical quantities of particles in different phases are calculated independently. We performed numerical tests on two illustrative problems: a dam-break problem and a solid-sphere impingement problem. The former problem is a gas–liquid two-phase problem, and the latter is a gas–liquid–solid three-phase problem. The computational results agree reasonably well with the experimental results. Thus, we confirmed that the proposed MPS method reproduces the interaction between different phases without inducing numerical instability.  相似文献

This paper presents a computational study of the two-dimensional particle-laden flow developments of bronze particle clouds in the accelerated flow behind a moving normal shock. Particle clouds with a particle volume concentration of 4% are arranged initially in a rectangular, triangular and circular shape. Simulations are performed with a recently developed high-order resolution Eulerian–Lagrangian method that approximates the Euler equations governing the gas dynamics with the improved high order weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO-Z) scheme, while individual particles are traced in the Lagrangian frame using high-order time integration schemes. Reflected shocks form ahead of all the cloud shapes. The detached shock in front of the triangular cloud is weakest. At later times, the wake behind the cloud becomes unstable, and a two-dimensional vortex-dominated wake forms. Separated shear layers at the edges of the clouds pull particles initially out of the clouds that are consequently transported along the shear layers. Since flows separated trivially at sharp corners, particles are mostly transported out of the cloud into the flow at the sharp front corner of the rectangular cloud and at the trailing corner of the triangular cloud. Particles are transported smoothly out of the circular cloud, since it lacks sharp corners. At late times, the accelerated flow behind the running shock disperses the particles in cross-stream direction the most for the circular cloud, followed by the rectangular cloud and the triangular cloud.  相似文献

Results steming from the linear stability of time-periodic flows in a Taylor–Couette geometry with cylinders oscillating in phase or out-of-phase are presented. Our analysis takes into account the gap size effects and investigates the influence of a superimposed mean angular rotation of the whole system. In case of no mean rotation, the finite gap geometry is found to affect the shape of the stability diagrams (critical Taylor number versus the frequency parameter) which consist of two distinct branches as opposed to being continuous in the narrow gap approximation. In particular, in the out-of-phase configuration a new branch for low frequencies was found, thus enabling better agreement with available experimental results. When cylinders are co-rotating and subject to rotation effects, our calculations provide the evolution of the critical Taylor number versus the rotation number for two values of the frequency. The stability curves are found to be in qualitative agreement with available experimental data revealing a maximum of instability for a rotation number of about 0.3.In the high rotation regime, enhancement of the critical Taylor number is investigated through an asymptotic analysis and the value of the rotation number at which restabilization occurs is found to depend on the frequency parameter.A restabilization of the flow also occurs when the rotation number and the gap size are of the same order, a phenomenon already pointed out in the case of steady flows and attributed to the near cancellation of Coriolis and centrifugal effects. Our investigation proves that the same mechanism still holds for time-periodic flows.  相似文献

A computational thermo-metallographic and thermoelastoplastic model for the analysis of the quenching process is developed and validated. The diffusive transfor-mations are modeled according to the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov model and the Scheil’s additivity rule. Two different models are investigated for the non-diffusive transformation—the Koistinen–Marburger model and the Yu model. A large displacement formulation is assumed for the deformation analysis, modeling the plastic behavior of the material according to the Prandtl–Reuss model. Two different bilinear hardening models—the isotropic and the kinematic hardening model—are used and compared. The model allows to evaluate the transient stress and strain distributions during the quenching process, the final phases and hardness distributions, and to predict the residual stress and the final deformation of the processed part. A good agreement between computational results and reference data is found  相似文献

The influence of mass-flow-rate ratio of inner to outer secondary air on gas–particle flow characteristics was determined in the near-burner region of a centrally fuel-rich swirl coal combustion burner. Velocity and particle volume flux profiles and normalized particle number concentrations were obtained. Peaks in tangential mean velocity and three-dimensional root-mean-square fluctuation velocities were found to decrease as the mass-flow-rate ratio increased. Moreover, the peaks in the mean axial velocities and particle volume flux near the wall increased, whereas those near the chamber axis decreased. Simultaneously, both recirculation zone and swirl number decreased as the mass-flow-rate ratio increased.  相似文献

The main purpose of this work is to develop a method for simultaneous measurement of velocity and passive scalar concentration by means of digital particle image velocimetry and planar laser-induced fluorescence. Details of the implementation of the method are given, and the technique is applied to measurements of concentration and velocity in the centre-plane of a liquid jet with a Reynolds number of 6,000. The measurements are compared with large eddy simulations. Mean velocities and concentrations, fluctuating velocities and concentrations, and correlation between fluctuating velocities and concentrations are analysed for the first six diameters downstream of the jet exit. The general agreement between measured and simulated results was found to be good, in particular for mean quantities. Mean profiles are also found to be in good agreement with other experimental work on jets reported in the literature. The “whole-plane” measurement method was found to be very useful for detailed comparisons of turbulent statistics with simulated data. The inadequacy of models for turbulent mass transport based on the standard gradient diffusion concept is demonstrated through the experimental data. The aerodynamic interaction between the contralateral wings and between the body and wings of a model insect are studied, by using the method of numerically solving the Navier-Stokes equations over moving overset grids, under typical hovering and forward flight conditions. Both the interaction between the contralateral wings and the interaction between the body and wings are very weak, e.g. at hovering, changes in aerodynamic forces of a wing due to the present of the other wing are less than 3% and changes in aerodynamic forces of the wings due to presence of the body are less than 2%. The reason for this is as following. During each down- or up-stroke, a wing produces a vortex ring, which induces a relatively large jet-like flow inside the ring but very small flow outside the ring. The vortex rings of the left and right wings are on the two sides of the body. Thus one wing is outside vortex ring of the other wing and the body is outside the vortex rings of the left and right wings, resulting in the weak interactions.  相似文献

A model for droplet transport in turbulent gas–liquid flow in horizontal channels or pipes is developed. We invoke the kinetic theory of Reeks and co-workers for inertial particles, and the Reynolds stress–ω model of Wilcox for the gas turbulence. We introduce a suitable turbulence boundary condition at the gas–liquid interface. The full kinetic model is compared to experimental data using high density SF6 gas and Exxsol oil, and the model gives a good prediction of the droplet distribution.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the influence of different coal mass fraction in an air dense medium fluidized bed (ADMFB). The effect of the low density particles layer on heavy sedimentation increased with increasing material layer thickness. The thickness of the low density particles layer also affected the final settling time of the high density particles. Increasing the thickness of the low density particles layer by Δh provoked an increase in the settling of high density particles that was related to their diameter (Δh/D). The pressure gradient across the bed was lower than that observed for the control experiment, which had only the dense material, owing to a decrease in the pressure gradient in Zones 1 and 5 (at the top and bottom of the bed, respectively). Introducing different coal sizes resulted in different fluidization environments, particle accumulation layers, and changes to the surrounding zone. However, the influence of the coal particles on the local bed characteristics was related to its concentration. The feeding mass fraction of 6–13 mm size and 13–25 mm size coal should be limited to10% and 13%, respectively. The ranges of possible deviation were found to be 0.08–0.15 and 0.07–0.10 for the respective samples.  相似文献

In this paper, the fluid forces and the dynamics of a flexible clamped–clamped cylinder in turbulent axial flow are computed numerically. In the presented numerical model, there is no need to tune parameters for each specific case or to obtain coefficients from experiments. The results are compared with the dynamics measured in experiments available in the literature. The specific case studied here consists of a silicone cylinder mounted in axial water flow. Computationally it is found that the cylinder loses stability first by buckling. The threshold for buckling is in quantitative agreement with experimental results and weakly nonlinear theory. At higher flow speed a fluttering motion is predicted, in agreement with experimental results. It is also shown that even a small misalignment between the flow and the structure can have a significant impact on the dynamical behavior. To provide insight in the results of these fluid–structure interaction simulations, forces are computed on rigid inclined and curved cylinders, showing the existence of two different flow regimes. Furthermore it is shown that the inlet turbulence state has a non-negligible effect on these forces and thus on the dynamics of the cylinder.  相似文献
