Novel Chiral Ferrocenyl Aziridino Alcohol Catalysts Promoting Asymmetric Addition of Diethylzinc to Aldehydes

Optically active aziridino alcohols containing ferrocenyl groups were prepared from commercially available L-threonine in excellent yields and used as catalysts to promote the asymmetric addition of diethylzinc to aryaldehydes to afford 1-arylpropanol in up to 84% enantiomeric excesses with moderate to good yields.

Thermodynamic Investigation of the Azeotropic Mixture Composed of Water and Benzene

The molar heat capacity of the azeotropic mixture composed of water and benzene was measured by an adiabatic calorimeter in the temperature range from 80 to 320 K. The phase transitions took place in the temperature range from 265.409 to 275.165 K and 275.165 to 279.399 K. The phase transition temperatures were determined to be 272.945 and 278.339 K, which were corresponding to the solid-liquid phase transitions of water and benzene, respectively. The thermodynamic functions and the excess thermodynamic functions of the mixture relative to standard temperature 298.15 K were derived from the relationships of the thermodynamic functions and the function of the measured heat capacity with respect to temperature.     

Using Natural Cinchona Alkaloids to Promote the Enantioselective Addition of Dialkylzinc to N－Diphenylphosphinylimines

Aqueous Media Oxidation of Alcohols with Ammonium Persulfate

Oxidation of series of various primary and secondary alcohols to corresponding carbonyl compounds with ammonium persulfate in aqueous media was described. No over oxidation of primary alcohols to carboxylic acids and secondary alcohols to esters was observed. Under such conditions benzoin was converted to benzoic acid.

In this paper, we develop a facile peel-off method to transfer organic thin film to various substrates. Remarkably, the method uses only micro volume water as an assist to peel off PAN film, which reduces the risk of contamination by solvent and greatly contributes to the performance maintenance.     

KINETICSOF TRANSITION FROM ISOTROPIC TO CHOLESTERIC PHASE FOR A THERMOTROPIC CELLULOSE DERIVATIVE

The kinetics of mesophase formation of a thermotropic hydroxyethyl cellulose acetatefrom isotropic phase to cholesteric mesophase has been studied by means of depolariz-ing transmittance method. Avrami type analysis of the data gives an exponent n close to1, which suggests the nucleation followed by rod-like growth. It means that the kineticbehavior of phase transition from isotropic to cholesteric mesophase is very similar to thatof the mesophase formation from isotropic to nematic mesophase.     

STUDIES ON 1,2,3-DIAZAPHOSPHOLE Ⅳ REACTION OF 1,2,3-DIAZAPHOSPHOLE WITH ALCOHOLS

Rapid addition of alcohols to 1,2,3-diazaphosphole 1 easily gave tricoordinatedphosphorus compounds,which were sulfurized to tetracoordinated phosphorus compounds.When ethylene glycol and aminoethanol were used separately to react with 1,the tricoordinatedphosphorus compounds which formed,rearranged to pentacoordinated phosphorus compoundsand the substituents at N_2 affected the rearrangement significantly.     

Quantitative High-Performance Liquid Chromatographic Determination of Neurotoxin β-ODAP and α- isomer in Grass Pea(Lathyrus sativus)

Grass pea (Lathyrus sativus) is leguminous crop cultivated in India,Bangladesh and Ethiopia, where it is a major protein source for people in the lowest income groups[1] .However, excessive ingestion of this pulse can lead to irreversible paralysis of the legs-a disease known as neurolathyrism or lathyrism.the causative agent was reported to be the non-protein amino acids,β-N-L-oxalyl-α,β-diaminopropionic acid (β-ODAP, sometimes, referred to as BOAA)[2]. The α-isomer of ODAP, α-N-oxaly 1-α,β-diaminopropionic acid, has been shown to be nontoxic to chicks and mice[3]. Lathyrus sativus shows good adaptation to the low rainfall conditions of northwestern China. It grows also in poor soil and is resistant to salt and flood. Our group was exploring to breed low or zero toxin varieties of Lathyrus sativus as grain crops for human consumption and as protein-rich feed for animals. So it is necessary to develop a method to detemine the toxin suitablefor differenth pu rpose.     

SmI_2-Mediated Addition Reaction of α-Halomethylsulfones to Carbonyl Compounds.A Convenient Synthesis of β-Hydroxysulfones

Due to the chemoselective dehalogenation by SmI_2, the additionof α-halomethylsulfones to carbonyl compounds afforded β-hy-droxysulfones. Those reactions with α-bromomethylsulfonesgave the products in moderate to good yields. The SmI_2-mediat-ed addition of gem-dihalomethylsulfones to ketones also afford-ed α-halo-β-hydroxysulfones in moderate yields.
