We present a new system of boundary integral equations for the free-edge plate. This system expresses an abstract symmetric variational problem posed on the boundary of the plate. In order to obtain this abstract problem, we must set the exterior boundary value problem corresponding to the free-edge plate in a framework of weighted Sobolev spaces. Finally, we take care of the hypersingular kernels appearing in our system of BIEs, by using an abstract technique of integration by parts.  相似文献

In this paper we prove, using the Poincaré-Hopf inequalities, that a minimal number of non-degenerate singularities can be computed in terms only of abstract homological boundary information. Furthermore, this minimal number can be realized on some manifold with non-empty boundary satisfying the abstract homological boundary information. In fact, we present all possible indices and types (connecting or disconnecting) of singularities realizing this minimal number. The Euler characteristics of all manifolds realizing this minimal number are obtained and the associated Lyapunov graphs of Morse type are described and shown to have the lowest topological complexity.  相似文献

In a Hilbert space H, we study the Fredholm property of a boundary value problem for a fourth-order differential-operator equation of elliptic type with unbounded operators in the boundary conditions. We find sufficient conditions on the operators in the boundary conditions for the problem to be Fredholm. We give applications of the abstract results to boundary value problems for fourth-order elliptic partial differential equations in nonsmooth domains.  相似文献

In this paper we study bifurcations for a free boundary problem modeling the growth of multi-layer tumors under the action of inhibitors. An important feature of this problem is that the surface tension effect of the free boundary is taken into account. By reducing this problem into an abstract bifurcation equation in a Banach space, overcoming some technical difficulties and finally using the Crandall–Rabinowitz bifurcation theorem, we prove that this problem has infinitely many branches of bifurcation solutions bifurcating from the flat solution.  相似文献

In this paper the existence of solutions of a non-autonomous abstract retarded functional differential equation of second order with infinite delay is considered. Assuming the existence of an evolution operator corresponding to the associate abstract Cauchy problem of second order, we establish the existence of mild solutions of the functional equation. Furthermore, we study the existence of classical solutions of the abstract Cauchy problem of second order and we apply these results to establish the existence of classical solutions of the functional equation. Finally, we apply our results to study the existence of solutions of the non-autonomous wave equation with delay.  相似文献

In many applications such as the stability analysis of traveling waves, it is important to know the spectral properties of a linear differential operator on the whole real line. We investigate the approximation of this operator and its spectrum by finite interval boundary value problems from an abstract point of view. Under suitable assumptions on the boundary operators, we prove that the approximations converge regularly (in the sense of discrete approximations) to the all line problem, which has strong implications for the behavior of resolvents and spectra. As an application, we obtain resolvent estimates for abstract coupled hyperbolic–parabolic equations. Furthermore, we show that our results apply to the FitzHugh–Nagumo system.  相似文献

We prove maximal regularity results of type Lp for abstract parabolic Volterra equations including problems with inhomogeneous boundary data. Our approach is purely operator theoretic. It uses the inversion of the convolution, the Dore-Venni theorem, the Mikhlin theorem in the operator-valued version, and real interpolation. Known results on Lp-regularity of abstract Cauchy problems and abstract parabolic pdes with inhomogeneous boundary conditions are recovered. As an application we consider the heat equation of memory type with inhomogeneous boundary condition.  相似文献

In this paper we study well-posedness and asymptotic behavior of solution of a free boundary problem modeling the growth of multi-layer tumors under the action of an external inhibitor. We first prove that this problem is locally well-posed in little Hölder spaces. Next we investigate asymptotic behavior of the solution. By computing the spectrum of the linearized problem and using the linearized stability theorem, we give the rigorous analysis of stability and instability of all stationary flat solutions under the non-flat perturbations. The method used in proving these results is first to reduce the free boundary problem to a differential equation in a Banach space, and next use the abstract well-posedness and geometric theory for parabolic differential equations in Banach spaces to make the analysis.  相似文献

We introduce a general framework which allows to verify if abstract wave equations with generalized Wentzell boundary conditions are well-posed, i.e., are governed by a cosine family. As an example we study wave equations for second order differential operators on C[0,1] with non-local Wentzell-type boundary conditions. In this paper we propose a hybrid between direct and indirect boundary integral methods to solve a transmission problem for the Helmholtz equation in Lipschitz and smooth domains. We present an exhaustive abstract study of the numerical approximation of the resulting system of boundary integral equations by means of Galerkin methods. Some particular examples of convergent schemes in the smooth case in two dimensions are given. Finally, we extend the results to a thermal scattering problem in a half plane with several obstacles and provide numerical results that illustrate the accuracy of our methods depending on the regularity of the interface.  相似文献

The problem of the existence of time-periodic flows in infinite cylindrical pipes in correspondence to any given, time-periodic, total flux, was solved only quite recently in [1]. In this last reference we solved the above problem for flows under the non-slip boundary condition as a corollary of a more general result. Here we want to show that the abstract theorem proved in [1] applies as well to the solutions of the well known slip (or Navier) boundary condition (1.7) or to the mixed boundary condition (1.14). Actually, the argument applies for solutions of many other boundary value problems. This paper focuses on nonlocal boundary value problems for linear and nonlinear abstract elliptic equations in Banach spaces. Here equations and boundary conditions contain certain parameters. The uniform separability of the linear problem and the existence and uniqueness of maximal regular solution of nonlinear problem are obtained in Lp spaces. For linear case the discreteness of spectrum of corresponding parameter dependent differential operator is obtained. The behavior of solution when the parameter approaches zero and its smoothness with respect to the parameter is established. Moreover, we show the estimate for analytic semigroups in terms of interpolation spaces. This fact can be used to obtain maximal regularity properties for abstract boundary value problems.  相似文献

We analyze the finite element approximation of the spectral problem for the linear elasticity equation with mixed boundary conditions on a curved non-convex domain. In the framework of the abstract spectral approximation theory, we obtain optimal order error estimates for the approximation of eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Two kinds of problems are considered: the discrete domain does not coincide with the real one and mixed boundary conditions are imposed. Some numerical results are presented.  相似文献

In a UMD Banach space E, we consider a boundary value problem for a second order elliptic differential-operator equation with a spectral parameter when one of the boundary conditions, in the principal part, contains a linear unbounded operator in E. A theorem on an isomorphism is proved and an appropriate estimate of the solution with respect to the space variable and the spectral parameter is obtained. In this way, Fredholm property of the problem is shown. Moreover, discreteness of the spectrum and completeness of a system of root functions corresponding to the homogeneous problem are established. Finally, applications of obtained abstract results to nonlocal boundary value problems for elliptic differential equations with a parameter in non-smooth domains are given.  相似文献
