Abstract

A module is said to be copure injective if it is injective with respect to all modules A ? B with B/A injective. We first characterize submodules that have the extension property with respect to copure injective modules. Then we characterize commutative rings with finite self injective dimension in terms of copure injective modules. Finally, we show that the quotient categories of reduced copure injective modules and reduced h- divisible modules are isomorphic.  相似文献

A relationship between a pair of Laurent series and Riordan arrays is formulated. In addition, a type of generalized Sheffer groups is defined by using Riordan arrays with respect to power series with non-zero coefficients. The isomorphism between a generalized Sheffer group and the group of the Riordan arrays associated with Laurent series is established. Furthermore, Appell, associated, Bell, and hitting-time subgroups of the groups are defined and discussed. A relationship between the generalized Sheffer groups with respect to different type of power series is presented. The equivalence of the defined Riordan array pairs and generalized Stirling number pairs is given. A type of inverse relations of various series is constructed by using pairs of Riordan arrays. Finally, several applications involving various arrays, polynomial sequences, special formulas and identities are also presented as illustrative examples.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to provide an extensive account of Robert Leslie Ellis?s largely forgotten work on philosophy of science and probability theory. On the one hand, it is suggested that both his ‘idealist’ renovation of the Baconian theory of induction and a ‘realism’ vis-à-vis natural kinds were the result of a complex dialogue with the work of William Whewell. On the other hand, it is shown to what extent the combining of these two positions contributed to Ellis?s reformulation of the metaphysical foundations of traditional probability theory. This parallel is assessed with reference to the disagreement between Ellis and Whewell on the nature of (pure) mathematics and its relation to scientific knowledge.  相似文献

An absolute valued algebra is a non-zero real algebra that is equipped with a multiplicative norm. We classify all finite dimensional absolute valued algebras having a non-zero central idempotent or a one-sided unity, up to algebra isomorphism. This completes earlier results of Ramírez Álvarez and Rochdi which, in our self-contained presentation, are recovered from the wider context of composition k-algebras with an LR-bijective idempotent.  相似文献

We consider the maximal rank-deficient submatrices of Fourier matrices with order a power of a prime number. We do this by considering a hierarchical subdivision of these matrices into low rank blocks. We also explore some connections with the fast Fourier transform (FFT), and with an uncertainty principle for Fourier transforms over finite Abelian groups.  相似文献

John Wallis, Savilian professor of geometry at Oxford from 1649 to 1703, engaged in a number of disputes with French mathematicians: with Fermat (in 1657–1658), with Pascal (in 1658–1659), with Dulaurens (in 1667–1668), and against Descartes (in the early 1670s). This paper examines not only the mathematical content of the arguments but also Wallis’s various strategies of response. Wallis’s opinion of French mathematicians became increasingly bitter, but at the same time he was able to use the confrontations to promote his own reputation.  相似文献

We present an algorithmic proof of the theorem on generalized real scalar product spaces with arbitrary signature. We use Clifford algebras to compute the factorization of a given transformation as a product of reflections with respect to hyperplanes. The relationship with the Cartan-Dieudonné-Scherk theorem is also discussed in relation to the minimum number of reflections required to decompose a given orthogonal transformation.  相似文献

We study the class of so-called totally dominant matrices in the usual algebra and in the max algebra in which the sum is the maximum and the multiplication is usual. It turns out that this class coincides with the well known class of positive matrices having positive the determinants of all 2×2 submatrices. The closure of this class is closed not only with respect to the usual but also with respect to the max multiplication. Further properties analogous to those of totally positive matrices are proved and some connections to Monge matrices are mentioned.  相似文献

A notion of compactness with respect to a previously introduced notion of functor induced closure operator is presented and analyzed. Even though this new notion shows very similar properties to compactness with respect to the classical notion of categorical closure operator, in general the two concepts are different. The inertia of a Hermitian matrix is defined to be a triplet composed of the numbers of the positive, negative and zero eigenvalues of the matrix counted with multiplicities, respectively. In this paper, we show some basic formulas for inertias of 2×2 block Hermitian matrices. From these formulas, we derive various equalities and inequalities for inertias of sums, parallel sums, products of Hermitian matrices, submatrices in block Hermitian matrices, differences of outer inverses of Hermitian matrices. As applications, we derive the extremal inertias of the linear matrix expression A-BXB with respect to a variable Hermitian matrix X. In addition, we give some results on the extremal inertias of Hermitian solutions to the matrix equation AX=B, as well as the extremal inertias of a partial block Hermitian matrix.  相似文献

We investigate frequently hypercyclic and chaotic linear operators from a measure-theoretic point of view. Among other things, we show that any frequently hypercyclic operator T acting on a reflexive Banach space admits an invariant probability measure with full support, which may be required to vanish on the set of all periodic vectors for T  ; that there exist frequently hypercyclic operators on the sequence space c0c0 admitting no ergodic measure with full support; and that if an operator admits an ergodic measure with full support, then it has a comeager set of distributionally irregular vectors. We also give some necessary and sufficient conditions (which are satisfied by all the known chaotic operators) for an operator T to admit an invariant measure supported on the set of its hypercyclic vectors and belonging to the closed convex hull of its periodic measures. Finally, we give a Baire category proof of the fact that any operator with a perfectly spanning set of unimodular eigenvectors admits an ergodic measure with full support.  相似文献

In this paper, we study fractional differential inclusions with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove the existence of a solution under both convexity and nonconvexity conditions on the multi-valued right-hand side. The proofs rely on nonlinear alternative Leray–Schauder type, Bressan–Colombo selection theorem and Covitz and Nadler’s fixed point theorem for multi-valued contractions. The compactness of the set solutions and relaxation results is also established. In the last section we consider the fractional boundary value problem with infinite delay.  相似文献

All solutions of one-sided tangential interpolation problems with Hilbert norm constraints for operator-valued Hardy functions on the polydisk are described. Dénes König (1884–1944) is a Hungarian mathematician well known for his treatise on graph theory (König, 1936). When he was a student, he published two books on mathematical recreations ( and ). Does his work on mathematical recreations have any relation to his work on graph theory? If yes, how are they connected? To answer these questions, we will examine his books of 1902, 1905 and 1936, and compare them with each other. We will see that the books of 1905 and 1936 include many common topics, and that the treatment of these topics is different between 1905 and 1936.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the relation between the local rank-structure of a regular analytic matrix function and the one of its inverse function. The local rank factorization (lrf) of a matrix function is introduced, which characterizes extended canonical systems of root functions and the local Smith form. An interpretation of the local rank factorization in terms of Jordan chains and Jordan pairs is provided. Duality results are shown to hold between the subspaces associated with the lrf of the matrix function and the one of its reduced adjoint.  相似文献

We consider matrices M with entries mij = m(λiλj) where λ1, … ,λn are positive numbers and m is a binary mean dominated by the geometric mean, and matrices W with entries wij = 1/m (λiλj) where m is a binary mean that dominates the geometric mean.
